JoAnn Strong of Boulder died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at HospiceCare Center of Boulder & Broomfield Counties in Louisville of natural causes. She was 66.
She was born March 1, 1938, in Fond du Lac, Wis., to Lawrence and Caroline L. (Oathout) Noll.
She was a resident of Boulder since 1953 when she moved here from Fond du Lac. She graduated from Boulder High School in 1956.
She married Richard W. Strong on April 13, 1957, in Boulder.
Mrs. Strong was formerly employed by the Harvest House in Boulder. Then she worked for the city of Boulder for twelve years, retiring in 1980.
She was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder.
Mrs. Strong was preceded in death by a son, Rick Strong in 1980; and her father.
She is survived by her husband of Boulder, a son, Ron Strong of Longmont; a daughter, Lisa Welsch of Berthoud; three sisters, Carol Jean Noll of Manassas, Va., Lorna M. Hamilton of Longmont and Lana M. Arbuthnot of Allens Park, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Kelly and Tyler Strong of Niwot.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Valmont Community Presbyterian Church, 3262 61st St. in Boulder. The Rev. Stephen Bird will officiate. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the church.

VOSS, Don R.
Oct. 26, 1912 - Jan. 6, 2005
Don R. Voss of Longmont died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 92.
He was born Oct. 26, 1912, in Davenport, Iowa, to Elna and William Voss. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1930. He then graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa in 1934. While in college, he was selected to Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi honorary fraternities.
On Jan. 22, 1938, he married Marion Dee Pollard. They were married for more than 66 years before she preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2004.
They moved to Indianapolis, where he took the position of plant engineer at the International Harvester Truck Engine Works. He was soon promoted to works manager, a position he held until he retired. After retirement, Mr. Voss was an industrial consultant for Wright, Porteous & Lowe Inc., an architectural firm in Indianapolis.
While in Indianapolis, Mr. Voss became an advocate for the Boys Clubs of America, giving generously in time and money. He served as chairman of the board of directors for several years.
After his second retirement, he and Marion moved to Aransas Pass, Texas, where they took up sailing. They were able to take several sailing trips to the Caribbean with friends. They also enjoyed the coastal towns availability of other water activities.
In 1984, they moved to Longmont to be closer to their family. They became members of the Boulder Roamers and traveled extensively with that group from the Boulder Senior Center. He also continued his community service delivering Meals On Wheels and serving on several community committees.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Adams and her husband Don; two grandchildren, Angie Banning and her husband Bob, and Scott Adams and his partner Mike Ziarnek; and two beloved great-grandchildren, Kendall and Lindsay Banning, all of Longmont.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at All Faiths Chapel in the Beatrice Hover Assisted Living Residence, 1380 Charles Drive, with Rev. Anne D. Kear of First Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Cremation will be held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

WEBB, Robert 'Bob', 57, Lyons, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at HospiceCare Center of Boulder and Broomfield Counties in Louisville. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel.
WEST, Cleo
Oct. 26, 1917 - Jan. 6, 2005
Cleo Jerome Overholt West died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Life Care Center of Longmont. She was 87.
She was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Alma, Colo., to George and Alice (Jerome) Overholt.
She married Harry Rudolph Swanson in 1936 and had two sons, Ben and Larry. She and Mr. Swanson later divorced. She married Tracy Red West on Oct. 22, 1949.
Mrs. West grew up in Park County. She raised her two sons in Bailey until 1957, when she and Mr. West moved to Lakewood. She worked for Mountain Bell in Bailey and Denver until she retired about 1971. At that time, Mr. and Mrs. West moved to Deming, N.M., where they owned and operated a travel trailer park.
Mrs. West continued running the park for two years after her husband died. She later sold the park and moved to Banning, Calif. In 1997, she moved to Longmont to be near her family.
After retiring and moving to Banning, Cleo learned to bowl and became an avid bowler. She was a member of the Qwest Pioneers, Longs Peak Life Member Club.
Mrs. West was preceded in death by her second husband, three brothers and her sisters.
She is survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
No services will be held. Mrs. West will be buried next to Mr. West in Denver. Her family wishes to express thanks to the Life Care Center staff for making her last years comfortable.
CRUZ, Robert Jacob
May 23, 1978 - April 1, 2005
Robert Jacob CRUZ of Frederick died Friday, April 1, 2005, in Fort Lupton. He was 26.
He was born May 23, 1978, to Robert and Eleanor (Bustamante) Cruz.
Mr. Cruz was a production assembler and a member of Heritage Christian Center. He enjoyed bowling, music, video games, fishing, basketball, football, shopping, movies, dining out and going to the mountains.
He is survived by his parents of Frederick; three sisters, Mary Helen Goodman, Angel M. Cruz and Melanie M. Warner; his grandparents, Fred and Mary Bustamante; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; a niece, Chantelle Bendzel; and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at LifeBridge Christian Church with the Rev. Dieter Skowron of Abundant Life Tabernacle in Johnstown officiating. GONZALEZ, Ramona “Mama”

Ramona “Mama” GONZALEZ of Longmont died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties Care Center in Louisville. She was 90.
She was born May 16, 1914, in Morovis, Puerto Rico, to Isaac and Aqueda (Colon) Vasquez.
She married Marcello Gonzalez in 1939 in New York City.
Mrs. Gonzalez was a practical nurse for McMahon Children’s Shelter in New York City, retiring in 1976. She came to Longmont in 1989 from New York.
A member of Spirit of Peace Catholic Community in Longmont, Mrs. Gonzalez was also active in many church organizations in New York.
Mrs. Gonzalez will be remembered as a giving and loving person who was attentive to her family. She enjoyed traveling, cooking in the Puerto Rican tradition and playing dominos.
She was preceded in death by her husband July 17, 1991; three brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Gonzalez is survived by a son, Marc Gonzalez of Bloomfield, N.J.; a daughter, Millie Mourino and her husband John of Longmont; two sisters, Cruz Maria Marrero and Estel Vasquez both of Puerto Rico; and six grandchildren, Jane Gonzalez and Jason Gonzalez both of New Jersey, David Mourino of Longmont, Danny Mourino of Denver, Maria Reseigh and her husband Jay of Denver and Marlena Mourino of Kansas City, Mo.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends. Rosary prayers will be said 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. BLACK, Keith E.
Oct. 29, 1966 - April 13, 2005
Keith E. BLACK of Longmont died at his home Wednesday, April 13, 2005. He was 38.
He was born Oct. 29, 1966, to Adrian 'Skip' and Tamara Ann (Mickelson) Black in Aurora. He grew up in Lakewood and graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1985 and attended the University of Northern Colorado from 1985 to 1987. He had lived in Longmont since 1987.
As a child, Mr. Black loved to spend time camping with his father and taking family vacations. He worked in retail sales, and began his working career at Kinney Shoes. He later worked into management for Pet City. He loved working with people and pets. He owned the Pet City in Twin Peaks Mall from 1990 to 1997. He especially enjoyed watching children smile as they adopted their pets. He began working at Big Jon's Auto Sales in 1997 and then at Longmont Auto Sales and Essex Motors.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Black is survived by a daughter, Caitlin Nicole Black, 9, of Longmont; two sons, Nicholas Michael Black, 4, of Longmont and Beaus Allen of Denver; two brothers, Steve Black and his wife Mindy of Westminster and Jeffrey Black of Lakewood; and nephew, Payton and niece, Kalea Black, both of Westminster.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in the South Gathering Area at Howe Mortuary.

BOOP, J. Fred
Nov. 7, 1920 - April 21, 2005
J. Fred BOOP of Longmont died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Longmont United Hospital after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's Disease. He was 84 years old.
Born Nov. 7, 1920, in Lima, Ohio, to J. Fred Sr. and Florence (Staup) Boop, he grew up and attended schools in Lima, graduating from Lima Central High School in 1939. He went on to study electrical engineering at Bowling Green and Ohio State. During World War II he worked for the war department in Ann Arbor, Mich.
On June 4, 1944, Fred married Mary Ellen Bidwell in Lima. The couple moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in 1956. Fred started working for IBM in 1951 and would spend 32 years with the company, retiring in 1983. He had a passion for sailing, loved to fish and travel as well as R.V. time with his wife and friends. Fred was a former member of the Elks and Masons. He had lived in Longmont since 2001. Fred will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and love of family.
He is survived by his wife; his daughters, Judy and her husband Tom Kelly of Oklahoma, Jane and her husband Rob Gilmore of Longmont and Kaye and her husband Al Griffin of Longmont; grandchildren, Brent, Todd, Chad, Tracy, Josh, and Casey; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Pat Stoddard of Ramona, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Boop; and sister, Barbara Bergdall.
His family will hold a private celebration of Fred's life. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary - Longmont.

BURNS, Jack L., 70, of Longmont died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary.
CANADAY, Harold E.
May 18, 1937 - April 21, 2005
Harold E. CANADAY of Longmont died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 67.
He was born May 18, 1937 in Johnston City, Ill., to Archie and Nellie (Chunn) Canaday. The family moved to Colorado when he was a child. Mr. Canaday grew up and attended school in Erie, graduating from Erie High School in 1956. After high school Harold joined the U.S. Army and served from 1956 to 1958. During his service he spent 18 months on deployment to Germany.
On Oct. 28, 1956, Mr Canaday married Connie R. Kniss in Frederick.
Mr. Canaday began work as a meat cutter in 1962 for Safeway, where he worked until his retirement in 1987. He moved to Longmont in 1991 and was active at the Longmont Senior Center, involved with its carving and low vision groups.
Mr. Canady was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Carmical.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard Canaday of Longmont; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Bryon McCafferty of Amarillo, Texas; a granddaughter, Kaley McCafferty; a brother, Robert Canaday of Lafayette; a sister, Ruth and her husband Jack Seloover of Erie; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cat, Ace.
Visitation hours are scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Howe Mortuary, the Rev. David Kenney officiating. Interment will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory in Longmont. Memorials are suggested to the Longmont Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
George James Cessna
George James Cessna of Boulder died of natural causes Sunday, April 17, 2005, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties in Louisville. He was 97.
The son of Roy and Gertrude Cessna, he was born June 23, 1907, in Cessna Township, Kenton, Ohio.
He married Margueritte Louise Pennington on June 15, 1930, at the United Brethren Church in Longmont.
Mr. Cessna attended Longmont schools but left early to become a baker and to help support his family. During his working life he owned and operated bakeries in Longmont, Fairplay, Windsor and Boulder. In 1949, he and his brother-in-law, Warren Pennington, bought the Boulder City Bakery. He baked for the University of Colorado in the last 10 years before his retirement.
He was committed to his family, his work and his church. He served as an usher at First Methodist Church for 50 years. He enjoyed CU football, traveling, fishing, nature and hiking. He climbed Longs Peak when he was 80. He will be remembered for his integrity, honesty, quiet sense of humor, hospitality, perseverance and generosity.
Mr. Cessna was preceded in death by his wife; and three sisters, Kathryn, Rachel and Isabelle.
He is survived by a son, Jim Cessna and his wife Carolyn of Boulder; a daughter, Maryann Murray of Woodland, Calif.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Pennington; and 13 nieces and nephews, a baker's dozen.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at the First Methodist Church, 14th and Spruce, Boulder. A reception will follow at Mr. Cessna's home in Boulder.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Cessna's name to the First Methodist Church of Boulder or Boulder County Hospice.
D’ADDARIO, Carol
May 20, 1922 — April 19, 2005
Carol D’ADDARIO of Longmont died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at her home. She was 82.
She was born May 20, 1922, in Orange, N.J., to Frank and Dorothy (Dombroy) Robbins.
She married Ernest D’Addario on April 26, 1942.
Mrs. D’Addario served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II from 1943 to 1946, achieving the rank of chief petty officer.
She worked as a freelance certified shorthand reporter in New Jersey and Colorado from 1963 until her retirement in 1989.
She moved to Colorado from New Jersey in 1977 to be closer to her grandchildren.
A member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mrs. D’Addario volunteered in the parish office and was a member of a Bible study group. She also was a volunteer at the OUR Center from 1989 to 2003, contributing more than 3, 000 hours of service to the organization.
She enjoyed time with her family and her dogs and doing volunteer work.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984; a brother; and a sister.
She is survived by two sons, Larry D’Addario and his wife Candace of Pasadena, Calif., and Peter D’Addario and his wife Cathy of Lafayette; a daughter, Barbara Dempsey and her husband Jack of Loveland; seven grandchildren, Dawn Bornitz and her husband Nathan, Nicole Dempsey and her partner Nick Mezzei, Tara Dempsey, and Alicia, Matthew, Annalisa and Peter Robert D’Addario.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with family present to greet friends. A memorial gathering will follow at 7 p.m. Sunday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Immaculate Heart of Mary Adoration Chapel, 323 Collyer St., Longmont, with the Rev. Brian Morrow as celebrant.
Interment will take place at noon Tuesday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area B in Denver.
