VALENTINE (VAL) C. FANDEL
Valentine (Val) C. Fandel, 84 devoted family man, passed away in his home April 12, 2002.
Val was born in Breckenridge, MN, January 2, 1918. Attended St. John's University, in Collegeville, MN. Served in the Army during WWII and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
He rejoined Sears, Roebuck and Co. after the service and retired from their corporate offices in Chicago after 35 years.
Val is survived by his wife Dottie. They celebrated 60 years of marriage January 2, 2002. There are 5 children. Diane and Valorie of Colorado Springs, Rick from Wheaton, IL, Vince from Denver and Tony from Craig, CO. 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 4 sisters, Kay, Mary Lou, Carol Ann and Grettie and 2 brothers, Tom and Mike. Preceded in death by 2 sisters and 1 brother.
Funeral Mass for Val will be Tuesday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m. at The Holy Trinity Catholic Church. 3122 Pointessta Drive, Colorado Springs, CO.

BRIGADIER GENERAL RAYMOND V. MCMILLAN
Brigadier General Raymond V. McMillan died on Monday April 8 at his home in Sterling, Virginia. He is survived by his wife Betty, Two children Raymond McMillan and Debra Casey of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, two stepchildren, Brenda Wash and Douglas Thomas of Colorado Springs, Jessie and Irding McMillan of North Carolina, and Marcina Easterling also of North Carolina. His grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive him.
Brigadier General Raymond V. McMillan was chief, System Integration Office, and assistant deputy chief of staff, systems integration, logistics and support, U.S. Air Force Space Command, headquartered at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. General McMillan was born in 1933, in Fairmont, N.C., in 1977. He completed the Senior Executive Course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1983.
After enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in August 1950 and completing basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, he was assigned to Highland Air Force Station, N.J., as a radar maintenance technician. Upon attaining the rank of technical sergeant, General McMillan attended Officer Candidate School at Lackland Air Force Base and was commissioned a second lieutenant in December 1958. He was then assigned as a student in the Armament Officers Course. During this period he attended Squadron Officer School at Maxwell Air Force Base.
In June 1964 the general was assigned to Francis E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., as a Minuteman missile launch officer. After completing this assignment in 1968, he attended the University of Wyoming under the Air Force Institute of Technology Program. He was assigned to Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., in January 1971, as a radar engineer in the Airborne Warning and Control System Program Office for E-3A's. General McMillan was a radar engineer on the first flight of one of the radar test aircraft and has more than 200 flying hours as a test engineer in the Airborne Warning and Control System Program.
General McMillan attended the Armed Forces Staff College from January to July 1973. He was then assigned to Andrews Air Force Base, Md., and served as chief of the Airborne Warning and Control System Division, Air Force Systems Command, and later as executive officer for the deputy chief of staff, systems. He then attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
Returning to Hanscom Air Force Base in June 1977, the general served as program director of the Seek Igloo Program, the program to replace all surveillance radars in Alaska. While at Hanscom, he also served as program director of the Joint Surveillance System, the replacement program for the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment System, and as assistant Deputy chief of staff for surveillance and control systems.
In March 1980 General McMillan was given the task of forming an Air Force Systems Command detachment in Colorado Springs, Colo. The detachment assists the commander in chief of North American Air Defense and the commander of Space Command in resolving system acquisition problems. When the Space Command System Integration Office was formed in 1981, he became the deputy chief of the organization and served in both positions until May 1983. The general then returned to Andrews Air Force Base as chief of the Program Management Assistance Group, Headquarters North American Aerospace Defense Command and Space Command in April 1984 as deputy chief of staff, systems integration, and chief, Systems Integration Office, Space Command. He was promoted to brigadier general September 1, 1984 and retired in 1987.
Upon retiring, he became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Computer Technology Association (CTA) of Rockville, Maryland and held that position until his death. In 1990 he received the Black Engineer of the Year Award.
His military decorations and awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Army Good Conduct Medal with two bronze loops, National Defense Service Medal with Service star, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with seven oak leaf clusters and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. General McMillan was also awarded the space badge and the senior missile badge.
Brigadier General McMillan's funeral was held on Tuesday April 16, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church at 1187 Dominion Lane, Sterling, Virginia. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday May 8th at 10:30 AM.
CHRIS PFLUG TOUHEY
Chris Pflug Touhey, a native of Colorado Springs, died April 13, 2002. A widow, Mrs. Touhey is survived by her three children, Tamilou Touhey - Willis, Christy Lynn Rockwell, and Raymond Touhey. She had two grandchildren, Julian and Hannah.
Mrs. Touhey graduated from the Colorado Springs High School in 1959 and became a civil service secretary after graduating from business school. She was a Pikes Peak Rangerette and Served as Girl of the West in 1962.
After retirement, Mrs. Touhey continued to horseback ride and enjoyed visiting historical sights throughout Colorado.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 16th in Woodland Park's Highland Community Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m.
FRANCES MARIE HATTAN
Frances Marie Hattan, 87, passed away on April 13, 2002. She was born on March 15, 1915, and was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1927. Frances was retired from Civil Service; and a member of Naomi Rebekah Lodge #15. She was married to Mervin Hattan, who preceded her in death. Her sister, Lucille Phelps, also preceded her.
Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Campbell; nieces Janet Seltman, and Connie Snyder; nephew Earl Clay; 3 great-nephews, 2 great-nieces, and 4 great-great nephews.
Visitation is from 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at Swan Law Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at First Baptist Church, 317 E. Kiowa, Colorado Springs. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road.
HELEN B. CAHILL
Helen B. Cahill, 79, a resident since 1949, passed away on April 7, 2002 at her home in Colorado Springs.
She was born on March 13, 1923 in Yonkers, New York to Michael and Alphia (Geniak) Tchir, who are now deceased.
Helen was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Cahill of Carefree, Arizona and Deborah Fergione of Parker, Colorado; two sisters, Vera Jancovic and Evelyn Tchir, both of Norwalk, Connecticut; and a grandson, George Fergione of Parker, Colorado
Cremation has taken place. Private family memorial services were held.
ANTHONY JAMES BADALI
Born April 23, 1942. Died April 13, 2002.

REVEREND, MR., THOMAS ELLIOTT PARRISH
Reverend, Mr., Thomas Elliott Parrish died Tuesday, April 16, 2002. He was the son of Chesley Elliott and Francis Balle Parish and was born in Detroit, Michigan October22, 1925. A memorial mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Cathedral, 22 West Kiowa Street at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, with the Most Reverend Richard C. Hanifen, Bishop of Colorado Springs as the main Celebrant. There will be a rosary at Swan Law, 501 North Cascade Avenue at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. Cremation is planned with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
After serving in The United States Navy during World War II and attending the University of Michigan, Deacon Parrish moved to Colorado Springs. He married Mary Elizabeth Gaughan in 1951 in Saint Mary's Church, now the Cathedral. She preceded him in death in 1987.
Deacon Parrish was active in the life insurance business for many years and was a member of the Life Underwriters Association. For many years he was active in the Colorado Springs Civic Theatre and was that group's past president. During the 1950's he worked with the Chamber of Commerce in The Round Up Club.
Following studies at Saint Thomas Seminary in Denver, Deacon Parrish was ordained to the deaconate by Archbishop James V. Casey in the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Denver. He was active in church work and was one of the founders of Care and Share, a local distribution of food to the hungry of the area. He was a supporting member of Amnesty International, The Southern Colorado AIDS Project, The Christian Children's fund, and Silver Key. Deacon Parrish served as a chaplain with The Colorado Springs Police Department and was the coordinator of jail ministries for The Diocese of Colorado Springs. From 1979 until 1988 he was employed as deacon for The United States Army at Fort Carson. At that time, he was the only civilian deacon employed anywhere for the military. For three years, he was on the staff of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. At the time of the Gulf War, he returned to his duties at Fort Carson. He returned to his duties at Fort Carson. He retired in 1995.
Deacon Parrish is survived by his four children: Thomas McNally Parrish of Grand Junction, Colorado, Chesleigh Parrish Kapp of Belleville, Illinois, William Elliott Parrish and James Moran Parrish of Colorado Springs. He was preceded in death by his two sisters Margaret Staley Parrish Morgana of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Elizabeth Moran Parrish Jones of Colorado Springs. Surviving also are one great grandchild, nine grandchildren, one step grandchild, many nieces and nephews grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

HERMAN LEE PEPPER
Herman Lee Pepper departed this life on April 13, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born on June 28th, 1949 to the union of Johnnie and Mamie (Braxton) Pepper. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harry Radford, Jody Pepper and Jessie Pepper.
Mr. Pepper was a Colorado Springs resident since 1974 and was liked among his peers, he also had a great sense of humor and related very well with everyone he met. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and for relaxation going to Cripple Creek.
He leaves to cherish his memory five sisters Margaret Greene, Edith Williams, Doreatha Cotton, Mary Terrell, Lucy Grice, brothers Virgil Pepper, Will Radford also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday April 19, 2002 at Angelus Funeral Directors 2535 Airport Rd., Colorado Springs, CO. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday April 20th, 2002 at Progressive Church of God in Christ, 930 South Prospect St., Colorado Springs, CO. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO.
MARGARET C. PRETE
Margaret C. Prete of Lone Tree, CO, passed away April 15, 2002. Preceded in death by husband Augustine F. Prete and son Josetph T. Prete, she is survived by daughter, Donna Prete, son and daughter-in-law August F. Prete, Jr. and Sara, daughter-in-law Corinne Prete, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2002 in the Chapel of Pax Christie Catholic Church, 5761 McArthur Ranch Road, Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

THELMER GEORGE MOORE
July 5, 1912 - April 15, 2002
Thelmer George Moore was born July 5, 1912 in Mountain View, MO to Emma (Richardson) and George T. Moore. Thelmer, 89 passed away April 25, 2002 at his home in Simla
Dec. 24, 1940 he married Laurine (Shorty) Sinison. Born to this union were Rita (Keith) Dean of Colorado Springs; Dick (Kathy) Moore of Heyworth, IL; Charles (Bernadette) Moore of Golden, CO and Sharon (Bud) Jolly of Livermore, CA. They were blessed with 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three greats expected very soon.
Thelmer is survived by his wife, children, his siblings: Cledys (Janet) of Simla, Ed (Marge) of Stanford, TX, Lucille (Rolla) Cusic of Simla, Delbert (Jeanie) of Monte Vista, CO, Ron of Erie, IL, Verna Bell (Leland) Huscher of Colorado Springs, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his mother Emma when he was a young boy of 8, his father George and stepmother Eva (Kendall) later in life, as well as siblings Georgia, Kirk and June, and granddaughter Jeannine Jolly.
While he was a young boy, his family moved to Colorado where they engaged in farming and ranching. Thelmer attended school at Alta Vista and Simla Union High School where he loved sports. He also played baseball with several area teams for many years thereafter.
At the young age of 16, he and his father became partners in a custom threshing business, serving east central Colorado. Following his marriage in 1940, he served in the Army during World War II. After leaving the service the family moved back to the Simla area where he was well known for providing International Harvester parts and service to farmers throughout the area from 1947 until his retirement in 1975.
During his retirement years he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with his many friends and family.
He thoroughly enjoyed visits to and from his children, grandchildren and extended family, all of whom will miss him greatly.
RUTH EMMA SIETMAN
Ruth Emma Sietman, 88, of Colorado Springs, also of Brecksville, Ohio died Monday, April 15, 2002. Ruth was born in Lakewood, Ohio, February 11, 1914 to parents Pauline and Henry M. Mayer (a well known Cleveland nature photographer). Ruth Mayer married Herbert Sietman January 30, 1943. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and a successful, and winning artist.
Mrs. Sietman graduated from The Cleveland Institute of Art. She studied with Frank Wilcox, Carl Gaertner, Paul Travis, Glen Shaw, Henry Keller, Walter Sinz, Kenneth Bates and had made a professional reputation of her own.
Ruth was a commercial artists, illustrator, and a fine artists, sculptor, jeweler and painter. The majority of her work was of painting media of oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastels. Her ideal painting themes were of landscapes, historical buildings, many flowers and trees. Her paintings had been exhibited all over the country.
In 1938, while attending the Cleveland Art Institute, shed was commissioned by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History to make 825 line drawings of flowers for the book of "Wild Flowers of Ohio." Other books illustrated by her included a child's book, two anatomical books. a book on Florida fishes and Wild Flowers of Ohio and Adjacent States.
Mrs Sietman and her husband Herbert (deceased) were founders of the Brecksville Camera Club and the Brecksville Art Guild, in Brecksville, Ohio. The Brecksville Bank owns a collection of Ruth's Fine Art. She also has a couple of paintings in an Ohio Museum.
Mrs. Sietman is survived by son, Karl, daughter, Reggie Barrett, Grandchildren, Bonnie, Emilie and Henry and great-grandchildren Ian and Miliah.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 9, 2002 at the Shrine of Remembrance.
