Chris Curas

February 10, 2003

Chris Curas, 86, of Stamford, former owner of Curas Fuel in Stamford, died Sunday, Feb. 9, at Wilton Meadows Health Care Center in Wilton.

He died of natural causes, according to his family.

Born Oct. 20, 1916, in Kastoria, Greece, he was the son of the late James and Helen Salenikas Curas.

Mr. Curas was a member of the Order of Ahepa and was active in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels in Stamford.

For 50 years, he owned and operated Curas Fuel, a Stamford business. He lived in Stamford for 70 years.

He is survived by a son, James Curas of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a daughter, Elaine Petrone of Darien; a sister, Angela Curas of New Haven; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Curas; and a daughter, Paula Curas Didelot.

There will be no calling hours.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford.

Burial will follow at Long Ridge Union Cemetery in Stamford. Following the burial will be a luncheon at the church.

Memorial donations may me sent to the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford, CT 06905.

Arrangements are being handled by the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 S. Pine Creek Road, Fairfield.

Naureen Graham

February 10, 2003

Naureen Doherty Graham, 80, a longtime Greenwich resident, died Saturday, Feb. 8, at Stamford Hospital.

She died of natural causes, her family said.

Born April 4, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Gleason Doherty.

During World War II, Mrs. Graham served in the Canadian Armed Forces and was stationed in Europe.

Following the war, she moved to New York City in 1946, and married Robert Graham. They moved to Greenwich in the early 1950s.

For more than 30 years, Mrs. Graham was an accomplished real estate broker in town, most recently retired from David Ogilvy and Associates. She was also a member of the Millbrook Country Club and St. Mary Church.

Mrs. Graham is survived by three sons, Timothy Graham of Greenwich; Patrick Graham of Boca Raton, Fla., and Michael Graham of Virginia Beach, Va.; and two daughters, Joanne Graham of New York City and Tracy Baird of Darien. She is also survived by a sister, Iris Butler of Buckingham, Quebec; and nine grandchildren.

She was predeceased by Robert Graham, her husband of 38 years, in 1984.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home at 31 Arch St., Greenwich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Church, 178 Greenwich Ave.

Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich.

Sabatino E. Belmont, 85;

February 9, 2003

was town parks supervisor

Sabatino E. Belmont, 85, a Cos Cob resident, died Thursday, Feb. 6, at his home.

He died of cancer, according to his family.

Mr. Belmont was a retired parks supervisor for the Town of Greenwich. He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Born Nov. 3, 1917, in Greenwich, he was a son of the late Ernesto and Anna Volpe Belmont.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Yolanda Bascetta Belmont of Cos Cob; three sons, Samuel S. Belmont of Longmeadow, Mass., James Belmont of Newtown and Thomas A. Belmont of Norwalk; two daughters, Veronica Frangione and Caroline M. Stowell, both of Trumbull; three brothers, James Belmont, Orlando Belmont and Anthony Belmont, all of Greenwich; two sisters, Lena Obuchowski of Stamford and Carmela Missuerello of Riverside; and 11 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Josephine Carbino, Mary Capalbo and Jennie Casuto; and four brothers, Albert Belmont, Renaldo Belmont, Richard Belmont and Rudolph Belmont.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

Mona B. Cole, 89,

Greenwich native

Mona Bassett Cole, 89, of Stamford, died Saturday, Feb. 8, at Stamford Hospital.

She died of a heart attack, according to her family.

Born March 27, 1913, in Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret Kenny Bassett. She was a resident of Stamford the past 60 years.

Mrs. Cole was a homemaker. She was an active member and communicant of United Methodist Church of Springdale. She was a former volunteer at the Stamford Hospital Thrift Shop.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Thomas H. Cole of Stamford; a daughter, Susan DeCarlo of New Canaan; a son, Thomas H. Cole Jr. of Guilford; two sisters, Jean Hodges of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Margaret Dundas of Bella Vista, Ark.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brother, William Bassett Jr.

Services and burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at a time and date to be announced.

The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, is handling the arrangements.

Rose B. DeLuca, 91,

hotel housekeeper

Rose B. DeLuca, 91, a lifelong Greenwich resident and a retired housekeeper, died Friday, Feb. 7, at The Nathaniel Witherell nursing home.

She died of natural causes, her family said.

Mrs. DeLuca worked as a housekeeper at Howard Johnson Hotel in Riverside.

Born June 20, 1911, in Greenwich, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Josephine Infante Bria.

She enjoyed cooking and was active with the Greenwich Senior/Arts Center.

She is survived by a daughter, Josephine "JoJo" DeLuca of Old Greenwich; a sister, Lee Chiappetta of Greenwich; two brothers, Lawrence Bria of Vero Beach, Fla., and George Bria of San Francisco; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, William DeLuca; and four brothers, Tom Bria, Pat Bria, Albert Bria and Augie Bria.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church on Stanwich Road.

Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
