CONGDON, Sheron L.

Apr. 18, 1944 - March 25, 2004

Sharon Lucille Congdon, 59, of Longmont died at her home on Thursday, March 25, 2004.

Sharon was born on April 18, 1944, in Redding, Iowa, to Maynard Byron and Edith Viola (Pritchett) Congdon. She grew up in southern Iowa on a family farm and moved to Lyons with her family in 1949. In 1954, the family moved to Longmont where Sharon graduated from Longmont High School in 1962.

Sharon was a bookkeeper in Colorado and California, but most recently was the main caregiver for her stepfather. She loved animals, especially horses, dogs, and wildlife and was an avid reader. She enjoyed traveling and visited the Holy Land and Finland. Sharon was a gifted musician, playing the piano, organ and performing solos as well as singing in choirs.

She was a devoted Christian and was active in several churches. She toured with the Continental Singers after high school. Later she served on staff with the Mount Hermon Christian Center in Santa Cruz, Calif. She worked for three years with a Christian Missions Organization that sent missionaries to Central America. Sharon served on mission trips to Guatemala and Canada. Sharon related to people very well and shared her faith by teaching church classes, leading home bible studies, and was there to help when and where ever needed in the church and community.

Her parents preceded Sharon in death. She is survived by two sisters, Wilma "Connie" Rowe and her husband Ralph of Mount Hermon, Calif., and Betty Vaiani and her husband Clyde of Vacaville, Calif.; her stepfather, Leonard Loukonen of Longmont; four step-brothers, Ken Loukonen and his wife Margie of Lyons, Mike Loukonen and his wife Debbie of Lyons, Dean Loukonen and his wife Roseann of Longmont, and John Loukonen of Lyons; two stepsisters, Cindy Loukonen and Kathy Loukonen, both of Longmont; nieces and nephews, Jeffery and Mary Anne Vaiani of Vacaville, Calif.; David Rowe and his wife Rose of Napa, Idaho, and Stephen Rowe and his wife Tracy of Clovis, Calif.; and two great-nephews, Stephen and Gregory Rowe of Clovis, Calif. Numerous brothers and sisters in Christ in the Longmont area also survive her.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, March 29, at Foothills Baptist Church in Lyons with Pastor Tom Formby officiating. Private interment will take place at Foothills Gardens of Memory.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Foothills Baptist Church, 12650 N. Foothills Highway, Lyons 80540.

CROWDER, Ruby E.

Dec. 14, 1913 - March 27, 2004

Ruby E. Crowder of Lafayette died Saturday, March 27, 2004, in Boulder. She was 90.

She was born Dec. 14, 1913, to John Franklyn and Lena Margaret (Nye) Craig in Alma, Kan. She attended high school in Pritchett, Colo.

In 1932, she married Cameron Slavens in California. She later married James Thomas Crowder in September 1940 in Carson City, Nev.

Mrs. Crowder was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lafayette, and had lived in Boulder County since 1955.

A homemaker, she enjoyed gardening, baking and canning.

Mrs. Crowder was preceded in death by two sisters, Essie and Bessie.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, James T. Crowder Jr. and his wife Linda of Longmont, David A. Crowder of Longmont and Elven D. Slavens and his wife Marlene of Little Rock, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A private visitation will be held.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, with the Rev. Linda H. Wells officiating.

Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder.

DERKSEN, Ricky 'Rick'

Dec. 16, 1952- March 24, 2004

Ricky 'Rick' Derksen of Firestone died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at the Kindred Hospital in Denver, of complications of the West Nile virus. He was 51.

He was born Dec. 16, 1952, to Donald P. and Lorna B. (Rice) Derksen in Greeley. He attended schools in Greeley and graduated from Hinkley High School in Aurora.

He married Doretta Base in Aurora on July 22, 1971. The family has lived in the Longmont area for the last 30 years.

Mr. Derksen worked for IBM several years ago and more recently had worked for Specialty Products in Longmont. He was also an employee of the city of Longmont as a referee for basketball games and an umpire for softball. He was a USSSA Certified Umpire.

He loved his family and playing softball and enjoyed hiking in the areas near Estes Park. He had been very active until contracting the West Nile virus last August.

Mr. Derksen was preceded in death by his father; a grandmother, Kay Driver; and a brother, Stephen Derksen.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Lorna Miller of Grover; a son, Charlie Derksen of Firestone; two daughters, Melissa Macy of Firestone and Angie Murray and her husband Brian of Longmont; a brother, Jon Derksen and his wife Polly of Hereford; a half-sister, Sandra Morgenstern of Loveland; two granddaughters, Alexa Murray and Breanna Macy; three nephews; and many other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at Howe Mortuary.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 29, in the Howe Mortuary Chapel with Bishop Dennis Sorensen of the Longmont Sixth Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating.

Entombment will follow the services in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to a memorial fund at First Bank, 1250 S. Hover St., Longmont 80501 for the benefit of the family and for transplant research at University Hospital.

DINGMAN, Helen P.

Aug. 1, 1919 - March 26, 2004

Helen Pearl Dingman of Round Lake Beach, Ill., formerly of Longmont, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Round Lake Beach. She was 84.

She was born Aug. 1, 1919, to Daniel and Ethel (Gunn) Fishburn in Boulder. She was a graduate of Longmont High School and remained a lifelong resident of the area until 1998.

On June 15, 1941, she married Leo Willis Dingman in Longmont. The couple worked at Longmont Poultry for many years. She also was a homemaker.

Mrs. Dingman was a devoted member of the Front Range Christian Fellowship in Longmont and later the Liberty Community Church in Lindenhurst, Ill. She enjoyed singing in church choirs and taught Sunday school for many years.

She will be remembered as being a devoted Christian who genuinely loved people, loved life, was always willing to pray for others and assist with any need.

Mrs. Dingman was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 25, 1991.

She is survived by two sons, James Jim Dingman and his wife Cheryl of Lindenhurst and Kent Dingman and his wife Christie of Audubon, Pa.; a brother, Wallace Fishburn of Arizona; a sister, Creta Pingle of Oregon; seven grandchildren, Andrew Dingman, Pamela Dingman, Aaron Dingman, Rebecca Dingman, Stephen Bloomfield, Leslie Bloomfield and Betina Bloomfield; two great-grandchildren, Chantayla Bloomfield and Travis Dingman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 1, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Jefferson of Front Range Christian Fellowship officiating. Interment will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.

DUFOUR, Robina 'Ruby'

Jan. 12, 1937 - March 29, 2004

Robina 'Ruby' Dufour of Longmont died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 67.

She was born Jan. 12, 1937, in Penicuik, Scotland, to Robert and Elizabeth (Bennett) Crerar. She was raised in Scotland.

She met Airman Ronald Dufour in England and married him on Dec. 18, 1954, in Peterborough, England. The couple traveled around Europe and the United States during Mr. Dufours military career, settling in Longmont in 1970.

Mrs. Dufour embarked on a career of her own and worked for 25 years as the manager of the clean room at Ball Aerospace. She retired in 2000.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ladies Elks Auxiliary.

Mrs. Dufour was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Pomfret and her husband, Mike, of Longmont; three sons, Robert Dufour and his wife Juanita of Frederick, Ronald Dufour of Longmont and Rodney Dufour and his wife Karen of Loveland; a sister, Marion Franks of Helpston, England; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Matthew, Michael, Karlie and Cameron Dufour and Danielle, Andrea and Vanessa Pomfret; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Brittany Windom and Rylea Amber and Tyler Dufour.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 31, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Matthew Bolz-Webber officiating.

Cremation was held at the Howe Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Longmont United Hospital Foundation, 2030 W. Mountain View Ave., Longmont 80501.

GORSUCH, Tillson 'Tilly'

GORSUCH, Tillson 'Tilly', 82, of Longmont, died March 30, 2004, at Longmont United Hospital.

LIPIEN, Therese

LIPIEN, Therese, 75, of Longmont, died March 24, 2004, at Boulder Community Hospital. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Mickey Flaska officiating. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Memorial Park, Boulder. Contributions may be made to the St. John's Building Fund, 323 Collyer St., Longmont 80501.

LIVENGOOD, Eunice

LIVENGOOD, Eunice, 95, of Longmont, died March 30, 2004, at Applewood Living Center.

RILEY, John L. 'Jack'

Nov. 2, 1913 - March 27, 2004

John L. Jack Riley died Saturday, March 27, 2004. He was 90.

He was born Nov. 2, 1913, in Lawrence, Kan., where he lived until moving to Longmont in 1969.

Mr. Riley was employed with the Lawrence Post Office, and retired after 34 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy and in the Merchant Marines in World War II.

He married Pauline Ikenberry in June 1936.

Mr. Riley is survived by his wife of 67 years of Golden; a sister, Billie Bliesner of Wheat Ridge; two sons, Jim Riley of Houston and Mike Riley of Arvada; six grandchildren, David Riley, Jason Riley, Allison Grover, Tammy Debry, Meighan Kerr and Delaney Lawless; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, March 30, at Woods Mortuary, 1100 Washington Ave., Golden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Heart Association.

SHAFFER, William Donovan 'Pete"

Oct. 5, 1925 - March 28, 2004

William Donovan Pete Shaffer of Loveland died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at SCCI Aurora Medical Center in Aurora. He was 78.

He was born Oct. 5, 1925, to John D. and Myrtle M. Shaffer in Clearfield, Iowa. He graduated from Clearfield High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy from November 1943 until April 1946.

He married Bettie C. Busby on April 10, 1949, in Clearfield.

After making their home in southern Iowa for 14 years, the family moved to Colorado in 1963. They lived in Boulder, Nederland and Longmont, and in Loveland for the past 10 years.

Mr. Shaffer was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, in the service station business and in the grocery business for most of his life. He retired from Albertsons in 1992 after 20 years of service.

He was a volunteer for the Good Samaritan Village in Loveland and was a member of the American Legion Woodside Post No. 0097 and the UFCW Local 7.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and two grandsons.

Mr. Shaffer is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years of Loveland; two daughters, Karen Lyons of Longmont and Linda Kutscher of Berthoud; a son, Ronald Shaffer of Loveland; two granddaughters; Bonnie Kutscher of Estes Park and Nicole Lyons of Longmont; three grandsons, Brady Kutscher and his wife Stephanie of Wellington, Patrick Kutscher of Estes Park and Dusty Shaffer of Birch Tree, Mo.; a great-granddaughter, Rylee Kutscher of Wellington; two sisters, Fern Spurrier of Clearfield and Margaret Henderson of Lenox, Iowa; a brother, Delbert Shaffer of Lafayette; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Allnutt Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 2, at Allnutt Funeral Service with the Rev. Steve Creel officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 2601 S. LeMay, Fort Collins 80525.

TREVARTON, Mary

TREVARTON, Mary, of Deming, N.M., died March 25, 2004, in Deming. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Foothills Gardens of Memory, with Chaplain Mike Gerhardt officiating. Contributions may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 32, P.O. Box 53, Longmont 80502.

WAGNER, Imogene

July 28, 1931 - March 26, 2004

Imogene Wagner of Berthoud died Friday, March 26, 2004, at her home. She was 72.

Mrs. Wagner was born July 28, 1931, to Joe and Mabel (Carver) Sinkhorn in Eads. Her family moved to Longmont when she was 4. She graduated from Longmont High School in 1949.

She married Bill Wagner in Longmont on Nov. 21, 1951. Together they owned and operated Wagner Welding Supply until Mr. Wagners death in 1997.

Mrs. Wagner was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Longmont Chapter. During the past few years she volunteered her time to residents at The Bridge and to a number of Senior Center functions and outings. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and with close friends, especially day and weekend trips.

She moved to Berthoud in 2001 to live with her daughter.

Mrs. Wagner was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Viola Summy and Lois Miller; and three brothers, Richard, Clyde and Robert Sinkhorn.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Kay Peif and her husband Gary of Berthoud; a grandson, Drew Peif and his wife Veronicia of Dacono; and a sister, Virginia Gorsuch and her husband Tillson Gorsuch of Longmont.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Lewis officiating.

Cremation was held at Howe Mortuary and Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Berthoud Area Transportation in care of Berthoud Senior Center, 248 Welch Ave., Berthoud 80513.
