Robert E. Reney
SOUTHINGTON -- Robert E. Reney, 60, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Plantsville died Jan. 17, 2001, in Port Charlotte. He was the husband of Carolyn L. (Wallace) Reney.
Born on July 31, 1940, in New Britain, a son of the late Eugene and Agnes (Campbell) Reney. He was formerly employed by the Torrington Co.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard Reney of Plantsville; a daughter, Donna Reney and her fiancé, Michael Burns of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a brother, Michael Reney of Southington; a sister, Jean Dorman of Englewood, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9:45 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Thomas Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Edward R. Delorge
CLAYTON, N.C. -- Edward Roland Delorge, 63, of 119 River Bend Drive, Clayton, N.C., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, N.C.
Born on Jan. 28, 1937, in Biddeford, Maine, he was the son of the late Roland and Jeanne Loranger Delorge. He was a member of the Catholic faith and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Until his retirement, he was employed by C&K/Unimax for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine E. Delorge; a son, Jaimie Delorge of Wallingford; a daughter, Michelle Proto of Meriden; three sisters, Dorothy Beane of Farmington, Maine, Patricia Kirk of Meriden and Joanne Trautner of Middletown. He was predeceased by a grandson, Zachary Adam.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. in St. Andrews Church, Meriden. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Gordon Garrett Jr.
WALLINGFORD -- Gordon Garrett Jr., 75, formerly of McKenna Court, Wallingford, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was the husband of the late Barbara A. Gahan Garrett.
Born in Athens, Ga., March 8, 1925, a son of the late Gordon Garrett Sr. and Cora Beck Garrett, he had been a Wallingford resident for many years. He had been employed by the Wallingford Board of Education for several years until his retirement in 1975. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy and had been a member of AMVETS. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection.
Mr. Garrett is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, William G. and Laurel A. Garrett of Hamden and Timothy J. and Sheila M. Garrett of Leominster, Mass.; his grandchildren, Brett, Nicole, William Jr., Timothy Jr., Scott and Catherine; his great-grandson, James; his three sisters, Emmabelle, Claudine and Rosetta; his brother, Jessy, all of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Allen Garrett.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Thursday (TODAY) from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
Merle H. Lamb
WEST HAVEN -- Merle H. Lamb, 95, of 43 Wallace St., West Haven, husband of Harriet Meadows Lamb, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Wallingford.
He was born May 20, 1905, in Baldwinville, Mass., son of the late Cecil and Ora Jewett Lamb. He retired in 1988 from the Austin Organ Inc., of Hartford, as a pipe organ technician. He was a 50-year member of Annawon Lodge No. 115 AF & AM of West Haven.
He was the father of Alice L. Graves and her husband, Charles Graves of Wallingford; grandfather of Wayne Hamilton of West Haven, Roy Hamilton of Hamden, Larry Graves of Plainville, Charles Graves, U.S. Army and Linda Barnes, both of Wallingford; also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Louise L. Hamilton; a sister, Stella Blackden; and a grandson, Mark Hamilton.

Lorraine P. Shiffer
MERIDEN -- Lorraine Price Shiffer, 89, of 292 Thorpe Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at the Connecticut Baptist Home in Meriden. She was the wife of the late Rev. Dr. Fred L. Shiffer.
Born in Plains, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Carolyn (Gregor) Price. She lived in Plymouth and Lancaster, Pa., before coming to Meriden in 1948. Her husband was the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Meriden until his retirement in 1978. Upon her husband's death, Mrs. Shiffer resided in Concordia, Kan., and Brookfield, Wis., before returning to Meriden in 1999. Mrs. Shiffer was very active as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Shiffer is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Ann and George E. Daniels of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Michele Shiffer of Middletown, David and Adele Shiffer of Middlebury; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The burial will be at the discretion of the family with a memorial service held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Connecticut Baptist Home, 292 Thorpe Ave., Meriden. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or MidState Hospital Auxiliary. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery
in Meriden. Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home in Greenville, R.I.
Katherine D. Bowe
DURHAM -- Katherine Daly Bowe, 95, of Sand Hill Road, Durham, formerly of Wallingford, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Highview Health Care Center in Middletown.
Born in Wallingford, Oct. 3, 1905, a daughter of the late George M. and Katherine Kelly Daly, she was a lifelong Wallingford resident before moving to Durham 12 years ago. Mrs. Bowe had been employed by the Stanley-Judd Co., formerly of Wallingford for 25 years until her retirement 30 years ago. She had been a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and a member of the Ladies' Guild. She had been a member of the Stanley Drapery Girls Club and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Mrs. Bowe is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Robert Bowe Jr. and Joan Bowe of Durham; her four grandchildren Charles Robert Bowe III, Lori Ann Susi, Brenda Marie Waldner and Kevin Thomas Bowe; her sister, Marion (Mrs. Norman) Hines, of Charlotte, N.C.; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, James J. Daly and George M. Daly.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Saturday from 9 to 10:15 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Notre Dame Church, 272 Main St., Durham, for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Wallingford. Rosemary Copeland
SOUTHINGTON -- Rosemary Copeland, 64, of 20 Glenn Drive, beloved wife of George F. Copeland, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in New Britain on Nov. 10, 1936, the daughter of Rose Nolan Kyle and the late James F. Nolan, Rosemary was a lifelong resident of Southington. She graduated from Southington High School in 1954 and attended Post Junior College in Waterbury, where she earned a business degree. She worked for Salka & Sons Movers in Meriden until her retirement in 1997. Rosemary was an active member of Mary Our Queen Church and the Ladies' Guild. She volunteered many hours for the American Cancer Society, setting up collections and participating in many walk-a-thons.
A devoted mother, she is also survived by two daughters, Veronica and Ronald Marek of Southington, Deborah and Robert Winiarski of Bristol; a son, Cliff Copeland of Southington; and a close friend, Cherie Morrison; also five beautiful grandchildren, Jason and Amanda Marek, Alysha and Jonathan Winiarski and Sky Copeland; and an adoring stepfather, Willard Kyle; two brothers-in-law, Ronald and Cornine Copeland of Meriden and Albert and Edna Copeland of Clearwater, Fla. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph F. Nolan. Rosemary will be remembered for her giving nature with other cancer patients or with others in distress, her sense of humor and love of life. Rosemary loved to travel and spend time with family.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Mary Our Queen Church, 248 Savage St., Plantsville, for a Mass. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Anthony P. Della Vecchia
BRISTOL -- Anthony P. Della Vecchia Sr., 78, of 27 Jerome Ave., died Tuesday Jan. 16, 2001, at home. He was the husband of the late Lenore (Thresten) Della Vecchia.
Born Oct. 23, 1922, in Southington, the son of the late Louis and Philomena (Picone) Della Vecchia. Prior to his retirement in 1987 he was employed by Consolidated Industries in Cheshire. Anthony was an active member of St. Gregory's Church.
He is survived by two sons, Terry and his wife, Mary Della Vecchia of Bristol and James and his wife, Jackie Della Vecchia of Pennsylvania ; a daughter, Lisa, and her husband, Bill Richards of Kensington; three sisters, Florence Triano, Mary Palazzo and Helen Fietkiewicz, all of Southington; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Anthony P. Della Vecchia Jr.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Gregory Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Bianca L. Figlioli
MERIDEN -- Bianca L. Figlioli of Meriden died on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001. Miss Figlioli was born and lived in Meriden. She was the daughter of the late Gerald and Filomena (Russillo) Figlioli. Miss Figlioli attended local schools and worked at New Departure, Hyatt-Bearing Division of General Motors, until her retirement.
She is survived by two brothers, Thomas G. Figlioli of Meriden and Aldo F. Russell of Florida; and a sister, Beatrice F. Buccy of Meriden. She was predeceased by five sisters, Sylvia Figlioli, Lena Silvestro, Angelina Milardo, Adeline LaBella and Ida Mellor.
The family invites friends and relatives to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, CT 06450. Stanley J. Hancock Jr.
MERIDEN -- Stanley J. Hancock Jr., 70, of 86 Sandy Lane, husband of Lorraine (Pisarz) Hancock, died suddenly on Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at MidState Medical Center.
Born in Meriden on Aug. 31, 1930, he was the son of the late Stanley J. Hancock Sr. and Julia (Fijol) Hancock. He was a lifelong resident of Meriden, a graduate of Meriden High School and of the University of Connecticut College of Pharmacy. In 1959, Mr. Hancock established and operated Hancock's Pharmacy in Meriden. In 1984, his son, Greg, joined him in the business. He was a peacetime veteran in the U.S. Army and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Stanley was a former member of the Meriden Rotary Club, the American Association of Consultant Pharmacists, the Connecticut Pharmaceutical Association, the National Association Retail Pharmacists, a recipient of the Community Service Award for Independent Pharmacists and the 1989 Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce Award. Mr. Hancock was a contributor to Mercy-Xavier programs, a platinum sponsor of Xavier's Alumni Golf Tournament, donated his business location for community car washes and plant sales for various events; received numerous pharmacists' awards, donated to the Meriden PBA annual fishing derby and sponsored girls and boys baseball and softball teams in Meriden. Mayor Marinan officially proclaimed July 22, 1995, as "Stanley and Lorraine Hancock Day" in the city of Meriden in tribute to the fine contributions given our community by Mr. and Mrs. Hancock. Mr. Hancock truly devoted his life to his family, business and community and was always generous to others in a quiet way.
Besides his wife, Lorraine, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Allison and Anthony Wiernasz of Meriden, Claudia and Paul Jones of Fishers, Ind. and Sarah and Jason Klees of Orlando, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Kathleen Hancock of Meriden; 11 grandchildren, Erika, Jillian, Brittany, Adam, Melyssa, Matthew, Meredith, Anneka, Paulette, Nicholas and future baby Klees; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Vern Hunter of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Clinton; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Breininger; several nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Hancock.
The funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
