SWAZOE, Gregory Ryan

April 8, 1982 - Oct. 15, 2001

Gregory Ryan Swazoe of Trinidad, formerly of Longmont, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, in Denver. He was 19.

He was born April 8, 1982, to Gregory B. and Theresa (Venette) Swazoe in La Junta, Colo.

He lived in Longmont from 1987 to 1998.

A graduate of Trinidad Catholic High School, Mr. Swazoe was a student of Trinidad State Junior College.

Mr. Swazoe was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He loved art projects, listening to music, burning CDs and snowboarding. He was an avid collector with numerous collections.

Mr. Swazoe was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother, Theresa Lucero and her husband Steve of Longmont; a sister, Desirae Swazoe of Longmont; his grandparents, Audrey Swazoe of Trinidad and Fred and Cheryl Venette of Albuquerque, N.M.; and his great-grandmother, Agnes Venette of Centennial, Colo.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints, 1721 Red Cloud Road, Longmont, with Bishop Kesley Andersen officiating.

Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Park in Evergreen.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are being handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel

STILLWELL, Jerry E.

STILLWELL, Jerry E., 79, of Longmont, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital. Visitation 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. The family will be present to greet friends. Funeral service 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Entombment in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum. Military honors by Longs Peak VFW Post 2601. Contributions to the WWII Memorial in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.

THOMPSON, Helen M.

June 23, 1944 - Oct. 11, 2001

Helen M. Thompson of Longmont died of cancer Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Life Care Center, Longmont. She was 57.

She was born June 23, 1944, to August Anton and Lydia Mae (Sullenger) Kretschman in Etcheta, Wyo.

She married Larry Tibbets in Sheridan, Wyo., in 1963. They were later divorced. On March 25, 1978, she married Stan Thompson in Golden. They were divorced in 1997.

Mrs. Thompson had been employed with Microsemi in Boulder and Western Delivery in Denver.

She enjoyed country music, dancing and cross-stitching.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Robert H. Kretschman.

She is survived by three daughters, Robin Brown and her husband Kent of Estes Park, Terri Tibbets of Billings, Mont., and Randi Tibbets of Sheridan, Wyo.; three brothers, Herb Kretschman and his wife Nancy and Johnny Kretschman and his wife Ellen, all of Arvada, Wyo., and Carl Kretschman and his wife Ardena of Weston, Wyo.; and a sister, Ann Franklin of Deadwood, S.D.

Private burial will be held in Wyoming.

Arrangements are being handled by Erlinger Cremation and Funeral Service, Longmont.

THORDARSON, Sally Kay Kristine

July 26, 1940 - Oct. 15, 2001

Sally Kay Kristine Thordarson of Longmont died of natural causes Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder. She was 61.

She was born July 26, 1940, to T.W. and Kathryn (Olafson) Thordarson in Milwaukee.

In 1961, she married Kent Kirkevold in North Dakota. They later divorced.

Ms. Thordarson was a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

She was the owner of LiFE Company (Latex Free Essentials) in Longmont. She volunteered much of her time educating organizations and individuals regarding living with latex allergies.

Ms. Thordarson was a member of the Lutheran Church and a volunteer for the Phoenix Society, helping burn survivors and their families.

She was a former longtime resident of Boulder; Colorado Springs; Sunnyvale, Calif.; St. Paul, Minn.; and Fargo, N.D.

Ms. Thordarson is survived by three sons, Thomas Kirkevold and his wife Lisa of Sacramento, Calif., Timothy Kirkevold of Broomfield and Matthew Kirkevold and his wife Camie of Longmont; five grandchildren; and her former husband.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 18, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, 503 Terry St., Longmont.

A celebration-of-life service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Stuenkel of the University Lutheran Church officiating.

A second funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, with the Rev. Kris Gordon officiating. Services will conclude with cremation.

Memorial contributions may be made to Penrose Hospital Burn Unit, 2215 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs 80907 or The Phoenix Society, 2153 Wealthy St. SE, Suite 215, East Grand Rapids, MI 49506.

Arrangements are being handled by M.P. Murphy and Associates, 2572 Paintbrush Lane, Lafayette.

Elizabeth Wacker

Jan. 18, 1908 - Oct. 17, 2001

Elizabeth Wacker of Longmont died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at her home following a brief illness. She was 93.

She was born Jan. 18, 1908, in Norka, Russia, to Conrad and Katherine (Fink) Schmer. The family immigrated to the United States from Russia in 1910 and lived in several places before settling in the Berthoud area in 1916. The family later farmed land west of Longmont and then moved to the Niwot area.

On March 30, 1930, she married Daniel C. Wacker Sr. in Fort Morgan.

The couple farmed in the Niwot area until 1946 and then in the Berthoud area until 1961, when they moved to Longmont.

Mrs. Wacker played the piano for the Berthoud Salem Congregational Church for many years.

She enjoyed playing the piano and continued to do so until very recently. She also enjoyed working in the garden, growing roses, going for walks and watching the geese in the park.

Mrs. Wacker was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 23, 1999; an infant son in 1941; and a sister, Christina Wacker, in April 2000.

She is survived by a son, Daniel C. Wacker Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Fort Morgan; three daughters, Marian Baker and her husband Bob of Trenton, Ga., Dorothy Davis and her husband Dean of Longmont and Darlene Wacker of Longmont; six grandchildren, Sharon Smith, Beth Loveday, Bob and Steve Davis, and Paul and Kelly Wacker; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 19, at Howe Mortuary, Longmont.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Howe Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Allen Elder officiating.

Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

ARGO, Neil

ARGO, Neil, 84, of Longmont, died Dec. 4, 2001, at his residence.

BAUER, Josetta

March 22, 1941 - Dec. 7, 2001

Josetta Bauer of Denver died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at the Spearley Care Center in Denver. She was 60.

Born March 22, 1941, in Cottonwood, Minn., she was the daughter of Floyd Hart and Lucille Elizabeth (Pharr) Hart. She moved to Colorado in 1959.

She worked in assembly at Western Cutlery. She enjoyed fishing, camping and stock car races. She was known as a loving, compassionate person who loved to cook and entertain.

Survivors include two sons, David Lee Bauer of Longmont and Ricky Allen Bauer and his wife Carol of Filmore, Utah; four daughters, Victoria Anne Troyer and her husband Gary of Berthoud, Darlene Marie Hawley and her husband Gary of Sublette, Kan., Danita Jo Bauer of Longmont, and Debra Sue Evans of Washington; her mother of Longmont; two brothers, Melvin Hart of Longmont and Ernest Hart of Texas; a sister, Corrine Hammons of Sterling; her former husband, Frank Wilson Bauer of Valentine, Neb.; 26 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Cremation has been held at Howe Mortuary and Crematory in Longmont.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Howe Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Marilyn Boeke officiating.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of Denver in care of Howe Mortuary.

COPEN, Dennis

COPEN, Dennis, 58, of Longmont, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont. Services will conclude at the mortuary, with additional services and interment to be held in Huntington Beach, Calif.

CROWELL, Melvin E.

July 1, 1926 - Dec. 6, 2001

Melvin Ellis Crowell died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at VA Hospital in Hot Springs, S.D. He was 75.

Born July 1, 1926, in Milliken, he was the son of Chester and Arlina Crowell. He married Beverly Edna Farley on April 23, 1947, in Lafayette.

After her death on Oct. 8, 1988, Mr. Crowell married Helen McKibbon in July 1992.

During the early years of their marriage, he and Beverly resided in Wheat Ridge and later moved to Longmont, where he was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He recently attended Bible Baptist Church of Chadron, Neb.

He worked as a supervisor for AT&T until his retirement. He was a HAM radio enthusiast, enjoyed working with electronics, and owned and restored older cars.

He served in the Navy during World War II, helping to escort troops into Normandy on D-Day. He received the Purple Heart and a presidential citation. He was a member of the Underage Veterans of America.

Over the past few years, he served as commander and vice commander of the Sheridan County (Neb.) American Legion. He also served on the airport authority board and park board and was president of the Rotary Club during his years in Nebraska.

Viewing will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11. A closed-casket service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 833 15th Ave., Longmont, with the Rev. Marion Fast officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Baptist Church building fund in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

EVANS, Wes

July 12, 1926 - Nov. 30, 2001

Wes Evans of Poteau, Okla., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Sallisaw, Okla. He was 75.

He was born July 12, 1926.

Mr. Evans served in the U.S. Army.

A longtime resident of Longmont, he had been the manager of Cummins Shoe Store in Longmont.

Mr. Evans was an active member of Columbine Lions Club in Longmont.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene Buttress Evans; his second wife of 48 years, Wanda Whitman Evans; a brother, James; and a sister, Opal Lucille.

Mr. Evans his survived by his wife, Juanita Evans; five stepdaughters, Lillian Yurek of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mary Dike of Steamboat Springs, Janice Evans of Tulsa, Okla., Jeanne Brown of Muskogee, Okla., and Joyce Palmer of Lindale, Texas; a stepson, James Evans of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Gladys Pierce of Salina, Okla.; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous relatives and loved ones; and many beloved friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, with the Rev. Robert Alexander officiating. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

GHESQUIERE, Ferilda

March 10, 1921 - Dec. 9, 2001

Ferilda Virginia Ghesquire of Longmont died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 80.

She was born March 10, 1921, to Camiel Pierre and Helen Elaine (Daleman) Arys in Longmont.

On May 22, 1941, she married Frank Ghesquire in Mead.

Following her marriage, she moved to the Ghesquire family farm near Mead, returning to Longmont in 1960, after her husband's retirement.

Mrs. Ghesquire continued to raise farm animals, including horses and cows, and took much pride in caring for her flower gardens. She dedicated much of her attention and time to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Frans Ayres; and a sister, Phyllis Ghesquire.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Linda Anderson and her husband Robert; two grandchildren, Jeff Anderson and his wife Ronda, and Keri Anderson; and five great-grandchildren, Justin, Samantha, Kyleigh, Kaeden and Kaelen Anderson, all of Longmont.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. through the rosary Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Howe Mortuary.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Howe Mortuary Chapel, led by Mr. Steve DePlato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont. Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
