Mr. Leibowitz was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He moved to the Danbury/Brewster area where he worked in the department of cystology at Danbury Hospital. He was also a familiar, friendly face bartending in the area.
Joan M. Jones

Joan M. Jones, 70, of Chestnutland Road, New Milford, died Thursday June 17, 2004 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of Kenneth S. Jones.
Mrs. Jones was born in Regina Sask, Canada August 1, 1933, daughter of the late Michael and Rose Pelcher Billet.
A former resident of New Jersey, she has lived in New Milford since 1989.
She was the founder of Baby Bundles of New Milford, a Sunday school teacher at Grace Christian Fellowship Children School and a former member of the New Milford Garden Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sons, Donald A. Jones and his wife Karen of Chester, N.J. and Robert T. Jones and his wife Jennifer of New Milford; 1 daughter, Glynis Gilbert and her husband Richard of New Milford; 6 grandchildren, Kristen Jones, Trevor Jones, Samantha Jones, Abigale Jones, Erin Gilbert and Lizzy Gilbert.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 174 Mount Pleasant Road (Route 6), Newtown. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Arrangements by the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford.

Gladys H. Burr

Gladys H. Burr, 78 of Seffner, Florida; formerly of New Milford, passed away on May 19,2004 at Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, Florida.
Gladys was born April 19,1926 in Hartford, Connecticut, the daughter of Raymond and Hazel (Parker) Holloway. She graduated from Canton High School in Canton in 1944. She later worked at the Avon Town Hall as secretary to the Selectman and the Zoning Board and became the Assistant Town Clerk and the first policewoman of Avon.
Gladys was a talented piano and organ player, and became the Junior Choir leader and a member of the Senior Choir of the Avon Congregational Church. She was very active in the Grange and held several different offices in the Avon and New Milford areas. Gladys worked at Ruwet Sibley as a secretary and parts person, and was the office manager at SCA services of New Milford. On January 15,1983 she married Merwin Burr in Brookfield. She later retired from Demitron Research in 1990 and they moved to Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Merwin; a daughter, Marion Bradshaw of Tampa, Florida; a son, Charles Larson, Jr. of New Milford; a daughter, Susan Hansen of Poultney, Vermont; four step-children; two sisters: Marion Schlosser of Otis, Massachusetts and Elizabeth Damiani of Harwinton; a sister-in-law: Joyce Holloway of Warren; nineteen grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers: Charles and Frank Holloway and one sister Ruth Kendall.
A memorial service will be held at the Newbury Church, Brookfield on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 11 :00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be sent to the Arthritis Foundation, 35 Cold Spring Road, Suite 411, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
Michael Palanzo

Michael Palanzo, 76, of Danbury, beloved husband of Evelyn (Ferris) Palanzo, died at Danbury Hospital on Thursday, June 17, 2004.
Mr. Palanzo was born in Danbury, July 4, 1927, a son of Daniel and Josephine (Angelotti) Palanzo. He was raised and educated in Danbury, where he lived his entire life. A US Army veteran, he served in the 12th Armored/Artillery Infantry Battalion from 1945 to 1947 as a rifleman and was honorably discharged at the rank of Private 1st Class. Mr. Palanzo was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal.
In early years, Mr. Palanzo worked in the hatting industry with the former Mallory Hat Company. Later, he was employed as a department manager with the former Genung’s and Caldor department stores and then went on to work for Connors Engineering where he was a supervisor for twenty years. He retired from Commatel in Danbury in 1990.
An avid sports fan, Mr. Palanzo in early years played softball in the Danbury Bar League and enjoyed watching many sports, most especially auto racing.
In addition to his loving wife Evelyn, he is survived by his devoted son, Michael F. Palanzo and his daughter-in-law, Martha of Danbury; his two grandsons, whom he cherished, Gregory and Steven Palanzo both of Danbury; two sisters, Antoinette Nissly and Bernice Novella both of Danbury as well as many nieces and nephews survive him.
A brother Gerald Palanzo, Sr. and two sisters, Marie Testani and Anna Spina predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Danbury.
Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery
with military honors.
Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492 would be appreciated.
Ruth Janice (R.J.) Parady

A 55-year resident of the Danbury Area, Ruth Janice was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in a combination of Bethel, Conn., and Brooklyn, New York. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Platt, she was the older of two daughters.
Ruth Janice was a graduate of the Packer Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. She retired from jewelry department management at both Grandway and Bradlees. After retirement she seldom found enough time for her flea market, tag sale and coupon shopping. She was a long-time member of Eastern Star.
She was a dedicated, loving mother who was known for honoring birthdays and holidays with both friends and family. She is survived by her son, Dan Pechin; her two cats, Tarzan and Jane; and her younger sister, Marilyn. She loves the Lord and even clandestinely sent her son to Chop Point Camp in Maine where Dan became a born-again Christian.
Her other favorite activity was sightseeing in national parks in Utah, California, Arizona, Nevada and the casinos in Las Vegas while feasting in the Golden Nugget.
Service is today, June 19 at 9:30 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church at 10 Aaron Samuels Blvd. in Danbury.
Dolores “Dee” (Aikler) Stanley

Dolores “Dee” (Aikler) Stanley, 62, of Brookfield, died on Friday, June 18th at the Danbury Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Dee was born in Stamford on September 8, 1941, daughter of the late John and Carmina Aikler. She graduated from Mother of God Academy in Stamford. She was a real-estate agent with Davis & Hoyt/Better Homes and Gardens of Brookfield where she spent 28 years as an active and dedicated Realtor in the Greater Danbury Area. She was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Brookfield.
Dee married William Stanley in August 1959. This August would be their 45th wedding anniversary. Together they had four children and fifteen grandchildren: Mark and Christine Stanley of Brookfield; and their children, Shane, Linda, Mark, Michael, and Kyle; Ned and Alane Meehan of Brookfield and their children, Victoria, Kate and Diane; Diane and Sam Ajdinoski of Roxbury and their children, Vanessa, Jake and Tara; William, Jr. and Colleen Stanley of Danbury and their children, Bill, Jack, Josh, and Matt. Also, left to mourn her passing is her brother and his wife, John and Jane Aikler of Stamford and their four children. She also leaves several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dee was a beloved and devoted grandmother who spent much of her free time at baseball games and school plays. She was an active volunteer in the community. She recently received an award for ten years of prison ministry; she volunteered at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House; was a member of St. Joseph’s Social Concern Committee, and visited the sick in the hospital that had no families. She was always cooking for the sick and shopping for the needy.
She left a legacy of serving, loving, and giving to everyone. She was never judgmental, never critical, always quietly doing God’s work. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. Burial will follow in Prince of Peace Lutheran Cemetery
in Brookfield. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Monday, June 21st between 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Joan Darby

Joan Darby, 78, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004. A native of Walsall, England, she had lived in Redding, and made Tallahassee, Fla., her home for the past 20 years. She will be remembered as a talented seamstress and wonderful cook. She believed in the importance of keeping the family together.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2004 in the chapel of Culley's MeadowWood Timberlane Road Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 9143 Phillips Hwy., Suite #130, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
Survivors include a son, Paul Darby and his wife Vera; two daughters, Jane Davie of Tallahassee and Jennifer Svenson of Monticello; a brother, Clifford Bromley of Walsall, England and seven grandchildren, Justin Davie, Brett Svenson, Dana Svenson, Jessica Wright, Melissa Darby, Megan Darby and Sean Darby. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John W. Darby.
Romeo T. Potvin

Romeo T. Potvin, age 78, of Norwalk, died Thursday, June 23, 2004 at the New Milford Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Viola Latimer Potvin, whom he wed July 3, 1948 in Enosburg Falls, Vt., and who predeceased him on December 30, 1999. Mr. Potvin was born in Montgomery, Vt., July 28, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Lillian Touchette Potvin and had resided in Norwalk, for over 40 years. He was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Perkin Elmer in 1991, where he had worked for 28 years.
Mr. Potvin assisted Michael Fast with the Henry Abbott Technical School Bowling Club, was an member and usher of St. Ladislaus Church in Norwalk and while at Perkin Elmer he sang in many of their variety shows. He enjoyed his cats, photography and traveling and was always ready with a joke or trivia.
Survivors include a brother, Louis Potvin of Essex Junction, Vt.; a brother-in-law, Raymond Latimer of Enosburg Falls; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ledoux of Florida; nieces and nephews, Albert Perry of Richford, Vt., Sandi Merz of Brattleboro, Vt., Patricia O'Dell of Enosburg Falls, Carolyn Moore of Vernon, Vt., Norman Potvin of Dracute, Mass., Richard Latimer of Burlington, Vt., James Potvin of Brooklyn, Conn., Michael Potvin of Hinesburg, Vt., Janet Smith of Waitsfield, Vt., Monica Yeamans of Holland, Vt., Linda Rowden of Burlington, Vt., Marshia King of New Milford, Thomas Potvin of Ludlow, Vt., Debbie Gaboriault of South Carolina, Barbara Fast of Kent, David Potvin of Vernon, Vt., Nancy Danaher of Waitsfield, Vt. several other nieces and nephews and many cousins. He also leaves behind many bowling and bingo friends and all his friends at Jimmies Diner.
Mr. Potvin was predeceased by five brothers, Francis, Ernest, Leo, Carmi and A. Charles Potvin; two sisters, Marie Perry and Louise Greene; two nephews, Reginald Latimer and Bobby Greene; a niece, Beverly Crary and a grandniece, Bridget Potvin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 28, at St. Isidore Church in Montgomery Center, Vt. with burial to follow in St. Isidore Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk today (Friday) from 4-7 p.m. and at the Spear Funeral Home, Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, Vt. on Sunday. Elly M. Vermeulen

Elly M. Vermeulen, 72, of Kissimmee, Florida, wife of Jan P. Vermeulen, died on Sunday morning, June 20, 2004.
Mrs. Vermeulen was a longtime resident of Danbury until she and her husband moved to Florida in 1988.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, two daughters: Melanie Stuart, of Southbury; and Helen Ward and her husband David, of Kissimmee, Florida; her son, Jan W. Vermeulen and his wife Karann, of LeHigh Acres, Florida; eight grandchildren: J. Thomas Stuart, William Stuart, Scott Stuart, Monique Stuart, Paul Ward, Alexander Ward, Alisha Vermeulen, and Crystal Vermeulen, and great-granddaughter Brianna Stuart survive her.
Mrs. Vermeulen requested that there be no funeral or memorial services for her passing.

Marilyn (Ferry) Lebwohl, LPN

Marilyn (Ferry) Lebwohl, LPN., age 59, of the town of Brewster, N.Y., died Sunday June 20th, at her residence. She was the wife of Paul Lebwohl, M.D.
She was born in Danbury, January 25, 1945 daughter of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Kellogg) Clarke.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughters: Ellen Bennetti, of Bethel; and Elizabeth Glahn, of Danbury; her sons: Mark and James Ferry, both of Danbury; her grandchildren: Jenna and Thomas Bennetti, of Bethel; Ashley Brusca and Daniel Ferry, of Danbury; her sisters: Barbara Webb, of New Milford; and Sandra Falls, of Brookfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home 57 Main St., Danbury, Thursday morning at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
