HEIBEIN, George Henry
Jan. 4, 1915 - Sept. 24, 2004
George Henry Heibein of Longmont died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 89.
He was born Jan. 4, 1915, in Ann Arbor, Mich., to Henry and Christina (Roth) Heibein.
Mr. Heibein graduated in 1937 from the University of Michigan with a degree in forestry. He served a 33 month tour of duty with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Philippines during World War II.
He married Ruby Lee Doodle Shaw on Feb. 22, 1941, in Russellville, Ark.
His career began with the Creosoting Division of the Long Bell Lumber Company in Shreveport, La. The plant was moved to Joplin, Mo., in 1937, and he was involved with the Arkansas Timber Procurement. After World War II, he returned to Joplin where he opened the Joplin sales office for Long Bell Lumber Co. In 1955, he transferred to the lumber and plywood sales division of the company, where he was a wholesale wood products salesman, continuing to work, retiring in 1977. He also worked with his wife in their cake decorating business for 38 years.
He was a co-organizer of the Cub Scout baseball league and served on the board of Big Brothers. He was a lifetime member of the Joplin Historical Society, serving on their board for many years and receiving their Rex Plumb Award in 1990. He was also an Elder of First Presbyterian Church in Joplin, where he was a charter member of their Westminster Class and active in Presbytery and Synod for many years. He was a member of Westview Presbyterian Church in Longmont.
He moved to Longmont in 1996 from Joplin.
He loved to cook and was very talented in woodworking. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Esther Davis; and a nephew, the Rev. Kenneth Davis.
He is survived by his wife of Longmont; a son, Harry Parmer Heibein and his wife Wanda; two grandchildren, Wayne Heibein and his wife Eun-Jung of Silverthorne, and Marsha Ruscitti and her husband Fabio of Longmont; and a nephew, Richard Davis and his wife Mary Sue.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Westview Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bruce McQueen officiating. Interment will be at Foothills Gardens of Memory.

HIGGINS, Dr. William J.
Nov. 3, 1925 - Sept. 28, 2004
Dr. William J. Higgins, an avid sportsman and loving father of six daughters, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at the age of 78, in Longmont. He was formerly of Lincoln, Neb.
He was born Nov. 3, 1925, in Columbus, Neb., to Willis J. and Vivian Higgins.
Bill was an active member of the AA fellowship for 27 years. Bill was an optometrist who practiced in Tecumseh, Neb., from 1949 to 1957, and in Lincoln from 1957 to 1987. He was a past president of the Nebraska Optometric Association and also held many other offices within the association. He was honored with Optometrist of the Year in 1967 and 1980. He served on the North Central and Heart of America Optometric Boards, was a nine year member of the Nebraska State Board of Health and served three years as chairman. He served under Governors Tiemann, Exon and Thone, being appointed by Governor Tiemann to head a study group of Professionals to revamp the treatment of retarded citizens. He was also the board chairman and director of Valley Hope in Lincoln and Lancaster Council on Alcoholism. He was past area governor for Toastmasters International, a 55-year member of the American Legion and Past Commander of Post No. 2.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lillian; a daughter, Joy; his parents; and a brother, Charles.
He is survived by five daughters, Nancy A. Higgins and her husband Randy Warner of Boulder, Karen S. Tinius and her husband Mark Tinius of Longmont, Jill Higgins Murphy and her husband Patrick T. Murphy of Broomfield, Kim K. Higgins of Boulder and Jan Higgins Gray and her husband Mike Gray of Longmont; 12 grandchildren, Corey, Ben, Kellie, Flynn, Maureen, Conor, Patrick, Amy, Katie, Chelsea, Willow and Sierra; a great-granddaughter, Sage; two brothers, James Higgins and his wife Carol of Loveland and Tom Higgins and his wife Barbara of Spirit Lake, Iowa; three sisters, Betty Driml and her husband Bob of Omaha, Neb., Margaret Roddy of Bellevue, Neb. and Shirley Higgins of Gretna, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
Rosary prayers will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Friends and family members will gather in Benedict Hall following the rosary. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Lincoln, Neb. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Lincoln. Butherus-Love Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements in Lincoln.

JELNIKER, George J.
Sept. 25, 1930 - Sept. 28, 2004
George J. Jelniker of Longmont died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at his home of complications of ALS. He was 74.
He was born Sept. 25, 1930, in Greeley to George Henry and Anna (Skrbina) Jelniker.
He graduated from North High School in Denver in 1949. He then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Engineering and obtained his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1954. He graduated in the top 20 percent of his class.
He then served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He worked as an aerospace engineer during the height of the space race at Hughes Aircraft and TRW. In 1957, George invented the Intercable Ibmization for Hughes Aircraft, which was instrumental in allowing computers to talk to one another, leading to further advances in the manned space program during both the Gemini and Apollo programs. He was also selected to open the Houston office of Hughes Aircraft Co. in 1962. It is now the largest Hughes office in the country. Georges career in aerospace took him to Houston, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
While living in Washington, D.C., Mr. Jelniker got his commercial real estate license and enjoyed great success in that field.
In 1976, he had the opportunity to return to his native Colorado and buy his cousins construction company, renaming Phil Skrbina Construction to Colorado Construction and Concrete. His construction company finished what Skrbina had started in developing the Fox Hill Subdivision and Fox Hill Country Club. The company also did all the concrete work for the Boulder County Fairgrounds, as well as countless improvement projects in Longmont, in Loveland, in Boulder and on the University of Colorado campus.
Mr. Jelniker was an enthusiastic supporter of CU and was a board member of the University of Colorado Directors Club, an alumni support organization. He was also an active member of the Longmont Rotary Club and Central Presbyterian Church.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, his friends, his family and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Jelniker is survived by his wife Barbara of Longmont; three sons, Greg Jelniker of Amsterdam, Holland, Jeff Jelniker and his wife Laura of San Mateo, Calif., and Mitch Jelniker and his wife Kelly of Highlands Ranch; four grandchildren, Ryan, Brooke, David and Ava; numerous cousins; and his beloved Aunt Babe Jelniker.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Central Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Glenn Perica officiating. Cremation will follow services at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Private inurnment will take place at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

KOJANCIC, Myron Anthony Christopher
June 6, 1940 - Sept. 26, 2004
Myron Anthony Mick Kocjancic of Niwot died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 64.
He was born June 6, 1940, in Cleveland, to Mr. and Mrs. Kocjancic.
Mr. Kocjancic served in the U.S. National Guard.
He married Carole Rohnak on Dec. 23, 1965, in Boulder. He moved to Niwot from Fort Collins in 1976.
Mr. Kocjancic was an entrepreneur in financing and also worked for the Boulder Valley School District for the past eight years.
He was a member of City on the Hill Church in Boulder, where he volunteered in church ministries.
Mr. Kocjancic enjoyed fishing, motorcycles and restoring vintage cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis Kopec.
He is survived by his wife of Tampa, Fla.; five sons, Keith Kocjancic and his wife Lori of Florida, Anthony Kocjancic and his wife Tracy of Florida, Greg Kocjancic and his wife Jennifer of Geneva, Ohio, Scott Kocjancic and his wife Christy of Longmont, and Brian Kocjancic and his wife Julie of Longmont; a sister, Delores Costello of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandsons; and two granddaughters.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at City on the Hill Church, 7483 Arapahoe Ave. in Boulder, with the Rev. Jimmy Ratzlaff of the church officiating. Cremation will be handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

MAGNIE, Mary Alice
March 14, 1924 - Sept. 23, 2004
Mary Alice Magnie of Arvada, formerly of Longmont, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Cedars Health Care Center in Lakewood. She was 80.
She was born March 14, 1924, in Denver, to Roy and Cecilia (Byers) Stuart.
She attended East Denver schools and graduated from Manual High School in 1941.
She married Harry Magnie June 1, 1941, in Denver.
Mrs. Magnie worked for Denver General Hospital for 31 years as an administrator for many departments of the hospital, receiving many honors and commendations for her work. She retired in 1985.
She moved to Longmont in 1994 from Denver. She then moved to Arvada, where she was living at the time of her death.
Mrs. Magnie was of the Protestant faith.
She loved gardening, and will be remembered for her beautiful flowers. She liked to grow orchids particularly and her husband built her a greenhouse. She joined the Denver Orchid Society and was the president of the club in 1982. She enjoyed orchid shows and was very active in them. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, seeing many places in the world after joining Ports of Call Travel Club in 1977.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Carolyn Applegate and Vicki Clabaugh; a brother, James Stuart; a sister, Kathleen Eastman and her husband Orville; five grandchildren, Amy, Anne, Lizabeth, Caroline and McAlister; and a great-grandson, Jackson.
Graveside inurnment service will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at Ryssby Cemetery. Cremation was held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

MANN, Edwina M.

Edwina M. Mann of Arvada died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Saint Anthony Central Hospital in Denver of natural causes. She was 85.
She was born July 5, 1919, in Longmont. She lived in Springfield, Colo., from December 1955 until 2002, when she moved to Arvada.
She married Herbert O. Mann on Dec. 31, 1941, in Longmont at the Rinn United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Mann was a 4-H leader for 45 years, a Sunday school teacher, church volunteer and member of The Club of the Year, in Springfield. She was an avid learner, loved to garden and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by a son, Warren K. Mann in 1954; and a sister, Lois Borgmann on Sept. 18, 2003.
Mrs. Mann is survived by her husband of Arvada; three daughters, June Todd and her husband Darryl of Broomfield, Jeanine Y. Hall and her husband Michael of Wildwood, Mo., and Carolyn Stuart and her husband Gregory of Aurora, Ind.; three sons, H. Allan Mann and his wife Dara of Bloomington, Minn., John A. Mann and his wife Kathie of Friendswood, Texas, and Wayne Mann and his wife Brenda of Johnson City, Tenn.; two brothers, Russell Borgmann of Fort Worth, Texas, and Howard Borgmann of Broomfield; three sisters, Ruth Johnston of Erie, Shirley Myers of Center, Colo., and Martha Hopp of Longmont; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at Rinn United Methodist Church, 3783 Weld County Road 20 in Longmont. Viewing will begin at noon preceding the service. A second funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 1, at Springfield United Methodist Church in Springfield.

MORGAN, Edna Mae

Edna Mae Morgan, formerly of Longmont, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Legacy Hospice House in Ocala, Fla. She was 84.
She was born April 8, 1920, in Greenville, S.C., to James Barksdale and Rosalie (Hendricks) Childs.
Mrs. Morgan was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Roy Morgan; a son, Roy A. Tony Morgan of Highlands Ranch; a daughter, Pamela M. Callaway of Dunnellon, Fla.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Arrangements are being handled by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, TimberRidge Chapel, 9695 SW 110th St., in Ocala.
PATTON, Darlene Lois
Nov. 17, 1932 - Sept. 29, 2004
Darlene Lois Patton of Longmont died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Applewood Living Center. She was 71.
She was born Nov. 17, 1932, in Harvard, Neb., to Lester Charles Trautman and Evelyn Irene (Evans) Trautman. She grew up in Nebraska and attended McCook High School in McCook, Neb. In 1953, she moved to Longmont with her family.
She married Edward L. Patton on Aug. 5, 1951, in Oberlin, Kan. Her husband joined the U.S. Air Force one year later, and together they had 20 years of military service. They later embarked on a career of over-the-road truck driving.
Mrs. Patton later entered the field of electronics as an assembler with many local companies, including Gould Filter Co., Samsonite, Lange Ski and Sherwood Enterprises.
She was an avid reader and read a couple of books a week during her later years. She enjoyed watching sports on television and actively followed all the local Colorado professional and collegiate teams.
She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Kenneth L. Patton; a sister-in-law, Patricia Patton Parham; a brother, Norman Trautman; and a son-in-law, Brian Kennedy.
Mrs. Patton is survived by her husband of Longmont; her mother of Hendley, Neb.; a son, Edward Patton Jr. and his wife Phyllis of Grand Junction; two daughters, Kathy Arthur and her husband Ed of Longmont, and Cindy Kennedy of Frederick; two brothers, Marlin Trautman and his wife Verdina of Plainview, Neb., and Garry Trautman and his wife Maxine of Longmont; two sisters, Dee Dunston and her husband Ray of Cadott, Wis., and Ruth Trautman of Hendley; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Foothills Gardens of Memory, with David Bradshaw officiating. Cremation is being handled by Howe Mortuary and Crematory, Longmont.

REUTH, Carl W.
Jan. 2, 1944 - Sept. 27, 2004
Carl W. Reuth of Longmont died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at the HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties Care Center in Louisville. He was 60.
He was born Jan. 2, 1944, in Denver to Rudy and Ann (Christ) Reuth. He was raised in Longmont by his aunt and uncle, Mabel and Ward Burrett.
He married Mary Jo Dill on April 20, 1963, in Longmont.
Mr. Reuth had a lengthy career as a truck driver. He began driving for Flatiron Paving in Longmont, later working as an independent owner and operator for Longmont Foods and finishing his career with DeQuasie Trucking.
He enjoyed big trucks and hot rods, including building, showing and racing them.
Mr. Reuth is survived by his wife Mary Jo of Longmont; two daughters, Karla Sanders of Mesa, Ariz., and Cathy Lewerke of Evans; five grandchildren, Devin DeQuasie, Logan and Shjonie Sanders, and Catheria and Mickaylin Lewerke; and two stepgrandchildren, Tory and Alexx Beyer.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
