Dillion, Charles - - (1921 - 2004)

Charles Eugene Dillon of Concrete, Wash., died on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, Wash. He was 82.

He was born on June 7, 1921, in Montrose, to Asa and Alice (Markley) Dillon. He spent his childhood in Delta, graduating from Delta High School in 1939. He attended the University of Colorado until 1942, when he entered the U.S. Army Air Force. He served during World War II until 1946. He returned to college and earned a bachelor of arts degree in education in 1952. In 1953, in earned his master's in education from the University of Colorado.

Mr. Dillon was a doctoral candidate for education administration from 1956 to 1971. He worked in education for many years as a teacher, principal and superintendent in Colorado, Alaska, Montana and Washington. He was the superintendent of schools in Concrete, Wash., from 1971 to 1976.

He was named in Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in American Education, and Leaders of Secondary Education. He was the president of the Ravalli County, Mont., Education Association. He served as chairman of the Salvation Army and United Way fund drive. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge and Lions Club.

Mr. Dillon enjoyed playing poker and pinochle and remodeling houses.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Lauree Dillon of Concrete, Wash.; two daughters, Shannon Kleinhuizen and her husband Scott of Ione, Wash., and Colleen Vickers of Tenino, Wash.; a son and his wife, James and Marty Dillon of Brockton, Mont.; six grandchildren, Jason Kleinhuizen, Jenny Kleinhuizen, Chaz Dillon, Kari Dillon, Caitlin Dillon and Dee Vickers; a great - grandchild, Meshayla Barrett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dillon was preceded in death by three brothers, Lyle Dillon, Roy Dillon and Earl Dillon; a sister, Irene; and an adopted sister, Irene Frossard.

A memorial service was held on March 13, at St. Catherine's CCD Center in Concrete, Wash., with Pastor Tom Ross of Mt. Baker Presbyterian Church officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at the Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Concrete Lions Scholarship Fund.

Hadley, Glennamae - - (1928 - 2004)

Glennamae "Totsy" Hadley of Las Cruces, N.M., died on Sunday, March 27, 2004, at Cottonbloom Assisted Living Center. She was 75.

Mrs. Hadley was born on Dec. 2, 1928, to Henry and Irene Scott. She spent her childhood in Hotchkiss and graduated from Paonia High School. She attended Colorado Women's College in Denver.

She married Jack Hadley on Dec. 12, 1947, in Kent, Wash. He died on Jan. 28, 1989.

Mrs. Hadley moved to Aurora in 1954, to Nebraska in 1981, and to Las Cruces, N.M., in 1996, to be near her daughter. She moved to Cottonbloom Assisted Living Center in 2000.

She was a volunteer with the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Neb., and a lifetime member of the auxiliary to the American Veterinary Medical Association. She enjoyed dancing, singing, country music, attending her first rodeo and the changing colors of the Organ mountains.

Mrs. Hadley is survived by three sons and their wives, Scott and Brenda Hadley of Gibson, La., John and Claudia Hadley of Las Cruces, N.M., and Dr. Terrell and Kathy Hadley of Atwood, Kan.; a daughter, Tracy Hadley of Las Cruces, N.M.; seven grandchildren, Shanna Pollock and her husband Chris of Louisville, Ky., Nicole Hadley of Las Cruces, N.M., Ryan Hadley, Miranda Hadley, Elise Hadley, Tia Hadley and Shay Hadley, all of Atwood, Kan.; a great - granddaughter, Hadley Pollock of Louisville, Kan.; and two sisters, Betty Scott of Las Vegas, Nev., and Barbara Vahrenwald and her husband Mike of Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jack Hadley; a daughter, Sheri Kay; and a brother, Robert Scott.

A memorial service was held on April 3, at Cottonbloom Assisted Living Center in Las Cruces, N.M. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jack and Totsy Hadley Memorial Fund for Animals, c/o Dr. Carol Calista of Calista Animal Hospital, 162 Wyatt Drive,

Las Cruces, NM 88005. The funds will be used to help provide supplemental financial assistance to pet owners in the Las Cruces and Do–a Ana County areas.

Baca's Funeral Chapels and Baca's Mimbres Crematory in Las Cruses, N.M., handled the arrangements.

Jacobs, Frances - - (1939 - 2004)

Frances E. Jacobs, a lifetime resident of Olathe, died on Friday, April 2, 2004, at her home. She was 82.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, at 1 p.m. at Olathe Cemetery, with Pastor John Mocko officiating.

Mrs. Jacobs was born on Dec. 31, 1921, in Olathe, to Bertram C. and Lois Alta (Mattsen) Goddard. She spent her childhood in Olathe, graduating from Olathe High School in 1939.

She married Samuel Jacobs on March 7, 1942, in Raton, N.M. He died on April 17, 1991, in Olathe.

Mrs. Jacobs was a postal clerk in Olathe for over 20 years, retiring in 1976 as postmaster. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Olathe. She was past state president of the Postal Workers Union and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing gin rummy and bridge, and spending time with her family and her dog Wee Wee.

She is survived by three daughters, Janis Jacobs of Creede, Patricia Campbell of Delta, and Kristi Anne Fix and her husband Steven of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren; and three great - grandchildren.

Mrs. Jacobs was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Jacobs; a brother, Fredrick Goddard; and a sister, Mary Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81401.

Meagher, Robert - - ( - - - - - 2004)

Robert Meagher of Cedaredge died on Monday, April 5, 2004, at his residence. He was 78.

Services are pending.

Miller, Hubert - - (1913 - 2004)

Hubert Charles Miller, a lifelong North Fork resident, died on Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was 90.

A funeral service was held on April 5, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in
Delta, with Leslie White officiating. Interment followed at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Crawford.
Mr. Miller was born on June 13, 1913, on Rogers Mesa, to John Edgar and Effie M. (Russell) Miller. He spent his childhood and attended school at Rogers Mesa and Lazear. He moved to Crawford in 1936, living there until 1965, when he moved to the Hotchkiss area.

He married Octavia Filener on July 14, 1942, in Delta. They celebrated 61 years of marriage. She survives.

Mr. Miller was a farmer. He was a salesman for 37 years for Bolinger and Queen in Hotchkiss. He worked as a ditch rider for Fruitland Mesa Ditch until 2002. He enjoyed arrowhead collecting, polishing rocks, reading western books and operating a lapidary shop.

He is survived by his wife, Octavia Miller of Hotchkiss; three sons, George L. Miller of Delta, Charles Allen Miller and his wife Shari of East Muddy, and Gregg F. Miller and his wife Kathy of Bennett; a daughter and her husband, Cyndi and John Cotten of Lazear; 13 grandchildren; and six great - grandchildren.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by an infant daughter and four brothers, Ivan Miller, Fred Miller, Edgar Miller and Allen Miller.

Alice Christensen - - 1923 - 2004

Alice Irene Christensen a lifelong resident of Delta, died on Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 80.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at the Seventh - day Adventist Church in Delta, with Pastor Lonnie Liebelt and Pastor Steve Snow officiating. Inurnment will be held on Saturday, July 17, at 3 p.m. at Delta City Cemetery.

Mrs. Christensen was born on Aug. 9, 1923, in Delta to Henry and Iva (Howard) Oosterhous. She spent her childhood in Delta, attending elementary school at the Seventh - day Adventist School. She graduated from Campion Academy in Loveland in 1943.

She married Virgil Christensen on Oct. 23, 1943, in Glendale, Calif. The marriage was later dissolved. He died in 1997 in California.

Mrs. Christensen was a "Rosie the Riveter" for the war effort. After the war she did pressing and alterations for a dry cleaning service. She became an outstanding seamstress and enjoyed sewing her family's cloths and home decor. In October. 1965 she returned to Delta and continued to work in the dry cleaning business. She continued her education, becoming a licensed practical nurse in 1970. She worked as an LPN in several local health care facilities until her retirement in 1994. She worked in Hilo, Hawaii, for a year.

Mrs. Christensen was a member of the Delta Seventh - day Adventist Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, her pets, her family and friends, and the annual trip she took with her cousin, Mabel Howard.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Patrice and Keith Hieb of McDonald, Tenn.; a son and his wife, Jon and Rita Christensen of Portland, Ore.; a brother and his wife, John and Lois Oosterhous of Delta; four grandchildren, Karen Bandel, Paul Hieb, Lisa Christensen and Marla Christensen; three great - grandchildren, Grayson Hieb, Vance Hieb and Gavin Hieb; and a fourth due in September.

Mrs. Christensen was preceded in death by a brother, Orrin Oosterhous; and a sister, Zella Scabourn.

Brigg Welker - - - 2004

Brigg D. Walker of Cedaredge died on Monday, June 12, 2004 at his residence. He was 42.

Services are pending.

Mr. Welker is survived by his mother and stepfather, Dona and Steve Hux of St. Louis, Mo.

Donald Tate - - 1933 - 2004

Donald B. Tate of Hotchkiss died on Sunday, July 3, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. He was 70.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 11, at 1 p.m. at Hotchkiss High School.

Mr. Tate was born on Aug. 29, 1933, in Beloit, Kan., to Charles and Viola Tate. He graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1951. He was active in boxing, football, track and basketball. He attended Western State College from 1951 to 1955.

He married Marilyn Bruce in 1955. The marriage ended in divorce.

Mr. Tate was a teacher and coach. He worked at Crawford, Hotchkiss and Delta. He coached every sport at every level. He continued to help with coaching basketball through last year's season. Teaching and coaching were his lifelong passion.

He was a member of the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807 and a past member of the Jaycees. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading the paper, cutting out sports articles to give to high school athletes, and meeting his friends every morning at Zack's Barbeque and discussing whichever sport was happening at the moment.

Mr. Tate is survived by a son and his wife, Larry and Kelly Tate of Colorado Springs; four daughters, Susan Hamrick of Hotchkiss, Nancy Rowley of Paonia, Carol Chartier and her husband Jeff of Green Mountain Falls, and Julie Claydon and her husband Brian of Gypsum; 12 grandchildren, Derrick Hamrick, Jason Hamrick, Brittany Rowley, Lamar Rowley, Ryan Rowley, Tabor Chartier, Victor Chartier, Tanner Tate, Makenna Tate, Taylor Claydon, Hannah Claydon and Laura Claydon; a sister, Patty Copeland of Bountiful, Utah; and four brothers, Chuck Tate of Meeker, Jimmie Tate of Old Hickory, Tenn., Richard Tate of Silverton, Ore., and Keith Tate of Martinez, Calif.

Mr. Tate was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Tate; a sister, Jeannie Mowers; and a son - in - law, Wayne Rowley.
