CREEL, Karin

Jan. 11, 1954 - Oct. 27, 2002

Karin Creel of Longmont died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at her home of lung cancer. She was 48.

She was born Jan. 11, 1954, to Erhardt and Christa (Dietrich) Schade in Hanover, Germany.

On Oct. 1, 1983, she married Steven Creel in Laramie, Wyo. In 1996, they moved to Longmont from Julesburg.

Mrs. Creel was a surgical tech at Longmont United Hospital. She had also worked as a Colorado extension agent for Colorado State University in Julesburg. She worked at numerous jobs throughout her life.

In 1998, she returned to school and graduated with honors from the Concorde Institute in Denver.

She will be remembered as a powerful person who loved hiking, fishing and traveling. She will also be remembered for the wildflower garden at her home that signaled the coming of spring for the neighborhood.

Mrs. Creel was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Schade.

She is survived by her parents of Troy, Mich.; her husband, the Rev. Steve Creel of Longmont; a son, Christopher Adams of Sacramento, Calif.; three brothers, Mick Schade of Casper, Wyo., Brian Schade and Steve Schade of Troy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Howe Mortuary, Longmont, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Longs Peak United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Moseley of First United Methodist Church in Paragould, Ark., officiating. The casket will remain closed at the services, with cremation to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to Longs Peak United Methodist Church, 1421 Elmhurst Drive, Longmont 80503.

EVANS, Louise May

March 26, 1910 - Oct. 26, 2002

Louise May Evans of Longmont died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at the Life Care Center of Longmont. She was 92.

She was born March 26, 1910, to Leon and Nellie Burbank in Massachusetts.

Mrs. Evans moved to Longmont in 1994 from Boston to live closer to her son.

She is survived by a son, Richard Melanson of Longmont; two sisters, Thelma Kenerson of Massachusetts and Mildred Phillips of Florida; and five grandchildren.

A private cremation was held at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Evans name to Hospice of Boulder County in care of Howe Mortuary.

GONZALES, Maria Jesse

May 23, 1923 - Oct. 23, 2002

Maria Jesse Gonzales of Denver and formerly of Longmont died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Rose Medical Center in Denver. She was 79.

She was born May 23, 1923, in Juarez, Mexico.

She married Edubijes Gonzales, who preceded her in death on July 27, 2001.

Mrs. Gonzales lived most of her adult life in Longmont, where she raised her children. She moved to Denver in 1999 to live with and be cared for by her daughter Marie Rose.

She is survived by nine sons, Porfillo and his wife Priscilla, Guadalupe of Denver, and John, Vincent, Edubijes III, Joe, Leo, Felix and Merce, all of Longmont; three daughters, Mary Garcia and her husband Tom of Longmont, Sylvia Gonzales of Longmont and Marie Rose Zapata of Denver; 25 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery, with the Rev. Daniel Maestas of New Creation and Life Changing Center in Denver officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Howe Mortuary.

HARTWELL, James Jeffery

Sept. 11, 1977 - Oct. 19, 2002

James Jeffery Hartwell of Longmont died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, in Colorado Springs. He was 25.

He was born Sept. 11, 1977, to Roy and Mary (Erikson) Hartwell in Sidney, N.Y.

Mr. Hartwell worked as a bank teller and was a student at Front Range Community College.

He is survived by his parents; a sister, Stephanie Bell; two nieces, Alexendria and Michaela Bell; his fiancee, Phanneth Chan; and many friends.

Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Holy Apostles Church, 4295 N. Carefree, Colorado Springs.

Mountain View Mortuary in Colorado Springs is handling arrangements.

HODGE, Jim

Oct. 25, 1925 - Oct. 28, 2002

Jim Hodge of Firestone died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at his home. He was 77.

He was born Oct. 25, 1925, to Edward and Flora (Carter) Hodge in Belle, Mo.

On Nov. 21, 1948, he married Katherine Alice Messenger in Denver.

Mr. Hodge served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1953 and 1954 to 1956. He served in Guam.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years. He was a supervisor of Terminal Annex Denver until September 1981. He was also a security guard at Maxtor for 10 years and the mayor of Dacono from 1987 to 1991.

Mr. Hodge moved to Denver from St. Louis in 1947, to Dacono in 1978 and to Firestone in 1991.

He was a member of New Horizons Christian Church.

Mr. Hodge was a life member of Post 2601 Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 32, a past district commander of VFW and a member of Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed traveling and golfing.

Mr. Hodge was preceded in death by his wife in 1988.

He is survived by a son, James H. Hodge Jr. and his wife Mary of Staten Island, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Cary and Ricky Hodge; two nieces, Lucille Finn and her husband Richard of Belle and Louise Finn and her husband Leonard of Belle; and his best friend, Pennie Culbertson of Firestone and her family.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at New Horizons Christian Church in Dacono, with Pastor Rob Thomas of the church officiating.

Interment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Graveside military honors will be provided by VFW Post 2601.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County or New Horizons Christian Church in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

HOPMAN, Mildred Elizabeth

April 18, 1931 - Oct. 26, 2002

Mildred Elizabeth Hopman of Longmont died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Boulder Community Hospital. She was 71.

She was born April 18, 1931, in Redwood Falls, Minn., to Austin Peter and Loretta Mary (Amberg) Morley.

She married Vernon Hopman on Oct. 16, 1952, in Redwood Falls, Minn.

Mrs. Hopman was a homemaker and mother. She moved to Boulder in 1953 from Minnesota.

From 1969 to 1989, she and her husband lived in several western Colorado and Arizona communities. She moved to Longmont in 1989.

Since the early 1990s, she enjoyed serving her church and parish community as a Stephen minister at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Mrs. Hopman loved to read, cook and travel to Minnesota to visit family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Michael Morley.

Mrs. Hopman is survived by her husband of Longmont; five sons, Jim Hopman and his wife Juliana of Denver, Steve Hopman and his wife Eunice of Longmont, Bill Hopman of Boulder, Larry Hopman and his wife Denise of Longmont, and Joe Hopman and his wife Rose of Longmont; two brothers, Pete Morley of Manohmen, Minn., and Bud Morley of Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Kathleen Repstein of Rapid City; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 30, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the church, with the Rev. Mickey Flaska celebrant.

Cremation will be held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Inurnment will take place at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

HOWARD, Lawrence Laron

Dec. 2, 1980 - Oct. 25, 2002

Lawrence Laron Howard of Santa Ana, Calif., formerly of Longmont, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in Las Vegas. He was 21.

He was born Dec. 2, 1980, to Lawrence Howard and Barbara McLean in Long Beach, Calif.

Mr. Howard loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He also loved listening to music. He will be remembered for his playful attitude.

Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his mother and two uncles, Buster and Mark.

He is survived by his grandmother, Virginia Osborne of Santa Ana; a brother, Lamont Morgan and his wife Andrea of Longmont; a sister, Keisha McLean and her husband Stand of Irvine, Calif.; four nieces, Lonie, Kimberly, Marissa and Alexandria; three nephews, Rauly, Stand and Skye; four uncles, Thomas of Atlanta, and Leon, Jack and Johnnie, all of Santa Ana; an aunt, Peggy and her husband Mark; and numerous cousins.

KRAUSMAN, Katie A.

May 18, 1930 - Oct. 26, 2002

Katie A. Krausman of Erie died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 72.

She was born May 18, 1930, in Abarr, Colo., to John H. Kunzie and Eva Mae (Johns) Kunzie.

She married Karl Krausman on June 25, 1971, in Denver.

Mrs. Krausman was a homemaker. She moved to Erie from Denver in 1972.

She was an active volunteer for the O.U.R. Center of Longmont and for Colorado Shares.

Mrs. Krausman was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont. She enjoyed sewing, handicrafts and bowling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Kunzie; and a son, William Krausman, in 1988.

She is survived by her husband of Longmont; a son, David Kleiboeker of Erie; two daughters, Carolyn Kleiboeker of Erie and Linda Krausman of Longmont; four sisters, Lela Schafer of Commerce City, Nora Tracy of Denver, Laverne Curtis of Fernley, Nev., and Laura D. Wells of Commerce City; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce Berquist officiating. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the O.U.R. Center in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

MARRER, Donald S.

Feb. 8, 1918 - Oct. 1, 2002

Donald S. Marrer, formerly of Longmont, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, in Chandler, Ariz. He was 84.

He was born Feb. 8, 1918, in Elmira, N.Y.

Mr. Marrer served the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II.

He worked for IBM for 32 years. He was transferred to Colorado in 1974 and retired in 1980. He moved to Arizona in 1995.

Mr. Marrer is survived by his wife, Lois, of Chandler; two sons, Steve Marrer and Thomas Marrer; two daughters, Sandra Marrer and Linda LaCoursiere; and a brother, Leo Marrer of Florida.

The funeral and services were held Saturday, Oct. 5, in New York.

PORTA, Albert

Aug. 1, 1910 - Oct. 24, 2002

Albert Porta, a lifelong resident of Louisville, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Hospice of Boulder Care Center. He was 92.

He was born Aug. 1, 1910, to Henry and Edith (Zarina) Porta in Louisville.

In 1935, he married Helen R. Bean in Kimball, Neb.

Mr. Porta was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a coal miner and plumber. He spent 12 years as a pipe fitter at Rocky Flats.

Mr. Porta was a trap shooter who was inducted into the Trap Shooting Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Mr. Porta is survived by a brother, Arthur Porta of Littleton; two sisters, Elaine Elrod of Louisville and Virginia Markham of Westminster; and a nephew, Gary Elrod.

Private services and inurnment have been held at Lafayette City Cemetery.
