Leonard Carl Ellerman
Leonard Carl Ellerman passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at the age of 68. Private family services will be held.
Carl was born March 10, 1931 in Ackman, Colo., to Emit Earl and Maggie J. (Kirkpatrick) Ellerman. He had been a resident of the Dolores area for the past five years.
A true cowboy at heart, Carl embodied the many characteristics that can be associated with cowboys of his generation. He loved horses and roping, and from that he practiced the trade of silversmithing, primarily bits and spurs. He held membership in the Pro Rodeo Association.
Carl was big hearted, donating much of his time helping out with high school and junior rodeos. And as any true cowboy can be, Carl could be very hardheaded. He believed in the notion that he could do most things himself without the need of asking for help. Mostly, though, Carl's family was everything to him. He was a very devoted father, grandfather, and friend.
Carl is survived by his children, Jay Ellerman, of Fort Lupton, Colo., Kellie Toft, of Dolores, and Stacey O'Keefe, of Fayetteville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; his sister, Mildred Swift, and her family; his brother, Denny Ellerman, and his family; and a host of friends.
Memorial contributions can be made in Carl Ellerman's name with the Citizens State Bank of Cortez to benefit a memorial scholarship fund for Junior Rodeo. Ertel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
