Frank J. Yaskot
WALLINGFORD -- Frank J. Yaskot, 84, of 3 Washington St., died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at his home.
He was born in Wallingford, Feb. 7, 1917, a son of the late John and Caroline Bal Yaskot. He was a veteran of World War ll, serving in the U.S. Army and participating in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. Until his retirement, he was employed as a meter reader for the town of Wallingford Water and Sewer Division.
He is survived by two brothers, John Yaskot of Chicago, Ill., and Walter Yaskot of Wallingford; a sister, Helen DeAngelis of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Jennie King and Stacia Bernat.
Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. It is suggested that gifts in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., is in charge of arrangements.
Alfred C. Lee II
MERIDEN -- Funeral services for Alfred C. Lee II, 71, of Fourth St., beloved husband of Kathleen Graham Lee, will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at 7 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the convenience of the family. Joseph W. Matty
MERIDEN -- Joseph W. Matty, 64, of 120 Linsley Ave., died on Monday, March 25, 2002, at MidState Medical Center.
Born in Meriden on Jan. 3, 1939, the son of the late Wilfred and Mary (Moskel) Matty, he had resided in Meriden all his life and had attended Meriden schools. Mr. Matty was employed by Rex Forge in Plantsville, retiring in Jan. 2002.
He is survived by a sister, Rosemarie Matty of Meriden; a brother, Richard Matty of Bristol; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service to be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. in St. Laurent Cemetery, South Meriden. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Edward A. Brys
WALLINGFORD -- Edward A. Brys, 77, formerly of Sunrise Circle, Wallingford, died Saturday, March 30, 2002 in the Liberty Specialty Care Center in Colchester. He was the husband of the late Marian Westermeyer Brys.
Born in Meriden, Jan. 24, 1925, a son of the late George and Nellie Brys, he was a Meriden resident before moving to Wallingford in 1957. He had been employed by the International Silver Co., for many years until his retirement. He was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.
Mrs. Brys is survived by his daughter, Ellen R. Brys of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his son, George E. Brys and his wife, Melissa Ryan of Colchester; his grandsons, David G. Brys and James D. Brys of Cheshire; his brother, Andrew Brys of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Sr. Mary Agnese.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter and Paul Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery

Helen Gumkowski
MERIDEN -- Helen Gumkowski, 87, of 292 Thorpe Ave., wife of the late Edward Gumkowski, died on Sunday, March 31, 2002 at Masonic Geriatric Healthcare.
Born in Clymer, Pa., on May 14, 1914, the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Kania, she had resided in Meriden since 1940 and at one time, in Florida. Mrs. Gumkowski was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Kathy Gumkowski of Meriden, Dick and Mary Gumkowski of Raleigh, N.C., and Fred and Jeanne Gumkowski of Alna, Maine; seven grandchildren, Gayle Carbone, Beth Carabetta, Lynn Galasso, Jon Gumkowski, Tim Gumkowski, Jill Vanderpot and Collin Dalton; eight great-grandchildren, Nicole Carbone, Olivia Carbone, Patrick Carbone, Grace Carabetta, Alexis Carabetta, Nicholas Galasso, Kevin Galasso and Jared Vanderpot; one sister, Mary Budzyn of Waterbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, April 3, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Russell H. Hocking
WALLINGFORD -- Russell H. Hocking, 81, of Surrey Drive, Wallingford, died Saturday, March 30, 2002 in the Skyview Center in Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. Loos Hocking.
Born in East Haven, a son of the late Hobart F. and Elizabeth Anderson Hocking, he was a Wallingford resident for over 50 years. Mr. Hocking had been employed by Revere Corp., in Wallingford, for many years and later the Sterling Davis Corp., in Wallingford until his retirement. Mr. Hocking was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Sergeant in the infantry of the U.S. Army, had fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Corinthian Lodge No. 103 AF and AM.
Besides his wife, Mr. Hocking is survived by his sister, Marion Gooch of Safety Harbor, Fla.; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard R. and Katherine L. Loos of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dean O. Warburton, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, officiating. Interment with military honors, will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery. Irene Karpa
MERIDEN -- Irene Karpa, 68, of 198 Gale Ave., wife of Stephen Karpa, died with her family gathered around her on Monday, April 1, 2002, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Scranton, Pa., on Dec. 19, 1933, she had resided in Meriden for the past 46 years. Mrs. Karpa retired from Napier Company and was a parishioner of SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church.
Besides her husband, Stephen, she is survived by her daughter, Nancy Swistak; and son-in-law, John of Meriden; three sons, Ronald of Clermont, Fla., Stephen and daughter-in-law, Karen of E. Hampton and Richard and daughter-in-law, Heather of Newington; three brothers, Steve Paulick of Niagara, N.Y., Mike Paulick of Trenton, N.J., and John Paulick Scranton, Pa.; one sister, Helen Zemleduch of Toms River, N.J.; sister-in-law, Betty Paulick of Trenton, N.J.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 3, at 9:15 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. in SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. Burial will be in the CT Veterans' Cemetery, Bowe Lane, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 334, Meriden, CT 06450.
Leo G. Kaska
MERIDEN -- Leo G. Kaska, 95, of Meriden, husband of Sally Salenga Kaska, peacefully entered eternal life on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002 surrounded by his loving family at the MidState Medical Center. For the past 14 months, Leo resided at Meriden Center, where the caring staff and residents became his second family.
Born March 21, 1907 in Meriden, he was the son of the Andrew and Agatha Chudy Kaska. Leo was a lifelong resident of Meriden and was educated in local schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was employed by the Connecticut Light and Power for 25 years retiring in 1972. Leo was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church a member of its Holy Name Society, Polish Falcons Nest 68, Polish Knights of the Blessed Virgin and the Disabled American Veterans.
Besides his wife, Sally, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Kathleen Kaska of Meriden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Beth and Robert Najarian of Meriden, Andrea and Enrico Buccilli of Meriden; three sisters, Mary, Stella and Vera Kaska, all of Meriden; five grandchildren, Robert and Laura Najarian, Kristina and Michael Buccilli and Jaime Reyes, all of Meriden; a great-grandson, Lorenzo Reyes. He was predeceased by four brothers, Edward, Stanley, Joseph and Theodore Kaska.
A military funeral will be conducted Wednesday, April 3, at 11 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church; burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends may gather at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. His family respectfully request donations in Leo's memory be made in the form of contributions to St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450.
Anthony Persano
ORANGE -- Anthony "Tony" Persano, husband of the late Filomena (Faye) Colavolpe Persano of Karen Drive, Orange, passed away, Sunday, March 31, 2002 at home.
He was a member of the Elks Club and the Exchange Club, both in West Haven.
He was the father of Peter A. Persano of Orange, Vincent J. Persano of Georgia, Elizabeth P. Cobb of Wallingford; brother of Antoinette Savanelli, Helen Proto and Dolores Gamelin, all of West Haven and Alfred Persano of Georgia; also survived by eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, John and Louis Persano.
Funeral services from the West Haven Funeral Home at the green Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Holy Infant Church at 10 a.m. The hours of visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Catherine H. Brosnan
WALLINGFORD -- Catherine Hazel Bridgett Brosnan, 95, of Wallingford, wife of the late Robert J. Brosnan, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at Connecticut Baptist Home in Meriden.
Mrs. Brosnan was born in Wallingford, Jan. 17, 1907, a daughter of the late John J. and Susan Rogers Bridgett and was a lifelong resident here. She was a parishioner of The Church of The Resurrection, and was a member of the Ladies Guild of the parish.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan H. Brosnan of Wallingford; her sister, Mildred (Mrs. Peter) McLaughlin of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marie Niland and Helen Griffin.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Thursday at 11 a.m. in The Church of The Resurrection. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
