MUDD, Clarence R.
Aug. 16, 1911 - May 28, 2004
Clarence R. Mudd, of Longmont and formerly of Littleton, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 92.
Mr. Mudd was born Aug. 16, 1911, to Lloyd and Alice (Markham) Mudd in Mead.
He farmed in his hometown until 1942, when he moved to Bennett.
On Aug. 28, 1946, he married Betty Grace McDonald. The couple moved to Prospect Valley in 1954, before making Denver their home two years later.
Mr. Mudd had recently moved to Longmont. He enjoyed all sports, particularly basketball, the outdoors, gardening and lawn care.
He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers, Harold, Albert, Johnnie and Glen Mudd and his sister, Viola May Halverson.
Mr. Mudd is survived by his son, Thomas Mudd and his wife Ingrid of Arvada; two daughters, Doris J. Hall or Littleton and Marilyn K. Coppola or Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Nathan Coppola, Lisa Carpenter, Brian Mudd, Michael Mudd, Jaci Mudd, Shawn Hall and Andrea Miner; and four great-grandchildren, Robert Miner, Ashton Miner, Ainsley Miner and Hayden Coppola.
Rosary prayers will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, led by the Rev. Mike Berens.
Mass of the Resurrection with follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Brian Morrow officiating.
Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

PATTRIDGE, Colleen
Oct. 14, 1953 - May 7, 2004
Colleen Pattridge died at her home in Allenspark on Friday, May 7, 2004. She was 50 years old.
Colleen was born Oct. 14, 1953, to Robert and Mel (Livingston) Pattridge in Denver. She grew up in the Denver area. She excelled in the Western Riding Horse Club. She broke her tailbone from a horse accident which never healed properly and caused her problems in later life.
Colleen attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, majoring in journalism, following in the footsteps of her father who edited the Denver Post for many years. She wrote for several of the mountain newspapers throughout her life, including the Boulder Daily Camera, the Nederland Mountain-Ear, the Ward Draw and the Allenspark Wind.
Her interests included writing, fishing and Harley Davidsons.
She is survived by her husband, Eric White; her children, Jesse, Tucker, Krista, Toby, Arron and Justin; two sisters, Laurie Margretta and Linda Thomas; a brother, Gregg Pattridge; and her parents from Denver.
She was preceded in death by two children, Tyler and Quicksilver.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the house she and her family shared, one mile west of Allenspark at 163 County Road 84 W. All are invited for a celebration of her life with a potluck meal after the memorial.
PAXTON, Dorothy W.
Sept. 16, 1916 - May 25, 2004
Dorothy W. Paxton of Boulder died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Boulder Community Hospital. She was 87.
Mrs. Paxton was born Sept. 16, 1916, to William and Bessie (Hornbeck) Wilson in Fairbury, Ill.
In 1934, she married Elmer Knight.
The two later divorced.
Mr. Paxton worked in the food industry most of her life and was interested in flea markets, antiques and other collectables.
She was also a member of the Methodist Church.
In 1960, she married Owen L. Paxton.
She moved to Boulder in 1997.
Mrs. Paxtons Colorado connections include Sterling, where she moved in 1973, and Lyons, where she owned The Sign of the Lion Antique Shop, co-authored a book about the towns history and helped start the Lyons Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and two sons, Don and David Knight.
Mrs. Paxton is survived by her daughter, Doretta Hultquist of Boulder; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held.

RYAN-WEBER, Patricia Blair
Aug. 8, 1946 - May 28, 2004
Patricia Blair Ryan-Weber of Frederick died Friday, May 28, 2004, at her home. She was 57.
She was born Aug. 8, 1946, in Houston to Ralph Waldo and Mary Margaret (Blair) Ryan.
She grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and attended the Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.
She married Larry L. Weber on Aug. 1, 1997, in Frederick.
Mrs. Ryan-Weber moved to Conifer in 1987. She relocated to Lyons, then to Longmont, finally settling in Frederick in 1997.
She was a social worker and had worked for many nonprofit organizations, including VISTA teaching school in the Appalachian Mountains and for North Metro. Most recently, she had worked with the Family Tree program of Jefferson County.
She belonged to the National Wolf Association and to St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Longmont. Mrs. Ryan-Weber loved animals and homeless people and contributed to many charities. An artist, she enjoyed painting. She also enjoyed camping, hiking and playing the piano.
Mrs. Ryan-Weber was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of Frederick; two step-sons, Lance L. Weber and Lane G. Weber and his wife Melissa; two daughters, Amber Spring Anderson and Stephanie Renee Jarrell-Hammond; and three grandchildren, Tristan S. Vratil, Payton R. Vratil and Alexander J. Weber.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 31, at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Family will be present to greet friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church with the Rev. Max Bailey of the church officiating.
Interment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at Ula Cemetery in Westcliffe, Colo.

SIMS, Matt Bryant Jr.
July 7, 1926 - May 10, 2004
Matt Bryant Sims Jr. of Niwot died Monday, May 10, 2004, at his home. He was 77.
He was born July 27, 1926, in Cassville, Mo. to Matt Bryant Sims and Opal Jesse (Hopkins) Sims.
He was married to Lela V. Bishop on Dec. 22, 1949, in Raton, New Mexico.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and was present for the Berlin Airlift in 1948-49.
He served in the Korean war, and was a member of the elite 10th Mountain Division stationed near Copper Mountain.
He was an officer in the Vietnam War.
In 1964, he retired as a major after a 20-year career.
Following his Army career, he worked in civil service for another 20 years in appellate review, living in Anchorage, Alaska, St. Louis, Mo. and Tacoma, Wash.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Canada, Alaska and throughout the United States.
While in Alaska, he owned a set-net Salmon fishing site. In Washington, he owned a 25-foot fishing boat.
He also enjoyed cooking, canning or smoking fish he caught and preparing and sharing meals with family and friends.
He moved to Berthoud in 1994 and to Niwot in 1998.
Following his second retirement he devoted his time to a rhododendron nursery and became a certified master gardener, giving many hours of advice.
He and his wife Lela took two, memorable international trips to Hong Kong and the South Pacific.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lela Sims on Oct. 18, 2000.
He is survived by his daughter, Kate Ross and her husband Richard of Niwot, Colo.; his brothers, Verlyn Sims and his wife June of Greenville, S.C., Robert Sims and his wife Janice of Aurora, Colo., Larry Sims and his wife Margaret of Derby Kansas; five grandchildren, Ashley, Richard, Robert, Betsy and Lyndi.
Memorial services will be held Friday, June 4, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Harvest Baptist Church in Gunbarrel.
Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Contributions may be made to World Vision in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
SONNENBERG, Joan 'Jody' Newman
Oct. 28, 1928 - May 22, 2004
Joan 'Jody' Newman Sonnenberg, a resident of The Academy in Boulder, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, from complications associated with a stroke. She was 75.
She was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Sterling to Howard E. and Genevieve (Lewis) Newman.
She married Robert Eugene Sonnenberg in Amarillo, Texas, on Oct. 18, 1946.
Mrs. Sonnenberg was a lifelong resident of Colorado and spent the last 44 years in Boulder. She was a graduate of the University of Colorado and worked in the physics department as a program assistant until her retirement in November 1990.
She was a consummate bridge player and played both with her lifelong group and with new bridge friends at The Academy. She loved music and played piano.
She enjoyed dancing to big band music with her husband. She loved traveling and being with her family during festive times. She will be remembered as a compassionate friend to many, for maintaining a sharp sense of humor to the end, for her dedication to the support and enjoyment of her children, and for her wit and gentle kindness.
Mrs. Sonnenberg was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years in 1999.
She is survived by a son, Bob Sonnenberg and his wife Nancy of Dumfries, Va.; three daughters, Lynn Hasstedt and her husband Charlie of Parker, Lee ODonnell and her husband Bill of Niwot and Kim Barton of Louisville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1820 15th St. in Boulder, with private inurnment at Mountain View Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1280 S. Parker Road, Denver 80231.

THORNTON, Opal Faye
April 28, 1910 - May 22, 2004
Opal Faye Thornton, a resident of Alterra Wynwood in Boulder, formerly of Longmont, died peacefully on May 22, 2004, at the age of 94.
Faye was born in Grand Junction on April 28, 1910, to Uriah Mack Osborn and Laura Smyth Osborn.
She was raised on a working cattle ranch in the mountains of the Western slope of Colorado and was an accomplished horsewoman.
Graduating from Fruita Union High School in 1928, Faye moved to Grand Junction with her family and attended Mesa Junior College, followed by further education in Denver.
She owned a successful business in Grand Junction and was a member of the Federated Business and Professional Women's Club.
In 1933 Faye was appointed by Governor Ed Johnson as Western Slope Representative to serve three years on a State Board.
She enjoyed travel, family and her Nash Lafayette coupe.
Faye married Harry A. Thornton on May 10, 1938, after a whirlwind romance.
They recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
They settled in Grand Junction where their only son, Kent Alexander Thornton was born, then moved to Montrose where they lived for 22 years.
Faye was a Red Cross volunteer, a member of Sigma Phi sorority and was a charter member of PEO, which was a source of lasting friendships and one of her most cherished activities.
She was a spry dancer and genuinely gracious lady.
She had a sharp wit, a delightful sense of humor and was deeply loved by all who knew her.
Faye is survived by a brother, Dale Osborn of Tucson, Ariz.; her husband, Harry A. Thornton; their son, Kent A. Thornton and his wife Julie and their children, Cody and Dallas, all of Boulder.
She was preceded in death by her first grandson, Casey Alexander.
Services will be held at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, in Boulder on Friday, June 4, 2004, at 2:00 p.m.
