PIETRINI
Dorothea (Dottie) Kolesar Pietrini, age 83, of Milford, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2002. Dottie was predeceased by John B. Pietrini, her loving husband of 60 years. Dottie was born in Bridgeport, on February 8, 1919, to the late Bella Feeley Barletto and George Kolesar. She was a resident of Bridgeport before moving to Milford 25 years ago. Prior to her marriage to John, Dottie was a professional tap dancer and was employed as a vocalist singing on the radio. During World War II, she went to work in a factory. After the return of her husband, John, from the war, Dottie`s life focus turned to her family. She spent the majority of her years as a devoted wife and homemaker. Her enjoyment in life came from raising her five children and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member at Wildermere Beach Congregational Church. Dottie`s survivors include five daughters: Doreen Wilson, Carol Agria and her husband, Daniel, Rosemary Pietrini, Deborah Srivichitranond and her husband, Poonlarp, all of Milford, and Dorothea Beedy and her husband, Joseph, of Bend, Ore.; one brother, Harold Kolesar of Stratford; eight grandchildren: Tammy Ignatowski, Emery Agria, Danielle Simon, Amber, Laura and Sarah Srivichitranond, and James and Ben Beedy; and three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Phylicia and Caleb Ignatowski; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held on Saturday, August 24, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the Wildermere Beach Congregational Church, 133 Broadway, Milford. CARROLL
Grace A. Carroll, age 96, formerly of Bethel and Fairfield, died on Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Pope John Paul II Health Care Center, Danbury. She was a graduate of Danbury Teachers College, now Western Connecticut State University, with a BS degree in education and received a master`s degree from New York University. Grace taught in various elementary schools and high schools in Connecticut for 48 years. For her last 25 years as an educator, she served as a guidance counselor and housemaster at Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield, retiring in 1973. A private committal service was held at St. Mary Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Bethel, on Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. There were no calling hours. The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements. Donations in Miss Carroll`s memory may be made to Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care, 33 Lincoln Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810, or to a charity of one`s choice.
BROWN
Gerald M. Brown, age 83, of Bridgeport, a retired executive for Royal Canadian Bank, died on Monday, August 19, 2002. Born in Berlin, N.H., he was the son of the late Sam and Ida Meretzsky Brown, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Dartmouth College and received his master`s degree from McGill University. He was a geographical expert who traveled the world and spoke six languages, and was a member of Congregation Adat Israel. For the past 10 years, he was part of the Wonderland of Ice family, where he worked as the commissioner of security. He touched many people and was loved by all. Survivors include his wife, Maria Angela Pantaloni; a daughter; two sisters; three grandchildren; and dear friends, Lisa Fedick, John Ferguson, Roger Soltis and Dennis Krasnow. Interment will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2002, in the family plot in Bney Israel Cemetery, Berlin, N.H. DINAN
Robert (Bob) Dinan, age 65, of New Port Richey, Fla., died on Thursday, August 15, 2002. He was born in Stratford, son of the late Joseph P. and Elizabeth Dinan. He is survived by his wife, Diane; daughters, Dawn, Dana, Debbie, Darcey, Danielle and Dorey; four brothers, Joseph, James, John and Michael; and 10 sisters, Betty Jump, Patricia Pihonak, Frances Stoll, Barbara Andes, Shirley McFadden, Rosemary Giambra, Virginia Guilmette, Eileen Pedevillano, Constance Guggenheim and Margerete Carvalho. Bob`s nephew, James A. McFadden, handled arrangements along with the Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Port Richey, Fla.
COSTANZO
Anthony F. Costanzo Jr., age 64, of Bowie, Md., and formerly of Coconut Creek, Fla., died on Wednesday, August 21, 2002, at his home after a lengthy illness. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of Sophie Costanzo, and the late Anthony F. Costanzo Sr. He was a graduate of Central High School and attended Quinnipiac College. He is survived by his wife, Ida; three daughters, Kimberly Noonan, Cheryl Thompson and Dawn Chapman of Coconut Creek; two stepsons, Kenneth and Steve Williams; grandchildren, Michael, Sara, Christopher, Brandon, Michael, Jessica, Cheyanne and Krista; two sisters, Virginia Bonitatebus of the Huntington section of Shelton, and her husband, Joseph, and Carol Buckley of Trumbull, and her husband, Joseph; and several nieces and nephews. The Kalas Funeral Home on Solomon`s Island Road in Edgewater, Md., is in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at noon at Holy Family Church in Davidsonville, Md.
BOBRYK
Frank J. Bobryk, age 78, of Stratford, beloved brother, uncle and friend, died on Tuesday, August 20, 2002, in Winsted, Conn. He was a disabled World War II U.S. Army veteran and a longtime resident of Stratford. Frank graduated from Northeastern University and received a master`s degree from Yale University. He then continued his education at Columbia University. He worked for Wright Engineering for many years and continued as a consultant for many years. Frank was the son of the late Josephine and Stanley Bobryk. He is survived by a brother, Paul Bobryk; one sister, Helen Mieczkowski and her husband, Edward; two nephews, Edward Mieczkowski and his wife, Linda, and James Mieczkowski; one great-niece, Meredith; and one great-nephew, Justin. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, August 24, 2002, at 9 a.m. at St. James Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of service at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. VINES
William L. Vines, age 58, a regional sales representative for Mephisto shoes, died of cancer on Friday, August 16, 2002, at the Casey House, a hospice in Rockville, Md. Bill Vines was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and grew up in Gales Ferry, Conn. A graduate of Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, and Mitchell College, New London, Bill later served in the Army, where he received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious actions, as well as the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Vietnamese Honor Medal. Bill spent the majority of his career in the fashion and shoe industry. Following a period of owning and managing a clothing store in Manhattan, Bill became a successful sales representative for designer shoe manufacturers, including Charles Jourdan and Evan Picone. In 1990, Bill joined Mephisto, where he worked until May of this year. Bill helped develop Mephisto, an international manufacturer of shoes and sandals headquartered in France, into one of the most successful high-quality shoe brands in the United States. He was recognized as a leader in the industry who inspired, mentored and developed many young sales associates. Bill lived in Rockville, Md., for several years prior to his death. He also maintained a home in New York City and treasured his annual vacations at his family`s summer home in Laurel Beach, Conn. Survivors include his parents, Donald and Sally Vines of Seminole, Fla.; brothers, Don, of Rockville, Jeff of Moraga, Calif., and Keith of San Francisco; a sister, Sally Dugan of Larkspur, Calif.; six nephews; four nieces; and numerous other relatives, beloved friends and devoted business associates. STONE
William C. Stone III, born in Milford, July 27, 1950, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2002, after a long and brave struggle with Hodgkin`s lymphoma, as a result of Agent Orange exposure after serving his country during the Vietnam War. Stoney served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971, and eventually moved to Key West, Fla., where he lived for 25 years and worked for the Naval Air Station, Boca Chica, as a maintenance worker for 15 years. After moving to Brownsboro, Ala., in 1998, in order to accompany his wife to her new federal position, Stoney began working for the Army Corp of Engineers as a maintenance worker up until his recent death, completing a total of 22 years Navy, Army and federal service. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Robin, of Brownsboro; his father, William C. Stone Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Milford; two sisters, Robin and Suzanne; a stepbrother, a stepsister, and two nieces, all residing in Connecticut; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Stoney will be deeply missed, but should be remembered for his fun-loving spirit, enjoyment of the beautiful waters of Key West, love for fishing and real enjoyment of life. He also was very involved in softball and playing bocce while living in Key West. Stoney`s ashes will be scattered off the waters of Key West later in the year so that he can go back to the most peaceful place on earth. Smile as you remember him, he`s out there trying to catch the big one!
CURRAN
The Rev. John F. Curran, pastor emeritus of Our Lady of Victory Church, West Haven, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2002. Father Curran was born in Bridgeport, on September 11, 1921, son of the late John J. and Nora Lynch Curran from County Clare, Ireland. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 29, 1946. He had served as a chaplain at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, assistant pastor at St. Lawrence Church, West Haven, and Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield, pastor of St. Peter Church, New Haven, and pastor emeritus at Our Lady of Victory Church. He is survived by cousins, Robert and Margaret Hennessey and John and Patricia Dooley. His body will be received at Our Lady of Victory Church on Friday at 4 p.m. and will lie in state until a parish Mass is celebrated at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Archbishop Daniel A. Cronin as principal celebrant. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. The Keenan Funeral Home, West Haven, is in charge of arrangements.
