JACEK, Juanita L.

Juanita L. Jacek of Longmont died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 82.
She was born June 18, 1922, in Longmont to Charles D. and Ella (McMillin) Lanham. She remained a lifelong resident of Longmont.
She married Martin Jacek in February 1954 in Raton, N.M.
Mrs. Jacek was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and she sang in the church choir.
She worked as an attendance secretary at Niwot High School.
Mrs. Jacek enjoyed dancing, reading, crocheting and music. She also participated in community theatre productions with her son.
She was preceded in death by her husband on June 4, 1998.
Mrs. Jacek is survived by three sons, Tim Lester and his wife Pat of Arvada, Terry Lester and his wife Linda of Grand Junction, Paul Jacek of Hollywood, Calif., and of Longmont; four grandchildren, Joshua Lester, Casey Lester, Kathleen Lester, Kathleen Lester and Ellen Klein; and three great-grandchildren, Michaela Lester, Nikole Lester and Brystol Lester.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, with the Rev. David R. Wood, retired, officiating.
Private inurnment will take place at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Cremation was held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

MARTINEZ, Jim
May 1, 1914 - June 30, 2004
Jim Martinez of Longmont died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Life Care Center of Longmont. He was 90.
He was born May 1, 1914, in Alfalfa, Colo., to Jesus Maria and Apolonia (Alderte) Martinez. He remained a lifetime resident of Colorado.
He married Nora Mastas on Oct. 25, 1936, in Trinidad.
Mr. Martinez was a farm laborer and a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Mr. Martinez enjoyed playing the harmonica and the accordion. He liked to go horseback riding with his brothers in Trinidad.
After Mrs. Martinez death, he raised his children as a single parent. He will be remembered as a great father.
Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his wife in April 1950; a sister; and two grandsons.
He is survived by three sons, Jose J. Martinez and his wife Sylvia of Longmont, Ernest Martinez and his wife Hope of Greeley and Sam Martinez and his wife Sharon of Longmont; two daughters, Magdelina Maggie Schmidt and her husband Walt of Longmont and Roberta Martinez of Longmont; four brothers, Andy Martinez of Trinidad, Joe Martinez and his wife Sadie of Denver, Henry Martinez and his wife Linda of Trinidad and Eloyd Martinez and his wife Geraldine of Trinidad; 23 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 5, with a rosary service to be held at 7 p.m. with Deacon Bob Howard presiding, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mickey Flaska as celebrant.
Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
MATTSON, Garrett Steven
May 4, 1988 - July 1, 2004
Garrett Steven Mattson of Loveland died Thursday, July 1, 2004, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland due to injuries sustained in a water accident. He was 16 years old.
Garrett was born May 4, 1988, in Longmont to Alex S. Mattson and Kimberly K. (Franck) Mattson. He had attended B.F. Kitchen Elementary School, Bill Reed Middle School and had just completed his freshman year at Thompson Valley High School.
Garrett loved dancing, from tap to hip-hop. He had recently joined the Broadway Bound Dance Academys Competition Team. He had also been active in his schools choir, the football program and was a former Boy Scout. As a result of Garretts generous and caring nature, he requested that his organs be donated. He will be remembered as a young man who loved life, and who was a friend to all.
He is survived by his parents, Alex and Kim Mattson of Loveland; his sister, Lauren Mattson, of Loveland; his maternal grandmother, Virginia (Hoffman) Franck of Thornton; his maternal grandfather, Allen Franck and his wife Wanda, of Cookson, Okla.; two uncles, Ernest Mattson of Horseheads, N.Y., and Steven Mattson and his wife Carol, of Endicott, N.Y.; and three aunts, Louise Farnsworth and her husband Dennis, of Thornton, Colo., Sylvia Mattson of Corning, N.Y., and Helen Kane and her husband Dan, of Corning, N.Y. He is also survived by several cousins and many good friends.
Garrett was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Stefani (Stadler) Mattson.
A celebration of Garretts life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 5, 2004, at First Christian Church, 2000 N. Lincoln Ave, Loveland. Pastor Tom Webster will officiate. No visitation is planned. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary, Longmont.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Garrett Mattson Memorial Fund, in care of Community First Bank, 415 Mountain Ave., Berthoud 80513.
ROMAN, Lorraine 'Patty'
Oct. 10, 1933 - June 29, 2004
Patty was born in Fergus Falls, Minn., the eldest daughter of Nels and Pauline Roman. She obtained a business degree in Minneapolis.
Patty met and married Robert Noll. They lived in Big Stone City, S.D., where they had four children, Jeffrey, Richard, Nancy and Paula. Robert and Patty divorced after 25 years of marriage. Patty then married Donald Hallock in Issaquah, Wash. They were married for 15 years.
A proprietor of two antique businesses in Big Stone City for 20 years, Patty continued to deal antiques in Texas. She had a passion for antiques, and loved attending estate and garage sales. Patty was a member of the Colorado State Button Society and The Rose Society in Seattle.
She enjoyed spending time in her garden and loved fine dining. Patty cherished time with her daughter Paula and her family.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Nels Roman; Robert Noll; a sister, Bonnie Hicks; a son, Jeffrey Noll; and a daughter, Nancy Noll Cramer.
She is survived by a son, Richard; a daughter, Paula Noll; three grandsons, Eric Knutson, Chance Cramer and Connor Peek; and numerous relatives and friends.
A very special thanks to Andy DeCoursey, Susan Delmonico, Marilyn and Kimber.
Good-bye, Mom. You are another angel in our hearts.
Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2004, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Crist Mortuary Chapel. Inurnment will follow in Minnesota.
SPENGLER, Dow L.
Oct. 3, 1933 - June 29, 2004
Dow L. Spengler of rural Winfield, Kan., died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at his home. He was 70.
He was born Oct. 3, 1933, in Winfield to Lyman M. and Ethel B. (Clavin) Spengler
Mr. Spengler attended Maple Grove Elementary School and later graduated from Winfield High School in 1951. He worked with his family on the farm.
He married Patricia A. Crandle on May 26, 1956, in Winfield. The couple made their home east of Winfield and Mr. Spengler was employed at Smith and Moon, General Electric and Gordon-Piatt. In 1969 the couple moved to Tonkawa, Okla., for a short time and he taught a Manpower program at the college. They moved to Thornton in 1970 and later Dacono. He was employed as a welder and pipe fitter for Rocky Flats. During that time he also taught welding at Longmont High School.
In 1979 the couple moved back to Winfield and he began working at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita as a tool welder. He retired in 1996 following 16 years of service.
Mr. Spengler was a member of the National Rifle Association and loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed raising goats and working crossword puzzles. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Winfield; two sons, Wesley Spengler and wife Sherri of Longmont and Rick Spengler and wife Tammy of Mulvane, Kan., three daughters, Jullie Loper and her husband Brian of Longmont, Dawn of Winfield and Melissa Spengler of Concordia, Kan.; a brother, Milton Spengler of Winfield, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 3, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at New Salem Cemetery, northeast of Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m., Friday, July 2. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that day.
A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Spenglers name for Alzheimers Disease Research. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home.
ARELLANO-JOHNSON, Joshua Thomas
April 7, 1985 - July 6, 2004
Joshua Thomas Arellano-Johnson of Lakewood died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, in Denver from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was 19.
Joshua was born April 7, 1985, in Boulder to Mark Johnson and Robin Lee Arellano. He was raised in the Longmont and Pinewood Springs areas.
From an early age, Joshua loved music, taking up the violin while attending junior and senior high school in Longmont.
He more recently has played the acoustic and electric guitar, and acoustic and electric bass guitar and sang in a number of Punk Rock and Christian bands that performed throughout the Denver area. He also took up poetry in school, becoming quite accomplished, turning that more recently into song writing.
Joshua has been a member of Rocky Mountain Evangelical Free Church, Estes Park since moving to that area. He began attending Colorado Christian University last year, studying for youth pastor.
Since moving to Denver to attend school, he has participated in the Scum of the Earth Church, an inner-city ministry, where he worked as a missionary on the streets of Denver.
Joshua graduated from Estes Park High School in 2003. Joshua was a skilled wrestler starting at age 5, going to National Wrestling tournaments under tutelage of Leister Bowling.
In addition, he was recognized for his academic standing and was also active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and had worked two summers for the Salvation Army Christian Camps in Allenspark. His fellow students voted him most likely to save the children of Ethiopia.
Joshua loved his family and lived his life for Jesus. He was a self-proclaimed momma's boy.
Preceding him in death was his grandfather, Stanley Vera.
Surviving are his father, Mark Johnson and his wife Diane of Lafayette; his mother, Robin Arellano and her husband Rick Valles of Pinewood Springs; two sisters, Emily Arellano and Elaina Arellano-Valles, both of Pinewood Springs; grandparents Mary Vera of Lafayette, Edward and Delma Johnson of Cape Coral, Fla., and Richard and Donna Valles of Boulder; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation hours will be Friday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Howe Mortuary, Longmont.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 12, at the Grace Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Jess Mahon of Rocky Mountain Evangelical Free Church, Estes Park, and Pastor Brian Carlson of Grace Evangelical Free Church, Longmont, officiating. Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

BRUMMER, Marilyn
June 9, 1932 - July 10, 2004
Marilyn Brummer of Longmont died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at home, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 72.
She was born June 9, 1932, in Erie, Ill., to Homer and Mildred (Wait) Smith.
Ms. Brummer attended elementary and high school there, and came to Colorado in 1953. She was graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley with an elementary teaching certificate. She taught in New Raymer, Colo., in Avondale, Ariz., and at Columbine Elementary in Longmont.
She enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, camping, dancing and traveling, but most of all, her family and friends.
In 1987, Ms. Brummer and Lynn R. Mitchell bought the Lyons Soda Fountain in Lyons. For eight years, she greatly enjoyed owning this wonderful piece of history.
She and Lynn Mitchell were married in October 1992 in Allenspark, attended by family members.
Ms. Brummer was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tony; her son-in-law, Paul Smith; her brother, Donald Smith; and her sister, Marlene OBrien.
She is survived by her husband; her two daughters, Sandra Smith of Laramie, Wyo., and Jerri Brummer-Grout and her husband, Len, of Erie; her granddaughters, Jennifer, Amy and Casey, all of Laramie, Wyo.; her former husband, Jerry Brummer; several nieces and nephews; a special nephew, Patrick OBrien and his wife, Mary Ann, of Englewood; and a special friend, Marsha Eubanks, of Burnet, Texas.
There will be no visitation.
A celebration of Ms. Brummers life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St. The Rev. Bruce McQueen will officiate. Interment will be at Foothills Memorial Gardens in Longmont.

FLANAGAN, Jimmy Lamar
Dec. 25, 1934 - July 5, 2004
Jimmy Lamar Flanagan of Longmont died Monday, July 5, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 69.
He was born Dec. 25, 1934, in Benoit, Miss., to Jim and Ethel (Williams) Flanagan.
Mr. Flanagan married Francis Cooley on Jan. 19, 1968, in Columbia, Miss.
Mr. Flanagan lived in Boulder during the 1970s and moved to Longmont in 2001. Mr. and Mrs. Flanagan were property managers in the Longmont area. He was a member of the Niwot Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses.
He will be remembered by his family as a great husband and father, who possessed a good sense of humor and an outgoing personality.
Mr. Flanagan was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a sister.
He is survived by his wife of Longmont; three sons, Cody Flanagan and his wife Robyn of Neenah, Wis., Michael Flanagan and his wife Michelle of Appleton, Wis., and Steve Flanagan of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a daughter, Debbie Rimbey and her husband Cliff of Boulder; a brother, Denver Flanagan of Jackson, Miss.; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Flanagan will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Niwot Congregation Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 5885 Jay Road, Boulder.
Inurnment will take place at the Janice Cemetery in Janice, Miss. Cremation has been held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
