Richard Tyler Horrigan

Richard Tyler Horrigan, 17, of 17 Church Street, New Preston, CT, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident.
Mr. Horrigan was born in Danbury, CT August 4, 1985, son of Richard Peter and Kathleen Dunn Horrigan.
He was a member of the senior class of Shepaug Valley High School, Washington , CT. An honor student, he was a member of the school’s varsity soccer, swimming and baseball teams. A pitcher and second baseman, he was named a league all-star in both the Berkshire and the American Legion leagues. He was also a Babe Ruth Little League umpire.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three younger brothers, Travis, Troy and Teige; maternal grandmother, Berte Dunn; five uncles, William Horrigan Jr., Eugene Horrigan, Rob Horrigan, Peter Dunn and Kevin Dunn; two aunts, Michele Segerson and Moira Dunn-Bianco; 14 first cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Washington , CT.
Friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.

Manuel S. Miguel

Manuel S. Miguel, longtime Danbury resident, passed from this life at Villa Healthcare Center in Sherman, Illinois at 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, just 20 days before his 90th birthday.
He joins his beloved wife Florence Noble Miguel, who shared his life for 59 years until her death February 4, 1997.
Mr. Miguel was born in Lousan, Portugal on April 28, 1913, the son of the late Joseph Miguel and Maria Simoes Miguel. He came to the United States in 1931 and had lived in Danbury until January 4, 2003, most recently at the Bishop Curtis Homes in Danbury. He retired from the Barden Corporation where he was a machinist.
He was a member of the Portuguese Cultural Center and the Portuguese American Club, where he held various offices including president.
Mr. Miguel is survived by his son, Dr. Richard Miguel, Ph.D. and his wife Laurie of Springfield, IL; and his daughter, Pamela Miguel Clinton and her husband Ronald of Newtown; his granddaughters, Candice Clinton Pion and of Chaplin, CT, Laurian Miguel Greenbury of Lake Forest, IL, and Lynne Miguel Pilkington of Biggsville, IL; a great-granddaughter, Audrey Rose Pion; and his great-grandsons, Ryan and John Greenbury.
He is also survived by his brother, Americo Miguel, of St. Petersburg, FL; and his sisters, Linda Battista of Sandy Hook, and Phyllis Mackinnon, Eleanor Cassidy, and Julie Corona, all of Danbury. He was also the brother of the late Larry S. Miguel of Danbury. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews, Raymond, Nelson, Larry, Ronnie, Eddie, Joanie, Cookie, Jay, Laurie, Dorothy, Maryanne, Rusty, Frankie, Todd and Kathy.
There will be a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church in Danbury on Monday April 14, 2003 with burial to follow at St. Peter Cemetery
in Danbury. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on Sunday, April 13, 2003. Walter Wayman, retired Danbury Police captain

Walter Wayman, of Wildman Street, Danbury, loving husband of the late Helen (Kowalski) Wayman, died on Wednesday, April 9 at Pope John Paul II Center for Healthcare, at the age of 91.
He was born on July 31, 1911 in Poland, son of the late Leon and Mary (Czajka) Wayman. He moved to the United States at the age of 9 and made his home in Danbury.
Walt was a police of officer with the Danbury Police Department for more than 35 years, and retired as Captain in 1973. He courageously assisted in the recovery efforts during the Danbury Flood of 1955 and the bombing of the Danbury Police Department. Upon retiring he worked as a Sheriff at the Danbury Superior Court. Prior to being a police officer he worked as a hatter for Bieber Goodman Hat Factory in Danbury.
Walt was a lifetime parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Danbury, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a lifetime member of the Police Association of Connecticut, a Charter Member of the Police Benevolent Association, a Charter Member of the Commission on Aging, was a past officer of the Polish American Citizen Club and was a Charter Member of the Local AARP (Chapter 1847).
Walt will be missed by his cherished daughters, Barbara A. Novella and her husband Russell, Joan DeFalco, and Rita Hedges and her husband, David, all of Danbury. He will also be missed by his eleven loving grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother; John Wayman of Florida, two sisters; Irene Zeneski of Pawling, N.Y., and Loretta Kunicki of Danbury, as well as several nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by longtime companion, Mary Sedlak. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph and sister, Leona Pinkos.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 12 Cottage Street, Danbury, with entombment to follow at St. Peter Mausoleum. Friends may call on Thursday, April 10 between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury.

Thomas M. Barczak, 60, of 5500 North Main St., Fall River, Mass., died Tuesday.
Born in Michigan, he lived in Ridgefield and Fall River for many years.
A graduate of Norwalk State Technical College, Norwalk, he had been employed by AMF, Inc., of Stamford, and Lightolier of Fall River.
Survivors include his mother, Helen Jacob of Michigan; a son, Joseph Barczak of Danbury; a daughter, Jennifer Barczak of Providence, R.I.; a brother Gerald Barczak of Michigan; and two sisters, Rose Bareham of Michigan and Jean Barczak of Pennsylvania .
Funeral service will be Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 S. Main St., Fall River.
Visitation will be Saturday, prior to the service, from noon to 2 p.m.

Ronald J. Caron, Jr.

Ronald J. Caron, Jr., 41, of Scudder Road, Newtown, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Pittsfield, Mass., December 30, 1961, a son of Ronald J. and Florence A. (Clark) Caron of Newtown. Ronald had been a resident of Newtown since 1964. He attended Newtown schools and was a graduate of Newtown High School. Following high school, Ronald attended Unity College in Maine where he majored in environmental sciences. He graduated from Craftsbury College in Vermont in 1982. A self-employed house painter for many years, he was proprietor of Residential Painting Service of Newtown. Ronald was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.
In addition to his parents, Ronald is survived by a sister, Melinda A. DeCusati and her husband Robert of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Steven J. Caron and his wife Kelly of Houston, Texas ; several aunts, cousins, nieces and a nephew.
Funeral Services will be held Monday April 14, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. from Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday April 13, 2003, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Walter Coladarci

Walter M. P. Coladarci, 76, of 12 Old Grays Bridge Road, Brookfield, husband of Beatrice (Erickson) Coladarci, died at Mediplex of Danbury, on Wednesday, April 9, 2003.
Walter was born in Danbury, August. 20, 1926, son of the late Martin and Mary (Gigliotti) Coladarci. He grew up in Danbury and graduated from Danbury High School, class of 1944. He played softball for the Moose Lodge, in the old Industrial Softball League, and was manager for the Danbury Advertisers softball team and the Mutual Rough Hat softball team. Walter later served as the assistant coach for the basketball team at St. Joseph School, Brookfield, under coach Jim Stahley and served as manager of all sports at Danbury High School, from 1941-1944.
Walter was co-owner of the former Coladarci Brothers Market on Osborne Street, Danbury, from 1947 until their closing in 1968, when he went to work as a meat cutter for Ancona’s Market in Ridgefield, and then went on to work as a custodian in the New Fairfield school system, where he retired as Head Custodian, in 1991.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Brookfield, and a former member of the Royal Order of the Moose Lodge.
Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters, Toni Noach, and husband Amos, of Brewster, Minnie Owens and husband Robert, of Chesapeake, Va., and Laurie Carlucci and husband Patrick, of Brookfield; his son, Joseph P. Coladarci, and wife, Teresa, of Naples, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Angelo and Emil Coladarci.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield, on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Kathleen Kennedy Veteran and nurse

Kathleen N. “Kitty” Kennedy of Bridgeport, a nurse and former longtime Ridgefielder, died Saturday, Feb. 1, at her home. She was 70 years old and the widow of Richard B. Kennedy.
Mrs. Kennedy was born June 18, 1932 in Barboursville, Va., daughter of the late Raymond and Lorenza Wood Norford. She grew up on a farm in Albemarle County, Va., and graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, Va.
Mrs. Kennedy joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and served two years as a lieutenant, much of her tour at the U.S. Naval Hospital at Great Lakes, Ill.
During her service, she met her husband, a Navy corpsman who was a patient at the hospital. They were married on her birthday, June 18, 1955.
The Kennedys lived in Illinois, New York, Virginia and New Jersey before moving to Ridgefield in 1967. They had a home on Barlow Mountain Road and later Scodon Drive, and most recently Mrs. Kennedy lived on Branchville Road.
Mrs. Kennedy had worked as a registered nurse at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., and then as a nurse for Dr. Phillip Bonanno, also in Mt. Kisco.
For many years, Mrs. Kennedy was an active bowler at the old Ridge Bowl on Danbury Road. She also enjoyed bridge.
“She was a wonderful person who loved her children and loved Connecticut, but home was always Virginia,” said her daughter, Jo Schimke.
Mr. Kennedy died in 1994.
Mrs. Kennedy is survived by three sons, David E. Kennedy of Levittown, N.Y., T. Michael Kennedy of Bridgeport and Stephen R. Kennedy of Bridgeport; two daughters, Theresa K. Brennan of Woodstock, Ga., and Jo Ellyn K. Schimke of Ridgefield; a brother, Raymond “Dick” Norford of Charlottesville, Va.: a sister, Barbara N. Gentry of Charlottesville; nine grandchildren, including Melissa, Nicole and Wade Schimke of Ridgefield; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A brother, A. Durell Norford, died before her.
Services will take place Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, Va. Interment will be at Holly Memorial Garden in Charlottesville.

Mary Halpin Hoffman

Mary Halpin Hoffman, 81, of Cornwall Road, Warren, Conn., died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at the Candlewood Valley Health Care Center, New Milford, Conn. She was the widow of Warren Hoffman.
Mrs. Hoffman was born in Chicago, Ill., Sept. 18, 1921, daughter of the late John and Mary McGowan Halpin. She moved from Chicago to Bethel, Conn., at the age of 9.
She graduated from Bethel High School as valedictorian of the Class of 1938. In 1942, she graduated from Danbury Teachers College and then did graduate work at New York University and Yale University. She taught for 11 years in the Bethel school system and for 26 years in the New Milford school system, retiring in 1984.
Mrs. Hoffman lived in the Washington -Warren area since her marriage in 1953. She was a communicant and former trustee of St. Bridget Church in Cornwall Bridge and a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the Connecticut Chapter of the American Association of Retired Teachers, the Morris Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Warren Prime Timers.
She is survived by one brother, John Halpin of Mexico, Mo.; four sisters-in-law, Barbara Halpin of Bettendorf, Iowa, Natalie Hoffman of Bantam, Conn., Ethel Sabia of Goshen, Conn., and Julie Halpin of Danbury, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and William Halpin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, Cornwall Bridge. Burial will take place in the spring in New Warren Cemetery, Warren, Conn.

Joseph J. Curesky

Joseph J. Curesky, 89, of Ta’agan Point Road, Danbury, devoted husband of the late Jean (Regina) Curesky, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Pope John Paul Center for Health Care.
He was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Plattekill, N.Y., son of the late Zigmunt and Louise (Byczek) Curesky.
Joseph was employed for many years as Superintendent of the Mohawk Hat Company, previously located in Bethel. Upon retiring, Joseph worked as handyman at the dental office of Dr. John Benusis. He was a communicant at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish for over 60 years. He enjoyed baby-sitting his grandchildren when they were young, teaching them and many of their friends how to drive in their teen years, and he proudly watched them mature.
Joseph will be missed by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. and Carol Curesky; his cherished grandchildren, Karen McCusker and her husband, Kevin, of West Hartford, Joseph and his wife, Fran, of Danbury, Catherine Gregory and her husband, Dan, of Sandy Hook, Edward of Danbury and Kristin Quarles and her husband, Mike, of Canton, Ga. He will also be missed by 11 great-grandchildren, Camden and Carolyn McCusker, Nicole, Lauren and Joey Curesky, Brian, Brendan and Katie Gregory and Preston, Parker and Pierce Quarles; and by his sister, Marilyn Lichota of North Carolina. Joseph was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers.
Friends may call Thursday, Feb. 6, between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.

Mary G. Crumb, 90, of West Hartford, wife of the late Alfred T. Crumb, died Feb. 3, 2003.
Born in Scranton, Pa., Feb. 14, 1912, daughter of Thomas J. and Sylvania (Griffiths) Smith, she made her home in West Hartford since 1954. Mary was a member of the West Hartford Dames and First Church of Christ Congregational in West Hartford, as well as the First Church of Christ Women’s Circle.
She was a volunteer with the Hartford Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and at First Church of Christ. Mary enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her two children, Audrey Landers and her husband, Paul, of Wethersfield, and Thomas Crumb and his wife, Susan, of Bethel; six grandchildren, John, Ryan, Todd, Laura, Amanda and Amy; and a great-granddaughter, Milan. She was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Smith.
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. at First Church of Christ Congregational, 12 S. Main St., West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 S. Main St., West Hartford.

Kathleen N. Kennedy, age 70, of Bridgeport, formerly of 519 Branchville Road, Ridgefield, entered into eternal rest Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in her residence.
She was born June 18, 1932, in Charlottesville, Va., to the late Raymond and Lorenza (Wood) Norford. Kathleen was the wife of the late Richard B. Kennedy. She worked as a registered nurse for Dr. Bonanno for many years and was a veteran of the Korean War.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, David E. Kennedy of Leveit Town, N.Y. and T. Micheal Kennedy and Stephen Kennedy, both of Bridgeport; her daughters Theresa Ann Brennan of Woodstock, Ga., and Jo Ellyn Schimke of Ridgefield; her brother, Raymond Norford (Waller); her sister, Barbara Jeane Gentry and her husband, Frank; nine grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Kathleen was predeceased by one brother, Durrel Norford.
Interment will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers all donations may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 680 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton, CT 06484.
