Robert T. Cahill
VERNON -- Robert T. Cahill, 86, husband of the late Emma W. Gardon Cahill, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in his home.
He was born in New Haven, a son of the late Thomas F. and Nellie M. Delay Cahill, he was a resident of Vernon for the past 18 years. He and his family had lived in Meriden for many years prior to moving to Vernon. He retired in 1971, as maintenance supervisor with the state of Connecticut Highway Department after 29 years of employment. Before which he had owned the Cahill Atlantic Service Station in Hartford for many years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He had also served in the State Guard Reserve Infantry as a second lieutenant. He was a member of the AARP, the Vernon Senior Citizens and he had been a member of the Meriden VFW.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith C. and Michael Traverso of Wethersfield, Barbara C. and William Doucette of Wallingford; six grandchildren, Kristen and her husband, William Dunnirvine, Todd Rainville and his fiancée, Julie Esper, Michael, Matthew, Alicia and Jason Vaughn; four step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Blain of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Rose Gardon of Vernon and Adeline G. Mulouin of Meriden and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Viola Durkin.
His funeral service will be private held for the convenience of his family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Meriden. Mr. Cahill's family requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, South Central Connecticut Chapter, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06514.
George A. Cannan
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- George A. Cannan, 81, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Wallingford died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Margaret Cairns Cannan.
He was born May 4, 1919, in West Haven, a son of the late John and Lucy Williams Cannan, graduated from West Haven High School and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He retired from the United Illuminating Co., in 1981 and had resided in Florida since 1982.
Mr. Cannan is survived by daughters, Lucille Burkle (Richard) of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., and Beverly Dombrowski (Richard) of Houston; grandsons, Scott Burkle of Wethersfield, Thomas Burkle of Lawrenceville, Ga., Richard Dombrowski Jr., of Houston and Derek Dombrowski of San Antonio, Texas ; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, William and John Cannan of Connecticut.
Funeral services will be held at Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden, Saturday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 493 Whitney Ave., New Haven, Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to the Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
Brian M. Comerford
MIDDLEBURY -- Brian Michael Comerford, 32, of 124 Tranquillity Road, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Waterbury. He was the husband of Dana Lynn (Cocchiola) Comerford.
Mr. Comerford was born Feb. 15, 1969, in Danbury, a son of Margaret (Duffy) Daniels of Woodbury and the late Thomas P. Comerford. Mr. Comerford attended the Newtown grammar school system, was a 1987 graduate of Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury and received his associates degree from Mattatuck College in Waterbury. He served with the Bco1-102nd Infantry Light, was a sergeant first class in charge of First Platoon, recently completing training for upcoming deployment to Bosnia on a NATO peacekeeping mission. Serving for years with the Connecticut National Guard, and the U.S. Army, he had received numerous awards, decorations, and had distinguished himself during NATO exercises in Canada. He volunteered with the Middlebury Fire Department, since 1997, and had been a EMT for Champion and Middlebury Ambulances. Mr. Comerford was a fireman for the City of Meriden, and a member of St. Teresa's Church in Woodbury.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by his son, Brian M., two daughters, Siobhan De, and Fionna Aeschlyn, all of Middlebury; a brother, Thomas P. Comerford II of Terryville; a stepfather, Richard H. Daniels of Woodbury; five sisters, Laura J. Mathlson of Newtown, Patricia M Ricci of Northfield, Alison Staszak of Washington , Kathryn Comerford of Florida, Danielle Comerford of Florida; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, Main St., South Route 6 on Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Teresa's Church on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. Burial will be held in the New North Cemetery, Woodbury in the spring. Peter F. Hayes
SOUTHINGTON -- Peter F. Hayes, 66, of Southington, husband of Linda (Zamoic) Hayes, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, after a brief illness.
Born in Everett, Mass., he was the son of the late Franklin and Frances (MacNeil) Hayes. He was a highly decorated soldier and POW in the Korean War. He attended UMass and Worcester State College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1962. He also did graduate work at Central Connecticut State University. Peter's life was dedicated to children and learning. The majority of his career was spent in the Bristol school system, where he was a special education teacher in many of the Bristol Schools, and most recently at Bristol Central High School. He was a member of the Bristol Italian Social Club and a former member of the Library Board and Democratic Town Council.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his son, Christopher Peter Hayes of Randolph, Mass.; and his daughters, Julie Francis Johnson of West Medford, Mass., Laurie Ann Scotti of Bristol and Amy Margaret Hayes of Marlborough, Mass.; also by three grandsons, Anthony Vincent and Maximillian Kane Scotti of Bristol and Daniel Marc Johnson of West Medford, Mass.; a brother, Dennis Hayes of Framingham, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Shirley (Kane) Hayes; and his sister, Patty Varney. Peter's great passions in life were his family, reading, traveling and animals. He will be sorely missed by his four-legged friends, Odie (his best pal,) Sophy and Frederica.
Calling hours will be in Sunday, Feb. 25, at the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, from 1 to 4 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Peter's memory to the Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., Southington, CT 06489, or to the Bristol Public Library, 5 High St., Bristol, CT 06010.
Joseph J. Palmieri
ORANGE -- Joseph J. Palmieri, husband of the late Anna Annunziata Palmieri, of 265 Argyle Road, Orange passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001.
Before moving to West Haven in 1948, Joseph was associated with a family florist business in Southington. He retired in 1974 from Detroit Steel as a crane operator.
He was the father of Lorena Capone, and father-in-law, of Robert P. Capone Sr. of Orange; brother of James Palmieri, Anna Maddalena and Mary Izzo all of Southington; grandfather of Robert P. Capone Jr. and his wife, Dina of Bridgeport, Kara A. and Elizabeth E. Capone, both of Orange. He was predeceased by brothers, Salvatore and Alphonse Palmieri; and sisters, Jessie Lavorgna and Julia Dabbraccio.
Funeral services from the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green, Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Holy Infant Church at 10 a.m. The hours for visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
John Severa
MERIDEN -- John "Lefty" Severa, 82, of 74 Cricket Drive, wife of Alice Solek Severa, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at home in the presence of his family after a brief illness.
Born in Throop, Pa., on Dec. 11, 1918, a son of the late Anthony Severa and Pearl Falisiewicz Severa, he had resided in Meriden since 1947. Mr. Severa was employed by Pratt and Whitney (East Hartford) as an inspector for over 35 years, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Mr. Severa was a member of the following: past president of Meriden Umpires Association, PLAV, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Civilian Conservation Corp, the National Association, of Professional Baseball Leagues and of the Connecticut College Baseball Umpires Association.
Besides his wife of 52 years, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary A. and Thomas J. Shanahan of Southington and Donna L. and Joseph M. Vercher of Wallingford; a son, John A. Severa of Meriden; three grandchildren, Christine Shanahan, Alicia Vercher and Jennifer Vercher; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen and Charles Siwinski of Peckville, Pa., Sophie DeFelice of Scranton, Pa., and Stella Jaconsky of Paramus, N.J.; also be several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Frank, Louis, Walter and Mike Severa, all of Pennsylvania .
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the Mass from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The family welcomes gifts in his memory to the Franciscan Home Care, 267 Finch Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.
Anthony E. Terriciano
SOUTHINGTON -- Anthony E. Terriciano, 71, of 13638 N. Newcastle Drive, Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Southington, died Wednesday Feb. 14, 2001. He was the husband of Claire (Demars) Terriciano.
Born May 20, 1929, in Meriden, a son of the late Anthony A. and Esther (Gobiski) Terriciano. He had retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft of Middletown as chief quality control. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict serving in the U.S. Navy. He attended the University of Hartford. Mr. Terriciano had lived in Southington for 25 years, moving to Spring Hill, Fla., and then to Sun City, Ariz. He had been a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Terricciano and his wife, Beth of Avon and Gary Terriciano and his wife, Sarah of Glendale, Ariz.; three brothers, Louis Terricciano of Pomfret, Robert Terricciano of Spring Hill, Fla., and Richard Terricciano of Hydeville, Vt., three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Terricciano of Southington, Molly Terriciano of Glendale, Ariz., and Lauren Terricciano of Avon; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The Funeral will be held Tuesday , 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery

Walter J. Zwible Sr.
WALLINGFORD -- Walter J. Zwible Sr., 85, of Mohawk Drive, Wallingford, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at the Skyview Center in Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Mary E. Matriko Zwible.
Born in Wallingford, April 21, 1915, he was a son of the late Alexander and Katherine Glenewich Zwible and had been a lifelong resident. He was employed by Wallace Silversmiths of Wallingford for 40 years until his retirement in 1980. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW Major Raoul Lufbery Post No. 591, the Polish National Alliance Group 513, and the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club, all of Wallingford, He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.
Besides his beloved wife, Mary, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Emil Polson of Wallingford; his son and daughter-in-law, Walter J. Zwible Jr. and Joan Zwible of Needham, Mass.; his four grandchildren, Lisa and Christopher Polson and Loreen and Andrew Zwible; his three sisters, Nellie (Mrs. Stanley) Augustine of Wallingford, Mae (Mrs. Jack) Olmstead of Guilford and Sophie (Mrs. Ernest) Marshall of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jennie Jarzabek; and a brother, Alexander Zwible.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors, will be in St. John Cemetery

Jeffrey P. Davies
WALLINGFORD -- Jeffrey P. Davies, 53, of 5 Evanwood Drive, died suddenly on Monday, Feb. 19, 2001.
Born in Southington on Oct. 2, 1947, he was the son of Jean (Kremski) Davies of Wallingford and the late Oswald Davies. He had graduated from Lyman Hall High School and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
Besides his mother he is survived by a sister, Cheryl Halten of North Carolina; and also by several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
