Samuel W. Leonard

Samuel W. Leonard, 80, of Ponca City, Okla., a former Greenwich resident, died Monday, Sept. 15, at his home.
He died of pancreatic cancer, according to his family.
Mr. Leonard retired as a senior executive from the Continental Oil Company in New York, where he worked for 35 years.
Born Sept. 29, 1922, in Cumberland, R.I., he was the son of the late Samuel and Hazel Flagg Leonard.
Mr. Leonard served as a resident executive for Sahara Petroleum Co. in Egypt for six years, Pasa Petroquimica in Argentina for five years, Conoco Libya in Libya for five years, and Conoco Espaņola in Spain for two years. He served six years as vice president and general manager of Dubai (United Emirates) Petroleum Co., a subsidiary of Conoco.
He graduated from Cumberland High School and from Bryant College in 1941 with a degree in accounting. He worked for William A. Haskell & Co. in Pawtucket, R.I., before joining the U.S. Army.
During World War II, Mr. Leonard spent three years as a staff sergeant in the 413th Infantry Regiment. He was twice wounded in battle and was decorated for valor in addition to receiving two purple hearts. Following his discharge in 1945, he enrolled in Brown University and graduated in 1948. He graduated from Harvard Business School in 1969.
In 1982, Mr. Leonard retired to Ponca City and established a consulting firm, Leonard and Associates Inc.
In 1988, he was elected to the board of directors of Security Bank and Trust Co. in Ponca City, and later became chief executive officer of the bank.
In Ponca City, Mr. Leonard was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Oklahoma Heritage Association. He also served on the board of the Ponca City Country Club, the Ponca City Library, the Ponca City Hospital Authority and the Cimarron Broadband Project Inc. In 2003, he was asked to be a member of the Marland Estate Foundation Board.
He is survived by a sister, Jacqueline R. Turner of Dartmouth, Mass., and Boynton Beach, Fla.; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Carpenter Leonard, in May.
A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Grace Episcopal Church, 109 N. 13th St., Ponca City.
Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, 1901 E. Hubbard Road, Ponca City.

John Christian Johansen III

John Christian Johansen III, a resident of New Canaan for more than 40 years, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Greenwich Hospital. He was 68.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born March 17, 1935, he was a son of the late John Christian Johansen Jr. and June Mick Johansen.
Mr. Johansen graduated from Stepinac High School in New York. He earned a bachelor's degree from Fordham University and a master's degree in business administration with honors from New York University. He received a postgraduate certificate in international business from Harvard Business School.
He served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s, before being honorably discharged as a pilot. He continued to fly recreationally throughout his life.
Mr. Johansen served in senior management for Fortune 500 companies, including General Electric, General Foods, American Can, Avis and New England Dairies.
He was a consultant on Glenn Miller and the Army Air Force Band to Yale University's music department.
An avid volunteer, he worked with New Covenant House of Stamford, AmeriCares and New Canaan Historical Society. He was a charter member of Waveny Pool Committee and a committee member of Cancer Care. He volunteered with The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, based in New Haven.
Mr. Johansen was a member of the Senior Men's Club of New Canaan, Woodway Country Club of Darien and the New Canaan Winter Club. He is a former board member of the Convent of Sacred Heart in Greenwich.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Busse Johansen of New Canaan; a daughter, Kathleen Marie Johansen Stagg; and a brother, Peter Johansen of Greenwich.
He was predeceased by his son, Paul John Johansen, in 1979.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery
in New Canaan.

Elizabeth Chamberlain

Elizabeth "Betty" Chamberlain, 82, of Cos Cob, died Sunday, April 6, at her home.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Oct. 4, 1920, in Bridgeport, Mrs. Chamberlain was a daughter of the late John Joseph and Mary "Mae" MacDonald Kane.
She married A. Gordon Chamberlain, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 3.
Mrs. Chamberlain moved to Greenwich when she was 9 years old, attended public schools and graduated from Greenwich High School. She was a hairdresser who worked in several salons in Greenwich, including Greenwich Avenue's Vogue Salon, which was owned by her mother. She also worked at DMS in Greenwich and Putnam Trust on Mason Street for many years.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Chamberlain is survived by two daughters, Lynn Chamberlain of Cos Cob and Carol Chamberlain of Freeport, Maine.
She was predeceased by a brother, John J. Kane Jr.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Second Congregational Church, 139 E. Putnam Ave.

Arthur Wolf

Arthur "Buddy" F. Wolf, 63, of Greenwich, died Thursday, Oct. 7, at Greenwich Hospital.
He died of a stroke, according to his family.
Born June 28, 1941, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Arthur and Theresa Duffy Wolf.
Mr. Wolf was employed as a caretaker at various estates in Greenwich and Westchester County.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Byram and Glenville Veterans Associations.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rosita Myslwitz Wolf of Greenwich; a daughter, Cathy Wolf Holloway of Stamford; four sisters, Barbara Galasso of Norwalk, Mary Ellen Dunbar of Danbury, Theresa Brubeck of Wilton and Ann Bickell of Cheshire; and two brothers, James Wolf of Bellingham, Wash., and Paul Wolf of Ridgefield.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, John and Peter Wolf.
Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday, at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry St., Byram.
Burial will be private.
