FARCUS, Joanna Lynn

Joanna LynnFARCUS died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in Longmont. She was 42.
Ms. Farcus was born April 29, 1963, in Elmhurst, Ill., to Louis B. 'Lou' and Marcia M. (Roberts) Farcus.
She graduated from Deerfield High School in 1981 and graduated from the University of Colorado in 1987 with a fine arts' degree in psychology. She came to Boulder County in 1981 from Elmhurst.
Ms. Farcus worked for Storage Tech from 1987 until her illness no longer allowed her to work. She then helped in caring for the elderly.
She was bipolar, and although she could not work, she was very caring and generous, giving things to those less unfortunate than herself.
Ms. Farcus is survived by her father of Elmhurst and her mother, Marcia Clark of Highland Park, Ill.; two sisters, Suzanne Farcus of North Aurora, Ill., and Ruthanne Clark-Kolb of Geneva, Ill.; and dearest friend, Arthur Chavez of Broomfield.
Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Memorial contributions can be made to The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
FOWLER, Mary Louise
March 4, 1916 - March 3, 2006
Mary LouiseFOWLER of Longmont died March 3, 2006, at Applewood Living Center. She was 89.
She was born March 4, 1916, in Denver to Otis and Mary (Welke) Lusby.
She graduated from South High School in 1934. She then graduated from Hockett School of Music with an associate's degree in music in 1936.
She married William G. Fowler, M.D. in 1942.
She taught piano and organ for 60 years and was the chapel organist at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center for 40 years, earning an achievement award from the Army upon her retirement. She was at Fitzsimmons when President Dwight Eisenhower was hospitalized there in 1955.
She was of the Presbyterian faith. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and dogs.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by a niece, Marybeth Leavell of Jonesboro, Ga.
Private family services and inurnment will take place. Cremation has been held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to Prevention PLUS and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street Longmont 80501.
Irene E. Garrett
August 27, 1909 - March 23, 2006
Irene E. Garrett of Longmont died Thursday, March 23, 2006. She was 96.
Mrs. Garrett was born Aug. 27, 1909. She was a resident of Longmont since 1951.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gordon Garrett; and her husband, William Howard Garrett.
Mrs. Garrett is survived by two children and their spouses, Garlyn and Cecelia Garrett and Karen and Bill Ciocchetti; six grandchildren, Shelley Davis, Cinnamon Garrett, Noelle Ciocchetti, Christopher Ciocchetti, Shannon Ciocchetti and Jaimee Hoppe; six great-grandchildren, Tony, Camron and Ryan Davis, and Gideon, Olivia and Ella Hoppe; and a great-great- granddaughter, Aspynn Davis.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at First Baptist Church, 701 Kimbark Ave., Longmont. The Rev. Gary Bowser will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Metro Denver, 501 S. Cherry St., Suite 700, Denver 80246-1328, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
GEARY, Gladys M.
Oct. 2, 1923 - March 22, 2006
Gladys M.GEARY died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Applewood Living Center surrounded by family and friends. She was 82.
She was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Crowell, Texas, to Thomas Andrew and Maud W. (Stovall) Baxter. Gladys was a very competent and independent woman. She was very accomplished in many areas, a business woman, great homemaker, cook and mother. She also was very generous in helping others.
Gladys married Richard Geary in November 1956. She was an antique show dealer, doing shows from California to Texas. She moved to Longmont in 1979, opened an antique shop in Lyons and was instrumental in starting the Lyons antique dealers association. She also had booths in Fort Collins and Greeley flea markets.
She joined the 'Hello Dollies' doll club in 1990. She was an avid doll collector and was very knowledgeable in dolls. She was a very active member and instrumental in getting the doll club to furnish three buildings in the child's world of Tiny Town, Colo.
In 1945, she gave birth to a 'Mongoloid' child with Down syndrome. She was told to institutionalize him, as he would never be able to sit up, feed himself or do anything. This made her mad; she knew people train dogs, so she knew she could 'train' this boy. She raised him and taught him to feed himself, dress himself, speak and understand much of what he was told. After several years at home, with no school facilities available at that time, she was forced to put him in an institution. They were amazed that he could speak and understand.
In the 1960s, she was an active member of the Albuquerque Association of Retarded Children. She implemented and ran a project to obtain a bus to transport the children. She got publicity and response from some eight states to collect 'gift stars' and DPI code labels to exchange for the bus. She received hundreds of letters addressed only to 'the retarded bus, Albuquerque, NM'; she exchanged 1.25 million coupons for the bus.
Her Down syndrome son died just before Christmas 2004 while in a group home in Albuquerque. Gladys had a stroke in July 2005 and slowly deteriorated, moving to Applewood in November.
She was preceded in death by a son, an infant daughter, her parents and six siblings.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Geary of Longmont; twin sons, Michael Geary and his wife Rose and Timothy Geary and his wife Patricia, both of Las Vegas; a brother, Charley Baxter of Kerrville, Texas; a sister, Rutha Shackelford of Dallas; six grandchildren, Ivette, Andrew, Matthew, Tessa, Nathan and Rachel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 31, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with David Bradshaw of LifeBridge Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. Friday at Shelter A, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver. Contributions can be made to ARCA Foundation and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Kathryn Elizabeth Kyner
July 11, 1916 - March 18, 2006
Kathryn Elizabeth Kyner of Boulder died Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties in Louisville.
Mrs. Kyner was born and grew up in rural Madison County, Iowa, to James Ira and Mattie Eleanor (Cochran) Tucker.
She graduated from Macksburg High School in Macksburg, Iowa, in 1934. She graduated from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, in 1937.
Mrs. Kyner taught primary grades at several school districts in Iowa.
She married Max Kyner on March 15, 1941, in Carrollton, Mo. In 1947, the family moved to Boulder, where she resided until her death. Mrs. Kyner was a homemaker and a volunteer for Boulder Community Hospital. She maintained a membership in PEO for more than 60 years. Her greatest joy was her three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her spouse; a brother, Dean Tucker; two sisters, Helen Walter and Eleanor Wickstrand; a niece, Sandy Walter; and a nephew, Jerry Walter.
Mrs. Kyner is survived by two sons, James David Kyner of Thornton and Charles Douglas and his wife Janice Kyner of Longmont; a grandson, Mark Kyner and his wife Jean of Longmont; a granddaughter, Lynne Wasinger and her husband John of Denver; a granddaughter, Michelle Kyner and her husband Scott Wasinger of Arvada; two sisters, Ruth Tucker of Winterset, Iowa, and Jean Greenwood of Des Moines, Iowa; three brothers, Keith Tucker of Winterset, Max Tucker of Macksburg, Iowa, and Blaine Tucker of Branson, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

MIKESELL Jr., William H. “Bill”
July 20, 1931 — March 21, 2006
William H. “Bill” MIKESELL Jr. of Longmont died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 74.
Mr. Mikesell was born July 20, 1931, in Wichita, Kan., to William H. and Patricia (Patterson) Mikesell.
He was a graduate of Kansas State University and a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.
Mr. Mikesell served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1958.
On June 6, 1954, he married JoAnn Mossey in Roswell, N.M.
Mr. Mikesell moved from New Mexico to Boulder in 1967, lived in Grand Junction from 1976 to 1987 and then moved to Longmont on Aug. 1, 1992.
He was a real estate developer in New Mexico from 1958 to 1967 and a construction project engineer at Rocky Flats from 1967 to 1972. In 1976, he purchased an engineering supply business in Grand Junction, operating it until 1987. Since 1987, he was semi-retired, working as a financial planner.
Mr. Mikesell was a member of Rotary International since 1974 and a member of Twin Peaks Rotary in Longmont. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and El Jebel Shrine.
He enjoyed woodworking and fly fishing. He will be remembered as a good man with pride and an amazing heart who was loved by his wife, family and friends.
Mr. Mikesell is survived by his wife of Longmont; two sons, Stephen J. Mikesell and his wife Cindy of Lyons and David William Mikesell and his wife Kim of Ramsey, Minn.; two daughters, Lisa Lee Fearer and her husband Steven of Longmont and Amy J. Mikesell of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Ritchie Mikesell of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and five grandchildren, Christopher, Aaron, Alex, Grant and Katie.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, at Central Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Glenn Perica will officiate. Interment will precede the service at 10 a.m. at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

PACE, Clifford James ‘Twisty’
July 18, 1918 — March 25, 2006
Clifford James ‘Twisty’PACE died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Applewood Living Center in Longmont. Mr. Pace was born July 18, 1918, in Skiatook, Okla., to John Wilson Pace and Emeline E. Barnes Pace and lived in Indian Territory. He graduated from Skiatook High School in 1938 and became a journeyman electrician.
Mr. Pace was drafted by the Army in 1944, had his basic training in Fort Sill, Okla., and became a staff sergeant affiliated with the 43rd U.S. Army Infantry and attached to 1st Cavalry Division. He served two years, eight months and 12 days on the front lines in the Philippines. He was shot twice at Luzon and received two Purple Hearts. He was also injured by shrapnel.
His decorations included: a Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter, Asiatic Pacific (two campaigns on Luzon and Leyte, helped in liberation of POWs at Manila), Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Presidential Citation, Infantry Combat Badge and Bronze Star as Squad Leader. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Mr. Pace met his wife, Marjorie S. Frye, in high school, where she was homecoming queen and he was football captain in the same year for the Skiatook “Bulldogs.” They rode in the same convertible in the homecoming parade. They were married in Oklahoma in 1938, and to this union a daughter, Kay, was born in 1939 on New Year’s Eve.
Clifford was employed by Colorado Central Power Co. in 1946, and “Reddi Kilowatt” was their symbol. Colorado Central Power sold to Public Service Company and is now Xcel Energy. Mr. Pace was employed 34 years at Johnstown-Milliken as district manager and trouble shooter. He became a widower in 1973, and after retiring in 1980, he married Margaret McGothlin in Johnstown. Margaret died in 1999.
Mr. Pace was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Windsor. He was a former president of Johnstown Rotary and Community Clubs; a Certified Red Cross instructor; a district Boy Scout troop leader; former fire chief at Johnstown in 1958, where he saved a small child who was hidden under a bed from a burning home; a member of the Elks Lodge in Loveland; and 1051 American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. As captain of the Skiatook Bulldogs Football Squad, he got the nickname “Twisty” when he would pull up his football pants by twisting, and the name stuck. Cliff was also a boxer and fought in the ring in Oklahoma.
His hobbies included golf, bowling, fishing, hunting and baseball.
Mr. Pace is preceded in death by his first wife Marjorie (1973); his second wife Margaret (1999); his parents; a brother, Earl; and three sisters, Myrtle Selvidge, May Maddox and Rhodilla Harlow. His 93-year-old sister, Laveata Kelley, is still living in Skiatook and was elected Lady Pioneer of the 100th Anniversary of Skiatook this year (2006).
He is survived by his daughter, Kay Westrum of Longmont; two grandchildren, Todd Scott of Johnstown and Andrea Kay Jennings of Fowler; and four great-grandchildren, Cody and Kristen Scott of Johnstown and Peter and Cherokee Jennings of Fowler. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, DeLoris Buran, and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Graveside inurnment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry, Okla. The Rev. Jack Basse will officiate. Military honors will be performed by VFW Post 9077 of Sperry. ROMSLAND, Linda J.
Dec. 14, 1941 - March 20, 2006
Linda J. ROMSLAND of Longmont died Monday, March 20, 2006, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 64.
Mrs. Romsland was born Dec. 14, 1941, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Richard and Margaret (Lounsbury) Wynn. She graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1960 and from Interstate Business College in 1962.
She married Ronald E. Romsland, June 7, 1963, in Fargo, N.D. They moved to Longmont in 2004 from Fargo.
Mrs. Romsland worked for the Fargo school district for 25 years, retiring in 2001. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Fargo and a member of the Teamsters Woman's Auxiliary in Fargo. The couple enjoyed traveling, spending time with children and grandchildren and painting.
Mrs. Romsland was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Arthur Wynn.
She is survived by her husband of Longmont; a son, Derek W. Romsland and his wife Charlene of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Julene M. Romsland of Fargo; a brother, Richard Wynn and his wife Cheryl of Minneapolis; a sister, Gail Zeman and her husband Earl of Longmont; and grandchildren, Chanel, Calvin, Ruby, Gunnar and Tug.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. A funeral service for Mrs. Romsland will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 24, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Thieme officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Caroline M. Shepherd
Oct. 10, 1918 - March 21, 2006
Caroline M. Shepherd of Boulder died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in Boulder. She was 87.
Mrs. Shepherd was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Fort Stockton, Texas, to Bernard and Grace (Hoover) Meyring.
She married Ollie Shepherd on July 3, 1938, in Boulder.
Mrs. Shepherd moved to Boulder in 1925. A homemaker, she enjoyed rose gardening, bowling and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton Meyring and Clyde Meyring.
Mrs. Shepherd is survived by her husband of Boulder; a son, Rodney Shepherd of Boulder; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Rachel Shepherd of Longmont; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

TILLMAN, Wayne B.
April 29, 1920 - March 23, 2006
Wayne B. TILLMAN of Longmont died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Applewood Living Center. He was 85.
Mr. Tillman was born April 29, 1920, in Midwest, Wyo., to Archie and Alta Cory (Beach) Tillman. He graduated from Midwest High School in 1939.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a part of the D-Day invasion.
On Aug. 15, 1954, Mr. Tillman married Thelma Bogue in New Castle, Wyo.
He lived in Wyoming and Nebraska until moving in 1975 to Colorado, where he lived in Cajon City, Evergreen and Golden. He moved to Sanders, Ariz., in 1985, and to Longmont in 2002.
Mr. Tillman was a rancher and an auto mechanic, working on many of the vehicles used in the construction of Interstate 40 in Arizona. Later, he sold Christian books and worked for the Christian Record Braille Foundation.
He was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church of Longmont, and he collected stamps, arrowheads and rocks. He enjoyed bird watching, hiking in the mountains and observing the stars in the night sky. He was involved with Native American culture in Arizona. He will be remembered as a man of integrity and honor.
Mr. Tillman was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of Longmont; a son, Bryan Tillman and his wife Diana of Longmont; two daughters, Sandra Barringer and her companion Ray Peck of Pueblo and Mary Wachsmann of Ooltewah, Tenn.; a sister, Laurel Chadwick and her husband Warren of Casper, Wyo.; a brother, Cleo Tillman and his companion Ruth Welch of Gunnison; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Family will be present to greet friends. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 27, at Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1712 Mountain View Ave., Longmont, with the Rev. Jerry Nowack officiating. Interment will take place at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
