Lloyd Ray Logsdon
Lloyd Ray Logsdon, a resident of rural Dolores, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at his residence. He was 79.
Mr. Logsdon was born on Nov. 30, 1919 in Davenport, Wash., to Frederic Guy and Cora Rebecca Irwin Logsdon. He was a graduate of Oregon State University. He was a retired chemist with B.J. Hughes Corp.
Lloyd Ray Logsdon served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, with duty spent in the Pacific Theatre.
He was married to Audrey Janet Coplen for 49 years. They were blessed with four children.
Lloyd was a man of many hobbies, with rock hunting being his favorite. He also enjoyed painting and was a member of the Ute Mountain Artists Society.
Mr. Lloyd Ray Logsdon is survived by his wife, Audrey Janet of Dolores; two daughters, Sandra Lynn Colorado, and husband Chuck Schroeder of Cortez; Judy Lanet, and husband Randy Patterson of Dolores; two sons, Craig Douglas, and wife Donna of Anarbor, Mich.; and Guy Ronald, and wife Roseanna, of Tacoma, Wash. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place with a private memorial service set for a later date.

Wilamae Fox
Wilamae Fox, 63, of Cortez, passed away in Albuquerque, N.M., on Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999. Willie had requested cremation and that no services be held.
She was born to Willis Leslie and Dora Glee Farni Smith in Leedy, Okla., on March 29, 1936. Her family moved to Mancos before her first birthday.
She was raised in Mancos and graduated from Mancos High School. Willie received her nurses training at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Denver.
She worked as a registered nurse at Southwest Memorial Hospital and also as a night supervisor for Vista Grande Nursing Home. For many years she worked as a volunteer for Hospice.
Willie is survived by her mother, Dora Glee Smith, of Mancos; her sister, Marcheta Newholm, also of Mancos; a brother, Leslie Boots Smith, of Tucumcari, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being made through the Ertel Funeral Home.
Arthur ‘Moe’ Morford Sr.
Arthur “Moe” Morford Sr. passed away Aug. 30, 1999. He was born Sept. 6, 1918. Moe was in the Air Force for 21 years and enjoyed meeting and helping people. His hobby was doing all kinds of crafts.
He is survived by his sons, Arthur Jr. and Marion Morford, Grand Junction; daughters Lindell Hopkins and Jean Hopkins from Moab, Utah; Ella McArthur, Wray, and Ann Warren from Rifle; their mother, Vivian Morford, Grand Junction, and his oldest son, Ronnie Morford, Rifle. He is also survived by one brother, Jim Morford, Olathe, and sisters Minerva Locke, Montrose; Betty Brouse, Glade Park, and Irene Bilyeu, Rock Springs, Wyo. He had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“Our father did not want a service,” his children reported. “He said he wanted everyone that knew him to remember him as he was, a man who had a smile for everyone, and that he was a friend to everyone that he had ever met.”
William A. Conner
Funeral services for William Albert Conner, a lifelong resident of this area, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 10 a.m. Cremation is to follow. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the Ertel Chapel from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Mr. Conner passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., on Wednesday, September 1, 1999, at the age of 60. He was born in Cortez on June 18, 1939, to Robert and Irene Maness Conner.
Those surviving him are his wife, Lola Conner, of Dolores; his children, Bill Conner, and his wife, Kristin, of Cortez, and Tina Griffith, also of Cortez; his ex-wife, Marie L. Conner, of Farmington, N.M.; his stepchildren and their spouses, Ray and Annette Davis, of Cortez, Jerry and C.J. Davis, of Lewis, and Anita and Frank Gray, of Cortez. Mr. Conner leaves behind two grandchildren, Jeremy Conner, and his girlfriend, Rosie Vigil, of Cortez, and Tonya Conner, of Cortez; one great granddaughter, Jami Conner, of Cortez; seven step-grandchildren, Raymond, Anthony, Shavana, K.C., Cristopher, Jessica, and Shayla, all of Cortez; his brother, Bob Conner, of Cortez; three sisters, Myrna Rice, of Montrose, Betty Gross, of Wichita, Kans., and Iva Steward, of Clovis, N.M.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His parents and an infant brother preceded him in death.

Glen ‘Speck’ Hanson
Memorial services for Glen K. "Speck" Hanson will be held Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. A lifelong resident of Cortez, Mr. Hanson passed away at the Vista Grande Nursing Home on Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at the age of 78. He was born in Cortez on September 16, 1920, to Eric Helmer and Hazel Kirk Hanson.
Glen, Speck as he was known to many, married Lavina Ballard on April 18, 1948 in Cortez at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. He was a World War II Veteran and served as the Veterans Service Officer with the Red Cross since 1970. He was a member of the Lions Club and the VFW.
Glen is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lavina Hanson, of Cortez; his children and their spouses, Terry and Tim McComb, of Cortez, Norman Eric and Arleen Hanson, of Mancos, and Kirk and Linda Hanson, of Citrus Heights, Calif.; three grandchildren, Tony McComb, Katrina Hanson, and Evan Hanson; his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Helen Hanson, of Cortez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be conducted by the Ertel Funeral Home.
Owen Uptain
Owen Uptain of Naturita, a former resident of Cortez, passed away Aug. 31, 1999, at his daughter’s residence in Denver. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the Hale & Gerken Funeral Home Chapel in Naturita. Burial will follow the services in the Sylvan Cemetery
in Pleasant View.

Mr. Warren Keith Stegall
Mr. Warren Keith Stegall, 96, of Gunnison, Colo., passed away there on Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000.
Services will be held on Friday, March 3 at 2 p.m. at the Community Church of Gunnison. Burial will follow in the Gunnison Cemetery
with Masonic services.
A native of Hart, Texas, Mr. Stegall moved to Colorado in 1944, from Pampa, Texas.
One of the country’s premier custom gunstock makers, Mr. Stegall was renowned for his craftsmanship.
He was a member of the Gunnison Valley Masonic Lodge #39 AF & M in Gunnison, and a member of the Community Church.
He is survived by his son, W. Keith Stegall II of Leadville, Colo.; daughters, Janet Wuske of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Mary Englehart of Cortez; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lucille Nocki Begay
Funeral services for Lucille Nocki Begay, a life-long resident of Aneth, Utah, will be held Saturday, March 4, 2000, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Cortez Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Jack Nakai.
A weaver and sheepherder, Lucille was married to Ben Nocki Begay. In addition to her husband, Ben, Lucille is survived by her children, Marie Smith, of Carson, N.M.; Sarah Slowman, of Aneth, Utah; Wilson N. Begay, of Inscription House, Ariz.; Virginia Etsitty and Janell Salt, both of Aneth, Utah; Ellison N. Begay, of Farmington, N.M.; Julia Nakai, of Aneth Utah; Roselyn Toledo, of Cortez; Maritta John, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Richardson Begay, of Cortez. Three of her children, Amelia N. Begay, Nelson Nocki, and Everett Begay, preceded her in death.
Also surviving Lucille are 48 granchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lewis Tso, of Aneth, Utah; three sisters, Margaret Weston, Lydia Eddie and Louise Jones, all of Aneth, Utah; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her brother, John Tso, and sister, Elsie Harvey, predeceased Lucille.

Dean Wright Burns
Funeral services for Dean Wright Burns, 76, of Dolores are set for Wednesday, March 1, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Summit Ridge Cemetery.
Dean passed away at her home in Dolores on Friday, Feb. 25, 2000. She was born in Eagletown, Okla., on July 25, 1923, to John E. Wright and Florence Tennessee Eason Wright. Dean was the second of a set of twins, born sixth in line to her parents. Her sister, Dall, is 45 minutes older.
Surviving Dean is her husband of 55 years, 11 months, and 4 days, Pat O. Burns, of Dolores; her daughters, Ida Marie Garner, and Patricia Ann Higgins, and her husband, Doyle; grandchildren, Shelly and Wade Jordan, Rodney Rule, Lynette and Clark Watkins, Mickey and Marsha Rule, Russell Garner and Karissa and Krystal Higgins; and great-grandchildren, Jacque Watkins, Billy Millard, Riley Ham, Vance Millard, Lyle Jordan, Melanie Millard, Ross Ham, Tyler Jordan, and Taylor Jordan. Dean is survived by brothers and sisters, Irene Shrivers of Marshall, Texas; J.E. Wright; Dall Leonard, twin, of Benton City, Wash.; Louis L. Wright, of Shawnee, Okla.; and Lou Ann Leyerly, of Marshall, Texas; as well as 18 nieces and nephews from her side of the family only.
Preceding her in death were three sisters, Jesse Marie McFarland, Lorene Durham, and Pauline Roberts; and one brother, J.E. Wright.
Memorial contributions can be made in Dean Burns' name with the National Lupus Foundation. Services will be under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
Daniel R. Lichliter
Funeral services for Daniel Roy Lichliter were set for Friday, March 3, 2000, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 10 a.m., followed by interment at the Arriola Cemetery, with Pastor Gerald Andrews of the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church officiating.
Danny, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Monday, Feb. 28, 2000. He was 49 years old. He was born on Jan. 15, 1951 in Cortez, Colo., to Roy Allen and Catherine Ann (Johnson) Lichliter. Danny had two brothers, Charlie Lichliter and Allen Lichliter, and one sister, Linda Lichliter Melton.Danny is survived by his mother, Catherine Lichliter, of Cortez; his wife, Jolene, of Dove Creek; his children, Traci Lynne Wagner and Catherine Suanne Clark, both of Cortez; Morgan Rose Lichliter, Dominick Jordan Badding, Donavon Luke Badding, and Dakota Nathan Badding, all of Dove Creek; and grandchildren, Michael Bryan Wagner and Dhanielle Mari Clark, both of Cortez. He is also survived by his two brothers and sisters and their spouses and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of friends too numerous to mention.
Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Daniel Lichliter at the First National Bank of Cortez to benefit the World War II Veteran's Memorial Fund.

William Lancaster
William Lancaster, 70, of Pleasant View, passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Friday, Feb. 25. Services are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 29 at the Church of Christ beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Sylvan Cemetery. Rev. Hunt Zumwalt of the Church of Christ will officiate.
Visitation is set for Tuesday morning between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon at the Ertel Memorial Chapel.
William was born in Pleasant View, Colo., on April 6, 1929, the son of Marshall Louie "Luke" Lancaster and Frances Edith Proctor Lancaster. He married Lois Arlene Axtell in Gallup, N.M., on Aug. 12, 1946.
William is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois Lancaster, of Yellow Jacket, Colo.; and by his children, Linda Kay Naylor, and her husband, Jimmy, of Tucson, Ariz.; Darrell E. Lancaster, and his wife, Linda, of Pleasant View, Colo.; and Joe Lloyd Lancaster, of Lorton, Va. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Shelly and Dana Naylor, Jennifer Lund, Mackenzie, and Wyatt Lancaster, and Eric and Randy Lancaster, as well as two great-grandchildren. Eight brothers and sisters also survive. They are: Cleda Vining, of Independence, Kans.; Leon Lancaster, of Ocala, Fla.; Wynona Moss, and Jess Lancaster, both of Cortez, Leona Beaty and Frances Martinez, both of Farmington, N.M.; Louise Baer, of Cortez, and Don Lancaster, of Redding, Calif.
Preceding William in death was an infant son, Gerald Keith Lancaster; and three brothers, Tom, Boyd, and Charlie Lancaster.
