PFEIF, Olinda
July 16, 1924 - June 19, 2004
Olinda Pfeif of Johnstown died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Hospice & Palliative Care Inpatient Unit in Greeley. She was 79.
She was born July 16, 1924, in Merino, Colo., to Jacob and Amelia (Maier) Zwetzig.
At age 2, she moved to Lead, S.D., where she helped on the family farm.
She married Albert Adler in 1941 in South Dakota. The couple moved to Manderson, Wyo., Sterling and Loveland before Mr. Adler served in World War II. He was killed in action in 1943 in the Phillipines.
On Sept. 21, 1946, she married Joseph Pfeif in Loveland. They moved to a farm near Johnstown in 1950 before moving into town in January 1981.
Mrs. Pfeif loved to take pictures and often gave them to those she photographed. She loved her flowers and flower gardens and enjoyed shopping.
She is remembered as a caring person who shared with everyone who needed help and a woman who loved to spend time with her family.
Mrs. Pfeif was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Albert Pfeif; and three brothers, Rudolph, Harold and Jack Zwetzig.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Stratton of Longmont and Donna Campbell of Denver; a son, Glenn Pfeif and his wife Mary of Johnstown; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Pfeif of Syracuse, N.Y.; a sister, Frieda Fischer of Lodi, Calif.; a brother, Vic Zwetzig of Sturgis, S.D.; stepsisters and brothers, Mary Zitterkopf of Bayard, Neb., and Frieda Schwaub and Jake Haffner of Belle Fourche, S.D.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at the Adamson Memorial West Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 25, at Faith Lutheran Church of Johnstown, followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.

ABROMSKI, Theodore E.
Oct. 31, 1923 - June 23, 2004
Theodore E. Ted Abromski of Longmont died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 80.
He was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Fort Morgan to Anthony and Sadie (Witkowski) Abromski.
During World War II, Mr. Abromski served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a ball turret gunner. He was a member of the Eighth Air Force, 711th Bombardment Squadron, 447th Bombardment Group from Nov. 29, 1943 to Aug. 3, 1945. He was involved in air offensive battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes.
He was a past Commander of Veterans for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2601 in Longmont, from 1954 to 1955.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Mr. Abromski was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife Thelma of Longmont; a son, Mark of Longmont; two daughters, Susan Lentz of Brighton and Jennie Abromski-Brown of Washington; a brother, Stanley Abromski; a sister, Margaret Sabados of Longmont; four grandchildren, Jeremiah Lentz, Heather Lentz, and Lauren and Morgan Abromski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Cremation was held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

BRADEN, Eleanor (Foster)
Sept. 13, 1907 - June 23, 2004
Eleanor (Foster) Braden of Lafayette died Wednesday, June 23, 2004. She was 96.
She was born Sept. 13, 1907, in Oregon, Mo., to John Franklin and Mattie Cleo (Schaeffer) Foster.
She married Melvin Braden on Aug. 19, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo.
Mrs. Braden enjoyed gardening, quilting and traveling. She moved to Colorado from Texas in 1999 and worked as a caregiver all of her life.
She lived in Longmont for several years and moved from Longmont to Lafayette a month before her death.
Mrs. Braden was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by a son, Gene Braden of Lemoore, Calif.; three daughters, Eunice Braden of Saugus, Calif., Bette Dorris of Eugene, Ore., and Norma Bigger and her husband George of Broomfield; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at Rundus Funeral Home in Broomfield. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Rundus Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

CRAIN, Elizabeth A.

Elizabeth Crain of Lafayette died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 46.
She was born Aug. 13, 1957, in West Memphis, Tenn., to Daniel Howard Jr. of Heth, Ark., and Bobbye Joyce (Beck) Anderson.
She married Kenneth R. Crain on June 28, 1980, in Heth.
Mrs. Crain was a computer operator for First Tennessee Bank and for Jefferson Pilot Communications in Memphis.
She became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lafayette after moving from Heth in 1990.
She enjoyed sewing and cross-stitch.
Mrs. Crain was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of Lafayette; a son, Bert A. Crain of Lafayette; a brother, Daniel Howard Anderson III of Heth; and two sisters, Roberta Woodson and her husband Chris of Raleigh, N.C., and Beck Anderson of Raleigh.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at First United Methodist Church in Lafayette. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gordon Benesh of the church officiating. Interment will be at Lafayette Cemetery. Ahlberg Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
DYNNESON, Mary Lou
April 6, 1904 - June 27, 2004
Mary Lou Valentine-Corn-Dynneson of Aurora, formerly of Longmont, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Life Care Center of Aurora. She was 100.
She was born April 6, 1904, in Aten, Neb., to John and Sarah (Parker) Nohr.
Mrs. Dynneson grew up in Kanorado, Kan., where she graduated from high school. She moved to Colorado in the 1930s and lived in several towns before settling in Longmont in 1980.
She was a former member of the Longmont Bible Chapel and was active in the Longmont Senior Center.
A homemaker, Mrs. Dynneson loved horses, gardening, raising canaries and playing scrabble.
She moved to Aurora in November 2003 to live with her grandson.
Mrs. Dynneson was preceded in death by three husbands, Glenn B. Valentine in June 1960, Orlin Corn in May 1984 and Hans Dynneson in November 2003; a brother; and five sisters.
She is survived by a son, Don Valentine and his wife Eldonna of Colorado Springs; two daughters, Orleane Murphy and her husband John Caldwell of Westminster and Jeanne Gaylley of Salem, Ore.; five grandchildren, David Valentine and his wife Marion of Aurora, Dan Valentine and his wife Margaret of Colorado Springs, Scott Valentine and his wife Bronwen of Lafayette, Mark Valentine and his wife Julie of Port Angeles, Wash., and Cindy of Westminster; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel with Mrs. Dynnesons son, the Rev. Don Valentine of Northeast Bible Chapel in Colorado Springs, officiating.

GAMBRELL, William C. 'Bill'
Jan. 13, 1941 - June 26, 2004
William C. 'Bill' Gambrell of Longmont died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at his home. He was 63.
He was born Jan. 13, 1941, in Laurel, Miss., to Mitchell and Dela (Downey) Gambrell.
Mr. Gambrell married Sharla Smith in 1957 in Hugo, Colo.
He managed a shoe store in Lamar from 1960 to 1971. He later owned and operated two real estate offices in Greeley for 17 years. From 1988 until his retirement in 2001, Mr. Gambrell was water commissioner for the State of Colorado Department of Natural Resources.
Mr. Gambrell moved from Greeley to Longmont in 1990.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed golfing and traveling by RV. He will be remembered for the courage with which he fought his cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother.
Mr. Gambrell is survived by his wife; a son, Darin Van Gambrell of Brighton; a daughter, Jana Lynn Fetcenko and her husband Mark of Mead; and a grandchild, Josh Wells of Barsville, Colo.
A private memorial service will be held at the ranch of Mr. Gambrells grandson. Cremation was held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

KORTHUIS, John
March 7, 1923 - June 23, 2004
John Korthuis died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 81.
He was born March 7, 1923, on a farm near Prinsburg, Minn., to John and Rena (Marcus) Korthuis.
John joined the U.S. Army on Feb. 21, 1944, and served in the European theater during World War II. He was wounded near Metz, France, and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge on Aug. 18, 1945, he attended the Kansas City School of Watchmaking and graduated in 1949.
On Sept. 14, 1948, he married Nadine Clemence in Kansas City, Mo. They were married 53 years.
They moved to South Dakota, where they owned and operated four jewelry stores named Korthuis Jewelry. From Brookings, S.D., the family moved to Concordia, Kan., in 1963, where they continued in the jewelry business. He retired in 1971, and the family moved to Longmont.
John was a caring husband, father and grandpa. He enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, ROOK games, trips to Las Vegas and the Colorado mountains. He enjoyed watching the Rockies and the Broncos.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nadine; his father, John; his mother, Rena; his brothers, Ray, Dick, George and Lubbert; and his sisters, Ella, Dena and Mary.
He is survived by his daughters, Connie Rehbein and husband Mario of Cary, N.C., Linda Bonsall and husband Duane of Longmont, and Brinda Schweger and husband Tom of Hudson; his grandchildren, Jenni Allen and husband Cary, Melissa and Sarah Bonsall, Lanyon Schweger and fiancé Gary Schuster and Staff Sgt. Travis Schweger and wife Sabra; his brothers, Clarence Korthuis (Johns twin) and wife Elaine of Longmont, Laverne Korthuis and wife Betty of Granite Falls, Minn. and Harold Korthuis and wife Yvonne of Willmar, Minn.; his sisters, Sadie Asche of Raymond, Minn., Margie Lepsch of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Ruth Watkins of Buffalo, Wyo.; his sister-in-law Gladys Korthuis of Prinsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Korthuis officiating. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Inurnment will follow services at Foothills Gardens of Memory. Military honors by the U.S. Army, Fort Carson and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2601. Memorial contributions to Longmont United Hospital or Meals on Wheels can be sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
McGREW-JACKSON, Edna Mae
July 30, 1915 - June 22, 2004
Edna Mae McGrew-Jackson of Longmont died Monday, June 22, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 88.
She was born July 30, 1915, in Lovejoy Two, Ill., to Roland and Florence (Barnes) Gray.
She married Joseph L. McGrew on May 5, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1965. She married Tom Jackson in 1968. He, preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and cook for the school district. She enjoyed camping, fishing, spending winters in Texas and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her siblings; a daughter-in-law; a great-granddaughter; and a great-great-grandchild.
She is survived by three sons, Dan McGrew of Longmont, Donald McGrew and his wife Bonnie of Bennet, Colo., and Delmar McGrew and his wife Jean of Cañon City; a daughter, Dorthy Mundt and her husband Dean of Longmont; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 25, at Evergreen Cemetery. A celebration of Mrs. Jacksons life will be held at 12886 Columbine Place in Longmont following the services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
QUERFELD, Dale Wade
Sept. 6, 1905 - June 23, 2004
Dale Querfeld died Wednesday, June 23, 2004. He was 98.
He was born Sept. 6, 1905, in Clinton, Ill. He attended Clinton schools and received his bachelors degree in civil engineering from Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., in 1928.
He worked for the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C., in the 1930s. He worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron during World War II and Darin and Armstrong in Detroit until his retirement in 1971.
Mr. Querfeld won the Silver Beaver Award of the Boy Scouts of America for more than 20 years as a scoutmaster in inner-city Detroit.
He moved to Boulder upon his retirement. In Colorado, Mr. Querfeld was a member of the Kiwanis Club of the Foothills. He served on the board for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program Council and for the Special Transportation Association of Colorado. He volunteered with Medigap as an insurance counselor and served as a member of an ad-hoc committee with the Colorado Division of Insurance.
Mr. Querfeld was chairman of the Boulder County Council on Aging, was a member of the Boulder County Solid Waste Advisory Board and was a YMCA recycling operator in Boulder. He was involved in both the Boulder County and Mile High United Way and with the Community Development Advisory Committee for the city of Boulder. Mr. Querfeld received a gubernatorial appointment to the Colorado Commission on Aging and was awarded the Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Landon Carter, on March 11, 1987.
He is survived by a son, Charles W. Querfeld and his wife Judy of Longmont; a brother, William E. Querfeld and his wife Bettie of Osage Beach, Mo.; and a grandson, Edward C. Querfeld of Portland, Ore.
At Mr. Querfelds request, interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the YMCA of Boulder Valley, 2850 Mapleton, Boulder 80301.
