Paul Cordonnier
Paul Cordonnier, age 83, died June 29, 2005, at Peace
River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born March 13, 1922, in Dayton, Ohio and came to
North Port in 1980 from Bailey, where he was the owner
and publisher of The Hustler, a local ad paper for the U.S.
285 Corridor. He also owned the Ponderosa Press Print
Shop. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II
who retired as a sergeant in 1945. He was a private pilot
and member of the Civil Air Patrol and Platte Canyon
Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Catholic and a
member of San Pedro Catholic Church.
Survivors include daughters Judy Austin of Arvada and
Mary J. Weber of Brandon, Fla.; sons Bill of Palmetto, Fla.,
Ralph and Bob, both of Buena Vista; a sister Eileen Rose
of North Port, Fla.; a brother Kenneth of North Port, Fla.;
nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a greatgreat-grandchild.
The Memorial Mass was celebrated on July 1, 2005, at San
Pedro Catholic Church in North Port, Fla. Memorial
donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 280
Alligator Dr., Venice, FL 34293.

Jennifer Ellen Sanders
Jennifer Ellen Sanders of Littleton died unexpectedly on
July 9 at Littleton Adventist Hospital. She was 57.
She was born Feb. 14, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa. For 20
years she worked as an executive secretary for Bell South.
She was a resident in the Bailey area in the mid-70s. Her
interests included in crafts and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Steve Jones and a daughter
Jessica Galloway, both of Littleton; mother Marjorie Jones
of Calif.; sisters Judy Longo of Ariz.; Jackie Edmonton and
Patricia Woods of Cali.; sons Mark Jones of Penn. and
Brian and Barry Jones of Calif. Grandchildren are
Samantha, Matthew and Kristen Galloway and Chelsia
Pierce. She was preceded in death by a daughter Bobbie
Sanders.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at The
Barn in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Jennifer Sanders Memorial
Fund, 1st Bank, 10961 S. Parker Rd., Parker, CO 80134.

Harriet Burlew Anderson
Harriet Burlew Anderson, formerly of Grant, Colo., passed
away June 10, 2005, at the age of 78. She is survived by
two children, five grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
Harriet lived the majority of her adult life in
the Platte Canyon area and was Park County Clerk and
Recorder for many years. Service will be held on Saturday,
July 23 at 11 a.m. at Horan & McConaty, located
on Wadsworth just north of Hampden.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the
memory of Harriet Anderson to the Star Reach Club
House, 2531 W. Church Avenue, Littleton, CO 80120.

Clara Eleanor “Eli” Baker
Clara Eleanor “Eli” Baker of
Springfield, Ill., died July 9 of agerelated
causes. She was 86.
Clara was born March 26, 1919, in
Marshalltown, Iowa, to William and
Jesse Boylan Denery. She married
William Baker on Aug. 12, 1979, in
Arvada, Colo. She graduated from
high school and business college and
had worked as an administrative assistant, personal
secretary and stenographer. She lived in Denver, Bailey
and McKenzie Bridge, Ill., before moving to Springfield.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, people, travel,
crafts, games, e-mailing and homemaking. She belonged
to the Oregon Association for the Blind, the National
Association of Retired Federal Employees and the
American Business Women’s Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Hedy Sides of Sequim,
Wash., and Viola Snow of Arvada; three stepdaughters,
Joanne Sussman of Denver, Carol Weaver and Judy Baker,
both of Salida; a stepson, Dan Baker of Heber City, Utah;
a sister, Maryella Dalton of Edwardsville, Ill.; 12
grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six greatgreat-grandchildren.
Her four husbands died previously,
including William Baker, who died Oct. 27, 2002, and
Edward Kiras, Samuel Shepherd and Raymond Tippett. A
grandson, Bobby Hantahan III, and a grandd

Frances Aurora Reina
Bailey resident, Frances Aurora Reina, died July 11, 2005,
at Life Care Center in Evergreen. She was 85.
Frances was born March 5, 1920, in Ledoux, NM. For 16
years she worked as a dietician’s assistant at the U.S.
Naval Hospital in San Diego. Her interests were in
gardening, crocheting and cooking.
On Dec. 11, 1939 she married Charles Richard Reina in
Las Vegas, NM. He passed away June 11, 1982.
Survivors include sons Charles Reina Jr. and Arthur Reina,
both of San Diego, Calif., and a daughter Juanita Moron of
Bailey. There are seven grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.

Melvin W. Wuollet
Melvin W. Wuollet, a resident of Grand Junction since 1998,
passed away on July 20, 2005, of natural causes. He was 82.
Melvin was born June 29, 1923, to Harry Wuollet and
Estella (Lofback) Wuollet in Dassel, Minn.
He was raised on a farm outside of Dassel and attended
schools in the Cokato, Minn. area.
On Dec. 19, 1961, he married
Dorothy. Melvin served in the U.S. Army in World War II
with the 152nd Infantry Regiment in the Battle of Luzon.
He was a decorated soldier with a World War II Victory
Ribbon, APTC Ribbon with bronze star, the Philippine
Liberation Ribbon and also the Good Conduct Ribbon. He
was a member of the Oasis Lodge Free and Accepted
Masons #41 in Las Vegas, Nev. and was a member of the
Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Melvin loved his family and enjoyed the great outdoors:
hunting, fishing and any back country travel were always
an adventure. His shop was full of tools and he was always
working on a project.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy N. Wuollet of Grand
Junction; sons, Mel (Candy) Wuollet of Fruita, Roy Wuollet
of Grand Junction, Leland VanMatre of Creswell, Ore.,
Joseph (Judy) Carmody of Como, Ernie (Bridget) Carmody
of Paonia‚ Patrick (Kim) Cowger of Paonia; daughters,
Andrea (John) Allen of Cedar Creek, Mo.; Suzan (Bruce)
Leavitt of Port Orchard, Wash.; brothers, Richard (Mary
Ann) Wuollet and Donald (Eva) Wuollet of Cokato, Minn;
and Harry (Delores) Wuollet of Ignacio; sisters, Marion
Johnson, Marcella Hallberg, Myrtle (Bill) Keranen and
Janet Wuollet, all of Cokato Minn.; and Mildred (Jerry)
Mattilla of Dassel, Minn. There are 13 grandchildren and
13 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on July 24, 2005, at Martin Mortuary. A
memorial service was held on July 25, 2005, at the
Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.

Pat New
Pat New, Lt. Col., USAF, (Ret.) 74, fought a long battle
with cancer and is now resting in peace. Beloved husband
of Arden. Pat was a graduate of East High School, class of
‘48 and served in the Air Force/Air National Guard for 22
years. He served as a fire fighter/Board of Directors for
the Jefferson/Como Fire Department. He loved the
mountains and was a true Broncos fan. He was the father
of Jules (Tom) Goodwin, Mark (Terry) and Tricia (Bene)
New, stepfather of Gary (Lora) Gammon, Peter (Paula),
Paul and Chris (Sarah) Svendsen and Lisa (Richard) Pike;
10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, nephews and niece.
Donations to Porter Memorial Cancer Center.

Evelyn (Becky) Sowell
Hummel was born April 17, 1917. She died Aug. 3, 2005.
She was a 41 year resident of Englewood and Littleton, Colo.,
and the past 25 years resided in Bailey and Grant, Colo.
She was married to Mitchell T. Sowell for 34 years. He has
preceded her in death. Out of that marriage six children were
born; Jackie (Kent) Morgan, Jeri (Robert) Corrie, Judy (Larry)
Henderson, Joyce (Lon) Garrison, Kyle (Janet) Sowell and
Joella Holbert. She was survived by her husband Russell
V. Hummel. She has 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
Becky was born in Las Animas, Colo. to Kyle and Bealuh
Griffin. She was raised in Ft. Lyons, Colo. and Colorado
Springs, Colo. She was preceded in death by her brother
Kyle at age 7.
During her life she not only raised six children, she worked
at Joslin’s Dept. Store, University of Denver (27 years),
Ramo-Woolridge, and for six years was the Post Mistress
in Grant, Colo., retiring at age 83.
Becky loved the mountains. She loved all her family and
friends, not only here in the valley, but around the U.S.
She and Russ have been the caretakers for the Danneberg
estate for the past 17 years. Russ and family extend their
heartfelt thanks to them.
A Memorial Service was held Wednesday, Aug. 10 at
1 p.m. at the Geneva Creek Park, followed by a private
family burial. Thanks to Al and Liz Gross for their support.
