FERENCE
Charlotte D. Ference, age 75, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Norwalk Hospital. She was a lifelong Fairfield resident. Miss Ference was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, and was employed by Pepperidge Farm for 44 years prior to her retirement in 1992. She is survived by two brothers, John Ference Jr. and William Ferrence Sr., both of Fairfield; a sister, Mary Mills of Westport; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road, and at 10 a.m. in St. Luke Church, in Westport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

SICZEWICZ
John J. Siczewicz, age 76, husband of Evelyn (Farrell) Siczewicz of Settlers Lane, Sandy Hook, Conn., died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in the Danbury Hospital. He was born in Woonsocket, R.I., on June 28, 1928, a son of the late Jacob and Marya (Stadnik) Siczewicz. Mr. Siczewicz was a graduate of Providence College and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was employed as an accountant at Avco-Lycoming, Stratford, until his retirement in 1990. A resident of Newtown for 35 years, Mr. Siczewicz was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church. In addition to his wife of 47 years, he is survived by two sons, Peter Siczewicz and his wife, Mariette of Naperville, Ill., Thomas Siczewicz and his wife, Lorianne of Williamsville, N.Y., two daughters, Ann Siczewicz of West Hartford, Conn. and Susan T. Lewis of Syracuse, N.Y.; two grandchildren; one brother, Michael Siczewicz of Ossining, N.Y.; two sisters, Helen Kenworthy of Oradell, N.J. and Stephanie Siczewicz of North Smithfield, R.I. Predeceased by a sister, Frances Siczewicz of North Smithfield. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2001, at 9:30 a.m. from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Conn., and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Anns Cemetery, Cranston, R.I., Monday, July 30, 2001, at 1 p.m. Friends may call Friday, July 27, 2001, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made to Newtown Ambulance Association, P.O. LACKO
Evelyn D. Gernat Lacko, age 85, of Preston Hollow, N.Y., formerly of Stratford, passed away at the Albany Medical Center on Monday, July 9, 2001. Born on April 10, 1916, to the late John and Clementine Marcyenko Gernat, she was a retired office manager of Acme-Abercrombie Co. in Bridgeport. Mrs. Lacko was the widow of Stephen Lacko, and was predeceased by her son, Kenneth Lacko. Survivors include her son, Stephen Lacko of Preston Hollow; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Papa of Stratford; and a brother, John Gernat of Salisbury, N.H. She was predeceased by two brothers, Albert and Edward Gernat. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 28, 2001, at 10 a.m. in St. Mark`s Church, Stratford. Interment will be in St. Michael`s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Those desiring may make contributions in her memory to a charity of their choice.

TRUMBULL, CT
MEROLA
Joseph A. Merola, age 72, born November 18, 1928, in Bridgeport, died on Sunday, July 15, 2001, in Athens, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Carmela Merola, and a brother, Joseph. He is survived by his beloved sister, Catherine Macisco of Bridgeport; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Gaetana and Augustine Merola, Nicholas and Kathleen Merola, all of Bridgeport, Anthony and Rose Merola of Shelton, and Salvatore and Diane Merola of Georgia. He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, and his pet bird. Joseph was a member of Scout Troop 34 of Bridgeport, and was an Assistant Cub Master. He was very proud of being a Veteran and serving his country. He served in Korea in 1952 as a member of the famous Wolfhounds. Joseph was an active member of the VFW Post 145 in Bridgeport and VFW Post 2872 in Georgia. He also belonged to the 3rd Order of St. Frances. He worked many years for Fletcher Thompson, Inc. Joseph will be remembered for his acts of kindness, sense of humor, abundance of patience, compassion for others, and his volunteer activities in which he provided service for the less fortunate. Friends may meet directly for a Memorial Mass celebrating his life in St. Ambrose Church, 1596 Boston Avenue, Bridgeport, on Saturday, July 28, 2001, at 10 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to The Memorial Foundation at The Catholic Center, University of Georgia, 1344 Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA. 30605. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering on Friday, July 27, 2001, at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, from 6 to 8 p.m.

ADZIMA
Joseph P. Adzima, age 66, of Trumbull, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Joe, a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, was born in New York City, son of the late Dr. Joseph and Margaret (Krak) Adzima. He was retired from the town of Trumbull where he was the fire marshal for many years. He was also an area auctioneer, appraiser and antique dealer for more than 30 years, and was a past member of the International Society for Appraisers, National Auctioneers Society and American Association of Appraisers. He was a current member of the National Association of Professional Appraisers, New England Appraisers Association, and past treasurer and member of the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Society of Auctioneers. He was the proprietor of a full-time auction gallery in Fairfield and several antique stores in the Bridgeport area for the past 25 years, and was also a charter member of the Trumbull Historical Society, and a member of the National Fire Protection Association, New England Fire Marshals Association, Connecticut Fire Marshals Association, Fairfield County Fire Marshals Association, Fairfield County Fire Chiefs Emergency Plan, Nichols Fire Department, International Association of Arson Investigators, Connecticut Association of Arson Investigators, International Association of Bomb Technicians and International Association of Fire Chiefs. Survivors include his beloved wife Carol Gottschalk Adzima; three sons, Joseph Adzima and his wife, Deanna, of Escondido, Calif., Eric Adzima and his wife, Ann, of Merimar, Fla., and Christopher Adzima of Fairfield; one granddaughter, Lauren Adzima; one sister, Christine Baenen of Tamarac, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Adzima. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, July 28, 2001, at 9 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Trumbull, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will be in Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Unit.

BERRIOS
Heriberto E. Berrios, age 37, of Bridgeport, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford. Heriberto was born on May 20, 1964, in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, and was the son of the late Luis Angel Berrios, and beloved son of Rosa Elena Nunez Berrios. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Carmen Lopez-Torres of Puerto Rico; two brothers, Luis Berrios, and Frank Rosa; four sisters, Rosa Morales, Arlene and Eunice Berrios and Nydia Martinez, all of Bridgeport; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many other friends and family members in Puerto Rico. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 28, 2001, at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Patrick`s Church, North Avenue, Bridgeport. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. The Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2189 Barnum Avenue, Stratford, will be in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, those who so desire, may contribute to the Berrios family in memory of Heriberto.

COLEBROOK, NH
BROAD
Robert M. Broad Jr. of Mt. Forrest Avenue in Berlin, N.H., died at his home on Monday, July 23, 2001. He was born on September 30, 1949, in Bridgeport, the son of Robert F. and Dolores (Mitchell) Broad. He grew up, lived and attended school in Shelton. He worked as an auto mechanic in the family-run Huntington Chevron Station in Shelton, until he went in the U.S. Navy and served 2 years aboard the U.S. Rogers during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he went back to Shelton, and again went to work with his family. In 1976, his family moved to Errol, N.H., and he worked as a mechanic in the Shelton area until moving to northern New Hampshire in the mid 80s to be around his family. He first lived in Colebrook, N.H., and then moved to Berlin. He was an avid sportsman. He is survived by his father, Robert F. Broad of Errol; five brothers, Ronald of Errol, Allan of Haines City, Fla., Louis of Salem, N.H., David of Berlin, and Ralph of Errol; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Dolores (Dee) Broad in September of 1997. There will be no calling hours. Services and burial will be at the family`s convenience. Donations in his memory may be sent to the Errol-Wilson`s Mills Rescue Squad c/o Mrs. Elsie Hall, P.O. Box, Errol, NH 03579. The Jenkins Funeral Home of Colebrook, N.H., is in charge of the arrangements.

Gary J. Regan, age 43, of Bridgeport, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, he was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Regan was a mover for Wade & Stiewing Movers. Survivors include his father, Joseph Ferrari of Bridgeport; his mother, Ruth Regan of Bridgeport; and his uncle, John Regan of Bridgeport. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, July 28, 2001, at 8:15 a.m. from the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport, and at 9 a.m. in St. Augustine Cathedral. Interment will be in St. Michael`s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

DENES
Edward J. Denes, age 89, beloved husband of Theresa Magi Denes of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at his home. Born in Bridgeport on July 18, 1912, he was the son of Edward and Ethel Denes. A lifelong Bridgeport resident, Mr. Denes was employed at Warner`s, Dolan Steel and Bunker Ramo. Throughout his youth and adult life, he was an active participant on the Bridgeport athletic scene. As a young man, he played football with the Western Jacksons, a local semi-pro football team. Later he became a coach of many local football teams, guiding young men with team spirit and sportsmanship. In subsequent years, he became an avid golfer with widespread recognition of his talent. He was a supportive team player and a worthy competitor, especially at Fairchild Wheeler golf tournaments. In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his loving children, Edward J. Denes Jr. and his wife, Cathleen, of Stratford, Linda Betz and her husband, James, and Karen Denes Dominik, all of Trumbull. He will be sadly missed by his four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Laura Sutay of Fairfield. He was predeceased by a sister, Isabelle Denes; and two brothers, Charles and Frederick Denes. Funeral services will take place on Friday at 8 a.m. from the Spadaccino Funeral Home, 499 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Augustine Cathedral, 359 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. See www.legacy.com for more information.

KASFELDT
Ethel B. Kasfeldt, age 87, of the Southport section of Fairfield, beloved wife of Albert Kasfeldt, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Mediplex of Southern Connecticut in Milford. Born in Bridgeport, she was a lifelong resident of Fairfield and Southport. During her lifetime, Mrs. Kasfeldt volunteered for the Red Cross and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. For a time she was employed at Continental Travel of Fairfield. In addition to her husband, Albert, she is survived by three sons, Albert W. Kasfeldt III and his wife, Judy, of New Berlin, Wis., Dale O. Kasfeldt and Neil W. Kasfeldt, both of Southport; a sister, Helen Orosz of Fairfield; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, July 27, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Arrangements by the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road.
