TRAVERS
Sherwood Wells Travers, age 83, of Woodbury and Sarasota, Fla., died on Friday, February 7, 2003, in Watertown after a brief illness. He was the widower of Ruth Wheeler Travers. Mr. Travers was born June 16, 1919, in Woodbury, son of the late James and Edna Wells Travers. He was educated in Woodbury schools and graduated from Becker College, Worcester, Mass. in 1939. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1941 to 1945, spending two years in India. He was employed by the Woodbury Savings Bank , the New Milford Savings Bank and severed as a senior examiner for the Connecticut State Banking Department from 1950 to 1955. Mr. Travers then joined the Savings Bank of Ansonia, later Great Country Bank., where he rose to the office of president. CEO and director, prior to his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Woodbury Republican Town Committee, chairman of the Woodbury Pension Committee and the Woodbury Board of Tax Review. He was also a director of Junior Achievement, the Naugatuck Valley Chamber of Commerce and treasurer and vice-president of the board of directors of Griffin Hospital in Derby. Mr. Travers was a member of the North Congregational Church in Woodbury, where he served as a deacon and superintendent of the Sunday school program. He is survived by two sons, Robert W. Travers of Woodbury and James L. Travers of Newtown; a sister, Helen Taber of Pawling, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Richard, Jeremy and Lauren Travers. Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2003, at 10 a.m. at North Congregational Church, 11 Main Street North, Woodbury. Burial will be private. No calling hours. NEMIROVICH
Jacob P. Nemirovich, age 87, of Monroe, formerly of Lake Ariel, Pa., died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Nemirovich was born in Avoco, Pa., on April 20, 1915 to Sophia and Paul Nemirovich. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired electrician and worked for Jenkins Brothers. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Bela Olah of Monroe; a son, Robert P. Nemirovich of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a sister, Anne Stein of Throop, Pa.; two granddaughters, Kimberly Galla and Danyne Espin; a special friend, Jeannie Young; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Monday at a time to be announced. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the John F. BOOTH
Mark Joseph Booth, age 40, of Newtown, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 6, 2003, at his home. Mark was born in Danbury September 3, 1962, a son of Larry C. and Margaret (Goodwin) Booth of Newtown. He was employed as a tile setter for Fairfield County Tile of Monroe. He attended the Newtown Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mark is survived by three brothers, David Booth, Robert Booth and Frank Booth and his wife, Debbie; two sisters, Debbie Hicks and her husband, Christopher and Hazel Bostwick; and a niece, Carrie Ann; three nephews, Christopher, Richard and Ryan; and by his step-mother, Jan Booth, all of Newtown; also survived by his paternal grandfather, Joseph A. Booth Sr. of Peterstown, W. Va. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 10, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, with the Rev. Allen Johnson, pastor of Newtown Baptist Church, officiating. Private cremation. FROLISH
Walter R. Frolish, age 74, of Shelton, entered into rest Thursday, February 6, 2003, in the Connecticut Hospice, Branford, after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Tessie Deptula Frolish. Mr. Frolish was born in Shelton July 18, 1928, son of the late Joseph and Matilda Stronka Frolish, and had been a lifelong Shelton resident. He was employed with the UI Co. for more than 43 years, retiring in 1991 as a supervisor. Walter was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the VFW Post 1236 and the American Legion Sutter Terrlizzi Post 16 of Shelton. He was also a member of the Derby Lodge of Elks, and the Germania Club of Bridgeport, also a member of the Shelton Police Association. Walter is the beloved father of Robert Frolish and his wife, Cheryl, Joseph Frolish and his wife, Donna, Eleanor Brickett and her husband, Richard, all of Shelton, and the late Thomas Frolish. He is the brother of Elma Bracnaro of Shelton, and Lillian Frolish of Oxford; the loving grandfather of James, Rudy, Daniel, Laura, and Sara Frolish, Isaac and Beth Brickett, and Peter Bunosso; and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Frolish; and a sister, Mary Cannata. His funeral will leave the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Monday at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, Shelton. Burial will be in Lawn Cemetery. Rose Capozzi, age 93, of Ocala, Fla., a funeral Mass for Mrs. Capozzi, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2003, at Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church with Father William J. JUKE
George Richard Juke, age 64, of Swansboro, N.C., died Tuesday, February 19, 2002, in Morehead City, N.C. Mr. Juke was born on July 3, 1937, in Agawam, Mass. He was a resident of Fairfield from 1980 until moving to North Carolina in 1993. He was employed by Becker Inc., as a credit manager prior to working with Home Depot until his retirement in 1993. CASTRO
Mary A. Castro, age 89, affectionately known as "Avozingha" by many, of St. Michaels Azores, Portugal, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Edward White Hospital in St. Petersburgh, Fla. Mary was born on March 12, 1913, in St. Michaels Azores, Portugal. She was a resident of Wallingford for 30 years, then moved to St. Augustine, Fla., where she resided for 12 years. Then in 1992 moved back to Bridgeport, where she resided until her final move to the Gracewood Nursing Center, Pinellas Park, Fla., in May of 2001. Mary was an accomplished custom clothing designer and had operated her business, House of Fashions, in Wallingford, for 25 years. However, her greatest accomplishment was the effect she had on all of the lives she touched. She was a true matriarch. She is survived by two daughters, Eugenia Netto and her husband, Dan, of Pinellas Park, and Aldeberta Fernandes of St. Augustine, Fla. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Donna Gianotti and her husband, John, of St. Augustine, and Jeffery Fernandes and his wife, Donna, of St. Augustine, and Daniel A. Netto and his wife, Sandra, of Monroe. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Mellissa Gianotti, Joshua Netto, Justine Fernandes and Jocelyn Fernandes. A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Jude`s Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, on Monday, July 1, 2002, at 10 a.m.
DeLUCA
Wilhelmina "Winnie" Weber DeLuca, wife of the late Felix DeLuca of Milford, died on Thursday, June 27, 2002, in Stratford. She was the mother of June DeLuca of Milford; sister of Margie Pohmer of Charlotte, N.C., Charles Roller of Riverdale, N.J., Donald Roller of East Syracuse, N.Y., and the late Bella and Charles Weber. She was a member of the Milford Senior Center. All services are private. Arrangements are in care of Oak Grove Cremation Service.
SYMONS
William H. Symons, age 56, beloved husband of Kathleen Cali Symons of Bridgeport, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Bridgeport Hospital following a long illness. Born in Chelsea, Mass., on August 19, 1945, he was the son of the late Harold and Mary Lawless Symons. Mr. Symons was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport, and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by Miller Buick of Fairfield for 18 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Daniel Symons and his wife, Theresa, of California, Joseph Lyons of Bridgeport, Patrick Symons and his wife, Melissa, of Michigan, and Kimberely Lyons of Stratford; a sister, Nancy Dobelstein and her husband, Ross of Maryland; four grandchildren; an uncle, Christopher Lawless of Trumbull; a cousin, Kathy Pinion and her husband, Lawrence, of Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Symons. Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 1, 2002, at 8 a.m. from the Spadaccino Funeral Home, 499 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport. BOHDAN
Alexander F. Bohdan, age 90, of Derby, entered into rest peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2002, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the devoted husband of 60 years to Genevieve Wyka Bohdan. He was born in Poland, on April 9, 1912, son of the late Adam and Pauline Duda Bohdan, and was a resident of Derby for 61 years. Mr. Bohdan was employed for 10 years by American Brass Co. and 25 years with B.F. Goodrich before his retirement in 1974. He was an Army veteran serving in World War II as a sergeant with the 277th Combat Engineers and the 333rd Engineers. He was a graduate of Pine Tech Trade School in Ansonia, and a parishioner of St. Mary Church. He was the beloved father of John Bohdan and his wife, Gerri, of Seymour, and James Bohdan and his wife, Donna, of Derby. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Staskiewicz of Union City; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Benny and John Bohdan. His funeral will leave the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby, Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary s Church.
