John T. Pernal
SOUTHINGTON -- John J. Pernal, 85, of Mt. Vernon Road in Southington, died Sunday, April 14, 2002 at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of 61 years of Frances Ploszay Pernal.
Born in Southington, March 19, 1917, son of the late Peter and Pauline Asklar Pernal he had been a lifelong Southington resident. Mr. Pernal retired in 1979 from his real estate business, John J. Pernal Real Estate. Prior to his retirement he owned and operated Jay's Machine Shop on Mt. Vernon Road.
Besides his wife, Frances, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Pernal Jr. of Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Marie Pernal of Bristol; a sister, Genevieve Audet of Bristol; four grandchildren, Dena O'Connor and her husband, Patrick, Jody Labadia, Lori Pernal and John B. Pernal; and one great-grandchildren, Kaylee O'Connor. He was predeceased by his daughter, Janet Labadia; two brothers, Adolph and Edward Pernal; and a sister, Marion Lebedenski.
There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Plantsville. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be in Wednesday morning prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville.
Louise M. Sartucci
MERIDEN -- Louise M. Sartucci, 94, of 355 Prospect Ave., wife of the late Adolph O. Sartucci, died on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden on March 5, 1908, the daughter of the late Louis and Antoinette Petrucelli Yanelli, she was a lifelong Meriden resident had graduated from Meriden High School. Mrs. Sartucci was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia P. Skarb and her husband, Walter of Port Orange, Fla.; two sons, Adolph L. Sartucci of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Richard J. Sartucci of Meriden; four grandchildren, Julie Reidy, Linda Budris, Heather Sartucci and Steven Skarb; several great-grandchildren; two sister, Mary Yanelli and Rose DiGiandomenico, both of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Constance Scranton; and two brothers, Dominic Yanelli and James J. Yanelli.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 17, at 10 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 17, from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the Mass.
Cecilia M. Wrinn
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Cecilia M. Wrinn, 86, of Clearwater, Fla., died Sunday, April 14, 2002 at Mariner Health of Clearwater.
Born in Waterbury, she moved to St. Petersburg in 1983 from Meriden. She was a homemaker and was Catholic.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Norbert; two daughters, Patricia Mik of Meriden and Barbara Irace of Southington; one son, Joseph of Winchester, Mass.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes and Cremation Tribute Center, Largo Chapel has charge of arrangements.
Joshua L. "Chaps" Chapman
EAST HADDAM -- Joshua L. "Chaps" Chapman, 21, of 19 Sims Lane, East Haddam, passed away at Providence Hospital in Rhode Island on Saturday, April 13, 2002.
He was the beloved son of Ronald and Maura (Sandstrom) Chapman of East Haddam. He was born in Meriden on Oct. 9, 1980. Joshua was a 1999 graduate of Nathan Hale High School in Moodus, he worked for Pro Services in Fairfield, where he worked with environmental heating and ventilation. Joshua will be greatly missed by his band of friends also known as "The Buds." Joshua's dream was to go into the Military to pursue a career.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Luke Chapman of East Haddam; two uncles, Chris Sandstrom and his wife, Sharon of Beaufort, N.C., and their two sons, Hosea and Joel Sandstrom, also of North Carolina and Peter Sandstrom of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and one aunt, Beverly Zlotowski of Meriden and her two children, Laurie Lynn Zlotowski and Karry McNamee, both of Meriden; and his parental grandmother, Eileen Chapman of Nova Scotia.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, April 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Church in Colchester. Family and friends may call at The Swan Funeral Home, 27 W.F. Palmer Road, Moodus Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joshua's memory to Janitorial Department for Basketball in c/o Carl Aresco, Nathan Hale High School, P.O. Box 404, Moodus, CT 06469.
Albert R. Flors
SOUTHINGTON -- Albert R. Flors, 79, of South Main St., in the Plantsville section of Southington died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of 56 years of Susan Klemovich Flors.
Born in New Britain August 5, 1922, son of the late Charles and Rose Plaga Florkowsky he had been a Southington resident since 1946. Mr. Flors served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, 178th Engineers Combat Battalion in France, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Germany and Luxembourg under General Patton. Before his retirement he was the former president and owner of Rubber Car-Go in Plantsville for many years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Polish Falcons, Nest 307, a Justice of the Peace and a former member of the Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals.
Besides his wife, Sue, he is survived by his daughter, Susan M. Flors and his son, Mark A. Flors, both of Plantsville; his grandson, Michael Flors of Bristol; his two sisters, Sophie Marcinczyk of New Britain and Helen Sylvester of Southington; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Stanley, Walter and Joseph.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 19, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Plantsville. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Marian Grace
NEW BRITAIN -- Marian (Gaffey) Grace, 87, of Park Place, New Britain, passed away at home Sunday, April 14, 2002. Marian was the widow of Robert M. Grace.
She was born in Meriden, daughter of the late John W. and Theresa (Gorman) Gaffey. She was a graduate of Central Connecticut State University and received her Masters degree from Southern Connecticut State University. She retired from the New Britain school system after many years of teaching at the State Middle School. She was a charter member of St. Maurice Church. A former board member of the YWCA and a board member of the New Britain Youth Museum. A member of the Boys & Girls Club auxiliary.
Marian is survived by a son, Robert M. Grace of New Britain; three daughters, Mary Ann Gunning of Plainville, Katherine Tullai and her husband, Gerald of New Britain and Sheila Grace and her husband, Donald McKinney of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; two brothers, John Gaffey of Mexico and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gaffey of Wallingford; a sister, Katherine Dorsey of Meriden; five grandchildren, John Gunning and his wife, Elise of West Granby, Matthew Gunning and his wife, Karen Wright of Ann Harbor, Mich., Elizabeth and Aaron Bennett of DesMoines, Iowa and Benjamin and James McKinney of Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Maurice Church, Wightman Road, New Britain. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Donations may be made to The Boys & Girls Club of New Britain or the New Britain.
Rose B. Hull
MIDDLETOWN -- Rose B. Hull, 91, of 60 Hanover St., wife of the late Edward J. Hull passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at Coccomo Memorial.
Born in Quebec, Canada on April 29, 1910, the daughter of the late Adelard and Delvina Pouliout Dutil, she had resided in Meriden most of her life. Mrs. Hull was employed at one time by the Manning Bowman Division of International Silver Company. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church, and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. Hull of Meriden; a son, Edward L. Hull of Klamath Falls, Ore.; three grandchildren, Corrine Lohan and her husband, Philip of Southington, Greg Hull and his wife, Shandra of Salmon Harbor, Calif., and Steven Kotch of Waterbury; three great-grandchildren, Amber Hull, Loran Hull and Steven Kotch Jr.; a brother-in-law, Henry Hull of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Friday, April 19, at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. in St. Laurent Church. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450-1004.
Levon H. Kassabian
GUILFORD -- Levon Harry Kassabian, of 36 High St., Guilford and 11 Meriden Ave., Meriden died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 in Old Saybrook.
He was born in Meriden on March 31, 1913, the son of Jevon and Leonora (Klatt) Kassabian. He volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1941 and served with the 34th Division in the African campaign and subsequently landing in Italy. He was a longtime owner of Kassabian Furniture and Appliance in Meriden. In 1970 he chose to enter the wholesale pursuit and subsequently traveled extensively in New England and the Caribbean territories.
He is survived by Larenine Kassabian and their daughter, Christina Schaefer and her husband, Douglas E. Schafer of Burke, Va.; grandchildren, Alice Kay Schafer of Burke, Va., and Eric C. Schafer of Ventura, Calif.
Services will be held at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, Saturday, April 20, with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be sent to The Guilford Volunteer Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund, 31 Park St., Guilford or to the Lutheran Church of Madison Memorial Fund, 9 Britton Lane, Madison, CT 06443.
Nicholas F. Kraynack
WALPOLE, Mass. -- Nicholas F. Kraynack, 69, of East Walpole, Mass., passed away Monday, April 8, 2002. He was the beloved husband of Alena (Czubyk) Kraynack. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He was the loving father of Pamela Stewart of Lawrence and Nicholas Kraynack of Walpole and the late Donna Shine; cherished grandfather of five; and great-grandfather of two; devoted son of Dorothy (Smith) Kraynack; and the late Nicholas E. Kraynack; nephew of Julia and Fred Garlinski and Velma Tubiak of Meriden.
Funeral services were held in Walpole with interment in St. Francis Cemetery, Walpole. Memorial donations may be made to Westwood Dialysis Center, 90 Glacier Drive, Westwood, Mass 02090.
