ROBINSON, Courtland N.

July 26, 1935 - Feb. 9, 2004

Courtland Norman Robinson of Longmont died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at his home. He was 68.

Mr. Robinson was born July 26, 1935, in Richmond, Va., to Courtland Alexander and Lottie Pearl (Olphin) Robinson.

On Sept. 16, 1967, he married Margetta Elose (Parker) Gardner in Washington, D.C.

He received his doctorate from the University of Utah and worked as a scientist, engineer and professor. He was employed as a scientist in numerous technical capacities at AT&T Bell Laboratories in North Andover, Mass., and Atlantic Research Corporation in Alexandria, Va. He had extensive experience in the microelectronics and aerospace industries in the governmental and private sectors.

Mr. Robinson was a principal technical and specialist manager at Sheldahl Inc. of Longmont following his work with AT&T Bell Laboratories and Atlantic Research Corporation.

He had authored many technical publications and taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Lehigh University and the University of Utah. He was also a consultant in the field of microelectronics packaging. He retired in 1999.

He was a member of Sigma Xi, the Longmont Rotary Club and the Transportation Board. He attended Calvary Church and enjoyed football, golf, billiards, bridge, chess and furniture restoration.

Mr. Robinson moved to Longmont in 1995.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Douglas James Gardner in 2000.

Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Margetta Elose Robinson of Longmont; two sons, Rommel Andre Gardner and his wife Maria of Van Nuys, Calif., and Jarrel Andrew Gardner and his wife Linda of El Cajon, Calif.; a brother, Ira Lawrence Robinson of Irvine, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Derek, Doriana, Trevor, Brian, Issac, Jarrel A. Jr., Yolanda and Joilisa Gardner; a great-granddaughter, Kayla Gardner; a grandniece, Jasmine D. Tookes; two nephews, Marcus A. Robinson and Edwin C. Parker; three nieces, Cary D. Robinson, Barbara Hill and Wanda M. Stewart; and three sisters-in-law, Elvie N. Barbour, Ruth Singleton and Mrs. Charles Loggins.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay St., Longmont, with the Rev. Tom Hovestol officiating.

Interment will be in Foothills Gardens of Memory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Church Deacon Fund, 2101 Gay St., Longmont 80501.

SCOTT, Richard H. Jr.

Dec. 28, 1984 - Feb. 8, 2004

Richard H. Scott Jr. of Longmont, formerly of Sterling, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, in Longmont. He was 19.

Mr. Scott was born Dec. 28, 1984, in Colorado Springs to Richard H. and Tina M. (Reynolds) Scott.

In 2003 he moved from Sterling to Longmont where he received his General Educational Development degree.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his grandfather, Don Reynolds.

He is survived by his father of Longmont; his mother of Sterling; three sisters, Jennifer M. Scott, Christina L. Scott and Donyale K. Scott, all of Sterling; and his grandparents, Bettie Reynolds of Caņon City and Joseph and Louise Keeler of Springfield, Mass.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Sterling with the Rev. Jim Nash officiating.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.

SICILANO, Justin Vernon

Nov. 26, 1973 - Jan. 29, 2004

Justin Vernon Sicilano of Windsor, formerly of Boulder and Longmont, died Jan. 29, 2004, in an auto accident. He was 30.

Born Nov. 26, 1973, in Point Pleasant, N.J., he was the son of Michael Sicilano and Linda (Boyette) Perrin.

He never married and completed 11 years of school. He was self-employed as a landscaper. He enjoyed fishing, camping and cars. He loved people and was filled with compassion for others.

Mr. Sicilano was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.

Survivors include his father, of France; one brother, Neil Perrin of Virginia; and one son, Michael Sicilano of Longmont.

Funeral services will be private.

Erlinger Cremation and Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

STEWART, Rickey Lee 'Rick'

March 26, 1954 - Feb. 9, 2004

Rickey 'Rick' Lee Stewart of Longmont died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at the Medical Center of Aurora. He was 49.

Mr. Stewart was born March 26, 1954, in Denver to Shirley Ann (Halcomb) and Horace Ray Stewart. He grew up in Denver and lived his whole life in the metro Denver area. He graduated from Alameda High School in Lakewood.

Mr. Stewart served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the Pacific.

On March 15, 2003, he married Kathleen Dawson in Longmont.

Mr. Stewart worked for Geneva Pharmaceuticals for 16 years, beginning in 1983. More recently, he worked for Confi-Dental Products in Louisville.

He belonged to the Harley Owners Group and was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast. He enjoyed fishing, golf, hot rods, motorcycles and trucks. He will be remembered for his sense of humor.

Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his father in December 1980.

He is survived by his wife of Longmont; his mother, Shirley Ann Hamamoto and her husband Stan of Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepbrother, Gary Hamamoto of California; two sisters, Gennie Stewart of Denver and Penny Greenhagen of Mesa, Ariz.; a stepsister, Sandra Hamamoto of Hawaii; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cremation is being handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with Stan Hamamoto officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

VENABLE, Stephen Royce

May 19, 1955 - Feb. 6, 2004

Stephen Royce Venable of Longmont died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in an airplane crash on Elk Mountain in Wyoming. He was 48.

Mr. Venable was born May 19, 1955, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to Charles Louis and Virginia (Smith) Venable. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1973 and served as a staff sergeant during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1983 with a bachelor of science degree in computer science.

He married Elaine Bittinger on April 13, 1974, in Walkersville, Md. They lived in Huntsville, Ala.; Mobile, Ala.; and Palm Bay, Fla.; before moving to Longmont in 1999.

Mr. Venable was employed as a software manager for LSI Logic in Boulder and had previously worked for QMS in Mobile, VMIC in Huntsville and StorageTek in Melbourne, Fla.

He was an active member of Vinelife Community Church and loved his family, flying, skiing, golfing and motorcycling. He was a first lieutenant in the Colorado Civil Air Patrol and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

Mr. Venable is survived by his wife of Longmont; two daughters, Rebecca and Sarah Venable of Longmont; a son, Jason Venable of Longmont; his parents of Salisbury, Md.; three brothers, Matthew Venable and his wife Denice of Springdale, Ark., Robert Venable and his wife Linda of Franklin, Tenn., and Alexander Venable and his wife Michelle of New Market, Md.; and a sister, Linda Kirchner and her husband William of Sparks, Md.

A celebration of Mr. Venables life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Vinelife Community Church, 7845 Lookout Road, Gunbarrel. The Rev. Robert Baker will officiate.

Private graveside services with full military honors will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Venable Childrens Education Fund in care of FirstBank of Longmont, Twin Peaks Branch, 1250 S. Hover St., Longmont 80501.

WALSH, Donna L.

Feb. 8, 1941 - Feb. 4, 2004

Donna L. Walsh, beloved wife, mother and grandmother was taken to be with our Lord God on Feb. 4, 2004, at her home at 4860 Egret Drive, Frederick.

Donna was 62 years of age and lost a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was held in her husbands arms at the time of her death with family and friends nearby.

Donna was born in Chicago on Feb. 8, 1941. Donna was married to Darrell E. Walsh on Aug. 8, 1992, in Springfield, Mo.

Donna (Johnson) Walsh, her husband and dependent granddaughter, Jordan, moved to Frederick in 2000 and are members of LifeBridge Christian Church.

Donna was dearly loved by all of her family and friends and will be remembered for her warm loving smile, infectious laugh, energy and zest for life. Donna knew no strangers and brought joy and love to all who knew her. She thanked God every day for blessing her life with so much love.

Donna was fondly referred to as Nana by her grandchildren and our neighbors children. Donna and her husband, Darrell, shared unconditional love for God and for each other.

Donna had a special bond with her granddaughter, Jordan Reynolds, who is 11 years old. Donna and her husband, Darrell, have been raising her since she was 31/2 years old.

Donna was a wonderful homemaker and worked for Childrens Court Return Services in Southern California.

Donna asked that all her family and friends know and remember how much she loved them and enjoyed them and that her greatest wish was for them to commit their lives to serving God until joining her in Heaven.

Donna was preceded in death by her father, the Rev. Earl Howard Johnson of Springfield, and mother, Ruby (Hoffman) Johnson, of Springfield.

Donna is survived by her husband, Darrell E. Walsh, of Frederick; six sons, Jeff Galkin of San Clemente, Calif., Brett Gailen of Hemet, Calif., Matthew (Rocky) Gailen of Newport Beach, Calif., Brent Walsh and Tammy of Lake Forest, Calif., Brooks and Jenny Walsh of Lincoln, Neb., and Bryce Walsh and Shena of Columbus, Neb.; two daughters, Stacy Shaw of Redlands, Calif., and Joyce Wilsey and James of Firestone; one brother, Raymond Johnson and Raylene of Galena, Mo.; one sister, Marion Ligon and Bill of Joplin, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Jordan Reynolds, Clay Johnson, Casey Johnson, Jennifer Shaw, Brett OBrien, Matthew Gailen, Brian Walsh, Nickolas Walsh, Kirstie Walsh, Christopher Walsh, Chandler Walsh, Danny Walsh and Dylan Walsh; and special longtime friends Steve Penn of Long Beach, Calif., and Bob and Ashley Chansler of Mead.

Special Thank you to Anschutz Cancer Center, Heartland Hospice and LifeBridge Christian Church, for the loving care and support they provided her.

Visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, with family present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Rick Rusaw of LifeBridge Christian Church officiating.

Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to LifeBridge Christian Church building fund can be sent care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

BASTA, George

April 22, 1928 - March 22, 2004

George Basta of Surface Creek, Cedaredge, Colo., died Monday, March 22, 2004, at his residence. He was 75.

He was born April 22, 1928, to Vaso and Mary (Rodmon) Basta in Pueblo. He spent his childhood and graduated from high school in Longmont.

Mr. Basta served in the Korean War from Nov. 24, 1950, to Aug. 29, 1952, when he was honorably discharged. He owned and operated many businesses in the Lakewood area.

On April 16, 1976, he married Marlene Joseph in Las Vegas.

The couple moved to Cedaredge in 1995. Mr. Basta had been a bus driver for school district No. 50 and was fond of many of the children who rode his bus.

He will be remembered as a caring and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many. He enjoyed golf, fishing, gardening and his family.

Mr. Basta was preceded in death by his first wife Marianne Kay; a son, Stacey Ledon Basta; and a brother, Danny Basta.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years of Cedaredge; four daughters, Julie Ann Kenville of Lakewood, Cheryl Lynne Robinson, Debi Renee Joseph of Tallahassee, Fla., and Georgina Kay Dotsch-Basta of Edwards; two sons, Gary Dean Joseph of Castle Rock and Kader Dennis Joseph of Eagle; five sisters; two brothers; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Basta; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Horan and McConaty Funeral Chapel in Lakewood, followed by inurnment at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements are being handled by Horan and McConaty Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Julie Kenville on behalf of the George Basta family.

CARBAUGH, Lon 'Lonnie' A.

Nov. 3, 1933 - March 25, 2004

Lon A. 'Lonnie' Carbaugh of Estes Park died of leukemia Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Larimer County Hospice. He was 70.

He was born Nov. 3, 1933, in Longmont to Kent and Nellie (Kidd) Carbaugh. He graduated from Greeley High School in 1951 and from Colorado A&M in 1955 with a bachelors degree in bacteriology.

He married Peggy Kinney in Greeley in 1954.

Mr. Carbaugh served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, attaining the rank of first lieutenant. Following his discharge from the Army, he lived in Greeley, Scottsbluff, Neb., and Bismarck, N.D., before moving to Longmont in 1967.

He was employed with Nolans Crop Dusting Company for three years, with J.R. Simplot as a district manager for 27 years and Anderson Seed Company before finishing his career with Sharp Brothers Seed Company, retiring in February 1999.

Mr. Carbaugh and his wife moved to Estes Park from Longmont in 2000. He enjoyed the wildlife and birds and became a photographer of wildflowers. He was a member of the Community Church of the Rockies and was formerly a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont.

He is survived by this wife of Estes Park; a sister, Patsy James of Johnstown; three sons; Kent and his wife Tari of Bartlesville, Okla., Kevin and his wife Sharon of Greeley and Karey of Longmont; a daughter, Kristin and her husband Glenn McWilliams of Littleton; seven grandchildren; three nieces; and four nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Central Presbyterian Church of Longmont with the Revs. Frank Jonke of Community Church of the Rockies and Dr. Glenn Perica of Central Presbyterian Church officiating. Cremation was held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.
