Stephen F. Rockwell

Stephen Francis Rockwell, age 48, of Bradley Lane, Sandy Hook, died Thursday at Yale New Haven Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Rockwell was born in Danbury, September 28, 1955, a son of James T. Rockwell of Spotsylvania County, Va. and the late Patricia F. Perrotti Rockwell. He was educated in Danbury, attending Henry Abbott Technical School and Western Connecticut State College. He was a freelance Mechanical Designer for the manufacturing industry and had worked at Bodine, Inc. of Bridgeport and the former Hughes Danbury Optical Systems. Steve was an avid bridge player and was a member of the Danbury Bridge club.
Besides his father, he is survived by two daughters: Rachel K. Rockwell and Robin K. Rockwell both of Newtown; a brother: Richard A. Rockwell of Sandy Hook; two sisters: Elizabeth M. Rockwell of Danbury, Sharon L. Hutchings of Columbus, Ohio; his fiancie: Crystal M. Stauffer and her daughter Phoenix of Naugatuck; his former wife: Patricia Marble Rockwell of Newtown; as well as nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to benefit his daughters, c/o Richard A. Rockwell, 21 Osborne Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06482.
A memorial service will be held at the Hull Funeral Home, Sixty Division Street, Danbury, Sunday afternoon at 4:00. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends at the Hull Home, during the hour preceding the service, from 3:00 to 4:00.
Mary J. (Sciacca) Pitman

Mary J. (Sciacca) Pitman of Deepwood Drive, Danbury, wife of the late William Pitman, died on Wednesday, March 31st at the Danbury Hospital at the age of 81. She was born in Jersey City, NJ. on April 22, 1922, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (McGuire) Sciacca. She was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High in New Jersey.
Mrs. Pitman was a loving and dedicated mother. She was a member of the Danbury community for 36 years and worked as an electronic technician for both Qualitron and Photronic Labs. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Danbury.
She will be sadly missed by her cherished daughter, Stephanie Pitman of Danbury; and son, Gregory Pitman of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; three grandchildren, Christopher, Emilie and George Pitman; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Pitman. She is also survived by her very close friend, Brigid Rotella.
Funeral services will be private. Cremation and interment will take place at the convenience of the family. The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Gilbert Fong

Gilbert Fong, 64, of Carol Ann Drive, Newtown, died at his home Thursday April 1, 2004 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Wendy (Leopold) Fong.
Mr. Fong was born in Melrose, Mass. on January 15, 1940, a son of the late Young and Shee (Wong) Fong. He was a graduate of Northeastern University, Class of 1963 with bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. For the past 25 years he has been employed as a senior analyst for SBC, formerly SNET.
He was lover of fine music and was treasurer of the Connecticut Master Chorale of Western Connecticut. A resident of Newtown since 1978, he was an avid tennis player and a member of the Newtown Tennis Association, where he was a past publicity chairman. He had also been voted "Man of the Year" by the association.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Fong is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Weiler and her husband Geoffrey of Mesa, Ariz.; one nephew, Steven Weiler of Groveland, Mass.; and two nieces, Linda Dutil of Mesa, Ariz. and Julee Weiler of Groveland, Mass.
Following cremation a memorial service will be held at a place and time to be announced. Interment will be private. Contributions may be made to CT Master Chorale of Western Connecticut, P.O. Stephen J. Wargo

Stephen J. Wargo, age 92, of Johnson Drive, Sandy Hook, died Wednesday March 31, 2004 in Riverglen Convalescent Home, Southbury. He was born in New Castle, N.H. April 7, 1911, son of the late Stephen and Jessie (Meloon) Wargo.
Mr. Wargo was a resident of Hartford several years. He worked in the mailing room at Aetna Insurance Co. He was also employed at one time at Sage-Allen Department Store. Following his retirement he moved to Sandy Hook.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. He was attached to the Office of Strategic Services, stationed in India-Burma, as a Master Sergeant.
He is survived by two brothers, Everett Wargo of Southbury and Charlie Wargo of Tequesta, Fla.; three sisters, Anna McMahon of Sandy Hook, Barbara Booker of Woodbury and Patricia Coman of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday April 5, 2004 9:30 a.m. from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown and at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment Riverview Cemetery, New Castle, New Hampshire.

Irene Doran Short

Irene Doran Short, 55, of Ottawa, Canada, formerly of Danbury, died at her residence in Ottawa on March 24, 2004.
She was born in Danbury, January 26, 1949, daughter of Richard and Rita (Stock) Doran of Danbury. Irene was a graduate of St. Joseph's School in Danbury, the Kenwood Academy in Albany, N.Y. and had attended Fordham University in the Bronx, where she had been a member of the Fordham University choir. She was a graduate of the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada, where she had been a member of the City of Toronto choir, and had received her degree in Philosophy from the University of Ottawa. Irene had been a Canadian resident since she attended school there and had worked in the finance department for the City of Ottawa.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in the family plot in St. Peter Cemetery.

Paul J. Rosa, Jr.

Paul J. Rosa, Jr., 76, of Ridgefield, husband of Kathryn (Venus) Rosa, died on Friday, March 26, 2004, in Newport Beach, California.
Mr. Rosa was born in Stamford, August 11, 1927, a son of the late Paul J. and Anna (Annunziato) Rosa.
Raised in Stamford and Darien, he attended Stamford schools, graduated from Stamford High School and the University of Connecticut School of Engineering.
A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Rosa was retired from the Perkin-Elmer Corporation of Norwalk, after 40 years, where he was a manager of Information Systems.
A resident of Ridgefield for the past 47 years, coming from Darien, Mr. Rosa was active in the Ridgefield community. From 1960 to 1997, Mr. Rosa served the Town of Ridgefield in both governmental and non-governmental positions. From 1960 to 1964, he served on the Zoning Commission, 1964 to 1965, the Planning and Zoning Commission, 1965 to 1975, Republican Town Committee chairman, 1972 to 1976, the Parks and Recreation Commission, 1973, the Committee to provide tax relief for the elderly, 1981 to 1987, the Board of Selectmen, 1983 to 1984, the Data Processing Steering Committee and from 1987 to 1997, the Board of Finance. He had been a trustee of the Italian American Mutual Aid Society, had worked on Boy Scout fund drives, and had assisted the Norwalk YMCA. He was a founder and the first president of the Fairfield County UConn Alumni Association, and had served on the Building Fund Committee for the Stamford Branch of UConn.
Mr. Rosa had been a member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society and for 25 years, he served on the society's committee that had prepared examinations for certifications.
He had belonged to the Ridgefield Men's Club, and had been active years ago in the Young Republicans. He helped establish the Perkin-Elmer Retiree Club in 1991 and was elected it's first president.
In 1968, Mr. Rosa was given the Ridgefield Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, and he had been listed in both Who's Who in American Politics and in Community Leaders of America.
He was a member of the American Legion and of St. Mary's Church.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, a daughter, Elizabeth Beresford, of Newport Beach, Calif.; a brother, Robert Rosa, of Milford; a granddaughter, Amanda Kathryn, and two nieces and one nephew survive him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 11 a.m., in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield on Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m. The American Legion Service will be conducted in the funeral home at 5:30 p.m.

James B. Cooper

James Bracken Cooper, passed away at the age of 61 on March 29, 2004, in Danbury, as a result of lung disease.
Jim was born in Norwalk on November 17, 1942.
A longtime resident of Newtown, he was a 1960 graduate of Newtown High School and Post College. He later served in the Army Signal Corps and was a volunteer fireman with Newtown Hook and Ladder. He was also very involved in Newtown Youth Sports, acting as a coach in both soccer and little league.
Jim worked in the software industry for almost 30 years, with several notable companies, including Burroughs Corporation, Wang and IBM, until his retirement in 2002.
He was an avid skier, a professional ski instructor of America, who enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing, hiking and the ocean.
In later years, Jim was active in the fight against pulmonary fibrosis, helping drug companies develop new treatments, having the State of Connecticut declare a Statewide Day of Awareness, and counseling others who suffered from the disease.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife Karen, sons; Glenn and Scott, daughter, Suzanne, step-children; Kirsten, Justen and Taegen, step-grandchild, Leah, and brother, David.
Calling hours will be held today, 6 to 9 p.m., at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
A funeral service will be held Friday, 11:30 a.m., at the funeral home.

Amelia M. Thomas

Amelia M. Thomas, 81, of New Milford, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at New Milford Health and Rehab Center, after a long illness. She was the wife of 55 years of the late Richard F. Thomas.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Glastonbury, CT., June 9, 1922, daughter of the late Dwight and Minerva Simon Chapman.
She grew up in Westville Village, New Haven and lived for 45 years on Wintergreen Avenue in Hamden, CT, before moving to New Milford in 1994. She worked as a certified recreational therapist for 10 years.
She was a charter member of the CT. Winnebago Motor Home Club and traveled widely.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by 2 sons, Peter N. Thomas of New Milford and Richard D. Thomas of Hamden; 1 daughter, Susan A. Ralph of Rural hall, N.C; and 2 grandchildren, Tracy Ralph of Memphis, TN and Christopher Ralph of Orlando, Fl.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery, Gaylordsville Ct.

Pelagia (Pauline) Jazinsky McIntosh

Pelagia (Pauline) Jazinsky McIntosh, a resident of North Miami Beach, FL, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 10, 2004 at Parkway Regional Medical Center in North Miami, FL.
Born in Brooklyn N.Y. Jan. 18, 1920, she was the second born daughter of the late George and Pelagia (Pereviznyk) Jazinsky.
She was a graduate of Danbury Schools, she moved to Florida in 1965 and worked as a restaurant manager. Her retirement years were spent with her family and Birthday Club Girls.
She was predeceased by her husband Francis and son Glenn Hunter McIntosh. She was also predeceased by her sisters: Olga Pereviznyc, Mary Fern Stavola and Vera Cardillo.
She is survived by her son Kevin James McIntosh of Florida and her sisters: Marion Cappellano, Francis Ruppell, Julie Lynch of Danbury, Sophie Bard of Pawling N.Y., Dorothy Bauer of Lake Aviel P.A. and Ann Pompea of New Fairfield: as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Pelagia will be sadly missed by her Birthday Club friend, Roberta Lightbourne of North Miami Florida and her foster son Najeeb Iqbal of North Miami Fl.
Pelagias funeral was held May 13, 2004 at Lithgow Bennett Philbrick Funeral Home, North Miami Florida.

Charles E. "Red" Thompson

Charles E. "Red" Thompson, 76, of New Milford, Ct., died Monday, June 7, 2004, at New Milford Health and Rehab Center. He was the husband of the late Mary Herring Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was born in New Milford, Ct., July 25, 1927, son of the late Charles H. and Lucy Smalley Thompson.
He worked in the maintenance department of Winchester Electronics for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a former member of the Eagle Club of New Milford.
Mr. Thompson is survived by 2 sons, Charles H. Thompson of New Milford and Ronald Thompson of Kent, Ct.; 2 daughters, Donna Bryant of New Milford and Gail Barto of Dover Plains, New York; 2 sisters, Harriet DelRossa of New Milford and Anna Cross of Naugatuck, Ct.; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter Mary Pelletier Gee.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St. in New Milford, Ct. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery, New Milford.

Dominic J. Bedini

Dominic J. "Poni" Bedini, 84, of Ridgefield, died on Monday evening, June 7, 2004 at Laurel Ridge Nursing & Skilled Care Center, Ridgefield.
Mr. Bedini was born in Ridgefield, April 9, 1920, son of Louis and Antonia (Zandri) Bedini. He attended local schools and graduated from Ridgefield High School.
A World War II US Army veteran, Mr. Bedini was a paratrooper serving with the 101st Airborne Division, "the Screaming Eagles" and participated in the "D Day" invasion at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Taken as a Prisoner of War, Mr. Bedini also was wounded in action and was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal.
A mason contractor in the Ridgefield area for sixty years, he retied in 1985.
A sister Mary F. Braun of Wilton and several nieces and nephews survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:15AM in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
Burial will take place in Fairmount Cemetery, Sutton, Province of Quebec, Canada.
There will be no calling hours.
