Susan D. W. Truitt

October 4, 2002

Susan Davis Wilson Truitt, an interior decorator and caterer who lived in Stamford since 1961, died Monday, Sept. 30 at Stamford Hospital. She was 80.

She died of breast cancer, according to her family.

Born March 22, 1922, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Levi Davis Sr. and Serphronia Davis.

Mrs. Truitt was a member of Union Baptist Church in Stamford where she participated in the Lycium group, the Women's Auxiliary, the Willing Workers and the Alabama Group.

She worked as an interior decorator and caterer in Greenwich for many years.

She was secretary, chairman of finances and served on the board of directors of the Yerwood Center in Stamford. She also was a member and the president of the Yerwood Women's Club.

Mrs. Truitt is survived by her husband, Robert Truitt Sr. of Stamford; a son, John L. Wilson of Norwalk; a daughter, Bettye Smith of Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Ben Davis and John Davis, both of Northport, Ala.; four grandsons; two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8 and at Downer Funeral Home Inc., 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford.

Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Ave., Stamford. A memorial service will follow with the Rev. Robert W. Perry officiating.

Burial will take place in Tuscaloosa at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT 06905; or to The Stamford Hospital, Hospice Unit, 30 Shelburne Road, Stamford, CT 06902; or to the Yerwood Women's Club, c/o Yerwood Center, 90 Fairfield Ave., Stamford, CT 06902.

George R. Bott III, 83,

George Robert Bott III, 83, of Stamford, a contractor and real estate broker, died Sunday, Sept. 29, at Stamford Hospital.

He died of natural causes, according to his family.

Born Feb. 13, 1919, in New York City, he was a son of the late George Robert and Florence Harris Bott.

Mr. Bott attended Stark Elementary School in Stamford. He was a graduate of Stamford High School and the five-year civil engineering program at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Bott owned and operated Bott Realty Management Corp. in Stamford. Before that, he owned and operated Nob Hill Construction Co., formerly in Stamford. He built scores of homes in Stamford, Greenwich and Darien.

He was a lifelong member and former trustee and deacon of the First Congregational Church in Stamford.

He was a longtime member and officer of the Kiwanis Club of Glenbrook in Stamford. He belonged to the U.S. Power Squadron in Stamford and the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Bott was a former Boy Scout. He also enjoyed sailing with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Octeau Bott of Stamford; his former wife, Aileen Swansen Bott of Bedford, N.H..; three sons, George Robert Bott IV of Fairfax, Va., Clifford H. Bott of Dallas and Roger A. Bott of Stamford; a daughter, Caron D. Bott Wood of Darien; two stepdaughters, Carol Shaw and Wendy Keeler, both of Amherst, N.H.; eight grandchildren; and dozens of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia Spina Bott; a brother, Alan Richard Bott; and a grandson.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., tomorrow at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church on Walton Place in Stamford.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Matthew Yee, 8,

North Street student

Matthew Yee, 8, of Greenwich, a North Street School student, died Monday, Sept. 30, at Greenwich Hospital.

He died of injuries sustained in a car accident.

Born May 5, 1994, in Norwalk, Matthew was the son of Arthur and Judy Chin Yee of Greenwich.

He was a member of the YWCA of Greenwich's Dolphins swim team and the Greenwich Council of the Boy Scouts of America's Cub Scouts Pack 9, Den 6. He also attended the Chinese Language School of Connecticut at the International School at Dundee.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Sarah Yee of Greenwich; maternal grandparents, Jong Kai and Pui Tong Chin of Philadelphia; paternal grandparents, Fon Wah and Chui Oy Yee of Greenwich; paternal great-grandparents; a maternal great-grandmother; five uncles; five aunts; and numerous cousins.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 1 W. Putnam Ave. A funeral will follow at 5 p.m. The Rev. Matthew Colwell will officiate.

Family and close friends may attend the burial on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to North Street School PTA, 381 North St., Greenwich, CT 06830.

William E. Benz Sr., 78,

William E. Benz Sr., 78, of Old Greenwich, a longtime town resident who worked for local gas companies, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Greenwich Woods Health Care Center.

He died of natural causes, according to his son, William E. Benz Jr. of Norwalk.

Born Dec. 20, 1923, in Syracuse, N.Y., he was a son of the late Joseph and Florence Benz.

Mr. Benz served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church in Stamford. He worked as a service man for the Greenwich Gas Company and the Connecticut Natural Gas Company in Greenwich.

Surviving, in addition to his son in Norwalk, is another son, Steven T. Benz of Seymour.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy A. Boyle Benz, in 1986, and by two brothers, Raymond Benz and Joseph Benz.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.

A service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06450.

Jeanne C. Maloney, 80,

longtime Girl Scout leader

Jeanne C. Maloney, 80, of Delray Beach, Fla., and Rye, N.Y., died Thursday, Oct. 3, at Greenwich Hospital.

The cause of death was complications from Parkinson's disease, her family said.

Born Oct. 2, 1922, in New York City, Mrs. Maloney was a daughter of the late James T. and Ida R. Cawley.

She attended the Ursuline School in New Rochelle, N.Y., and graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y.

As a Girl Scouts leader for more than 20 years in Bronxville, N.Y., Mrs. Maloney was awarded the Presidential Medal of Service. She was an avid athlete who particularly enjoyed tennis and golf, as well as the athletic endeavors of her children, her family said.

Mrs. Maloney was a member of the Colony Beach Club in Delray Beach, and the Westchester Country Club in Rye. She also was a real estate sales associate with Ley Management in Bronxville.

She is survived by eight children: Edward F. Maloney Jr. of Greenwich, Barbara J. Maloney of Washington , D.C., Jimmy Maloney of Kent, England, Peter J. Maloney of Westport, Maureen D. Bowen of Greeley, Colo., Jeffrey D. Maloney of Hartsdale, N.Y., Mari Brita Maloney of New York City and Tara A. Parsley of Granville, Ohio.

Mrs. Maloney also is survived by nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ida McLean, of Jupiter, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward F. Maloney; and a grandson, Edward F. "Teddy" Maloney III, who died in the attack on the World Trade Center.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home in Bronxville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Church in Bronxville.
