Lloyd A. Hyatt

Lloyd A. Hyatt, age 84, of Grassy Plain Street, Bethel, died Friday at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Alice Hager Hyatt.
Mr. Hyatt was born in Danbury, February 1, 1919, a son of the late Arthur E. and Alma Carey Hyatt. He was a lifelong Danbury area resident and was a graduate of Danbury High School. He served in the Army during World War II in the Third Armored Division under General George Patton and received a Purple Heart. He held many jobs during his life including machinist and sales person and most recently worked at Alice’s Flowers in Bethel. He was a former member and President of the Danbury Exchange Club and was a charter member of the Bethel Exchange Club where he was honored for 50 years of service at their 50th Anniversary celebration in 2000. He was a member of St. James Church in Danbury, the AARP and the Bethel Senior Center.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 stepsons: Edward and Robert Jiardina both of California, Val Lendaro of San Diego, CA; a stepdaughter: Judy Cuddihee of Ansonia and several step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his second wife, Fran Hyatt and a stepson, Donald Jiardina.
Memorials may be made to the Bethel Exchange Club.
The funeral service will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, Monday evening at 8:00. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel, in the spring.
The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, Monday evening from 6:00 until the time of the service at 8:00.
John Giambruno

John Giambruno, lifelong resident of Glen Cove, New York, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on January 30, 2004 at the age of 77.
John retired as Lieutenant from the Glen Cove Police Department in 1982 after 28 years of dedicated service. He also served in the Navy in World War II aboard the SS Topeka.
John was the devoted husband of Doris Andersen Giambruno; beloved father of Thomas Giambruno of Glen Cove, NY, Anthony Giambruno of Port St. Lucie, FL, John Giambruno of Bethel and Sandy Black of Sandy Hook; loving father-in-law of Lynn Giambruno, Jane Giambruno and Robert J. Black; adoring grandfather of Thomas Giambruno, Michael Giambruno, Anthony Giambruno, Kenneth Giambruno, John Giambruno, Jillian Giambruno, Amanda Black, Robert Black, Alexis Black and Avery Black. He is also survived by his brother, Pete (Olympio) Giambruno; a sister, Josephine Galante; a sister, Rose Carmitti and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters.

Alfred J. Farris

Alfred J. Farris, 86, of Danbury, husband of the late Helen (Mudarri) Farris, died on Friday January 30, 2004 at his home.
Fred was born in Danbury, September 22, 1917, son of the late Assad and Alice (Asmar) Farris. He graduated from Danbury schools and attended Holy Cross College.
Mr. Farris was a World War II U.S. Army veteran having served with the 10th Mountain Division, a retiree of the Heli-Coil Corporation and was a former real estate agent.
He was a member of the Lebanon-American Club and of St. Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church, both of Danbury .
Fred was the wonderful head of a very large and loving family. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mabel Morin of Miami, FL; cousins, Ray and Joan Asmar, Alice and Paul Jaber and George Massoud all of Danbury; nieces, Suzie Sayfie, Helen Stephan, Renee Kuci, Barbara Kotite, Beverly Elias and Diane Capillo of Miami, FL, Odette Golden, Patsy Grimes and Priscilla Matouk of New York, Barbara Schecterle of Georgia and Linda Ward of Michigan; nephews, Joseph Moseley, Robert Moseley and George Moseley of FL, Ronald Barsa, George Barsa and Richard Kotite of New York and by many grandnieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
The Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church, Danbury, with the Rev. Larry Jensen, officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Mary J. Berendt

Mary Mickolaychuk Berendt, age 77 of Stratford, beloved wife of the late William R. Berendt Sr., passed away on Friday January 30, 2004 at Bridgeport Hospital.
Mary was born on February 11, 1926 in Bridgeport and was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Czarni Mickolaychuk. She was employed at the Davis & Geck Company of Danbury for many years and was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
She is survived by her two sons, Daniel L. Berendt of Stratford, William R. Berendt Jr. and his wife Margaret of Bridgeport; one daughter, Patricia Schroeder of Trumbull; three sisters, Olga Schustek of Stratford, Mildred Berendt of Milford, Julie Petrovitch of Stratford; four grandchildren, Eric, Greg, Jessica, Josh and several nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by her son, Arnald Berendt and grandson Benjamin.
At Mary’s request all services will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2189 Barnum Avenue, Stratford, will be in care of arrangements.
Louis Sahley

Louis Sahley, age 80, of Monroe, beloved husband of Jetta (Flint) Sahley, died Friday, January 30, 2004 in St. Vincent Medical Center in Bridgeport.
Mr. Sahley was born February 16, 1923 in Danbury, a son of the late Joseph and Nazrie Sahley. He grew up in Danbury where he attended Danbury Schools and graduated from Abbott Technical School in Danbury. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. He was a resident of Monroe for 46 years where he was an avid gardener.
Besides his wife of Monroe, he is survived by three sons, Joseph Sahley and his wife Cindy of Trumbull, Louis Sahley and his wife Mary of Sandy Hook, Ahmed Sahley and his wife Jennifer of Oxford; two daughters, Jennifer Sandin and her husband William of Shelton and Johna Wills and her husband Gary of Monroe; a brother, Samuel Sahley of Danbury, three sisters; Mary Ann Denise, Julie Hammond and her husband Sam and Tina Wilgam all of Florida. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in the Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Route 111, Monroe. Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery
in Danbury.

George C. Browne

George C. Browne, 90, of the Village at Brookfield Commons, died on Thursday, January 29th at Danbury Hospital. He was born in New Rochelle, NY, on January 24, 1914, son of the late Patrick and Marie (Crane) Browne.
Mr. Browne worked for Burndy Electronics. He enjoyed traveling and attended St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield.
He is survived by a sister, Lorraine Emmerson of New Rochelle, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church on Tuesday, February 3rd, 10:00 a.m. Cremation and interment will take place at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Stephen A. Compton

Stephen A. Compton, 49, of Salisbury, N.Y. and formerly of Danbury, died Friday January 30, 2004 at his home.
Born June 4, 1954 in Suffern, N.Y., he was a son of the late Harrison and Dorothy Osborne Compton. Mr. Compton was employed as a laborer for Labor Ready Construction Company in Danbury.
He is survived by his sisters, Cheryll Compton of Goshen, N.Y. and Linda Loughran of Salisbury Mills, N.Y.; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation.
Cremation will be handled by Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, N.Y.

Dr. Mark Jacobson Ph.D.

Dr. Mark Jacobson Ph.D., age 36, husband of Denise L. (Greco) Jacobson of New Milford, died Thursday January 29, 2004.
He was born in Corning, NY Feb. 12, 1967, the son of Susan Jacobson of Wassaic, NY and John and Bethanne Jacobson of New Bern, NC.
Dr. Jacobson was a dedicated employee of the Nestle Corporation in New Milford.
He was a avid outdoorsman enjoying hiking, cross-country skiing, volleyball and kayaking. He was the 2003 U.S. Men’s National Kayak champion, a lifelong dream which he finally achieved.
Dr. Jacobson was a honors graduate of Wales and Johnson College and received his Ph.D. in Carbohydrate Chemistry from Perdue University.
In addition to his wife, mother, father, and stepmother, he is survived by his 16-month-old son, Aidan; a sister, Soren Sonson; two stepbrothers, Ben and Jamie Holiday.
A Memorial Prayer Service will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Church Sunday Feb. 1, 2004 at 3 p.m.
There are no calling hours. The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald M. Knowles

Donald M. Knowles, 82, of 2 Town Farm Road, New Milford, died Friday January 30, 2004 at New Milford Hospital, after being stricken at home. He was the husband of Geraldine Hulton Knowles.
Mr. Knowles was born in New Milford March 22, 1921, son of the late Charles M. and Helen MacArthur Knowles.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with United States Army Air Force.
He was owner-operator of the Knowles Electrical Company in New Milford for many years. Following retirement from his business, he worked for the New Milford Public School System, in the maintenance department and for the last 15 years was employed by the NewMil Bank as a courier.
Mr. Knowles was very involved in the New Milford Community. He was a member for over 49 years of the Water Witch Hose Company #2; a 50-year member of the New Milford Lions Club, serving twice as president. A member of the New Milford Ambulance Association, he was one of the first EMTs and drivers with that association. He was a member over 50 years with the Good Shepherd Lodge #65; a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1672; and a Boy Scout Leader Troop #58. He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by 2 daughters, Deborah K. Hancock and her husband Craig of East Hartford and Janet K. Erhart and her husband Lawrence of Gales Ferry; a sister, Elizabeth K. Porter of New Milford; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey Erhart, Daniel Erhart, Sarah Martin, Katherine Hancock and Laura Erhart; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Donald Hulton Knowles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford. A private burial will take place in the Spring at St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.
Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Cheryl A. Scattolini, 60, of Danbury, wife of Nicholas J. Scattolini Sr., died at the Danbury Hospital on Friday January 30, 2004, following a brief illness.
She was born in Danbury, June 28, 1943, daughter of the late Emily (Petruno) Cannon. Cheryl was a graduate of Danbury High School, class of 1961 and had attended Western Connecticut State University. She had been a lifetime area resident and had worked as an office administrator for General DataComm for 23 years and at the present time worked for Sealed Air Corporation of Danbury. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.
In addition to her husband, Cheryl is survived by a daughter, Melissa Kisker and her husband, Robert of Houston, Texas : a son, Nicholas J. “JR” Scattolini Jr. and his wife, Gayle of Danbury; 3 grandchildren, Cody Kisker and Jordyn Kisker and Heather Herrmann and several cousins, including Debbie Engler and her husband, George.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at St. Joseph’s Church, Danbury, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Olga Suzanne Maroney

Olga Suzanne Maroney, beloved mother of Kathleen Azzariti, passed into God's hands Tuesday March 30, 2004, in Venice, Florida, at the age of 82.
Mrs. Maroney was the devoted wife of the late William Maroney, and lived in Elmsford, N.Y. before retiring to Rotonda West, Fla. in 1983.
She was a loving mother and creative homemaker, blessed with many gifts including singing, sewing, drawing and drafting. She volunteered her talents to the Elmsford PTO, Historical Society, Fire Department Auxiliary, Good Counsel Academy Association and most recently St. Francis of Assisi Guild in Florida.
Her wisdom, wit and charm will be remembered by those who knew her and especially by her daughter, Kathleen, her husband John Azzariti of Danbury; their daughters, Kimberly and husband Jon Baumstark; and Kara and fianci John Gally.
She will be missed by her two sons, Thomas, and his wife Dianne of Asheville, N.C., and John and his wife Barbara, formerly of Danbury, now of Seven Lakes, N.C.; her grandsons, Dennis and wife Holly of Darien, and Timothy of Danbury; her granddaughters and their husbands: Bonnie and Scott Szturma of Beacon Falls and Erin and Jay Fraser and Megan and Peter Ward of Bronxville, N.Y.; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on Sunday 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mc Elroy Funeral Home, 72 East Main Street, Elmsford, New York.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Monday 10 a.m. at the Church Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Elmsford with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery
in White Plains, New York.

Gerome James Leone

Gerome James Leone, 80, of New Milford, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Danbury Hospital, Danbury.
Gerome is survived by his wife, Carolyn Eleanor Leone, of New Milford; his children, Eugene J.M. Leone, of Chicago, IL, Joan Leone, of Mooresville, N.C.; Gerome James Leone Jr., of New York, NY, Christopher Gerome Leone, of Newtown; grandchildren, Julianna, Dominique and Michael.
Gerome was born in New York, New York, on April 10, 1923, son of the late Joseph and Antoinette Leone, and grandson of Luisa Leone, founder of Mother Leone's Restaurant, a New York City landmark for decades. Mr. Leone graduated from Xavier High School; Loyola University, Los Angeles; and Fordham Law School. Mr. Leone served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Following an honorable discharge in 1945, Gerome returned to New York and completed Fordham Law School. Upon graduation Mr. Leone became an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York and became active in politics. In the 1950s Gerome entered into a lengthy career of private practice and represented clients that included tile International Longshoreman Association.
In 1975, Gerome married Carolyn Eleanor Gilman and began a new career at New York University Law School. In 1976, Gerome completed a master's degree in library science and his thesis on Malpractice for Law Librarians is still widely used in legal courses. During the 1980s Gerome began to write for the National Law Journal and created the weekly Worth Reading column. Over its 12-year span, the column grew into a best-read feature and a must for all legal journals.
After retirement to Connecticut from NYU 1993, Gerome entered a final phase of his professional life that saw him create a business and introduced the process of fresh pasta to area supermarkets. Meanwhile he stayed active in politics and education in both New York and Connecticut. His free time was enjoyed reading, cooking, studying horses, and traveling abroad with his wife.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford. A wake is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, 2004, from 5-7; Sunday, April 4, 2004, from 3-5. Funeral Mass to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2004, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, New Milford.

Dr. Henry Minot

Dr. Henry Davis Minot Jr., 84 of Ridgefield, who retired from a distinguished medical career as a thoracic surgeon and later assistant medical examiner, died at his residence on Wednesday morning, March 31, 2004.
He was the husband of Joan (Lochner) Minot.
Dr. Minot was born in Jamaica Plain, Mass., August 10, 1919, a son of Henry D. and Harriet (Northrop) Minot.
He attended Massachusetts schools, graduated from Harvard College in 1940, and served as a naval aviator in carrier-based dive-bombing squadrons during World War II.
He obtained his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1950.
A resident of Ridgefield since 1960 coming from Vermont, he opened a medical practice in Darien, beginning a long and distinguished career as a thoracic surgeon at Norwalk Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital and Stamford Hospital, retiring in 1986.
He maintained his position as an assistant medical examiner until 2003.
Dr. Minot enjoyed baking bread and cooking to riding the country roads on his antique BMW motorcycle.
In addition to his wife, three daughters, Abby More of San Rafael, Calif., Sarah Gold of Los Angeles and Ione Minot of Essex Junction, Vt.; a son, Harry Minot of Fairfield; his stepchildren, S. Reid Minot of Austin, Texas , H. Paul Jacobson of Wilton, Kathryn Jacobson of California and Matthew Jacobson of Versailles, Ky.; three grandchildren, Rebecca Frost, Henry D. Minot V and Asia Gold; and step-grandchildren, John Minot and Samuel Minot, survive Dr. Minot.
Funeral services will take place on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at the Kane Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until the service.
