Marcella Fritz

MERIDEN -- Marcella (Walsh) Fritz, 85, of 320 Colony St., wife of the late Victor R. Fritz, died on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center in Wallingford after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden, on Dec. 20, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Cecilia (Logan) Walsh and had lived in Meriden for 50 years prior to living in Wethersfield and Deltona, Fla., before retiring to Meriden six years ago. She attended local schools and graduated from New Britain Normal School and received her master's degree from Central Connecticut State Teachers College. Mrs. Fritz was an elementary school teacher and reading consultant for a number of years in Meriden, Newington and Hartford. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church.

Mrs. Fritz is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen F. and Albert A. Gaudelli, Esq., of Forest Hills, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Albert Gaudelli Jr. and his wife, Yanira Gaudelli, Victor Gaudelli and Giana Gaudelli, Esq.; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Alexandra Gaudelli; a sister, Harriette W. Curtin of Meriden.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Bradley Home, 320 Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

George L. Hebert

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- George L. Hebert, 74, of Coral Springs, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001.

George was born and raised in Waterbury and was a longtime resident of Connecticut. He and his wife, Mary Patricia, moved to South Florida in 1980 from Wallingford, where they had lived for 25 years. George served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary P. (Pat) of Coral Springs, Fla.; his children and their families, Michael and Vivienne Hebert and their daughter, Gabriella of Romsey, England, Greg and Regina Hebert and their children, Lauren, Daniel and Clare of Newtown, George and Joanne Hebert Jr. and their sons, Michael, George III and Jeffrey of Wallingford, Peggy and Paul Dyer Jr. and their children, Kaitlyn, Jennifer, Michelle and Matthew of Wallingford, Jeffrey and JoAnne Hebert and their daughter, Mary of Wallingford, Charles Hebert of Boca Raton, Fla., and Laura Erisman and her sons, Christopher and Robert of Coral Springs, Fla.; a brother, Gerard of Waterbury; three sisters, Roseanne Stevens of Middlebury, Rose Snodgrass of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Barbara Streeter of Daytona Beach, Fla.; uncle, John Paul (J.P.) Doyon of Melbourne, Fla.; two aunts, Anita Clark of Cleveland, Tenn., and Rolande Doyon of Wolcott; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Richard H. Miller Sr.

MERIDEN -- Richard H. Miller Sr., 79, of North Colony Road, Meriden, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis E. Rogers Miller.

Born in Cornwall Bridge, Conn., Jan. 24, 1922, he was a son of the late Anna Pardee Miller Flagg and Harry Miller and had been a Meriden resident for many years. Mr. Miller was a self-employed carpet installer for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 3rd Marine Division with the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stanley Budleski Post No. 9965 in Yalesville. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Meriden.

Besides his beloved wife, Phyllis, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nadine L. and Thomas J. Kowalec Sr. of Southington and Patricia S. and Elias A. Rivera of Meriden; three sons and daughter-in-law, Richard H. Miller Jr., Michael J. Miller and Jeffrey P. and Madeline Miller, all of Meriden; 10 grandchildren, Thomas J. Kowalec Jr., Jenifer L. Miller, Michelle L. Miller, Jessie M. Miller, Rebecca J. Miller, Madeline S. Miller, Jeffrey P. Miller Jr., Chanelle N. Freitas and Cherise E. Rivera and Sydney T. Rivera; a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Grace; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his step-father, Harold Flagg; and his brother, William Miller.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial funeral service, Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Meriden. The Rev. Ken Frazier will officiate. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the First Congregational Church of Meriden, 62 N. Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451, or to the VFW Stanley Budleski Post No. 9965, 424 Church St., Yalesville, CT 06492. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford.

Joseph W. Dumais

MERIDEN -- Joseph W. Dumais, 45, of 41 New Cheshire Rd., South Meriden, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Jan. 19, 2001.

He was born Aug. 25, 1955, in Meriden, a son of the late Wilfred and Amy (Jocelyn) Dumais. He was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church.

Joseph is survived by six brothers, William Murdy, Rev. Edward (Dumais) Sherman, both of Meriden, Leo and Robert Dumais, both of South Meriden, Joseph Murdy of Anchorage, Alaska and John Murdy of Atlanta, Ga.; and three sisters, Roseanna Sobol of Meriden, Sylvia Benson of Brattleboro, Vt. and Mary Avery of East Lakes, Ohio; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. A service will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Roland LaPlante of Holy Angels Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph's memory can be made to the Church of Restoration, P.O. Box 650, Meriden, CT 06451. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 East Main St., Meriden has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Nellie E. Ferguson

NORTHFORD -- Nellie E. Boyce Ferguson, 91, of Middletown Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at the Talmadge Park Nursing Home, East Haven. She was the wife of the late Earle C. Ferguson.

She was born in High Park, Mass. on June 2, 1909, daughter of the late Ivan and Eva May Skinner Boyce. She had worked for International Silver Co. for many years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and its Ladies Guild for many years.

She leaves daughters, Joyce Cecarelli of Northford and Betty A. Aceto of Branford; a foster daughter, Audrey Langella of Hamden; sister of Dorothy Kirkby of Green, N.Y., Frances Brown of Charlotte, N.C. and the late Florence Brooks, Russell, Edward and Newton Boyce. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Northford. Interment will follow in the Northford Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the North Haven funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Middletown Ave., Northford, CT 06472.

Gerald V. Kennedy

CHESHIRE -- Gerald V. Kennedy, 79, of 1720 Old Waterbury Road, husband of Mildred (Mann) Kennedy, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington.

Besides his wife, he leaves one son, Roger V. Kennedy of Cheshire; two daughters, Diane Graves of Plantsville and Eileen Kennedy of Cheshire; one sister, Mary Veronica Wooding of Port Orange, Fla.; one grandson, Thomas Graves; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Kennedy; and one son-in-law, Donald Graves.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury to the Church of the Epiphany for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Calling hours are Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Lung Assoc., 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.

Rose M. Francolini

MERIDEN -- Rose M. Francolini, 97, of 320 Colony St., formerly of 167 Franklin St., wife of the late Prosper Francolini, died on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at the Bradley Home in Meriden after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden, on March 22, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Nickolas and Maria (Pignato) Marchetti, and had resided in Meriden for most of her life. Mrs. Francolini and her husband moved to Florida after their marriage and after her husband's death she returned to Meriden. She was a graduate of St. Rose Parochial School and was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.

She is survived by four nieces, Margaret Zimmerman of Meriden, Eleanor Riccio of East Hartford, Maria Tangarone and Janis Sunderland both of Narragansett, R.I.; two nephews, Nickolas Marchetti of Southington and Peter Zimmerman of Wethersfield; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Jan. 22, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Rita A. Hacku

WALLINGFORD -- Rita A. Fanfesti Hacku, 85, of Cheshire Road, Wallingford, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001. She was the beloved wife of John F. Hacku.

Born in Hoboken, N.J., Sept. 23, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Fanfello and Teodolinda Varese Fanfesti and had been a lifelong Wallingford resident. She was a member of the Wallingford Senior Citizens Center and had been a volunteer at the Masonic Geriatric and Healthcare Center in Wallingford. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville and a member of the Ladies Guild of the church for many years, and more recently, she was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford.

Besides her beloved husband, John, she is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and John Otto of Guilford, Rita and Walter Pacheco of Wallingford and Jeanette and Jack Schuster of Killingworth; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Mary Ann Hacku of Windsor, Calif., Ronald and Kathleen Hacku of Guilford and Robert Hacku of Meriden; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Ann Caswell of Rye, N.H., and Harriet Crocco of Fairfield; and a brother, Edward Fanfesti of Portland; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Louise Carroll; and a brother, Edo Fanfesti.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Monday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Wallingford Historic Preservation Trust, P.O. Box 362, Wallingford, CT 06492.

James R. O'Brien

MERIDEN -- James R. O'Brien, of Stoddard Drive, died on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Palm Beach Gardens Hospital, Palm Beach, Fla., after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden, he was a lifelong resident and had attended Meriden schools. Mr. O'Brien was employed by Suzio Construction for 22 years, retiring in 1988. After his retirement he was self-employed as a painter. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy as a Seabee and with the Merchant Marines. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, a member of the Meriden Chapter of the VFW and of the VFW Post No. 9965. He was also a member of the American Legion Post. No. 45, the A.O.H. and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. O'Brien is survived by a sister, Mrs. Barbara Nowaset of Meriden; two nieces, Brenda Trumpold of Westfield and Kathy Couture of Hardwick, Vt.; a grandniece, Jennifer; and three grandnephews, Eric, Matthew and Ernest.

The funeral will be held on Monday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. in the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Alma M. Porter

MERIDEN -- Alma M. Porter, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington. She was the wife of the late Kenneth W. Porter.

A lifelong resident of Meriden, she was born Aug. 27, 1908, a daughter of the later Herman M. and Augusta L. Pisall Mielke. She attended local schools and graduated from the Pequod Business School. Mrs. Porter was retired as a secretary at the Meriden Child Guidance Center. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Aid Society and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League Guild.

She is survived by a son, Warren W. Porter and his wife, Betty of Southington; two grandsons, David K. Porter and his wife, Cherrie of Southington and Randall J. Porter and his wife, Jamie of South Meriden; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas J. Porter of Southington and Jason R. Alia of South Meriden; and two nephews, Robert Mielke and David Mielke, both of Meriden.

The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 520 Paddock Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Robert Mikulastik will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
