BANDERET, Francis Harrison
July 6, 1920 - May 22, 2004
Francis Harrison Banderet of Berthoud died Saturday, May 22, 2004, in Longmont.
He was born July 6, 1920, in Paxton, Neb., to Harry and Ella (Welch) Banderet.
After graduating from Paxton High School in 1938, Mr. Banderet farmed with his parents.
On Feb. 9, 1940, he married Nanna Elizabeth Beveridge.
Mr. and Mrs. Banderet moved to Colorado in 1956 with their sons and continued ranching and farming. In addition, Mr. Banderet was part owner of Banderet Equipment, Inc. for 25 years, a long time employee of Great Western Sugar and had invented and patented mobile irrigation equipment.
He enjoyed welding, spending time in his shop with his vintage tractors, traveling, fishing and walking the mountains on his property. He loved spending time with his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Banderet was preceded in death by an infant son, John H. Banderet.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Francis and George; a brother, Ralph Banderet of Carlsbad, Calif.; a sister, Marybelle Purbaugh of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren, Tyrone Banderet, Trevor Banderet, Tod Banderet, Rick Ramage and Cindy Kelley; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Interment was in Paxton. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at Berthoud First United Methodist Church, Ninth and Lake in Berthoud.

BELLAR, Melvin E. 'Pete'
Aug. 6, 1944 - June 8, 2004
Melvin E. 'Pete' Bellar of Longmont died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital of heart failure. He was 59.
He was born Aug. 6, 1944, in Beaumont, Texas, to Eustes and Willie (Morgan) Bellar.
Mr. Bellar was in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965.
He worked in construction before owning a concessions company in Denver.
Mr. Bellar had lived in Boulder County for 10 years, and in Longmont for the past seven years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Bellar is survived by a son, Peter Wilson Bellar; a daughter, Kelly Bellar; and his stepmother, LaMerle Duncan of Center, Texas.
Service times and dates will be announced later.
CARLSON, Roy
Nov. 12, 1919 - June 11, 2004
Roy Harold Carlson, 84, passed away on June 11, 2004, at his home in Longmont. Roy Carlson was born on Nov 12, 1919, on a farm east of Longmont to a pioneer family of Longmont.
He was the son of Frans Gustov and Ellen (Adamson) Carlson. The first member of Roys family came to Longmont in the 1880s. His father immigrated from Ryssby, Sweden to Longmont in 1903. His maternal grandparents came to Longmont in 1885.
Roy married Gwendolyn Reed on Dec. 23, 1947 in Greeley, Colorado. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1998. Roy and his wife, Gwen, along with his sister, Esther, and her husband Coy Foster, visited the land of his fathers birth and his childhood home in Sweden in 1988. Included in their welcome to Sweden was a smorgasbord with over 100 relatives in attendance.
Roy was interested in agriculture all his life. He began farming soon after graduating from Longmont High School in 1938.
He was a cattle feeder and raised crops adaptable to irrigation. Roy was a charter member of the Sirloin Club. Roy was a member of the state judging team from Longmont in 1936 and 1937. During both years he was named the top beef judge in a contest under the supervision of Colorado State University.
He was an officer in the Longmont Rural Fire Protection District. Under his leadership, the voluntary fire district was changed from voluntary to a tax supported district. It was first named the Longmont Fire Protection District and is now called the Mountain View Fire Protection District. The first two stations were located in Mead and Niwot. He served three terms on the board of the Longmont Fire Protection District.
He was also a charter member of the Niwot Water District, serving a term as president, which developed and installed over 700 miles of water lines from Niwot to Frederick.
For many years Roy also served as an election judge for school district elections, as well as Boulder County, state and national elections.
In 1965, Roy left the farm and was employed by Van Schaack Land Company of Denver. He was brokered in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. He served as Broker Associate for the company for 23 years, was vice president of the corporation and responsible for all advertising for the company. He excelled in the sale of farms and ranches.
In 1970-71, Roy and partners developed LaVista Estates, which is adjacent to Longmont Estates, including the streets of University Drive, University Lane, Denver Way and College Court.
Roy was a member of the Assemblies of God Church in Longmont. As a young man, he held offices in the Young Peoples organizations. As an adult, he served as an usher, deacon, trustee, elder and treasurer for a number of years. He was active in the church his entire life.
Roy is survived by his wife, Gwen, and their three children: Rodney Carlson and his wife, Jodi and children, Whitney and Taylor; Randy Carlson and his wife, Jane, and son, Alex; and daughter, Signe Harris and her husband, Kent, and daughter, Kendra Ann. Roy is also survived by one sister, Ruth Oehler, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Raymond Carlson, and sister, Esther Foster.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held on Monday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at Twin Peaks Assembly of God Church on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at 2 p.m.
Donations may be given to Hospice of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, and can be sent care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
FRIESEN, Lowell D.
May 22, 1932 - June 10, 2004
Lowell D. Friesen of Longmont died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 72.
He was born May 22, 1932, in Madrid, Neb., to Gustav and Elma (Wiebe) Friesen.
Mr. Friesen was a 1950 graduate of Madrid High School and went on to graduate from McCook Junior College in 1953.
After his graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.
On July 17, 1955, Mr. Friesen married Carol May Cornelius in Madrid.
He came to Boulder from Nebraska in 1957. In the same year, he began a career with the Boulder Police Department. He was named Deputy Chief of Police for Boulder in 1973. He retired in 1981.
Mr. Friesen moved to Longmont in 1993.
He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles.
Mr. Friesen was a marksman who enjoyed trapshooting. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the FBI Academy and the board of directors of the Boulder Police Pension Board.
He will be remembered for taking pride both in teaching his grandsons to play basketball and in caring for his wife during her illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 28, 2003.
Mr. Friesen is survived by a son, Mark Friesen, of Rollinsville, Colo.; a brother, Jim Friesen and his wife Janet of Lakewood; a sister, Delpha Dekoekkoek and her husband Chuck of Ogallala, Neb.; two grandchildren, Gustav M. Friesen and Abraham W. Friesen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 14, at LifeBridge Christian Church with David Bradshaw of the church officiating.
Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

KNOX, Genevieve L.
Nov. 19, 1917 - June 14, 2004
Genevieve L. Knox of Longmont died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital of natural causes. She was 86.
She was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Glenwood Springs to Vernon E. and Charlotte (Van Horn) Kilgore.
She married Melvin C. Knox in Oak Creek, Colo., on Feb. 26, 1936.
Mrs. Knox was a retired Grand County assessor. She enjoyed golf and bridge.
She lived in Boulder County from 1999 to 2004.
Mrs. Knox was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by two sons, Ike Knox and his wife Yvonne of Hot Sulphur Springs and Jim Knox and his wife Joan of Arvada; a daughter, Audrey Herman and her husband Wayne of Longmont; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
No local services are scheduled. Erlinger Cremation and Funeral Service is handling arrangements.
MEIS, James Alvin
Feb. 10, 1920 - May 28, 2004
James Alvin Meis of Longmont died Friday, May 28, 2004. He was 84.
He was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Ellis County, Kan., to Henry and Sophia (Dorzweiler) Meis. Mr. Meis attended Weskan schools and graduated from Sharon Springs High School as salutatorian in 1938.
After high school, he worked in farming and was part owner of a small theater with his brother.
Mr. Meis married Eileen of Angeles, Kan., on May 16, 1941.
Mr. Meis joined the military and moved to Camp Crowder, Mo. He served as a clerk and was stationed in Okinawa.
In 1946, after his military service, he moved to Cheyenne Wells to manage Bricker-Rexall drug. Mr. and Mrs. Meis later purchased the drug store and built their first home in Cheyenne Wells. They later built a second home there.
The couple sold the drug store and traveled together. Mr. Meis continued farming, eventually with his grandson Monte and his family, who came to Cheyenne Wells to work on the family farm.
Mr. Meis was a city councilman, a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, supporter of the Sacred Heart parish, a veterans service officer and a supporter of community activities.
Mr. Meis was preceded in death by his wife in August 1992; an infant son, Jimmy Lee; 12 brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Johnny.
He is survived by a brother, Lawrence; a daughter, Diana and husband Phillip of Longmont; a son, Ron and his wife Rita; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and an expected great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass was held Wednesday, June 2, at the Sacred Heart Church in Cheyenne Wells with the Rev. George Fagan, celebrant. A recitation of the rosary was held at 7 p.m. June 1 with Theresa Harms leading. Final committal services were held at the Fairview Cemetery with full military honors by the William Kimmell Post No. 9700.

ROM, Christopher
Dec. 17, 1976 - June 11, 2004
Christopher Lindsay Rom of Longmont died Friday, June 11, 2004, in a car accident. He was 27.
He was born Dec. 17, 1976, in Hettinger, N.D., to Lindsay and Linda (Frey) Rom.
After graduating from Minot High School in 1995, Mr. Rom attended Minot State University, where he received a degree in music education and performance.
His love for music took him to International Music Camp in North Dakota and Canada. He was the recipient of the North Dakota Governors Music Award, a 1998 award given by the Music Teachers National Association, and numerous other awards for brass musicians.
He moved to Longmont in 1999. On July 1, 2000, he married Natalia Issatchenko.
In addition to performing music, Mr. Rom worked at IBM and the Denver Newspaper Agency.
He will be remembered as a man who put his family first and always his music second.
Mr. Rom is survived by his parents of Longmont; his wife of Longmont; a daughter, Ahnna Christopherovna Rom of Longmont; a brother, Corey David Rom and his wife Rhonda of Irving, Tex.; his grandmothers, Martha Rom and Ragnhild Frey, both of North Dakota; and his father- and mother-in-law, Nickolai and Zina Issatchenko of Russia.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Monday, June 14, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with Joe Harvey of LifeBridge Christian Church officiating. Inurnment will follow services at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

WHITEHOUSE, Oma Christine
Oct. 29, 1918 - June 11, 2004
Oma Christine Whitehouse of Surprise, Ariz., died Friday, June 11, 2004. She was 85.
She was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Kremmling, Colo., to John F. and Anna L. (Moelling) Derringer. She was the sixth of seven children.
She graduated from high school in Kremmling and went to Denver to complete cosmetology school. She went to work in Longmont and later owned her own shop.
She married Samuel Whitehouse on Oct. 12, 1940, in Longmont. They moved to Denver, then to Scottsbluff, Neb., and from there to Los Angeles.
Mrs. Whitehouse returned to Colorado in 1974 and worked in Broomfield at Siemens until 1986, when she retired and moved to Longmont.
She was a member of Life Bridge Christian Church and attended the Friendly Folks Sunday School Class.
She loved to knit and crochet and enjoyed sharing her creations with friends and family.
Mrs. Whitehouse will be remembered as a loving and caring lady who was always there to help friends or family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, three sisters and a brother.
Mrs. Whitehouse is survived by two daughters, Donna Whitehouse of Whittier, Calif., and Louise Bloom and her husband Bob of Goodyear, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Scott Whitson and his wife Kathy of Goodyear, Dianna Brett and her husband David of Los Alamitos, Calif., Rick Bloom of Phoenix, Randy Bloom and Melissa Richards of Longmont, and Rhonda Lamach and her husband Mark of Longmont; 10 great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Jordan of Longmont, Sean, Brandon and Maxwell of Goodyear, Logan and Devon of Los Alamitos, and Jonathan, Jeremy and Jessica of Phoenix; a sister, Betty Bloom and her husband Albert of Longmont; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the LifeBridge Christian Church, 10345 Ute Highway, Longmont. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver.
