Daniel F. Brown

Daniel Francis Michael "Danny" Brown, 39, of Glenwood, Fla., the son of a former town resident, died Friday, Oct. 25, at Florida Hospital of Deland in Deland, Fla.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born May 21, 1963, in Massapequa Park, N.Y., he was a son of Patricia Brown of North Palm Beach, Fla., a former Greenwich resident, and the late Edward J. Brown.
Mr. Brown lived in Michigan and Ohio before moving to Glenwood 20 years ago.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother, Joseph E. Brown of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Brown Blakeman and Marilyn Brown, both of North Palm Beach; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Martin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and an aunt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 10970 State Road A1A, North Palm Beach. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach, Fla.
William N. Howard Funeral Home, North Palm Beach, is handling the arrangements.
Matthew F. Della Corte

Matthew Frederick Della Corte, 82, a longtime Greenwich resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, at home.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born July 20, 1920, in Stamford, he was a son of the late Gaetano and Anna Di Tore Della Corte.
Mr. Della Corte was an upholsterer at the Greenwich Upholstery Shop for 20 years. He was a parishioner and communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Greenwich.
Mr. Della Corte served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Victory Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10112 in Greenwich and of AARP.
He is survived by a daughter, Beverly Della Corte of Norwalk; a twin brother, John Della Corte of Norwalk; two sisters, Theresa "Tess" Riccardi and Grace Palermo, both of Stamford; his companion, Anne Barone of Greenwich; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Helen Capalbo Della Corte, in 1991.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave. Monsignor William Genuario will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery
in Greenwich.

Barbara B. Liptak

Barbara Burke Liptak, 63, of Port Chester, N.Y., died Sunday, Oct. 27, at home.
The cause of death was cancer, according to her family.
Mrs. Liptak created the Maher Avenue Christmas Pageant, which has been produced annually for 50 years.
Born April 13, 1939, in Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Paul, a probate judge, and Elizabeth Loy Burke. She attended Greenwich Public Schools.
She earned her bachelor's degree in English from Trinity College in Washington , and worked for the United Nations and the Ford Foundation.
Later, she taught English as a Second Language in the Greenwich Public Schools.
She is survived by a son, Aron Peter Liptak of Bloomington, Ind.; a daughter, Caitlin Burke Liptak of New York City; two sisters, Elizabeth B. Humphreys and Marion L. Burke, both of Hamilton, N.Y.; a brother, Lawrence Paul Burke Jr. of Mamaroneck, N.Y.; 11 nieces and nephews; and four grand-nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, 178 Greenwich Ave.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

William Styslinger

William Casper Styslinger, 81, of Pearl River, N.Y., the father of a Greenwich resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
He died of complications following heart surgery, according to his daughter, Mary Siegel of Stamford.
Born May 20, 1921, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late William and Grace Styslinger. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Styslinger worked as a mathematician for IBM from 1954 to 1988, specializing in forecasting.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator, retiring as a major in the reserves. He was a champion bowler and poker player, and a coach in computer and word processing at SeniorNet. He was a member of St. Aedan's Parish in Pearl River.
Mr. Styslinger married his wife, Cecelia Christy, on June 7, 1944, at St. Philomena's Church in Pittsburgh. They were married for 58 years and lived in Pearl River for 41 years. Mrs. Styslinger predeceased him in 2001.
In addition to his daughter in Stamford, he is survived by five other daughters, Cecelia Sheridan of Seline, Mich., Grace VanLonkhuysen and Margaret Styslinger, both of Memphis, Tenn., Helen Bennis of Greenwich and Joanne Styslinger of Pearl River; two sons, Bill Styslinger of Fairfield and Joe Styslinger of Worcester, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Calling hours are from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Aedan's Church.
Italo Cosenza, 88;

Italo James "Jimmy" Cosenza, 88, a barber for more than 60 years, died Monday, Dec. 23, at Greenwich Hospital.
He died of heart failure, according to his family.
Born Aug. 1, 1914, in Bagnara, Italy, he was a son of the late Frank and Domenica Versace Consenza.
Mr. Cosenza was the owner of Jimmy's Hairstyling in Byram. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart military decoration.
He enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with his family.
Mr. Cosenza is survived by his son, Frank Cosenza of Portland; a daughter, Patricia Buono of Greenwich; a brother, Robert Cosenza of Palm Springs, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine Anna Cosenza; a brother, Peter Cosenza; and two sisters, Rose DiMarino and Olga Leucaslito.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Castiglione Funeral Home Inc., 134 Hamilton Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mary Brian, 96,

silent movie actress
Mary Brian, 96, a romantic leading lady whose memorable career began in the era of silent and early sound films, died of natural causes Monday, Dec. 30, at a retirement home in Del Mar, Calif.
Mrs. Brian, a longtime resident of Studio City, Calif., appeared in more than 70 films between 1924 and 1947. She co-starred with leading men of the era including Gary Cooper, Cary Grant and James Cagney, and at different times during the 1930s was engaged to Grant and to Dick Powell.
She played Wendy in the first screen version - a silent - of "Peter Pan," released by Paramount in 1924. She also portrayed Molly Wood opposite Cooper in "The Virginian," the first major western film with sound, produced in 1929.
In Hollywood, the petite actress with dark brown curls ringing her face was known as "that nice, sweet Mary Brian," in part because of her solid professionalism.
"As a leading lady, she was reliable, competent - someone you knew would never give you any trouble on the set," said Anthony Slide, a film historian and longtime friend, who called her one of the greatest ingenues of the silent and early sound era. "She was very natural in life and on screen."
