MARTINEZ, John Jr., 41, of Longmont, died April 7, 2001, at his parents' home.
Edna E. Mason
March 16, 1898 - April 6, 2001
Edna E. Mason of Longmont died Friday, April 6, 2001, at her home. She was 103.
A resident of Colorado since 1920, Mrs. Mason was a homemaker and mother who helped her husband farm land near Genoa and Rovina for many years.
She was born March 16, 1898, in Greenwood, Neb., to Thomas and Emma C. (Erickson) Hansen.
She married Lowell Perry Mason in Nebraska before moving to eastern Colorado. He preceded her in death in 1967.
Mrs. Mason then moved to Longmont.
A member of the Central Presbyterian Church, she enjoyed knitting and sewing. Mrs. Mason helped make quilt tops, which the church gave to migrant farmworkers, and also knitted baby caps for Longmont United Hospital.
She was a member of the Columbine Women's Club of Lincoln County Colorado.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Vaughn and Claire Peterson; and a daughter, Edna Jeanne Wise.
Survivors include two daughters, Bette Jo Bostrom of Longmont and Lois June Burrous of Coupeville, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Marilyn Yoder Boeke officiating. Cremation will be at the funeral chapel, and private inurnment will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
MILLER, Katherine
July 1, 1908 - April 7, 2001
Katherine Miller of Greeley died Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit in Greeley. She was 92.
She was born July 1, 1908, in Odessa, Russia, to Fred and Anna (Kammerzell) Krenning.
She moved to Lincoln, Neb., with her family when she was 3. The family moved to Loveland, where she grew up.
She married Henry Harrison Adler on Nov. 10, 1926, in Longmont. They lived and farmed in Longmont and Platteville before moving to Greeley in 1942.
Adler preceded her in death in 1957.
She was married a second time to Phillip Miller on Nov. 11, 1959, in Scottsbluff, Neb. He preceded her in death in 1971.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greeley since 1942.
She was a life member of the Ladies of the Moose at Greeley Evans Moose Lodge No. 909.
She was preceded in death by two husbands; two sons, Ray Allen Adler and infant Glenn Dean Adler; two stepdaughters, Ellen Hunt and Edna Erbes; two stepsons, Frank Adler and Roy Adler; two sisters; and four brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Francis Henry Adler of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gordon Joe Adler of Surprise, Ariz.; a stepson, Melvin Miller of Imperial, Neb.; three daughters, Marcia Mae Scheller of Greeley, Patricia Alice Saylor of Greeley and Esther Ann Epley of Greeley; a stepdaughter, Lila Brock of Greeley; a brother, Reuben Krenning of Loveland; a sister, Phyllis Siegman of Loveland; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today and Tuesday at Adamson Memorial West Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greeley. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
Alice V. 'Bunny' Roberts Pfile
May 1, 1920 - April 3, 2001
Alice V. "Bunny" Roberts Pfile of Life Care Center in Longmont died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital after a short illness. She was 80.
She was born May 1, 1920, to Carl John and Marie Karoline (Carlson) Aronson, southeast of Longmont.
On Oct. 10, 1943, she married Glenn A. Roberts. On April 6, 1965, she married Dr. Eugene F. Pfile.
Mrs. Pfile graduated from Erie High School and from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in 1942, with pediatric training at Children's Hospital. She worked at the Colorado University Hospital in Denver and entered the U.S. Air Force Nursing Corps during World War II.
She moved back to Longmont in 1951 with her two sons. She worked as nursing supervisor at the Longmont Hospital and Clinic for six years and then as medical and surgical day supervisor at Longmont Community Hospital. She was working toward a degree in nursing administration at the University of Colorado. She earned a certificate in advanced graphology and another in hypnosis.
Following her husband's retirement, she moved to Mountain Home, Ark., for seven years before returning to Longmont.
She was a lifetime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont and later attended the Messiah Lutheran Church in Mountain Home. She was active in Bible study and medical volunteer work, including a three-week medical mission in Liberia with her husband in 1978.
Mrs. Pfile enjoyed reading, traveling, stitchery, eggery, floral arranging and ceramics.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn; and her second husband, Eugene, on Jan. 25, 1991.
She is survived by two sons, Glenn Alan Roberts and his wife Sharon and Merlin L. Roberts and his wife Karen, all of Longmont; two stepdaughters, Julia Pfile Smith, M.D., and her husband Minor of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mary Jean Pfile Currier and her husband Gray of Fort Collins; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation will take place prior to a memorial service to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce Welander officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to either First Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501-5440.
SHEPARD, Neva (Sloan)
Nov. 7, 1913 - April 3, 2001
Neva (Sloan) Shepard, formerly of Niwot, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center in Boulder. She was 87.
She was born Nov. 7, 1913, to Arthur and Myrtle (Crabtree) Sloan in Maywood, Neb.
Mrs. Shepard and her husband, Richard, lived for many years in Gering, Neb., where she was active in community, church and school affairs. They moved to Denver in 1966.
She was a contracting agent for the U.S. government at Fitsimons Army Medical Center until she retired and moved to Niwot to be close to her granddaughter.
Mrs. Shepard loved singing with friends and the residents and staff at Good Samaritan. She also enjoyed poetry and often recited poems from memory.
She loved people and enjoyed Sunday dinners with her family and lunches at the Cream of the Crop Cafe' with the farmers and neighbors from around Niwot.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard.
Mrs. Shepard is survived by a son, Charles B. Shepard of Las Vegas; a daughter, Dickey Lee Shepard Hullinghorst and her husband Robert of Longmont; a granddaughter, Lara Lee Hullinghorst of Niwot; three nieces, Sharon Horton of Longmont, Jean Shirley and Sheryl Aupperle of Maywood, and their families; and two nephews, Orin Ryan of Longmont and Bradley Shepard of Elizabethtown, Ky., and their families.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at St. Mary Magdalene's Episcopal Church, 4775 Cambridge Drive, Boulder, followed by a reception at noon.
Interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec St., Denver.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Center, 2525 Taft Drive, Boulder, or to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1232 22nd St. NW, Washington, DC 20037.
Mabel A. Stamm
Nov. 16, 1913 - April 6, 2001
Mabel A. Stamm of Longmont died Friday, April 6, 2001, at the Life Care Center of Longmont. She was 87.
A mother, homemaker and farm wife, Mrs. Stamm was a Colorado native who owned and operated restaurants in Erie, Boulder and Sterling.
Mrs. Stamm also worked as a pastry chef for many years at both the Fox Hill Country Club in Longmont and Flatirons Country Club in Boulder.
She was born Nov. 16, 1913, to Jake and Sarah (Flowers) Coffman in La Salle.
She married Fred Brunz on Feb. 4, 1932, in La Salle. He preceded her in death in 1953.
She then moved to Erie, where she met her second husband, John Stamm. They were married on Jan. 16, 1955, in Longmont.
The couple moved to Longmont in 1968, where they lived until his death in 1979.
Mrs. Stamm was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Longmont.
In addition to being an excellent chef, she also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Coffman; two sisters, Helen Summers and Lucille Jacovetta; a son-in-law, Gordon Lee Teter; and a granddaughter, Tamera Cercone.
Survivors include a son, Donald Brunz and his wife Dona of Boulder; three daughters, Joyce Teter of Longmont, Pat Bakel and her husband Don of Phoenix, and Darlene Mari and her husband Larry of Longmont; a brother, Charles Coffman of Buena Vista; two sisters, Mildred Bohlander of Brighton and Doris Eversole of Denver; eight grandchildren, Douglas Brunz of Longmont, Denise Brunz Masel of Monument, Beverly Teter of Denver, Karen Teter of Longmont, Michelle Cercone Miller of Brighton, Barbara Cercone of Seattle, Michael Mari and his wife Tami of Longmont, and Christopher Mari and his wife Linda of Longmont; nine great-grandchildren, Brittney, Blair and Donald Austin Brunz, McKenzie Markey, Keigan Masel, Nathan Teter, Rachel Miller, and Naomi, Hayden and Corbin Mari; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce A. Welander officiating.
Cremation will be at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory, and a private inurnment will be held at Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley.
Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral chapel.
TARVIN, Georgiana B.
TARVIN, Georgiana B., 88, of Longmont, passed away Friday, April 6, 2001, at Life Care Center.
BAUER, Helen
May 29, 1916 - Oct. 18, 2001
Helen Bauer of Longmont died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 85.
She was born May 29, 1916, in Milner, Colo., to Herman Frederick and Mary Grace Bauer. She was the first baby born in Milner, a fact of which she was very proud.
She moved to Longmont with her family in 1920. She then relocated to Steamboat Springs in 1924, where she lived until 1928, before returning to Longmont.
She was employed doing general housework, cleaning and ironing for people in Longmont.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the VFW Post 2601 Auxiliary for many years.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ellen Bauer.
She is survived by four brothers, Robert W. Bauer of Longmont, Grant A. Bauer and his wife Alice of Loveland, Ronald F. Bauer and his wife Rosalie of Longmont, and Donald Bauer of Longmont; two sisters, Betty Jane Evig of Fort Collins and Marilyn O'Connel of Rising Sun, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Granville Smythe and Nikki Johnson of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Cremation will follow at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Visitation will be held 2 to 6 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 21, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Estella M. Drake
May 8, 1928 - Oct. 17, 2001
Estella M. Drake of Longmont died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Peaks Care Center of Longmont. She was 73.
She was born May 8, 1928, to William and Minnie Ann (White) Harvey in Pueblo.
On July 27, 1947, she married Thomas P. Drake Sr. in Hayward, Calif.
Following their marriage, the couple moved to Modesto, Calif., where they lived for eight years. They moved to Tellahoma, Tenn., and later to Alamogordo, N.M., where they lived from 1957 to 1966. From 1966 to 1977, Mrs. Drake lived in Sacramento, Calif. Following her husband's retirement, they lived in Eugene, Ore., then returned to California and moved to Longmont in 1990.
A professional musician, Mrs. Drake recorded and performed religious and secular music. She performed at churches and various organizations. She also worked as a secretary at Air Force bases in Alamogordo and Sacramento.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years.
Mrs. Drake loved her grandchildren and enjoyed sewing, especially "Moon" bears for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Drake is survived by her husband of Phoenix; three sons, Mark Drake of Longmont, Thomas Drake, DDS, of Longmont and Maj. James Drake of Fort Carson; a daughter, Trudy Pryor of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two brothers, Kenneth Harvey of Pueblo and Henry Harvey of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Irene Bateman of Walnut Creek, Calif., Luella Mau of California and Lois Anderson of Fountain Valley, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Seventh-day Adventist Church of Longmont, with the Rev. Gideon Haas officiating.
Interment will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 22.
