SCHOONOVER, Donald Dean

June 22, 1928 - Aug. 1, 2004

Donald Dean Schoonover of Longmon, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the Life Care Center. He was 76.

Mr. Schoonover was born June 22, 1928, in Minneola, Kan., to Albert and Thelma (Batman) Schoonover.

He grew up in Coolidge, Kan., and went to school in Hugo, Colo., where he graduated from high school.

He married Bessie Guy on Feb. 26, 1949, in Hugo. The family lived in Broomfield for 30 years before moving to Longmont in 1991. Donald owned and operated Intermountain Lighting Company in Westminster for many years.

Donald enjoyed playing golf. He liked traveling to many different places, especially where he would be able to play golf.

Mr. Schoonover was preceded in death by a son, Michael Schoonover; two brothers, Charles and Dale Schoonover; and a sister, Mary Ruth Hartshorn.

He is survived by his wife; his stepmother, Mary Schoonover of Hugo; a daughter, Janet Mouser and her husband Eugene of Olathe, Kan.; a sister, Verna Long and her husband Richard of Ulysses, Kan.; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Stephen, Kris, Sarah, and Ginny.

No services are scheduled for Mr. Schoonover.

Cremation arrangements have handled at the Howe Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be given to The Alzheimers Association, 789 Sherman St., Suite 500, Denver 80203, or to a favorite charity of choice.

SHUEY, William H.

SHUEY, William H., of Northglenn died. Husband of Dottie; father of David Shuey and his wife, Denae; brother of Jackie Brady and her husband, Joe. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial service at 11 a.m., August 2, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant St., Thornton. Memorial contributions to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Suite A, Lafayette, CO 80026, or to the American Cancer Society, 2255 S. Oneida St., Denver, CO 80224.

SWENSON, Ruth E.

Jan. 4, 1919 - July 29, 2004

Ruth E. Swenson of Boulder died of natural causes Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the HospiceCare Center of Louisville. She was 85.

Mrs. Swenson was born Jan. 4, 1919, in Hazleton, Pa., to Elit and Margaret (Chamberlain) Henry.

She married Lowell E. Swenson in October 1941 in Hazleton.

Mrs. Swenson graduated from the Iowa State School of Nursing in Iowa City, Iowa.

She had been a resident of Boulder since May, 2003, after moving from Colorado Springs, where she had lived for 10 years. She also lived in Glenwood Springs from 1975 to 1991.

Mrs. Swenson was a homemaker and a registered nurse. Her interests included American Indians and swimming.

Mrs. Swenson was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; and a brother, Jim Henry.

She is survived by two sons, Dan Swenson of Longmont and Lee Swenson of Orem, Utah; a daughter, Joan DeJong of Colorado Springs; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Vinelife Community Church, 7845 Lookout Road, Longmont.

BALLARD, Donald R.

Aug. 20, 1935 - Aug. 4, 2004

Donald R. Ballard of Longmont died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at the V.A. Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyo. He was 68.

Mr. Ballard was born Aug. 20, 1935, to James Olan and Grace (Rollins) Ballard in South Pittsburg, Tenn. His family moved to Michigan from South Pittsburg.

He attended Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from Oct. 17, 1953, until Oct. 1, 1956. He served in Korea and achieved the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Ballard was a design engineer for Chrysler Corp. and later for Clark Fork Lift.

In January 1972, he moved to Longmont, where he he was a superintendent for several construction companies. He retired in 2000.

Mr. Ballard was a member of Longs Peak Post 2601, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Longmont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Ballard; and a grandchild, Christopher Olan Ballard.

He is survived by three sons, Michael Ballard and his wife Karin of Denver, Mark Ballard and his wife Cindy of Mead and Greg Ballard of Gunbarrel; a daughter, Kelly Ballard of Longmont; a brother, Ron Ballard of Knoxville, Iowa; two sisters, Sonja Blevins and Carol King, both of South Pittsburg; and three grandchildren, Stephanie, Stacie and Taylor.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Longs Peak Post 2601, Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 206 S. Main St., Longmont.

Cremation will be handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

BELL, William W.

Nov. 15, 1921 - July 29, 2004

William W. Bell of Grand Lake died of natural causes Thursday, July 29, 2004, at home. He was 82.

He was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Oak Creek, Colo., to John and Myrtle (Stark) Bell.

Mr. Bell was a Longmont resident from approximately 1926 until 1953.

He married Kathryn Angulas on July 21, 1946, in Longmont.

Mr. Bell served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a volunteer with the fire department and a member of the Rotary Club. He was also active with the Chamber of Commerce and Grand County Sewer Board in Grand Lake. He owned the Bell Crest Resort in Grand Lake.

Mr. Bell was a member of Trinity Church of the Pines in Grand Lake.

He loved people and the water, especially boating.

Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his wife; and a brother, George Bell.

He is survived by three daughters, Linda Bell of Denver, Debra Carringer and her husband George of Colorado Springs and Judi Lee and her husband Danny of Spokane, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Kory, Alex and Ryan Victor and Pat Carringer.

A memorial open house will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Callahan House, 312 Terry St. Inurnment will take place at Grand Lake Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Schoenfeld Mortuary in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your favorite charity.

CARROLL, Alvin, 83, of Loveland, died Aug. 6, 2004 at McKee Medical Center in Loveland.

DILL, Clarice E.

Dec. 29, 1919 - Aug. 6, 2004

Clarice E. Dill of Longmont died Aug. 6, 2004, at the Life Care Center of Longmont. She was 84.

She was born Dec. 29, 1919, in Lyons, Neb., to J. Albin and Lillie (Hultberg) Monson.

She married Gerald W. Dill June 13, 1940, in Lyons, Neb.

She moved to Longmont from Lyons in 1957.

She was a homemaker and mother. She also worked in food service in schools and then IBM, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, of which she was a member of the Martha Circle.

She enjoyed making Christmas ornaments for her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed crafts and, recently, making and collecting Angels.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978 and her parents.

She is survived by three sons, Gary Dill and his wife Carol Anne of Peoria, Ariz., Jim Dill and his wife Sharon of Mead and John Dill and his wife Lori of Lafayette; four daughters, Gerrianne Parker and her husband Wayne of Longmont, Mary Jo Reuth and her husband Carl of Longmont; Kristie Gade and her husband Daryl of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., and Rhonda Haun and her husband Mike of Longmont; fifteen grandchildren, Jeff Parker and his wife Laurie, Kayleen Hittesdorf and her husband Dan, Wes Parker and his wife Deb, Karla Sanders, Cathy Lewerke, Jason Dill, Tyson Hull and his wife Suzie, Casey Hull, Erick Hull, Lindsay Haun, Kaitlyn Haun, Rebecca Haun, Shane Dill and his wife Tammy, Jaimie Mowers and her husband Justin and Nicholas Dill; 18 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends. Funeral Service are 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. G. Bruce Maxwell of the church officiating. Interment will be at Foothills Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Childrens Hospital in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St. Longmont 80501.

DURLAND, Charlotte Mae

Sept. 27, 1937 - Aug. 6, 2004

Charlotte Mae Durland of Longmont died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver. She was 66.

Mrs. Durland was born Sept, 27, 1937, in Monitor, Wash., to Jesse C. and Sadie E. (Yeager) Smoots.

She graduated form Seattle Pacific College in 1959 with an education degree.

She married Lyle A. Durland on June 20, 1959, in Wenatchee, Wash.

She was a public school teacher from 1959 until 1964. She then became a homemaker and mother.

She moved from Seattle to Longmont in 1971, moved to Tucson in 1990 and then returned to Longmont in 1999.

She was a member of Calvary Church, where she was part of Cady Circle. Mrs. Durland was also a member of Republican Women of Colorado and MOPS. She served as a deaconess of the El Camino Baptist Church in Tucson from 1990 until 1999.

Additionally, she taught Sunday school, child evangelism fellowships, good news club, adult bible studies and lead womens groups at both churches to which she had memberships.

She enjoyed gardening, antiques and Longmonts community. Mrs. Durland was also an avid reader and was interested in church missions and helping others. She will be remembered as a woman of prayer who was dedicated to her family.

Mrs. Durland was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by a son, David A. Durland of Parker; two daughters, Angela L. Sourisseau and her husband Frederic of Dinan, France, and Gwendolyn G. Pearshouse and her husband Clive of Aurora; two brothers, David J. Smoots of Lynnwood, Wash., and Daniel Smoots and his wife Diane of Snohomish, Wash.; three sisters, Rose M. Prestipino of Sequim, Wash., E. Ruth DeCamp and her husband Dale of Cape Coral, Fla., and Carol A. Smoots-Hines and her husband Jay of Oakton, Va.; four grandchildren, Alexandra E., Jessica L., Caroline A. and Christian F. Sourisseau of Dinan, France; 10 nieces and nephews; and 11 grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral Services are at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Calvary Church with the Rev. Tom Hovestol officiating. Interment at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Calvary Church and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

EVANS, Eli

July 22, 1963 - Aug. 3, 2004

Eli Evans of Berthoud died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital in Denver. He was 41.

He was born July 22, 1963, in Deming, N.M., to Robert Leon and Patricia Ann (Green) Evans.

He was raised in Animas, N.M., and attended Animas public schools. He graduated in 1981. He attended college in El Paso, Texas for one year.

He married Kim Martin on June 21, 1985, in Playas, N.M.

Mr. Evans began his career s a journeyman electrician working for David and Furry in Lordsburg, N.M. for a year. He then worked for Phillip Dodge Mining in Playas for 11 years until it closed.

He moved to Berthoud from New Mexico in October of 1999. He worked at South Down Cement Plant (now Cemex) in Lyons and Amgen for the last two years.

Mr. Evans was a member of New Creation Church in Longmont.

He enjoyed fly fishing and bow hunting for elk and deer.

He is survived by his wife of Berthoud; a son, Justin Evans of Berthoud; a daughter, Kristin Evans of Berthoud; his parents of Animas; two sisters, Diana Pursley and Samantha Evans; his father-in-law, Pat Martin and his wife Delora of Lordsburg; a brother-in-law, Kevin Martin and his wife Jennifer; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at New Creation Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Brumley officiating.

Interment will be at Evans Cemetery in Animas.

FISHBURN, Donald V.

Dec. 7, 1913 - Aug. 4, 2004

Donald V. Fishburn of Longmont died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Applewood Living Center. He was 90.

Mr. Fishburn was born Dec. 7, 1913, on a farm east of Longmont to Clement Crosby and Ida (Martindale) Fishburn.

He graduated from Longmont High School in 1932.

Mr. Fishburn married Hazel L. Walker on Nov. 11, 1933, in Longmont.

He worked in the grocery business and in the meat market until moving to Boulder in 1934 and living there for seven years. He then moved to Loveland to work for his brother, Fred Fishburn, in his grocery store named Fred and Freds.

Mr. Fishburn was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1941, serving in the Pacific theatre on the USS Parks DE 165 until World War II ended. He was discharged Dec. 10, 1945.

He moved back to Longmont after World War II. He then worked for the county treasurer in Boulder for a few years and joined the U.S. Postal Service in Longmont, serving as superintendent of mail. He retired in 1972.

Mr. Fishburn was a lifetime member of Longs Peak Post 2601, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Independent Order of Oddfellows No. 29 and B.P.O. Elks NO. 1055 of Longmont.

He was an avid bowler and loved to fish, hunt and work with wood in his shop.

He is survived by his wife of Longmont; a son, Larry Fishburn and his wife Ila Mae of Port Aransas, Texas; two daughters, Patricia Estes of Littleton and Linda Conilogue of Longmont; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery, with Chaplain John Boysen officiating. Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery, with military honors by Longs Peak Post 2601 VFW.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.
