LAGUNAS, Mary

Jan. 18, 1921 - Aug. 6, 2004

Mary Muniz Bernal Lagunas of Longmont died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Boulder Community Hospital. She was 83.

Mrs. Lagunas was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Emory Gap, N.M., to Simon Muniz and Pauline Salazar. She grew up in Starkville, Colo., and moved to Longmont in 1936.

She married Antonio M. Bernal in 1936 in Branson, Colo. They later divorced. She married Catarino Lagunas on May 22, 1969, in Longmont.

Mrs. Lagunas worked for more than 50 years as a housekeeper in the Longmont area. She also enjoyed dancing, cooking at the John Harold Buckley American Legion Post 32 in Longmont, and tending to her flower gardens. She was very involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Lagunas was preceded in death by her husband, Catarino, in 2002; a brother, Felix Muniz; and two sons, Edward and Franklin Bernal.

She is survived by a son, Jerry Bernal of Longmont; a daughter, Corrine Arseneau of Longmont; a brother, Alvino Muniz and his wife Elaine of Commerce City; her former husband, Antonio Bernal of Longmont; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and her very dear poodle, Casey.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Howe Mortuary, Longmont with interment to follow in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Deacon Mike Berens will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the Mary Lagunas Memorial Fund in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont 80501.

MARTINEZ, Bruno

May 26, 1955 - Aug. 5, 2004

Bruno Martinez of Longmont died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 49.

Mr. Martinez was born May 26, 1955, to Lee Roy and Martha O. (Najera) Martinez. He grew up and attended schools in Longmont.

He was a handyman who was able to do many different kinds of work. He worked for a landscaping business and was a carpenter and a painter. For most of his working years, Mr. Martinez lived and worked in Nederland and Boulder. He enjoyed camping, fishing and having fun with his friends.

Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Martin Martinez.

He is survived by his mother of Longmont; two brothers, Theodore Martinez and his wife Lynn of Longmont, and Steve Martinez of Pueblo; two sisters, Deborah Sanderson and her husband Douglas of Longmont, and Christine Martinez and her husband Kenneth Castillo of Harrisburg, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at at Barker Reservoir in Nederland. A reception will follow at the First Street Bar and Grill in Nederland.

Cremation will be handled by Howe Mortuary of Longmont.

MCAFEE, George M.

Jan. 6, 1911 - April 12, 2004

George M. McAfee of Paonia, Colo., died April 12, 2004, at the Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was 93.

Mr. McAfee was born Jan. 6, 1911, in Longmont to John and Pearl (Potter) McAfee.

He spent his childhood in Erie and attended schools there.

Mr. McAfee married Viola Lehto on Feb. 13, 1933, in Estes Park. He moved to Klamath Falls, Ore., in 1979 and was a member of the Labors Union Local No. 320 in Portland. He returned to Paonia in 1999.

Mr. McAfees interests included ranching, fishing, gardening and horses.

He was preceded in death by his wife on March 17, 1979, in Oregon City; a son, Robert Wayne McAfee; a sister, Myria McMillan; two brothers, Max and Walter McAfee; and a grandson, Harlan Lee Pitts.

He is survived by three daughters, Lucille Buhr and her husband John of Paonia, Patricia Pitts of Paonia and Karen Cottrell and her husband Larry of Klamath Falls, Ore.; two sons, George K. McAfee and his wife Diana of Santa Maria, Calif., and Keith McAfee and his wife Kay of Oceanside, Calif; a sister, Netta McKeehan of Erie; a brother, Wayne McAfee and his wife Thelma of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Rose McAfee of Erie; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Lions Club Hall in Erie. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

MOORE, Orclea Laurene

April 7, 1919 - Aug. 5, 2004

Orclea Laurene Moore of Longmont, formerly of Grand Junction, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at the Life Care Center of Longmont. She was 85.

Mrs. Moore was born April 7, 1919, to Orville and Sarah (Heatherington) Simpson in Morrison, Okla. She grew up and attended schools in the Morrison area.

She married Robert Joseph Moore on Aug. 14, 1938, in Oklahoma. The couple moved to Grand Junction in 1946.

Mrs. Moore known as Rusty to family and friends enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, boating and fishing with her family. She also was a seamstress and oil painter. She was involved in Scouting with her children, local garden clubs and a social sorority.

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 7, 1985; and a sister, Maxine Stanley.

She is survived by a son, Larry Moore and his wife Rosalie of Denver; two daughters, Nancy Silvers of Northglenn, and Linda Hammond and her husband Don of Longmont; a sister, Roxie Edwards of Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A private family remembrance will be held later. Cremation will be handled by Howe Mortuary in Longmont.

MORRIS, Mildred Jennings

Jan. 18, 1919 - July 25, 2004

Mildred Jennings Morris of Fort Collins died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Columbine Care Center East. She was 85.

Mrs. Morris was born Jan. 18, 1919, to Roy W. and Alma (Kimmey) Jennings, in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Van Meter High School and Capital City Commercial College.

She married William Noyes Morris on March 28, 1942, in Van Meter, Iowa. They lived in Van Meter and Waukee, Iowa, before moving to Boulder and later to Longmont.

Mrs. Morris was a bookkeeper and secretary for many companies, including the Farmers Co-op, Melody Homes and the Methodist Church. She retired in 1985.

After her husband died in 1986, she lived in Ames, Iowa; West Lafayette, Ind.; and Akron, Ohio, to be near her family. In 2001, Mrs. Morris moved to Fort Collins to be closer to her daughter.

Mrs. Morris was involved in 4-H, Eastern Star, White Shrine, and the Methodist Church. She will be remembered for teaching her family to serve others and to do a quality job in everything they did.

Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter; an infant brother, Robert Jennings; and two sisters, Alice Jennings and Helen Rodgers.

She is survived by a daughter, Margie Caswell and her husband Larry of Red Feather Lakes; a son, Rob Morris and his wife Jennifer of Flower Mound, Texas; three sisters, Ardith Mick of Story City, Iowa, Ruth Lanning Peck of Des Moines and Kay Probst of Elburn, Ill; four grandchildren, Leigh Caswell Mason, Noelle Caswell, Jerod Morris and Joshua Mason; a great-grandson, Arthur Mason; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the United Methodist Church in Waukee. A luncheon will follow.

Inurnment will be at the Van Meter Cemetery.

OUTLER, Bessie C.

Oct. 19, 1908 - Aug. 3, 2004

Bessie C. Outler died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the Hospice Care Center at McKee in Loveland. She was 95.

Mrs. Outler was born Oct. 19, 1908, in Mankato, Kan., to John and Pearl (Fordham) Johnson.

She married Herman E. Gene Outler on Oct. 5, 1925, in Mankato.

She spent most of her life in Kansas before moving to Colorado in 1997. She made her home at the Residence at Oakridge in Fort Collins for the two years before her death.

Mrs. Outler was preceded in death by her husband on July 26, 1999; a son, Lee Outler; a granddaughter, Julie Johannes; and a great-grandson, Nathan.

She is survived by a son, Ray Outler and his wife Barbara of Loveland; a daughter, Ruth Rogers and her husband Norman of Abiline, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Emiko Outler of Chicago; a brother, Jess Johnson and his wife Irma of Washington, Kan.; a sister, Bonnie Hedden and her husband John of Udall, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Foothills Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Eric Mowen of Gateway Baptist Church officiating.

PALEO, Pauline

Sept. 9, 1940 - July 22, 2004

Pauline Paleo of Los Angeles died Thursday, July 22, 2004, of cancer. She was 63.

Mrs. Paleo was born Sept. 9, 1940, in Denver to Sam and Ernistine (Dominguez Lujan) Guillen.

In 1957, she married Robert Paleo, formerly of Lafayette, in Los Angeles.

A housewife and mother, Mrs. Paleo enjoyed music, reading, socializing and going to church. She was a member of the San Francisco Catholic Church in Los Angeles.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rebecca Guillen of Erie.

Mrs. Paleo is survived by her husband; two sons, Mike Paleo and Daniel Paleo and his wife Sandra; two brothers, Albert Guillen of Denver and Vincent Guillen of Tucumcari, N.M.; three sisters, Delores Pacheco of Moriarty, N.M., Judy Gonzales of Culver City, Calif., and Marie Abeyta of Longmont; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three aunts, Sophie Sandavol of Tucumcari, Erse Katich of Erie and Virginia Rodriguez and her husband Manuel of Erie; and an uncle, Pete Dominguez and his wife Flo of Denver.

Funeral services were handled by East Olympic Funeral Home in Los Angeles.

Inurnment will be handled by Erie Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Erie.

PEDIGO, Joyce L.

Oct. 22, 1923 - Aug. 5, 2004

Joyce Lorraine Pedigo was born Oct. 22, 1923, in the small town of Walden, Colo., to Essie Vera (Higdon) Hankins and Franklin William Hankins II.

She moved to Longmont at the age of 16 and worked for her mother at Essies Drive-In.

Early in the summer of 1942, she met her soulmate, Leland Alfred Pedigo. Her love was so strong, she hopped on a train and went on a long journey to Victoria, Va., to marry Leland before he shipped out to Africa at the onset of World War II.

Joyce and Leland were married on Oct. 18, 1942. Their honeymoon was short-lived, however, as Leland shipped out on Nov. 19, 1942. Leland returned in 1944 and their family grew. Joyce and Leland had three daughters.

Joyce so loved her family and was blessed that all were present to say farewell on Aug. 5, 2004.

She is survived by three daughters, Vicky Lee Rumley, her husband, Bert, grandson David L. Rumley and his wife, Sherry, and great-grandson, Zachary; Teresa Ann Pedigo, grandson Chad and his wife, Elizabeth, and great grandson Owen; Kathleen Joy Pedigo, granddaughter Sunday Joy Hoke and grandson Blake Aaron Pedigo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, W.F. Hankins III.

Joyce dearly loved and blessed her family with her love and kindness. She will be remembered for her compassion, sense of humor and unconditional love for her family.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Foothills Gardens of Memory, Longmont. Arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary, Longmont.

The family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimers Association, Rocky Mountain Chapter, 789 Sherman St., Suite 500, Denver, CO 80203-3532, and the American Heart Association, 1280 S. Parker Road, Denver, CO 80231.

SELBY, Mary

June 16, 1914 - Aug. 2, 2004

Mary Selby of Longmont died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, of natural causes at her home. She was 90.

She was born June 16, 1914, in Sugar City, Colo., to Heinrich and Katherina (Schwab) Eichman.

Mrs. Selby was a high school graduate. She worked in food service at the U. S. Army Air Force Exchange in Colorado Springs.

She married Leroy Harold Selby in 1942 in Colorado Springs.

Mrs. Selby moved from Colorado Springs to Longmont in 1981. She was a member of Our Saviors Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont and a former member of Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs.

Her hobbies included sewing and quilting. She will be remembered for her wide smile, her laughter and especially her generosity and self-sufficiency.

Mrs. Selby was preceded in death by her husband in 1969.

She is survived by two sons, Roland Herman Rollie Selby of Longmont and Emerson Leroy Selby of Phoenix; two brothers, Herbert Eichman and Harold Eichman, both of Rush, Colo.; a sister, Clara Doran of Dukedom, Ky.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation and graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 3825 Airport Road in Colorado Springs. The Rev. Michael Traudt will officiate.

A reception will be held at the Satellite Hotel, directly across from the cemetery chapel, for family and friends following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.

WIMMER, Garrett Jamison

WIMMER, Garrett Jamison, infant son of Trent and Lindsey Wimmer of Longmont, was born on July 31, 2004, in Loveland. While he was with us for only a short time, he will live on forever in the hearts of his parents and family: grandparents, Kent and Ruth Wimmer of Centennial, Steve and Shauna Libsack of Savage, Minneapolis, Minn.; his great grandmothers, Eleanor Libsack of Minatare, Neb., Marilyn Wimmer of Bayard, Neb., and Kathryn Schmidt of Sidney, Neb. A private service was held at Allnutt Funeral Chapel in Loveland on Aug. 3. Arrangements with Allnutt Funeral Service, 2100 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland 80538. (970) 667-1121.
