Elton Frederick Jaderlund

Elton Frederick Jaderlund, 84, a lifelong resident of Weston, died on Monday (June. 7) at Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of the late Kathleen Conroy Jaderlund.
Mr. Jaderlund was born. in Weston on September 17, 1919, a son of the late Emil and Ella Peterson Jaderlund. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 44th Infantry Division, United States Army. He participated in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and among other medals, received two Purple Hearts. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Jaderlund had been employed by the Weston School System for many years.
Survivors include his sister, Eleanor Jaderlund of West Redding, and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son, Frederick Elton Jaderlund.
Services will be held at the graveside in St. Mary Cemetery, Norwalk, on Friday (June 11) at 11 a.m.
There are no calling hours.

Madeline Davio Johnson

Mrs. Madeline Davio Johnson, 82, of Southbury, formerly Danbury, died Saturday, June 5th at River Glen in Southbury. She was the widow of Charles Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson was born May 14, 1922 in Danbury, daughter of the late Eugenio and Carmella Davio. She was a life-long resident of Danbury and had worked in food service at Danbury Hospital for many years.
She leaves one brother, Satem Davio of Leander, TX.
A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 10 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Main Street South, Southbury. Burial following in St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury. No calling hours. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury.
James E. Duren

James E. Duren, Jr., 49, of Danbury, died at Danbury Hospital on Monday, June 7th, after a long term illness with kidney dysfunction. He was born in New York, N.Y., on August 29, 1954, son of Jean Marie (Green) Duren of Danbury and the late James E. Duren, Sr. He attended Danbury High School.
James was a life long resident of Danbury and was affiliated with several churches in the community.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Justin, of Naples, Fl.; two sisters, Kim and her husband, Doug Brown of Danbury, Vivian "Sweetie" and her husband, Ricky Brandon of Ca; seven brothers and their wives, Brian Duren, Billy & Shari Smith, Bobby and Jonnie Mae Smith, Marty Curry, Marlon and Yvonne Duren, Lark and Meek Duren, Curtis and Cynthia Jones. He is also survived by his aunt, Gail Snow Bond; several nieces and nephews, Tamika Green, Michael Ross, David Melendez; and a host of aunts, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Blanche Bond, a sister, Cindy Melendez, a brother, George Daniel Hill, and a great niece, Jazmin Esperanza.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Thursday, June 10th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Cremation and interment will take place at the convenience of the family.

Francis G. Damici

Francis G. Damici, 82, of 19 Simeon Road. in Bethel, formerly of Danbury, beloved husband of Carmella (Barbarotto) Damici, fell into the loving arms of the lord, at his home on Monday, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Francis was born in Danbury, September 10, 1921, son of the late, Louis and Theresa (Talarico) Damici. He attended Danbury schools and served in the U.S. Army during WW II, where he was a platoon leader during the Battle of the Bulge. During the battle, he was injured and was the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal. He also fought in the Central European and the Rhineland Campaigns and received the Medal of Honor, for his work as an army scout. He also received the European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, American Theatre Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, two Overseas Bars, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war years, he worked in the Danbury hatting industry and then went on to work as a material cutter for the former Castro Convertible Company, until their closing in Danbury. At that time he went to work for the Gar Electroforming Company of Danbury, until his retirement. He was also a lifetime member of St. Joseph Church, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 61 and the Catholic War Veterans.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children; Richard Damici and wife, Carolyn, of Bethel, Terry Roudenis and husband, Peter, Grace Tagliavento and husband, Art and Gary Damici and wife, Nancy, all of Danbury, as well as four brothers; Carmen DeMici, Joseph DeMici and Rino DeMici, all of Danbury and Armondo Damici, of Bethel, nine grandchildren; Amy and Michael Damici, Ryan and Kimberly Roudenis, Lisa and Neil Tagliavento and Katy, Lindsay and J.D. Damici. He was also predeceased by a brother, Louis DeMici
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, on Friday morning at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Peter H. Ruvolo Jr.

Peter H. Ruvolo Jr., age 72, of Potomac, Md., died quietly and peacefully at his home, after an extended illness, on Thursday June 3, 2004. He was the husband of Susan Rubin Ruvolo.
Mr. Ruvolo was born January 7, 1932 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the Hon. Peter H. Ruvolo, Sr. and Catherine Foran. He was raised in Brooklyn and was a graduate of St. Rita's School, St. Francis Preparatory (H.S.), St. Francis College, New York and St. John's University School of Law.
Mr. Ruvolo was V.P./General Counsel of Citicorp until his retirement several years ago.
Prior to joining Citicorp, he had a distinguished career at the U.S. Department of Justice, holding various positions including Chief of the Land Acquisition Section of the Land and Natural Resources Division, Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorney General, and Assistant U.S. Attorney and Deputy Chief of the Civil Division, New York.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ruvolo is survived by five children from a previous marriage: Peter H. Ruvolo, III of Brookfield; Jacqueline S. Ascenzi, of Bridgewater; Jeffrey S. Ruvolo, of Jacksonville, Fla.; Christa M. Ruvolo, of Orlando, Fla., and Alison K. McLoughlin, of Ridgefield; by ten grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his three sisters: Rosemarie Kearney, Katherine Young and Dorothy Carretto.
He was much loved and will be missed by all.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Mr. Ruvolo's life at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2004, at the Promenade Apartments, Event Room, 5225 Pooks Hill Rd., Bethesda, Md.

Joseph C. Cataldo

Joseph C. Cataldo of Southbury, formerly of Wantagh, Long Island, N.Y., died Saturday, June 5th, 2004, at the age of 86 at Waterbury Hospital.
He was born in the Bronx, New York, June 20, 1917, the son of the late Maria and Salvatore Cataldo.
He was a graduate of Evander Childs High School, Bronx, N.Y., and attended Brooklyn Polytechnic University where he completed three years of Civil Engineering courses.
Mr. and Mrs. Cataldo were married on June 7, 1952 and would have celebrated their 52nd anniversary this week.
Joseph worked as a construction superintendent in New York City, New Hampshire, and St. Louis, Missouri, specializing in heavy construction, underpinning and foundations. He was the first contractor in the N.Y.C. area to use a "Steel King" bending machine, to bend reinforcing bars on the job site, which later became common practice. He handled underpinning the Capitol Building in Hartford. He also worked for Bankers Trust Mortgage Investors, a real estate investment trust, as a construction manager.
He was a Master Sergeant in the United States Army and proudly served his country in the 79th Combat Engineers Battalion, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, during World War II.
Joseph was an avid golfer and played with his wife at Ridgewood Country Club until last September.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Cataldo and his children: Cathy Jane Cataldo and her fianci Dave, of Meriden; Michael C. Masterson and his wife Frances, of Bethel; Susan Jane Forrest and her husband Michael, of Milford; and Rosemary Cole and her husband Hardy, of Shreveport, Louisiana. His four loving grandchildren: Alyssa Jane Detmer, Jennifer Masterson, and Scott and Andrew Silver, also survive him.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Green Funeral Home, 51 Main St., Danbury on Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m.

George K. Hamilton

George K. Hamilton, 81, of Danbury, beloved husband of Catherine (Baillie) Hamilton, of Filosa Convalescent Home, died at Bethel Health Care Center, on Friday, June 4, 2004.
Mr. Hamilton was born in Hartford, September 20, 1923, son of the late, Samuel and Mary Ann (Dawson) Hamilton. He was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and Hudson Valley Community College, in Schenectady, N.Y. and SUNY, in Albany.
He was a WW.II veteran having served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Navy. Mr. Hamilton received the Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar, the Atlantic War Zone Bar and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
He was employed as a Quality Assurance Branch Chief for the Northeast Defense Contract Management District, before retiring in 1990. He worked for the Department of Defense for 38 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Besides his loving wife of 57 years, he is survived by one daughter, Kristine Hamilton, of Litchfield; close family friend, Phyllis Tallman, of Danbury; and three nieces. He was also predeceased by a brother, Samuel D. Hamilton.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Saturday at 12 noon.

Reverend Monsignor Bernard Stephen Scanlon

Reverend Monsignor Bernard Stephen Scanlon, a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport, died on June 8th, at Stamford Hospital. He was 84 years old.
Monsignor Scanlon was born in New Haven on July 6, 1919, the first child of Bernard and Mary Kelleher Scanlon. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and New Haven High School, before entering Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. Conn., to study for the priesthood. Following final studies at Saint Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Md., he was ordained to the priesthood on December 22, 1945, by Bishop Henry J. O'Brien, at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Hartford.
Monsignor Scanlon served as pastor of Saint Pius X Parish in Fairfield from 1964-1978, and of Notre Dame Parish in Easton from 1978-1986. He also served as a priest at Saint Augustine Parish in North Branford, Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Bridgeport, Saint Mary Parish in Greenwich, and Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Fairfield. He also served as chaplain of the former Notre Dame Catholic Girls High School in Bridgeport, and as chaplain of the Lourdes Health Care Center of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Wilton.
Monsignor Scanlon served the Diocese of Bridgeport in a number of administrative positions. He was territorial vicar of the Fairfield and West Bridgeport region of the Diocese, and was a member of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council. He served as Diocesan Director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith; and headed the Diocesan Retired Priests Apostolate.
In his retirement, Monsignor Scanlon lived at the Catherine Dennis Keefe Queen of the Clergy Retired Priests residence in Stamford. As Rector of the Residence, he nurtured a strong camaraderie and spirit of good will among his brother priests In the house, Monsignor Scanlon was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Jack.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Scanlon, of New Haven; his niece, Louise Scanlon Meyerjack, of Cheshire; his nephew. John Thomas (Jack) Scanlon, II, and his wife. Linda, grandnieces and nephews: Kristen and Matthew Meyerjack and Meghan and John Thomas Scanlon, III; and a cousin, Helen Collins, of Madison.
Viewing hours will be on Friday, June 11, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at Saint Augustine Cathedral, 359 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Reverend William E. Lori, S.T.D., Bishop of Bridgeport, at 10:30 a.m., at the Cathedral.
Interment will follow in the Priest's Circle of Saint Michael Cemetery
in Stratford.

Amelia M. Thomas, 81, of New Milford, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at New Milford Health and Rehab Center, after a long illness. She was the wife of 55 years of the late Richard F. Thomas.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Glastonbury, CT., June 9, 1922, daughter of the late Dwight and Minerva Simon Chapman.
She grew up in Westville Village, New Haven and lived for 45 years on Wintergreen Avenue in Hamden, CT, before moving to New Milford in 1994. She worked as a certified recreational therapist for 10 years.
She was a charter member of the CT. Winnebago Motor Home Club and traveled widely.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by 2 sons, Peter N. Thomas of New Milford and Richard D. Thomas of Hamden; 1 daughter, Susan A. Ralph of Rural hall, N.C; and 2 grandchildren, Tracy Ralph of Memphis, TN and Christopher Ralph of Orlando, Fl.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery, Gaylordsville Ct.

Pelagia (Pauline) Jazinsky McIntosh

Pelagia (Pauline) Jazinsky McIntosh, a resident of North Miami Beach, FL, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 10, 2004 at Parkway Regional Medical Center in North Miami, FL.
Born in Brooklyn N.Y. Jan. 18, 1920, she was the second born daughter of the late George and Pelagia (Pereviznyk) Jazinsky.
She was a graduate of Danbury Schools, she moved to Florida in 1965 and worked as a restaurant manager. Her retirement years were spent with her family and Birthday Club Girls.
She was predeceased by her husband Francis and son Glenn Hunter McIntosh. She was also predeceased by her sisters: Olga Pereviznyc, Mary Fern Stavola and Vera Cardillo.
She is survived by her son Kevin James McIntosh of Florida and her sisters: Marion Cappellano, Francis Ruppell, Julie Lynch of Danbury, Sophie Bard of Pawling N.Y., Dorothy Bauer of Lake Aviel P.A. and Ann Pompea of New Fairfield: as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Pelagia will be sadly missed by her Birthday Club friend, Roberta Lightbourne of North Miami Florida and her foster son Najeeb Iqbal of North Miami Fl.
Pelagias funeral was held May 13, 2004 at Lithgow Bennett Philbrick Funeral Home, North Miami Florida.
