FOSNIGHT, Eugene H.

Oct. 10, 1919 - July 8, 2004

Eugene H. Fosnight Sr. died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 84.

He was born Oct. 10, 1919, to Harold L. and Dorothy Fosnight in Akron, Ohio.

Mr. Fosnight was married to Evelyn Ost on June 29, 1940, in Akron. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. After his first wifes death on Nov. 12, 1992, he married Mary Thelma (Frederiksen) Olsen on Dec. 18. 1993, in Longmont.

He moved to Longmont in 1954, and worked for 23 years as a quality assurance inspector for Rocky Flats. He since retired.

Mr. Fosnight enjoyed fishing, bowling, baseball and playing golf. He belonged to First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont, and also attended Faith Community Lutheran Church in Longmont. He had a passion for making custom golf clubs. His family remembers him as a man who loved and deeply cared for family, church and country.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Thelma Olsen-Fosnight of Longmont; his sons, Eugene Fosnight Jr., and his wife, Ann, of Boulder, and James Fosnight and his wife, Joanne, of Durango; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Fosnight.

Private family memorial services have been held. Cremation was at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church or Faith Community Lutheran Church in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

GARCIA-GUTIERREZ, Samuel

Feb. 25, 1991 - July 5, 2004

Samuel Garcia-Gutierrez of Frederick died Monday, July 5, 2004, in Carichi, Mexico. He was 13.

He was born Feb. 25, 1991, in Fort Morgan to Nancy Gutierrez.

Samuel was a student at Frederick Middle School. He was raised in California and moved to Northglenn in 2002. He came to Frederick in December 2003.

He is survived by his mother of Frederick; four uncles, Leonardo Gutierrez of Arvada, Heriberto Gutierrez of Littleton, Saul Gutierrez of El Paso, Texas, and Sergio Gutierrez of Northglenn; an aunt, Delia Morales of Brighton; his grandparents, Felizardo Gutierrez and Flavia Meras-Gutierrez of Mexico; and a sister, Giovanna Gutierrez of Frederick.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Saturday, July 10, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 12, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Peter Urban of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lafayette officiating.

Interment will be at the Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Samuel Gutierrez Fund in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

GRIEP, Ann

GRIEP, Ann, 83, of Longmont died July 12, 2004, at Applewood Living Center. No visitation is planned. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary, Longmont. A memorial celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 16, at Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Deacon Mike Berens will officiate. Memorials are requested to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

JOHANNS, Beverly A.

JOHANNS, Beverly A., 78, of Longmont, passed away July 7, 2004, at Life Care Center of Longmont. No local services are planned. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

KEARNS, Edward Arnold

June 5, 1943 - July 8, 2004

Edward Arnold Kearns of Longmont died at his home on Thursday, July 8, 2004. He was 61.

Mr. Kearns was born June 5, 1943, in Phoenix to Edward Sarsfield and Dale Eric (Arnold) Kearns.

He grew up in Arizona and attended the University of Arizona, where he earned his bachelors and masters degrees in English.

He married Evelyn Rodriguez on June 16, 1979, in Denver.

Mr. Kearns was a professor of English at the University of Northern Colorado for 34 years. He joined the university in 1966 and retired in 2000. The university named him a professor emeritus. He was chairman of the English department from 1985 to 1988.

During his post-retirement, Mr. Kearns was a columnist for the Daily Times-Call for the three years prior to his death. He was active in the Democratic Party, the Colorado Education Association, the Colorado Language Arts Society, the National Council of Teachers of English and the 4 Cs.

He served as a grader for advanced placement English, was a forensics judge, and wrote and published several articles on teaching composition at both the high school and college. His passions included teaching literature and composition, cooking and embracing the cultural arts.

He was also an avid sports enthusiast enjoying baseball and golf coached his childrens sports, and loved traveling.

Mr. Kearns was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Longmont; three children, Erin Rodriguez-Kearns, Mariah Selene Rodriguez-Kearns of Longmont, and Jason Edward Kearns and his wife Lindy of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Vicki Dale Corrado and her husband John T. Barry of Mesa, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Ellie Kearns; a niece, Lisa Corrado; and a nephew, Gaetano Corrado.

Visitation will be held at Howe Mortuary on Monday, July 12, from 1 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Life Bridge Christian Church in Longmont on Tuesday, July 13, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

A memorial scholarship fund for students in the English Department at the University of Northern Colorado will be established in Mr. Kearns name. Memorials may be sent to Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont 80501.

KELLY, Richard Earl

September 5, 1957 - July 4, 2004

Richard Earl Kelly of Longmont died of liver failure Sunday, July 4, 2004, in Longmont. He was 46.

He was born Sept. 5, 1957, in Ridgecrest, Calif., to William James Kelly and Jean Elizabeth Tuckerman Kelly.

He was married to Janice Lynn Vang on Aug. 1, 1996, in Incline Village, Nev.

He worked as a backhoe operator. He moved to Longmont in 2000. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Chris Kelly of Ridgecrest, Calif.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; three brothers, Phillip Kelly of Ridgecrest, Calif., Frank Kelly of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Barrie Kelly of Vancouver, Wash.; and two sisters, Margaret Ryan of Coronado, Calif., and JoAnne Ingle of Ridgecrest, Calif.

No local services are planned. He will be buried in Ridgecrest.

NELSON, John Leonard

Nov. 21, 1917 - July 12, 2004

John Leonard Nelson of Longmont died Monday, July 12, 2004, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties in Louisville. He was 86.

He was born Nov. 21, 1917, in Niwot to John Albert and Anna (Johnson) Nelson.

Mr. Nelson was raised in the Niwot and Longmont area. He was a graduate of Longmont High School.

He married Eileen Jones on Jan. 24, 1942, in Longmont.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a life member of the American Legion.

Mr. Nelson worked as the manager of the Longmont Flour Mill. He later became the superintendent of the Highland Ditch Company. He retired in 1982.

He was a fly fisherman and liked crossword puzzles, traveling and enjoying the countryside while driving in the mountains.

Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by 11 siblings; and a son, William Carl Nelson in 1963.

He is survived by his wife of Longmont; a daughter, Sallie Duncan and her husband, John of Longmont; a sister, Florence Siglinger of Longmont; three grandchildren, Kae Carlson and her husband Joe of Longmont, Kristie Duncan and her fiancé Lucas Tucker of Longmont and Kandece Duncan and her fiancé William Gibson of Longmont; a great-grandchild, Christifer Gibson of Longmont; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

NOU, Pley, 77, of Longmont, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital.

PELLETT, Annette M.

Oct. 28, 1953 - July 6, 2004

Annette M. Pellett of Boulder died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, in Lafayette. She was 50.

She was born Oct. 28, 1953, in Great Bend, Kan., to Leonard and Edna (Kathman) Miller.

She married Kenneth Pellett in Boulder. They later divorced.

She was preceded in death by her father in 2003; and her former husband.

Mrs. Pellett is survived by three sons, Scott Pellett of Longmont, David Pellett and Tim Pellett and his wife Linda; and a grandson, Braydon Lee Pellett.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Avalon Funeral Home, 1320 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette.

RASCON, Zayra

April 29, 1990 - July 9, 2004

Zayra Ivonne Rascon of Firestone died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Childrens Hospital in Denver. She was 14.

Zayra was born April 29, 1990, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Trinidad Rascon and Ivonne Saucedo. At age 2, she moved with her family from Mexico to Colorado. She had recently completed the seventh grade at Frederick Middle School.

She had attended International Church of the Foursquare Gospel in Frederick with her family. She will be remembered by her family as a pleasant young woman, a good cook and a good sister.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Zayra is survived by her mother and her step-father, Jesus Rubio, of Firestone; her maternal grandparents, Jesus and Maria Saucedo of Chihuahua; two sisters, Karen and Kathy Rubio Saucedo, of Firestone; two uncles, Gustavo Garfio of Firestone and Daniel Garfio of Chihuahua; two aunts, Delia Garfio of Chihuahua and Sara Saucedo of Longmont; nearly 60 cousins; and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, at Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Howe Mortuary, Longmont, with the Rev. Laura Salazar officiating. Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

REAVIS, Jackie 'Jack' D.

March 9, 1931 - July 12, 2004

Jackie 'Jack' Dean Reavis of Johnstown died Monday, July 12, 2004, of natural causes at his home. He was 73.

He was born March 9, 1931, in Pleasant Mount, Ill., to Grover Cleveland and Clara Charolette (Cable) Reavis.

Mr. Reavis enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He was selected for Special Operations for the White Castle project in the Marshall Islands. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2585 in Boulder. He was also a former member of the Longmont Moose Lodge.

Mr. Reavis moved to Longmont from Boulder in 1958. A retired contractor, he worked for Mountain Bell for 13 years and at various construction jobs as a sub-contractor. He also held a variety of other jobs, including managing the Countryside Village Mobile Home park.

Mr. Reavis was a member of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed being outdoors and liked to watch The Price is Right. He will be remembered for his positive outlook on life.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dean Reavis; a brother, Homer Reavis; and two sisters, Lena Siebert and Faye Duckworth.

Mr. Reavis is survived by his former wife and friend, Bobbie Crouch of Grand Junction; a daughter, Lori Campion and her husband Curt of Johnstown; three sisters, Cleta Watson of Greenville, Ill., Mildred ONeal of Oxford, Mich., and Helen Tompkins of Pleasant Mound; three grandchildren, A.J., Kristoffer and Sara Nicole; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Kay Palmer Walsh of Rinn United Methodist Church officiating. Services will conclude at the chapel.

No visitation is scheduled.

SCHWEGER, Ruth Joyce

April 1, 1924 - July 6, 2004

Ruth J. Schweger, formerly of Longmont, passed away July 6, 2004, in Hawaii. She was 74.

She was born April 1, 1924, in Weldona, Colo., to Tom and Vera (Todd) Bowman.

She married Paul Schweger on Oct. 28, 1943, in Denver.

She was raised in Lyman, Neb., and moved to Missouri from Longmont 10 years ago. She was in Hawaii visiting family at the time of her death.

She was a graduate of Lyman High School.

She was a dairy farm wife, farming with her husband in Brighton and the Longmont area.

She was a member of a quilting club and enjoyed antiquing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Rob; a son-in-law, Jerry Smith; and her husband on June 6, 1979.

She is survived by four sons, Richard Schweger of Longmont, Tim Schweger of Kona, Hawaii, Tom Schweger and his wife Brinda of Hudson, and Roger Schweger and his wife Lisa of Westminster; three daughters, Kathy VonFeldt and her husband Edward of Brighton, Kelly Smith of Kona, Hawaii, and Laura Lolly Bradbury and her husband Wilbur of Kelso, Wash.; two brothers, Todd Bowman and his wife Jean of California, and Stan Bowman and his wife Donna of Lyman, Neb.; three sisters-in-law, Rose Zapf of Longmont, Mary Purser of Lakewood, and Irene Tichy of Lakewood; a brother-in-law Bill Schweger of Longmont; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 12, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Bradshaw of LifeBridge Christian Church officiating. Interment at Foothills Gardens of Memory. Memorial contributions may be made to The Childrens Hospital, sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.
