LYONS
James John Lyons, age 75, of Shelton, a retiree of Sprague Meters, died on Friday, July 20, 2001, at St. Vincent s Medical Center in Bridgeport. Born in Ridgefield, he was a son of the late John and Margaret Burns Lyons, and was a former Bridgeport resident before moving to Shelton. Mr. Lyons was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a past member of American Legion Post 11. He was an avid fisherman. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Florence Cafora Lyons; two devoted daughters, Ann Larsen and her husband, James, and Cheryl Csizmar and her husband, James, all of Huntington in Shelton; five grandchildren, Roger Trapasso and his wife, Daina, of Trumbull, Mary Florczak and her husband, Ed, Pamela, Stephanie and Jonathan Csizmar, all of Huntington; a great-grandson, Nicholas Christopher Trapasso; a brother, Father Joseph Lyons of Ca.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Al Lyons. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.and at 10:00 a.m., in St Lawrence Church, Huntington, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call Monday, July 23, 2001, from 4 to 8 p.m.

ESPOSITO
Rose (Cretella) Esposito, age 67, of the Huntington section of Shelton, a dress designer, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 25, 2001, in the Hewitt Memorial Hospital in Shelton. Born in Bridgeport on August 30, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Esposito) Cretella and was a Huntington resident for 39 years. Mrs. Esposito was a graduate of the Trap Hagen School of Design in New York City. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her loving family; her husband Frank L. Esposito; three sons, John L. Esposito and his wife, Pamela, of Shelton, Kenneth F. Esposito of Naugatuck, and Paul D. Esposito of Shelton; two daughters, Joyce Esposito of Shelton, and Elaine Pacelli and her husband, James, of Shelton; seven grandchildren, Christine, Daniel, John and Marissa Esposito, and Lindsay, Michelle and Serena Pacelli; two sisters, Carmella Federici and Marie Gatto, both of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lucretia DeMartino and Concetta Zigo. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY in St. Lawrence s Church in Huntington. Interment in Maple Grove Memorial Park in Easton. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 28, 2001, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave., Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the ALS Association of CT, Care of the Westport Gallery, 125 Main St., Westport, CT 06880 in memory of Rose.

MECH
Robert Paul Mech, age 35, of Bridgeport, died Sunday, August 26, 2001, in St. Vincents Medical Center, Bridgeport. Mr. Mech was born in Bridgeport and was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of St. Augustines School and attended Central High School. He was predeceased by his father, Leonard J. Mech. Survivors include his mother, Martha Busky Mech of Bridgeport; three brothers, John M. Mech of Southbury, Joseph L. Mech of Brockton, Mass., and David A. Mech of Bridgeport; two sisters, Helen M. Tronkowski of Trumbull, and Lanette Mema of Goffstown, N.H.; several nieces, one nephew, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at 9:15 a.m. from the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport, and at 10 a.m. in St. Augustines Cathedral for a Mass of Resurrection. Interment will be in Mount Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 28, 2001, from 4 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Connecticut Traumatic Brain Injury Foundation, Silas Deane Highway, Hartford, CT.

GARCIA
Wilfred F. Garcia, age 73, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Angela Areno Garcia, died on Saturday, August 25, 2001, in St. Vincents Medical Center, Bridgeport. Mr. Garcia was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and received his doctorate of education from Columbia University Teachers College. He was a resident of Fairfield for the past 46 years. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Garcia was chairman of the Foreign Language Department at the University of Bridgeport and taught there for more than 27 years. He also was a foreign language teacher at Andrew Warde High School for more than nine years. He was a member of the American Association of of University Professors, CABBE, and Phi Sigma Iota. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife, Mary, of Clinton, N.Y., and James of Fairfield; one daughter, Ramona of Fairfield; one brother, Bennie; two sisters, Minerva Garcia, and Valentina Lucero; one granddaughter, Emma; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Friends are invited to attend the funeral directly on Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in Lawncroft Cemetery. Calling hours are private. Donations may be made in his memory to the Parkinson Disease Foundation, 27 Allendale Drive, North Haven, CT 06473. Shaughnessey Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield, is in charge of arrangements.

John J. Reding, age 81, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Reding, of Fairfield, died Sunday, August 26, 2001, in St. Vincent s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Complete funeral arrangements will be announced by the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road.

DAVIS
Olga (Flader) Davis, age 92, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Ralph L. Davis, died on Saturday, August 25, 2001, in Cambridge Manor, Fairfield. Born in Bridgeport, Mrs. Davis had been a lifelong area resident. She was an active member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Bridgeport where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society. Survivors include her son, Richard R. Davis and his wife, Suzanne, of Vernon; two grandchildren, Cory Davis and Glen Davis, both of Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at 11 a.m. in St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday (TODAY) from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Spear, Dennis & DArcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford. SAYLOR
John F. Saylor, age 56, of Stratford, beloved husband of Susan Nicolini-Saylor and beloved son of Joseph and Frances Saylor of Grand Blanc, Mich., passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2001, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born on July 24, 1945, in Akron, Ohio, to Joseph M. Saylor and Frances Ross Saylor, he had been a Stratford resident for 17 years. Mr. Saylor was a U.S.Army veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a medic in Okinawa. When he returned from the service, he lived in California where he earned a B.A. degree in English from Cal State University, Hayward. He then graduated from the University of Bridgeport Law School. Prior to earning his law degree, John had been employed as a product development manager with Stauffer Chemical Co. in Westport. He was in private law practice in Stratford with attorney Mark Valentine. In 1985, John was awarded "Outstanding Volunteer of the Year" by the Volunteer Center of Greater Bridgeport. He was a volunteer for the Stratford Red Cross, St. Marks Church, and the Cardinal Shehan Center. He was also a basketball coach for many years at the Cardinal Shehan Center and Sterling House. An avid sportsman, John played basketball and baseball for many area teams. He had been a member of the Stratford Democratic Town Committee and the Mens League at St. Marks Church. In addition to his wife and parents, John is survived by three loving sons, Ryan E. Saylor, Duncan C. Saylor, and Nicholas Ross Saylor, all of Stratford; one beloved younger brother, Luke T. Saylor and his wife, Susan, of Grand Blanc; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barbara and Henry Nicolini of San Leandro, Calif; sister-in-law, Lisa Nicolini and Andy Ingram; brother-in-law, Patrick Nicolini and Lynn Kirk; sister-in-law, Dianne Nicolini and James Hanson; sister-in-law, Maura Nicolini and Robert Sverak; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Joseph M. Saylor III. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Marks Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment to be announced. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 28, 2001, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. DIXON
Maybelle Dixon, age 95, a lifelong Bridgeport resident, died Friday, August 24, 2001, in Hewitt Memorial Hospital, Shelton. Miss Dixon worked for many years at Bullards Co. and retired from Tilo Roofing, where she was employed as a bookkeeper. She was a member of St. George s Episcopal Church. Survivors include her nieces, Janet M. Hannon of the Huntington section of Shelton, and Jean L. Hendron of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several beloved grandnephews and grandnieces. Friends are invited to attend graveside services Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Park Cemetery, Bridgeport, with Fr. Charles Fish of St. George s Episcopal Church officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements by the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.

ABDULLAH
Herbert "Ramsey" Abdullah age 58 of Bridgeport died on Wednesday July 18, 2001, at Bridgeport Hospital, He was born on July 6, 1942 in Harlem, N.Y. Herbert was a life-time resident of Bridgeport and a former counselor for the YMCA for over 11 years. He was a former boxer and was a former member of Police Athletic League where he trained and coached the children in boxing. Herbert leaves to cherish his memory, one son Solomon Ramsey of Mariette Ga., two daughters, Casaundra Ramsey, and Venicia Ramsey Bryant and her husband Javarr Bryant Sr., Three grandchildren ,Javarr Bryant Jr., Jaquan Bryant, Jzania Bryant; two nephews and one niece; and a host of cousins. He was presecesased by his parents, Evans Ramsey Jr. and Mae Frances Hollomee Ramsey, and one brother. Services will be held on Monday July 23, 2001 at 11 :00 a,m, in George J. Peterson Funeral Home, 1021 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport. Friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. to the time of service. Interment to follow at Park Cemetery 670 Lindley Street, Bridgeport, George J. Peterson Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.

Anna M. Bradsnyder, of Foxwood Road, Guilford, died Saturday, July 21, 2001. Wife of the late Walter C. Bradsnyder. Mother of Mary Ann Pillartz of Guilford. Grandmother of Jeffrey Pillartz of New York City and Suzanne Smith of Avon, Ohio. She is also survived by a great-grandson, Brady Smith. Jeffrey Glenn Morris, age 39, of San Francisco Ca., formerly of Monroe, died on Friday, July 13, 2001 in his home after a long illness. Born in Bridgeport, Mr Morris had been a San Francisco area resident for the past 12 years. He was a graduate of Masuk High School and had worked in Process Development for Berlex Biosciences in San Francisco. Survivors include his mother, Lorraine Morris Littlefield of Stratford, a brother, Richard J. Morris of Denver Co, his maternal grandmother, Mary T. Bisagna of Stratford, an uncle Andrew T. Bisagna of Wilmington NC, and his fiance, Julia Gray of San Francisco, Ca. He was predeceased by father, Robert Lee Morris. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Black Rock Congregational Church, 3685 Black Rock Tpke. Fairfield, with the Rev. James Marshall officiating. Florence Kiley Poppa, age 83, of Shelton, a homemaker died, on Saturday, July 21,2001, at Bishop Wicke Health Care Center. Born and raised in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Francis Poppa and Mary Kiley, and was a Shelton resident over 20 years. She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Poppa Sr., and a son, James Poppa. Survivors include three sons; Leonard Poppa and his wife Barbara of Derby, Francis and his wife Mary Ann of Trumbull, and Lawrence Poppa Jr. and his wife Sharon of Milford; two daughters; Theresa Kalagian and her husband John and Ann Marie Jordan and her husband Philip, all of Shelton, 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at 8 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 9 a.m., in St. Joseph Church, Shelton for a Mass of Christian Burial. VOLPE
Edward Volpe, age 85, of Stratford, died on Saturday, July 21, 2001, at St. Vincentus Medical Center, Bridgeport, Born in New Britain to the late James and Rose DuAndrea Volpe, he was a resident of Stratford for many years. Mr. Volpe was a retired maintenace man for Reminton Arms Company. Survivors include his beloved sister, Elizabeth Bredice; two daughters and serval nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Interment will be St. Michaelus Cemetery. The family requests that there be no calling hours and in lieu of flowers donations in his memory be made the the Jimmy Fund.
