BANKS
Elizabeth (Betty) Fielden Banks, age 83, a former longtime resident of the Redding/Georgetown area, died on Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va. She had made her home in Culpeper, Va., for the past few years following the death of her husband, Floyd L. Banks, in 1994. They had been married for 50 years. Mrs. Banks was born in Mooseheart, Ill., on November 20, 1918, a daughter of the late William and Claudia Seibert Fielden. She was raised in Walden, N.Y., and graduated from Walden High School and then worked for the Walden Telephone Co. Later, during World War II, Mrs. Banks contributed to the war effort as an employee of Chance Vought in Stratford, working on the assembly line in the manufacture of the Corsair fighter plane. She also worked for the Gilbert & Bennett Manufacturing Co., formerly of Georgetown, and worked at Fairfield Hills State Hospital in Newtown, retiring after 12 years of service. Survivors include her son, Frederick L. Banks and his wife, Jeanette, of Culpeper; one sister, Marjorie Mueller and her husband, Manfred, of Stratford; one niece, Victoria Johnson; and one grandniece, Gillian Kay. Mrs. Banks was predeceased by her two brothers, William and Henry Fielden. Services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the graveside in Umpawaug Cemetery, Redding. The Rev. Kenneth E. White will officiate. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown.
GRANTHAM
Juanita Grantham, age 73, of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at Bridgeport Hospital. Complete arrangements to be announced by the George J. Peterson Funeral Home, 1041 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport.
BRADLEY
Edward G. Bradley, a longtime resident of Easton, died at his home on Wednesday, August 7, 2002. He was born in Washington , D.C., on December 1, 1923, and is survived by his wife, Jean Radel Bradley; and four sons and four grandchildren, Jonathan G. Bradley of Houston, Andrew G. Bradley and Megan and Dana Bradley of South Norwalk, Stephen G. Bradley and Alexander Fitzsimmons Bradley of Melrose, Mass., and Matthew R. Bradley and Alexandra Bradley of Bethel. Dr. Bradley was a graduate of Harvard College and Cornell University Medical School and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He retired in 1988 after a distinguished career in radiology at St. Vincent`s Hospital in New York City, and as a member of Bridgeport Radiology Associates. Calling hours will be on Saturday, August 10, 2002, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Friends and relatives will be invited to join the family in remembering Dr. Bradley at a gathering at Harbor View in South Norwalk, at a later date.
RAMIREZ
Hector M. Ramirez Jr., age 44, of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 8, 2002, at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Hector was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, to Hector M. Ramirez Sr. and Tomasita Colon, before becoming a Bridgeport resident many years ago. Besides his parents, he leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Carlos M. Ramirez of Trumbull; two sisters, Graciela Robinson and Noemi Rodriguez, both of Bridgeport; and a host of other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2002, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, followed by interment in Lakeview Cemetery. BAKONYI
Frank J. Bakonyi Jr., age 71, of Shelton, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at the Bishop Wicke Health Care Center, Shelton, after a short illness. He was born in Bridgeport, January 17, 1931, son of the late Frank J. and Anna Pavtista Bakonyi Sr. He was the devoted husband of the late Charlotte Kreiger Bakonyi. Frank was retired from the Kasper Group, where he had been employed for many years, and was an Army veteran of World War II. Frank enjoyed belonging to a "birthday group," whereby his good friends, Marilyn Plainer, Otto Biso, Mary Ann and Gus Firgau, Elaine Dwyer and Larry Maraia would celebrate each others birthdays. Frank also enjoyed meeting his friends of many years for breakfast at the Plaza Diner. He is survived by his nephews, Dave Kreiger and his wife, Cathy, of New Fairfield, Robert Kreiger of Vista, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Schmucke of Florida. Frank will also be missed by his neighbors of many years, Barbara and Carmine Ciardullo. His funeral arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family. The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
CREDDO
Eugene Creddo, age 74, of Bridgeport, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2002. A lifelong city resident, he was the son of the late Louis and Carmella Creddo, and the widower of Frances Olsen Creddo. Mr. Creddo was a retired host for the former Ocean Sea Grill and also worked for the City of Bridgeport. He enjoyed playing cards and watching football, but family was his first priority; he was generous and always available for everyone`s needs. Survivors include a son, Louis Creddo and his wife, Gina, of Bridgeport; a daughter, Deborah Lloyd and her husband, Mark, of Naugatuck; three cherished grandchildren, Louis Creddo, Maria Creddo and Emily Lloyd; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Magdon and Rose Licursi. Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 9, 2002, (TODAY), at 10:15 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret`s Shrine Chapel, Bridgeport, for a Mass of Christian Burial. ALDERSON
William H. Alderson, age 79, of Fairfield, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at Southport Manor. Mr. Alderson was born in Delaware, and was an area resident for most of his life. He was a retired funeral director for the former Wilmont, West & Goulding Funeral Home, and was a former vice president of Bridgeport Engineering. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a former member of the NFDA, the CFDA, the Algonquin Club and the Brooklawn Country Club. He was a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Fairfield. Survivors include his wife, Jean Griswold Alderson of Fairfield; one daughter, Cynthia G. Alderson of Fairfield; one sister, Edith Stevens of Ventura, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport. Burial will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. DEL VECCHIO
Frank Albert Del Vecchio, age 87, a past Connecticut Realtor of the Year, and in retirement, the social director of the Tashua Knoll`s Senior Men`s group, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at Maefair Health Care Center in Trumbull. Born in Bridgeport in 1914, he was the Fairfield county pole-vaulting champion for Warren Harding High School, from which he graduated in 1932. He attended New York University before entering business with his father and brothers. He married his beloved wife, Filomena Antignani, on February 22, 1941, and they settled in Stratford. During the war years, he supervised a small arms manufacturing line at General Electric. After World War II, Mr. Del Vecchio became treasurer of Columbus Industrial Bank and co-owner of Dell`s Appliances. In 1957, he founded the Frank A. Del Vecchio Real Estate and Insurance Agency of Stratford. In 1966, he was named the Greater Bridgeport Board of Realtors "Realtor of the Year" for his outstanding contributions to the board and his unfailing dedication to the community. This was followed by the Connecticut state honor for his instigation of a statewide multiple listing service. He was long-active in civic, educational, church and fraternal endeavors including: president of the Stratford Rotary Club; the Connecticut Association of Real Estate Boards; the Connecticut Committee on Minority Housing; enrollment chairman for the YMCA; committeeman of the United Way Fund; director of Citizens Scholarship Foundation of America; member of the St. James Council of the Knights of Columbus; president of Sterling House Council; co-chairman of the Stratford Council of the Italian Community Center; president of the Italian Graduate Scholarship Committee of the University of Bridgeport; member of the Connecticut Association of Insurance Agents, the Stratford Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Real Estate Boards. In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and bowling, and hearing stories about the achievements of his grandchildren. He is survived by four children, Mary-Jo Good of Cambridge, Mass., Frank Del Vecchio Jr. of Trumbull, Elena Rusnak of Watertown, and John Del Vecchio of Newtown; six grandchildren, Chandra, Joseph, Nathan, Catherine, Adam and Cara; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Filomena; four brothers, Michael, Albert, Alfred and Eugene; and two sisters, Adeline and Angelina. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2002, at 8 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 9 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Bridgeport, for a Mass of Christian Burial. COURTNEY
Thomas L. Courtney Jr., age 80, of Bridgeport, died on Monday, August 5, 2002, at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Tallahassee, Fla., Thomas had been a resident of Bridgeport off and on for about 30 years. He was a retired truck driver with Ford Motor Co., served his country during World War II in the Army and was honorably discharged. Survivors include two sons, Thomas G. Sanders of Charlotte, N.C., and Mark Courtney of Detroit; a stepdaughter, Pamela Kendricks of Bridgeport; a sister, Elizabeth Holbrook of Bridgeport; four grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Morton`s Mortuary Inc., 25 Margaret E. Morton Lane, Bridgeport, with the Rev. Matthew McDonald, associate minister of Mt. Aery Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Wesley Freeman Eastman, entered into eternal rest the morning of Wednesday, November 27, 2002. He was the husband of Alice Gregory Eastman of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley F. Eastman are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in Stuhr`s Mt. He was supervisor for Bridgeport Brass Company, and a member of Musician`s Union since he was 15 years old, and a tenor saxophonist with Paul King and Bill Tennant Orchestras. Survivors include his wife Alice; five children, Bonnie Lampart of Spring Hill, Fla., Wesley B. Eastman of Isle of Palm, S.C., Dorothy Isaacs of Silver Springs, Md., Jayne Eastman (Gangi) of Mt. HECKLER
Joseph J. Heckler, age 85, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Wanda Smith Heckler, died on Wednesday, November 27, 2002. Mr. Heckler was born in Bridgeport, on January 23, 1917, to the late Julius Heckler and Helen Liskowsky Heckler Anthony, and was also the stepson of the late William Anthony Sr. Mr. Heckler was retired from the U.S. Government, where he was employed as a technical publication writer/editor for 35 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include two brothers, William Heckler and his wife, Irene, of Milford, and William Anthony Jr. of Rhode Island; a sister, Kathryn Allen of Stratford; a sister-in-law, Patricia Anthony of California; his children, Gary Nunley, Orrin Nunley and his wife, Sally, and Ray Nunley and his wife, Barbara, all of Virginia; a son-in-law, Richard Alexander of Maryland; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Heckler was predeceased by a brother, Bernard Anthony; and a daughter, Ann Alexander. Funeral services will be private. The Gregory F. Ann Holinko Loss, age 93, a retired hairdresser of Bridgeport, died on Monday, November 25, 2002, at Gardner Heights Health Center, Shelton. Mrs. Loss was born in Poland, and was an area resident for most of her life. She was the widow of William Loss. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Brian Holinko of Trumbull. FAUSTINE
John J. Faustine, very much loved and cherished father of Barbara Faustine, widower of Bertha Magdon Faustine, entered into eternal rest at the age of 81, on Tuesday, November 26, 2002. Born in Ripi, Province of Frosinone, Italy, John was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport and Trumbull. John served proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was also a founder and past president of Ann`s Newfield Bakery. He was an active member of the Bridgeport Old Timers Athletic Association, a life member of Grosso-Seavey American Legion 167, the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Connecticut Bakers Association. John, a kind and gentle man, was much loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving daughter, Barbara Faustine, also of Trumbull; two brothers, Natalino (Nicholas) Faustine and his wife, Rose, of the Lordship section of Stratford, and Peter Faustine and his wife, Marie, of Oronoque Village, Stratford; a sister, Mary Banas and her husband, George, of the Nichols section of Trumbull; and several nieces and nephews. John P. Bartovic, age 89, husband of the late Rita Gadios Bartovic, died on Thursday, November 28, 2002, at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Born in Bridgeport, he was a lifelong city resident. Mr. Bartovic was employed by the Bridgeport Brass Co. for 27 years prior to his retirement. He is survived by a son, Ronald T. Bartovic of Bridgeport; a daughter, Cynthia of California; a brother, Joseph Bartovic of Shelton; a sister, Wilma Bonaventura of Bridgeport; four grandchildren: Theresa L. and Brian T. Bartovic, David John and James; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Helen Piccirillo and Mary Sherback.
