CLARK, Mary Evelyn (Oster)
March 25, 1923 - June 14, 2004
Mary Evelyn (Oster) Clark of Wray, formerly of Longmont, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at her home. She was 81.
She was born March 25, 1923, to Roy and Anna (Stastney) Clark. Mrs. Clark grew up in the St. Francis, Kan., area.
She married Woodrow Oster and moved with him to the Longmont area. She married Gilbert Clark in later years.
Mrs. Clark was a child care provider and will be remembered for the hearts of children and parents that she touched throughout her career.
Mrs. Clark enjoyed needlework and working in the garden with her cats.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church until moving to Wray in 1999, where she joined St. Andrews Catholic Church.
Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husbands; a brother; a sister; and several nieces.
She is survived by two sons; Gary Oster of Wray and Galen Oster and his wife Bonnie of Arizona; three daughters, Mary Lou Grado of Wray, Nancy DeAngelis and her husband Richard of Longmont and Anna McKinnon and her husband Bob of Grapevine, Texas; four grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 20, and a funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Wray.

FLORETH, Phillip Carlyle
FLORETH, Phillip Carlyle, of Longmont, died at his home after a long illness. He was 72. Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 18, at Howe Mortuary with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at the First Methodist Church in Longmont. A short burial service will be 11 a.m. on Monday, June 21, at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Byers School District, 444 E. GROUT, Ruth S.
Sept. 15, 1915 - June 14, 2004
Ruth S. Grout of Longmont, formerly of Nashville, Tenn., died Monday, June 14, 2004, at the Peaks Care Center. She was 88.
She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Nashville to John and Wilkins (Mullinix) Smith.
She grew up in Nashville and returned to her hometown in 1992.
She married Benjamin Grout in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1941.
Before her marriage, she worked as an assistant to the station manager at WSM radio in Nashville. She also was a singer for the station. After getting married, Mrs. Grout was a homemaker and mother.
Mrs. Grout was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the Longmont church after moving from Nashville in 1999.
Music was her main hobby. She played piano at the Village Place, developing musically themed holiday programs for the residents. She developed 16 of these programs and sang and played monthly for the residents. She volunteered with her daughter-in-law to perform at the Timberline Lodge, Bross Street Assisted Living and The Homestead.
Mrs. Grout also enjoyed gardening and golfing. She was chosen to hold golf cards at several national golf events and met Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. She was an expert interior decorator and in her lifetime had decorated 15 new homes from scratch.
Mrs. Grout was preceded in death by her parents; eight siblings; and her husband on April 22, 1994.
She is survived by a son, Bill Grout and his wife Barbara of Longmont; and two grandchildren, Claire and John Grout.
Graveside services and interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 18, at Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville, with Sellers Crain Jr. officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
KILPATRICK, Edward L.
July 26, 1903 - June 14, 2004
Edward Ed L. Kilpatrick of Longmont died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 100.
He was born July 26, 1903, to Charles and Sarah (Ryan) Kilpatrick. He grew up on the family farm in Waukon, Iowa.
After graduating from Iowa State Teachers College, Mr. Kilpatrick earned an electrical engineering degree at the University of Iowa.
He married Helen F. Rock in Oelwein, Iowa, in 1939.
The couple moved to the East Coast during World War II, where Mr. Kilpatrick joined the U.S. Coast Guard. He developed and patented a radar system, the high frequency directional finder, which was used to track down German U-boats and to locate downed U.S. pilots along the Eastern Seaboard. He also consulted on the effort to rescue five missing Navy planes of Flight 19 in Florida in 1945. He specialized in radar technology at the National Bureau of Standards in Boulder until his retirement in 1970.
In retirement, Mr. Kilpatrick pursued many interests. He purchased a computer at age 87 and worked on it daily until his death. He developed a home beekeeping operation, read avidly and worked on repairing motors of all kinds.
Mr. Kilpatrick was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Kilpatrick.
He is survived by his wife; five sons, Edward, Charles, John, Thomas and Mike; six daughters, Helen, Dorothy, Therese, Katherine, Elizabeth and Rita; a sister, Mary Howe; 27 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Howe Mortuary Chapel, Longmont.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 18, at Spirit of Peace Catholic Church, 1500 Hover St. in Longmont, with the Rev. Brian Morrow celebrant. Interment will immediately follow at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder.
KNOX, Genevieve L.
Nov. 19, 1917 - June 14, 2004
Genevieve L. Knox of Longmont died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital of natural causes. She was 86.
She was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Glenwood Springs to Vernon E. and Charlotte (Van Horn) Kilgore.
She married Melvin C. Knox in Oak Creek, Colo., on Feb. 26, 1936.
Mrs. Knox was a retired Grand County assessor. She enjoyed golf and bridge.
She lived in Boulder County from 1999 to 2004.
Mrs. Knox was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by two sons, Ike Knox and his wife Yvonne of Hot Sulphur Springs and Jim Knox and his wife Joan of Arvada; a daughter, Audrey Herman and her husband Wayne of Longmont; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
No local services are scheduled. Erlinger Cremation and Funeral Service is handling arrangements.
LAWYER, Samuel J. Jr.
June 21, 1926 - June 6, 2004
Samuel J. Lawyer Jr. of Riverside, Calif., died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at his home. He was 77.
He was born June 21, 1926, in Kackley, Kan.
Mr. Lawyer achieved the rank of Signal Man, Second Class, during his service in the U.S. Navy.
He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 30 years and for the Federal Railroad Association for 18 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Crossroads Christian Church in Corona, Calif., the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 9223 and the Eddie Dee Smith Senior Center. He was a ham radio operator for more than 50 years.
Mr. Lawyer was preceded in death by his wife, Princess; and a son, Gary Lawyer.
He is survived by a son, Daryl Lawyer and his wife Karen of Longmont; a stepson, Bobby Hilliard of San Jose, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Judy Appl of Newton, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Lawyer were held in California. No local services are planned.

MEIS, James Alvin
Feb. 10, 1920 - May 28, 2004
James Alvin Meis of Longmont died Friday, May 28, 2004. He was 84.
He was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Ellis County, Kan., to Henry and Sophia (Dorzweiler) Meis. Mr. Meis attended Weskan schools and graduated from Sharon Springs High School as salutatorian in 1938.
After high school, he worked in farming and was part owner of a small theater with his brother.
Mr. Meis married Eileen of Angeles, Kan., on May 16, 1941.
Mr. Meis joined the military and moved to Camp Crowder, Mo. He served as a clerk and was stationed in Okinawa.
In 1946, after his military service, he moved to Cheyenne Wells to manage Bricker-Rexall drug. Mr. and Mrs. Meis later purchased the drug store and built their first home in Cheyenne Wells. They later built a second home there.
The couple sold the drug store and traveled together. Mr. Meis continued farming, eventually with his grandson Monte and his family, who came to Cheyenne Wells to work on the family farm.
Mr. Meis was a city councilman, a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, supporter of the Sacred Heart parish, a veterans service officer and a supporter of community activities.
Mr. Meis was preceded in death by his wife in August 1992; an infant son, Jimmy Lee; 12 brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Johnny.
He is survived by a brother, Lawrence; a daughter, Diana and husband Phillip of Longmont; a son, Ron and his wife Rita; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and an expected great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass was held Wednesday, June 2, at the Sacred Heart Church in Cheyenne Wells with the Rev. George Fagan, celebrant. A recitation of the rosary was held at 7 p.m. June 1 with Theresa Harms leading. Final committal services were held at the Fairview Cemetery with full military honors by the William Kimmell Post No. 9700.

MILLER, Alfred M. 'Butch'
April 28, 1943 - June 13, 2004
Alfred M. 'Butch' Miller of Boulder died of leukemia Sunday, June 13, 2004, in Boulder. He was 61.
He was born April 28, 1943, in Boulder to Alfred M. Sr. and Jennie M. (Dunn) Miller.
He graduated from Boulder High School in 1962. He was a lifelong resident of Boulder County.
Mr. Miller married Mary Moir in November 1963. They later divorced. He married Barbara Abrams on May 19, 1978, in Las Vegas.
He was self-employed in the family business, Al Miller Concrete Inc.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his mother of Boulder; his wife of Boulder; a brother, Vic Miller of Longmont; two sons, Mike Miller of Boulder and Jimmy Dubovos of Loveland; two daughters, Melody Allen of Longmont; Barbara Stockman of Centennial; and seven grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Crist Mortuary.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 18, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 3485 Stanford Court, Boulder.

PARKER, M. Dale
Sept. 5, 1930 - June 15, 2004
M. Dale Parker of Longmont died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in Albuquerque, N.M. He was 73.
He was born Sept. 5, 1930, to Sherman and Pearl (Lintner) Parker in Denver. He attended school in Denver, Fort Morgan and Longmont, and graduated from Longmont High School in 1948.
During the Korean War, Mr. Parker served four years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He was stationed on the Aleutian Islands and in Alaska.
Mr. Parker married Hazel McMillen on Oct. 5, 1950, in Longmont. They were later divorced. He married Marylyn Adams on June 13, 1981, in Estes Park.
He served in the Longmont Police Department from 1952 to 1986. He served in many capacities, including captain of detectives and retiring as division chief.
Mr. Parker was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 2601 in Longmont.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Carrol Parker; a sister, Alice Lamb; and a grandson; Levi Rand on May 12, 2004.
Mr. Parker is survived by his wife of Longmont; six sons, Raymond Parker and his wife Betty of Longmont, Dale Parker II and his wife Paula of Port Orchard, Wash., Mike Parker and his wife Ruth of Windsor, Scott Adams and his wife Pam of Longmont, currently stationed in Germany, Michael Adams and his wife Julie of Gilbert, Iowa, and David Adams of Longmont; five daughters, Linda Chapman of Fresno, Calif., Dawn Gravil and her husband Jim of Scott City, Mo., Robin Parker of Denver, Janice Adams and her husband Kevin Hill of Longmont and Michelle Adams-Hummel and husband Randy Hummel of Nampa, Idaho; 27 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, June 18, at the Howe Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at LifeBridge Christian Church with Cris Crisfield officiating. Cremation will be held following the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Cancer Care Center of the Longmont United Hospital, 1950 Mountain View Ave., Longmont 80501.
