CASCELLA
Nicholas Cascella, age 61, of Bridgeport, died on Thursday, June 27, 2002, at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Born in Bridgeport, he was a graduate of Fairfield College Preparatory School, class of 1958, and attended Fairfield University. He had served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Nicholas worked as a real estate broker and developer and was a member of the Bridgeport Republican Party and the Greater Bridgeport Board of Realtors. He is survived by four children, Toni Cascella Habetz and her husband, Stephen, of Fairfield, Todd Cascella and his wife, Mona, of Trumbull, Jacqueline Cascella Abelli and her husband, Richard, of Cheshire, and Tracey Cascella Turcotte and her husband, Donald, also of Cheshire; 11 grandchildren: Stephen, Lindsay and Justin Habetz, Tyler and Brooke Cascella, Taylor and Mackenzie Abelli, and Dianne, Stephanie, Nicole and Natalie Turcotte; his beloved companion, Carol Cunliffe, of Stratford; a brother, Richard Cascella of Norwalk; a sister, Marlene Wahlberg and her husband, Jay, of Easton; as well as nieces and nephews, Richard Cascella Jr., Scott Cascella, Stacey Georgiou, Jay Walhberg Jr., Joshua Wahlberg and Nicolene Wahlberg. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at noon in the Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center, with Father William Sangiovanni officiating. Burial will be held privately at a later date. Friends are invited to greet his family on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. PAWLOWSKI
Agnes Nelson Pawlowski, age 89, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of 71 years to the late Henry W. Pawlowski, died on Friday, June 28, 2002, at Cambridge Manor, Fairfield. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth Huresky Nelson. A devoted homemaker, she was happiest when she was cooking for the holidays when all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren would eat grandma`s good cooking. They said, "she was a good cooker." Agnes loved to crochet and knit, making sweaters for the little ones and crocheting afghans for each grandchild. Gardening was another hobby. She grew roses and always had a vegetable garden from which she would can produce that she would use in the winter. She and her husband traveled to Poland, took bus trips with the seniors and most of all, she took many cruises, which were her favorite. She had formerly worked at ALCOA until their closing and retired from Caposella, Cohen, Engelson & Coleman, Certified Public Accountants. She will be sorely missed by all of her three children; 13 great-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren for her loving and gentle ways. She is survived by her two daughters, Agnes Hine of Milford, and Barbara Higgs and her husband, Henry, of Bridgeport; a son, Henry W. Pawlowski II of Houston; a sister, Elizabeth Holmgren of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. James Smyka officiating. Interment in Park Cemetery, Bridgeport. Calling hours on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Commerce Hill-Radozycki Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport (on the Trumbull line).

BRIGHTFUL
Quiency L. Brightful, age 83, a retired cosmetologist and wife of the departed, beloved, Charles E. Brightful, passed into glory on Thursday, June 27, 2002, in Bridgeport. She was born in Aiken County, S.C., and was the last of 18 predeceased siblings conceived by Willie and Doshia Ware, and lived in Bronx, N.Y., where she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Later she moved to Bridgeport, where she became a member of Messiah Baptist Church and its Hostess Club. Survivors include the following: her daughter, Marlene, the wife of Peter J. George; a son, Charles E. Brightful Jr. of Rochester, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Deena and Peter II of Bridgeport, and Jason, Michael and Bethany of Rochester. Also to mourn her loss she leaves five great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Tyrone, Nathan, Johnathan and Noah; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 1, 2002, at Messiah Baptist Church, 210 Congress Street, Bridgeport, at 11 a.m. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Avenue, Bridgeport. Arrangements entrusted to the George J. Peterson Funeral Home, 1041 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport.

KAFARA
William J. Kafara, age 87, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at University Hospital in Tamarac, Fla. Mr. Kafara was born in Olyphant, Pa., and was a Trumbull resident for most of his adult life, before moving to Florida in 1987. He was a retired machinist for Rilling Dermetics Co. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline Karmonosky Kafara. Survivors include his son, Terrence W. Kafara of Pompano Beach, Fla.; his daughter, Gail Kafara of Golden, Colo.; his brother, Chester Kafara of Shelton; his sister, Helen Bovienzo of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport; and five grandchildren. Family services will take place on Tuesday at St. Joseph`s National Catholic Church in Stratford, with the Rev. Anthony Kopka officiating. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery. Arrangements by the Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road.

VELEZ
Edelmira Velez, age 88, of Bridgeport, entered into peaceful rest on Friday, June 28, 2002, at Bridgeport Healthcare Center. Edelmira was born in Puerto Rico before becoming a Bridgeport resident many years ago. She leaves to cherish her memory nine sons, Ruben, Bienvenido, Israel, Jaime, Edwin, Dimas, Wilson, Noel and Rene Ramos; three daughters, Iris, Ester Ramos and Nilsa Cruz; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, followed by interment in Lakeview Cemetery. CHIRSKY
John S. "Jerry" Chirsky Jr., age 83, of Stratford, died on Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport to the late John and Mary Chirsky, he was a lifelong Stratford resident. Mr. Chirsky was the retired proprietor of the Armory Grille in Bridgeport, and was also employed at the General Electric Co. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Dorus Kusy Chirsky; his children, John "Jack" Chirsky and his wife, Jackie, of Largo, Fla., Wayne Chirsky and his friend, Laurie Brown, of Stratford, Kathleen McKay and her husband, Thomas, and Kevin Chirsky, all of Stratford; five grandchildren, Cassie-Ann, Michelle and Amanda Chirsky and Zackary and Ryan Schreckengost; his brother, Joseph Chirsky of Stratford; his sister, Lillian Droniak of Shelton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, George and Michael Chirsky; and sister, Mary Habansky. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, and at 9 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, Bridgeport. Interment in St. John`s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Panachida will be at 4:30 p.m.

BABEY
Mary Babey Babey, age 89, of Stratford, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2002, at her home. Born in Bridgeport to the late Michael and Mary Babey, she was a resident of Stratford for 60 years. Mrs. Babey was a retired inspector for Remington Arms Co., and was a past member of the Mothers and Daughters Club of St. John`s Church. She was the widow of George Babey, and is survived by her beloved son, George Babey and his wife, Mary Lou, of Milford; her beloved daughter, Elaine Babey of Milford; three granddaughters, Terry Crans of Madison, Lindy Crawford of Marblehead, Mass., and Susan Evans of Madison; six great-grandchildren, Haley, Briana and Matthew Evans, Ethan and Samantha Crans and Quinton Crawford; her brother, Michael Babey of Burlington, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, and at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, Bridgeport. Interment will be in St. John`s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Panachida will be at 4:45 p.m.

BARTER
Myrtle A. Barter, age 87, of Trumbull, peacefully left this life to be with our heavenly father on Saturday, June 29, 2002. She had been a resident of Shelton Lakes for the past two-and-a-half years, and had previously resided in Trumbull for more than 20 years. At Shelton Lakes, she was comforted by the dedicated staff members who cared for her. as well as her daughters, June Kennedy of Stratford, and Patricia Miller of Minnesota, who were fortunate to be at her bedside when she passed on. Myrtle was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling. Most of all, she took great pride in attending numerous family celebrations. In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her beloved son, Richard Barter and his wife, Betty, of El Paso, Texas , who were able to share regular visits and phone calls with her. Myrtle was "Nana" to 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Private funeral services have been entrusted to the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford.
HILL Rose Hill, age 77, of Orange, entered into rest on Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Arthur Hill. Mrs. Hill was born in Derby, February 28, 1925, daughter of the late Dominick and Matrona "Marie" Nuzzolo Izzo, and was an Orange resident for many years. She was employed as a bookkeeper for many Valley businesses. Rose was a volunteer at Griffin Hospital Community Health Resource Center for the past six years. She was also the program and ads chairperson of the Orangewood Women`s Club, a member of the Shubert Stars and a past officer of the Orange Chapter of the AARP. She was the beloved mother of Beverly Lombardi and her husband, James, of Ansonia; sister of Giacomo "Jack" Izzo of New Haven, and Elizabeth "Betty" Battaglia of Derby; and proud grandmother of James Lombardi Jr. of Naugatuck, and Arthur Lombardi of Woonsocket, R.I.; and great-grandmother to Cody. She was predeceased by her brother, John Izzo. Her funeral will leave the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby, on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Infant Church, Orange. Burial will follow in Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.

ALEXANDER
Anna Vargo Alexander, age 89, of Fairfield, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Cambridge Manor, Fairfield. Mrs. Alexander was born in Pennsylvania , and was an area resident for many years. She was a member of the St. Emery`s Church Seniors Club. She was the widow of Gabriel Alexander. Survivors include two daughters, Helen J. Butera and her husband, Ralph, of Fairfield, and Shirley Cassidy and her husband, Richard, of Florida; seven grandchildren: Scott Wakeling and his wife, Patti, Cindy Deem and her husband, Randy, Darcy Wakeling, Susan Leazier and her husband, Michael, Tracy Broderick and her husband, Michael, Brian Butera and Jason Butera and his wife, Shannon; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Wakeling, Morgan Lazier and Lexi Deem; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport, and at 9:30 a.m. in the Assumption Church, Fairfield, for a Mass of Resurrection. Interment will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call on Sunday (TODAY), from 4 to 7 p.m.

THOMAS
William A. Thomas, age 98, of Stratford, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Lord Chamberlain Health and Rehabilitation Center, Stratford. Mr. Thomas was born on August 4, 1903, in Liverpool, England, the son of the late William and Emma Thomas. He was a retired general foreman for Dresser Industries, where he was a member of the Foremen`s Club and Quarter Century Club. Mr. Thomas also worked for the Underwood Co., where he invented many parts for the typewriter. He was raised in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport. He was past president of Knights of St. George and was also a member of AASR, was a 33rd Degree mason, and was also a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross. He was an avid sailing sportsman and played on many sports teams. He was the widower of Margaret Wargo Thomas. Survivors include a nephew, George Wright of Easton; and several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Thomas; two sisters, Isabelle and Ellen; and a nephew, Stanley Thomas. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport. Interment will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. There will be no calling hours. Donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, 150 Chapel Street, Stratford, CT 06614.

ORFINO
Scott David Orfino, age 42, of Milford, died peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was born on November 5, 1959, in Bridgeport, to the late Simone and Anne Carr Orfino. He was an aircraft painter for Sikorsky Aircraft. Scott, a devoted husband and father, is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Michele; and children, Samantha and Scott Jr.; brother, Mark Orfino of Honolulu; and sister, Diane Murry of Milford. He is also survived by his loving extended family and many friends. Calling hours are on Monday, July 1, 2002, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad Street, on the Green, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Church, 325 Oronoque Road, Milford. Interment will be in King`s Highway Cemetery.
