“A.J.” Andrew Nicholas Morelli Jr.

“A.J.” Andrew Nicholas Morelli Jr., 42, of Hopbrook Road, Brookfield, devoted husband of Lisa (Canessa) Morelli, died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 2, at Danbury Hospital.
Andrew was born Jan. 15, 1961, in Danbury, son of Andrew N. Morelli Sr. and Elizabeth (Shaw) Morelli of Indian Shores, Fla. He was a graduate of Ridgefield High School, Class of 1979, and he graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1983 with a bachelor of arts degree in electrical engineering.
Andrew was employed as an assistant manager for the last four years at Keough’s Paint & Hardware Store in Ridgefield, and previously worked at the D.F. Bedient Co. Hardware Store with his father, Andrew Sr., for eight years.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Brookfield, and a past member of the 5th Connecticut Regiment Revolutionary War Re-Enactment Group.
Besides his cherished wife and his parents, Andrew is survived by his son, Andrew Nicholas Morelli III of Brookfield; and his daughter, Amanda Nicole Morelli of Brookfield.
He will also be missed by his two brothers, Staff Sergeant Mark Morelli at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina and Kevin Morelli of Danbury; his sister, Irene (Morelli) Tennant of Nantucket, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday, Feb. 5, between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield.

William Tanner Jr.

William “Bill” E. Tanner Jr. died suddenly after being stricken ill at his home on Feb. 3, 2003.
He was 60 years old and the beloved father of William E. Tanner III and his wife, Teresa, of Danbury; and Lisa Bonsignore and her husband, John, of New Milford.
Mr. Tanner was born in Norwalk, Conn., June 22, 1942, son of the late William E. Sr. and Evelyn F. Taylor Tanner. He attended Norwalk schools and worked for the Raytheon Co. in Norwalk for many years. He settled in Danbury 31 years ago and was currently manager of Bagel Bob’s in Danbury. He attended the Methodist Church and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Redman in Norwalk.
Besides his children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Courtney, William IV and David Tanner and Joseph Bonsignore; and his ex-wife, Arlene (Romanelli) Tanner. Also his sisters, Frances D’Alessio of Rowaton, Conn., Mary Dietzel and Natalie Kenny, both of Danbury, and Nancie Santo of Naugatuck, Conn.; three aunts and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, with the Rev. Richard E. Edwards, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Danbury, officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan, Conn.
Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home.

Vienna E. Maggio

Vienna E. Maggio, age 80, of Danbury, Conn., formerly of the Bronx and Pleasantville, N.Y., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Salvatore Maggio.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Vito and Catherine Grimaldi.
She was a well-known, self-employed designer of sequins and beading for formal wear, retiring after numerous years of service.
Mrs. Maggio resided in the Bronx and then Pleasantville, N.Y., prior to moving to Danbury four and a half years ago.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Caroline Dobbins and her husband, Joseph, of Danbury; her son, Richard Maggio and his wife, Kathy, of Katonah, N.Y.; her son, Robert Maggio and his wife, Linda, of Pleasantville, N.Y.; her brother, Victor Grimaldi of Miami, Fla.; her loving grandchildren, Gregory, Kimberly, Joey, Kyle and Brandon; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Robbie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 12:15 p.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
Michael Carr

Michael Carr, age 28, beloved son of Karen and Peter Ruggiero of Brewster, NY, died suddenly and unexpectedly on February 2, 2003 in Albany, NY, where he had been living for several months, planning to attend school to become a substance abuse counselor.
He is survived by his mother and father, his grandmother Catherine, Uncle John Carr, his half-sister Amanda Carr, his Aunt Nancy and Uncle Frank Goor, his Aunt Kim Tausek, his devoted friend Alexa Poli and several cousins. His was life too soon ended and he will be forever missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY. Contributions in his memory may be made to Putnam Hospital Center Foundation-Detox Center, 664 Stoneleigh Avenue, Carmel, NY 10512.
John W. Moran

John W. Moran, 69, of Ezra Road, Danbury, died at the Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, December 3, 2002.
He was born in Danbury April 9, 1933, son of the late John W. and Arlene (O’Donnell) Moran. John was a lifetime Danbury resident.
He graduated from Danbury High School, Western Conn. State University and had received his master’s degree from Fairfield University.
John taught at the Henry Wells Middle School in Brewster for many years, and retired in June of 1990. John, who served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, was a member of St. Peter Church and The Korean War Veteran’s Association.
He is survived by a brother, James M. Moran of Newtown; a nephew, David R. Moran of Danbury; a niece, Susan J. Santos of Marlboro, MA and two grandnephews.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Joan C. Moran.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.. Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Carl F. Norden

Carl Fehring Norden, a retired U.S. Foreign Service officer for 29 years, who was distinguished for his expertise in international finance, died at home in Washington , D.C., on Nov. 30.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 22, 1908, son of Elsie Fehring of Zurich, Switzerland and Carl Lukas Norden, the inventor of the Norden bombsight and other key military inventions used during World War II.
Norden was on the board of Barden Corporation in Danbury, for more than 20 years, including acting president, and oversaw its sale to FAG in 1990.
Norden received a Congressional Certificate of Merit in 1992 for his service in the Foreign Service “for consistently supporting our cherished American ideals of freedom in economic opportunity and national strength and his commitment to the President of the United States.”
He was known for his international financial reports and his expertise in negotiating skills and insights during World War II and an expert in Latin America.
In the United States, Mr. Norden was assistant director of the Office of Colombian-Venezuelan Affairs for 3 years until he retired in 1968 from the Foreign Service.
The memorial service is Saturday, December 7th, 2002 at 2 p.m. at St. Alban’s Church, 3001 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington , D.C. with a reception at St. Alban’s Guild Hall. Concetta Granata

Concetta Granata, 85, of Norwalk, died Tuesday at the Honey Hill Care Center in Norwalk. She was the wife of the late Nicholas Granata.
Mrs. Granata was born in Norwalk May 5, 1917, daughter of the late Angelo and Antoinette Tucciarone and she was a former employee of Meyer’s Manufacturing and Perkin Elmer. She enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe, gardening and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine C. Granata of Denver, CO; 2 sons, Richard N. Granata of Norwalk and William E. Granata of New Milford; 2 brothers, Ralph Tucciarone of VT and Thomas Tucciarone of Old Lyme; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by 3 sisters, Mary, Lucy and Filomena.
Services will be held Friday, December 6, noon at the Parkway Assembly of God, 260 New Canaan Ave., Norwalk.
Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
Friends may call at the church on Friday at 11 a.m. until services begin.

Ann M. Pomeroy

Ann M. Pomeroy, 82, of Golden Hill Road, Danbury, wife of the late Stuart Pomeroy, died at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Tuesday.
Ann was born in Danbury, November 9, 1920, daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Walko) Miskar Sr. She was a graduate of Danbury High School and has been a lifelong resident of Danbury.
Ann is survived by three daughters, Lynn Ann Staats and Barbara Drew of Danbury and Janice Hardej and husband Robert of Pittsfield, MA; a brother, Stephen Miskar Jr. and wife Rose; as well as her grandchildren, Michael, David, Holly, Emily, Sarah and Marit; great-grandchildren, Valarie, Jessica and Briana; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by a brother, John Miskar.
Funeral services will be celebrated at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery.

Elli Sachs

Elli Sachs, age 90, of Newtown, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at the home of her son in Woodbridge, Virginia. She was the widow of Karl Sachs who died in 1984.
Mrs. Sachs was born in Briesnig, Germany October 17, 1912, a daughter of the late Heinrich and Anna (Schneider) Sallan.
After escaping from East Germany in 1950, Mrs. Sachs, her husband and children immigrated to the United States in 1956, settling in Bristol, Connecticut. She then resided in Wallingford, Connecticut, Florida and Virginia before moving to Newtown in 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Margot Hall and her husband Robert of Newtown; her son, Christian Sachs and his wife Patsy of Woodbridge, Virginia; 6 grandchildren, Elinor Hall of Jacksonville, FL, Marianne Westmoreland of Winchester, VA, Stuart Hall of Newtown, Michael Sachs of New York City, Amanda Diachok of Virginia Beach, VA and Patrick Sachs of Woodbridge, VA. Also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, Elli and Tanner Westmoreland and Nicholas and Brendan Hall.
On October 17, 2002, Mrs. Sachs enjoyed the company of her entire family on the occasion of her 90th birthday.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family is planning a celebration of her life at a later date. Arrangements by Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown.
Andrew McKim Radcliffe

Andrew McKim (Andy) Radcliffe, age 27, formerly of Cambridge, Md., and presently of Cincinnati, Ohio, died suddenly Friday, November 29, 2002, at the home of his brother and sister-in-law in Lafayette, Indiana.
Born on February 26, 1975, in Cambridge, Md., he was the son of George M. Radcliffe, Jr. and Jacquelyn McCann Radcliffe of Cambridge, Md.
Andy was a graduate of Cambridge South Dorchester High School, Class of 1993, where he was the class valedictorian. He received his bachelors of arts degree from Princeton University, Class of 1997 and completed his masters degree in 2000 from the University of Miami, Oxford, Ohio.
Andy was a writer and an English composition teacher at the University of Miami, Oxford, Ohio. He had just completed his first novel entitled “Where There Is Water.”
Andy’s hobbies were writing, reading and tennis. He was an all around sports enthusiast, especially liking the New York Yankees.
Surviving, besides his parents, are two brothers, Scott Radcliffe and his wife Meghan of Lafayette, Indiana, and Greg Radcliffe and his wife Melissa of Cambridge, Md.; paternal grandparents, George M. Radcliffe, Sr. and Augusta (Gussie) Radcliffe of Cambridge, Md.; maternal grandmother, Mary McCann of Virginia Beach, Va.; aunts and uncles, Nancy and Michael Marcus of Danbury, Buz and Jane Follmer of Cambridge, Md.; several cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death was his maternal grandfather, John McCann and aunts and uncles, William B. Radcliffe, Augusta R. Follmer and Mary McKim Radcliffe.
Andy’s cremated remains will be inurned privately on the family property at Windemere Farm, Cambridge, Md.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, Glasgow St. and Hambrooks Blvd., Cambridge.

Frances Virginia Burdick Kruse

Frances Virginia Burdick Kruse left this world and went with her heavenly father to be born again in the resurrection on December 2, 2002.
She was a resident of Danbury for the past year. Prior to moving to Danbury she lived in Norwalk for 30 years.
Frances was born in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Grace Emma Burdick and William Sanford Burdick. She graduated from St. James H.S. in Newark.
She worked for many years as a caregiver for children and the elderly.
During World War II, she drove an ambulance and served with the Red Cross. Frances also volunteered her time at St. Michael’s Hospital in Newark, caring for the sick and poor children. Later on in years, she was a volunteer driver for the Red Cross in Orange, N.J.
She was a member of the Norwalk Senior Center and the Fairfield County AARP.
Her family was very important to her, and she leaves a legacy of love.
She is survived by her loving and devoted partner for 38 years, George A. Mius; three daughters, Donna M. Ferris of Danbury, Sandra Lowry and son-in-law Russell of New Fairfield, Vicki M. Nolan and son-in-law Ed of Millinockett, Maine; and son, Andreas H. Kruse of Danbury; 2 granddaughters, Cheryl Davie and husband Jim of Danbury, Kelly Lowry of New Fairfield; and two great-grandchildren, Daniel Davie and Meghan Davie of Danbury.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and William Burdick; and sisters, Sara Louise Salch and Gertrude Handler.
Family will receive friends Thursday 5-9 at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son F.H., 2900 Summer St., Stamford, Conn.
