PERRY, Nova L.
July 19, 1922 - June 13, 2004
Nova L. Perry of Longmont died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties in Louisville. She was 81.
She was born July 19, 1922, in Birmingham, Ala., to Jessie and Mattie (Gunter) Eller.
She married James Adams in 1939 in Florida. They later divorced. She married Gale Perry in 1952 in Florida. They also divorced.
A homemaker, Mrs. Perry loved woodworking and writing poetry.
She had lived in Longmont since moving in 1980 from Boynton Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Perry is survived by two daughters, Saundra Kirk of Salem, Ark., and Nova Robinson of Seymour, Tenn.; a son, Farrell Adams of Boulder County; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A private family memorial service will be held.

EDWARDS, Frank, Edwin
Dec. 30, 1911 - June 17, 2004
Frank Edwin Edwards of Longmont died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Hospice of Boulder County. He was 92.
Mr. Edwards was born Dec. 30, 1911, in Springfield, Mo., to Frank Edwards and Mary Cunningham.
On March 5, 1949, he married Nina Louise Penquite in Oakland, Calif.
Mr. Edwards lived in Boulder County for the past four years.
A four-year World War II veteran who served with the 106th Infantry Division, Mr. Edwards was a retired purchasing agent for the city of Oakland. An avid gardener and homebuilder, he was described as a gentle man who always cared for others before himself.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his wife, Nina, and a brother, Gordon Edwards.
He is survived by a son, David Edwards and wife Nancy of Erie; grandson Ian Edwards of Lafayette; and grandson Ross Edwards of Boulder.
No local services are planned. Burial will be in Oakland. Arrangements are being handled by Erlinger Cremation and Funeral Services of Longmont.
GRESKAMP, John B.
GRESKAMP, John B., 74, of Longmont, passed away June 19, 2004, at The Peaks Care Center. A memorial gathering of friends will be held and announced at a later time. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
HELMERICK, Ruth Joan
Dec. 27, 1929 June 17, 2004
Ruth Joan Helmerick of Longmont died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield counties. She was 74.
Mrs. Helmerick was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Sheridan, Wyo., to Roger Roy Rochford and Alice Mae (Richardson) Rochford.
On June 26, 1954, she married Dr. Robert H. Helmerick in Sheridan. The couple moved to Longmont in 1982.
Mrs. Helmerick graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wyoming and taught school in Douglas, Wyo., prior to her marriage. After her marriage, she became a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, and her favorite hobby was china painting with her friends in the Northern Colorado Porcelain Artist Guild.
Mrs. Helmerick was a member of the Westview Presbyterian Church, where she was a past deacon and member of the Deborah Ruth Circle in Longmont.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Rita Jean Sherman.
Mrs. Helmerick is survived by her husband; two sons, Robert Helmerick and his wife Laura of Cheyenne, Wyo., and James Helmerick and his wife Michelle of Medical Lake, Wash.; three sisters, Jean Gorzalka and her husband Michael of Sheridan, Ruth Heald and her husband Thomas of Casper, Wyo., and Mary Helmerick of Fort Lupton; nine grandchildren, Amy and Brent Gorzalka, Elena, Kathryn and Robert Helmerick, Zane Helmerick, Jon and Erin Heald, and Keegan Garlock; and one niece, Leslie Perkins of Billings, Mont.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Westview Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bruce McQueen officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery in Sheridan.

HOPKINS, Glen Sheridan
Aug. 22, 1942 - June 8, 2004
Glen Sheridan Hopkins, formerly of Longmont, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, in Homer, Alaska. He was 61.
He was born Aug. 22, 1942, in Gillette, Wyo.
He earned an Eagle Scout award and graduated from Sheridan High School. He was awarded a four-year athletic and academic scholarship to the University of Wyoming. He achieved All-American status in football.
After graduating from the University of Colorado in 1967, he started his professional career at Neodata. He retired in 1986 and was employed with North American Fleet Services until his death.
Mr. Hopkins will be remembered as a wonderful man who strived to give the most effort that his heart would allow.
He is survived by his mother, Noreen Hopkins; a brother, David Hopkins and his wife Verne; a daughter, Heather Suits and her husband Rex of Longmont; a son, Tyson Hopkins and his wife Lisa; two grandchildren, Sierra Suits and Shania Suits; and an expected grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at Champion Ferries Funeral Home, 244 S. Brooks St. in Sheridan, with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating.

JOHNSTON, Paula J.
May 25, 1928 - June 16, 2004
Paula Johnston of Longmont died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital after a brief illness. She was 76 years old.
Paula was born to Paul and Amy Rose on May 25, 1928, on their ranch in Eastern Colorado. Her grandparents, Will and Bertha Durrett and Carl and Neta Rose, had homesteaded there at the end of open range ranching. She spoke of happy memories of family life on the eastern plains.
In 1939, the family moved to Boulder, where her father was a teacher. Paula graduated in 1945 from Boulder High School and from the University of Colorado with a bachelor of science in home economics. Paula taught chemistry and home economics in Minataire, Neb., and at Longmont High School.
She married Howard E. Johnston in Boulder on June 7, 1951. They had four children: Paul Ernest, Linda Kay, Larry and Gregory Howard.
They began their married life as ranchers in rural Arlington, Colo. In 1956, the family moved to Scottsbluff, Neb. From 1961 to 1963, the Johnstons lived in Rapid City, S.D., before returning to Colorado and making their home in Longmont.
Paula was first and foremost a mother and wife. She was an equal partner in her husbands gas station and towing business. Paula was deeply committed to her First United Methodist Church (FUMC) at local, regional and national levels.
She served on many boards and committees, including being the first woman lay leader in the western region and continuing member of United Methodist Women. She was an active volunteer in the community, serving on multiple boards and serving as a school board member for six years. She also ran for state representative, was active in AAUW, League of Women Voters, Girl Scouts, Head Start and on the Hover Manor board. Recent involvements include volunteering for Community Food Share, Columbine School program and Kids Hope.
Paula gave unconditional love to all she met and will be missed by her family, friends and community for her devotion, sense of humor, loyalty, strength and outgoing and caring manner.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Gregory Howard in 1988 and infant son Larry in 1953; and her parents, Paul and Amy Rose.
She is survived by a son, Paul; grandson, Paul; daughter, Linda; grandsons, Nathan Izzolena and his wife Jessica and Brian Izzolena; and her granddaughter, Mya Izzolena; great-grandchildren Tamara, Anthony and Vinnie; sister Joan Skinner of Davis, Calif.; nephews Kenji Skinner and wife Judy, Kristopher Skinner and wife Jill, Karena Moravec and husband Eddie; grandnieces and nephews; sister Elizabeth McCall of Longmont; four nieces, Janna Sharp, Gina McCall, Stephanie Mann and husband Paul, Vanessa Lamb and husband John; and grand- and great-nieces and nephews; Aunt Beulah Cherney and husband Howard; many cousins; grand- and great-nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Memorial service 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Maxwell of the church officiating. Inurnment to follow service at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

MANWEILER, PAULINE (RUTZ)
Nov. 20, 1919 - June 20, 2004
Pauline Manweiler, 84, of Longmont, entered into rest with her Lord and Savior at 3:40 a.m. on June 20, 2004, from a brief illness at Longmont United Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 24, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1500 Ninth Ave., Longmont, with Diane Kay Martin officiating.
Pauline was born on Nov. 20, 1919, in Windsor to Henry and Mary Rutz. She grew up in the Windsor area and attended Windsor High School.
As a young woman she worked in the local grocery store in Windsor until she married. On March 13, 1950, she married Paul Manweiler and they had one child, Paula Kay Manweiler.
Later in life, Pauline worked for the St. Vrain Valley School District as a cook in the elementary and secondary kitchens. Pauline was also an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Longmont, the womens fellowship group, the Senior Congregators Group, and she was an avid supporter of the churchs choir.
Above all, Pauline loved her family and was always devoted to them. During her life, she was a great homemaker and mother who did whatever was necessary to support her family. Additionally, Pauline has always enjoyed being a devoted grandmother to her two grandchildren. In fact, Pauline attended every single activity the grandchildren were involved with, such as baseball and band concerts.
Pauline is survived by her husband Paul of Longmont; her daughter, Paula Tate and son-in-law, Chris Tate, both of Longmont; grandchild Aaron Tate of Northglenn; and grandchild, Damian Tate and wife Amanda Tate of Longmont. She is also survived by her two sisters, Frieda Ruff of Fort Collins, and Marie Foos of Greeley; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Pauline in death were her parents, Henry and Mary Rutz; her brother, Henry Rutz; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Since one of Paulines loves in life was to listen to the choir at church, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the church choir at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1500 Ninth Ave., Longmont 80501.
Viewing will be on Wednesday evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont 80501. Interment will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery. Friends and family are then invited to join the family at the church following the graveside services.
MORTON, Lew Wm. 'Bill'
July 1, 1927 - June 17, 2004
Lew William 'Bill' Morton of Niwot died peacefully in his sleep of congestive heart failure on Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 76 years old.
He was born July 1, 1927, to Carl and Anna (Satterthwait) Morton in Salem, Ohio.
Growing up, he and his family moved from town to town in the Midwest to establish telephone service in those communities.
He began a college program in engineering at Vanderbilt but left to serve his country in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering at Tennessee Technological University in 1956.
He married Joan Masters of Cookeville, Tenn., at Fort Monmouth, N.J., in 1952. She moved to Rome, N.Y., to stay with his parents while he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Korea.
Bill had a varied career in automotive engineering, engineering design and automotive forensics consulting. He designed and obtained the patent on the wheels on the first rolling suitcases for Samsonite in the mid-1970s as well as other useful items.
In retirement, Bill loved working on his computer, woodworking, attending University of Colorado Buffalo football games and keeping up the home that he and Joan designed and lived in for 32 years.
He was preceded in death by his son Carl; and sister, Ruth Stenmark.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Rosanne; son-in-law Jordan; granddaughter Lyndsey; brother-in-law Jack Masters; sister-in-law Janet Lowe; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Bill was a loving husband, father, friend and servant of the Lord. He was loyal and kind.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, at New Creation Church at 737 Bross St. in Longmont.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a charitable contribution to the American Heart Association.
TOZIER, Clayton Leroy
July 10, 1921 - June 14, 2004
Clayton Leroy Tozier of Longmont died Monday, June 14, 2004, at his home, of multiple myeloma. He was 82.
He was born July 10, 1921, in Maryland to Chet and Jeanette Tozier. The family moved to California when he was an infant.
Mr. Tozier married Faith Nichols, whom he had known since the age of 5. They were married for 59 years.
Mr. Tozier was the owner of Tozier Dairy, the family business, in Covina, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Tozier retired to Colorado, where they owned the Antique Mercantile on South Broadway in Denver. They attended Denver First Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Tozier enjoyed playing the tuba in the church orchestra.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet Sill and her husband Jeff of Mead and Linda Pardon of Whittier, Calif.; two sons, Steven Tozier and his wife Sheila of Murrieta, Calif., and Doug Tozier and his wife Naomi of Covina; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, all of California.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 21, at Denver First Church of the Nazarene.

CUSHMAN, Bernice E.
April 13, 1937 - June 20, 2004
Bernice E. Cushman, 67, died following a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, June 20, 2004. She was born on April 13, 1937, in Denver to William and Katherine (Kloberdance) Schell. Bernice was raised in the Mead, where she attended and graduated from Mead School.
Her family farmed in the Mead area at a time when children attended school and came home to work on the family farm and life was filled with family gatherings, community awareness and church. The quality of family values became a true legacy to all that knew her.
She married Charles H. Cushman on Sept. 19, 1955, in Raton, N.M. Charles was an adventurous entrepreneur type who was a livestock handler, trucker and rancher. She was supportive of all the hard work and some real life adventures.
Bernice had many interests and was active in many groups in and around the Longmont area, including religious education, Girl Scout Leader and 4-H leader. She was a quilter with the CCQA and ACQA, belonged to the Colorado Cattlewomen, the Beef Association, the Republican Party, the NRA, the Extension Club, Niwot Cemetery Association and Church Circle.
Like her husband, she was an entrepreneur herself. Bernice had a ladies boutique in Longmont called, The Bustle, LTD. She drove the school bus and was a bridal consultant. Bernice had an interest in Possibilities Unlimited, a local shop in Longmont. Bernice was in real estate for the past 28 years and worked at the Prudential LTM Realtors until the time of her death.
Bernice is preceded in death by her husband Charles H. Cushman, who died on Oct. 16, 1998; her mother Katherine; father Bill; brother David Schell; sister, Susan Schell; and most recently, her mother-in-law, Amy Cushman.
Her survivors include daughter, Shelly Jackson and son-in-law Bill of Erie; daughter, Sally Harmon and son-in-law Kelly of Longmont; and a son, Dwayne Cushman and daughter-in-law Gail of Longmont. In addition, there are nine grandchildren; Amy Atencio, Jamie Zaruba-Ruddick, Annie Zaruba, Melanie Harmon, Valerie Harmon-Werner, Katie Harmon-Salazar, Luke Cushman, Lisa Cushman and Tyler Cushman; and four great-grandchildren; Benjamin Werner, Marie Ruddick, Meadow Salazar and Tanner Atencio.
Bernice is also survived by her brother, Bill Schell and wife Elsie of Moses Lake, Wash.; and sister, Linda Edwards and husband Clyde of Orem, Utah. There are also many nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt, as well as many dear friends.
Visitation 3 to 8 p.m., with vigil service 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection 2 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Spirit of Peace Catholic Community.
