David I. Dahle
May 16, 1946 - April 5, 2001
David I. Dahle of Longmont died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at his home. He was 54.
He was born May 16, 1946, to Irving and Clara (Uzlik) Dahle in Austin, Minn.
On Oct. 3, 1970, he married Kristine Young in St. Paul, Minn.
Mr. Dahle moved to Longmont in 1974 from St. Paul.
He was a loving stay-at-home father. He loved soccer, playing chess and being a grandpa.
Mr. Dahle was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his mother of Austin; his wife of Longmont; two sons, David K. Dahle and John W. Dahle, both of Longmont; a daughter, Marianne E. Arleth and her husband Matt of Westminster; a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Arleth; and a great-aunt, Helen Schlenner of New Hope, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Interment will take place at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont.
Margaret B. Emery
May 10, 1907 - April 7, 2001
Margaret B. Emery of Longmont died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Applewood Living Center. She was 93.
She was born May 10, 1907, in Kenosha, Wis., to John Baptist and Anna (Vrankar) Backes.
She married William Emery on Aug. 23, 1932, in Wausau, Wis.
She began her career as a teacher in a country school in Wisconsin at age 19.
She also worked as a purchasing agent for the U.S. Navy for 28 years, retiring in 1969.
She returned to teaching at a Catholic school until moving to Longmont in 1976 from Charleston, S.C.
She was a 51-year member of the Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
She belonged to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Emery on July 16, 1985.
She is survived by a brother, Carl Backes Sr. and his wife Jacqueline of Loveland; a sister, Hortense Backes of Longmont; two nephews, Carl Backes Jr. and his wife Connie of Loveland and John Backes and his wife Patricia of Seattle; a niece, Mark Backes Kurtyka and her husband Frank of Fort Collins; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and vigil services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mr. William Lee officiating. Mass of the Resurrection will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Rev. Brian Morrow as celebrant. Interment at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
JoAnn J. Gittlein
Nov. 23, 1937 - April 8, 2001
JoAnn J. Gittlein of Platteville died Sunday, April 8, 2001, in Greeley. She was 63.
She was born Nov. 23, 1937, in Longmont to Carl and Elizabeth (Yakel) Strausheim.
She graduated from Mead High School.
She married Adolph Gittlein on June 9, 1958; he preceded her in death in 1984.
She liked to bowl and loved to play bingo. She was also a member of a pinochle club, Java Jets bowling club and Kill Kare Klub. She enjoyed gardening and had numerous other hobbies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Donna Roberts.
She is survived by a son, John Gittlein of Platteville; two daughters, Linda Smith of Longmont and Kathy Warner of Longmont; two brothers, Marvin "Bud" Strausheim of Oregon and Gerald "Jerry" Strausheim and his wife Mary of Mead; six grandchildren, Adolph Warner, Doug Keim II and Nicole Warner, all of Longmont, Jacquelynn Warner of Arvada, Sabrina Smith of Longmont and Dustin Smith of California.
There will be no funeral or memorial services. Mrs. Gittlein wished only to be remembered as she was in life by all of her friends and family in their own, private ways.

HARRINGTON, Donna Raye
April 6, 1944 - April 7, 2001
Donna Raye Harrington of Louisville died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in Louisville. She was 57.
She was born April 6, 1944, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Robert Lee and Hazel (Pitts) Pendergraft.
She graduated from Central High School in Phoenix, attended the University of San Jose in California, Phoenix College and New England College in Massachusetts.
She married David Michael Harrington on May 15, 1965, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She moved to Louisville in 1992, from Upton, Mass.
She was a Realtor and a land developer and the former President of D&D Construction Corporation in Upton.
Her first commitment was to her family, then to her Catholic Ministries. She had a great passion for the Respect for Life and Retrouvaille organizations. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Boulder and St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville.
She is survived by her husband; her parents, Robert Lee and Hazel Pendergraft of Sun City West, Ariz.; two sons, Michael David Harrington of Golden and Phillip David Harrington of Brighton; two daughters, Beverly Christine Harrington of Natick, Mass., and Peggy Colleen Harrington of Casper, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Nathaniel W. Compagnone of Natick, Mass., and Ryan Bertoni, Robyn Bertoni and Jesse Desourdy, all of Casper, Wyo.; and a brother, Gary Steven Pendergraft of Glendale, Ariz.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 S. Boulder Road. A rosary service will be held at the church at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the church with Father Dorino De Lazzer as celebrant. Services will conclude with the burial at the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery.

Hilda Catherine Hearn
Oct. 31, 1920 - April 5, 2001
Hilda Catherine Hearn of Longmont, formerly of Fort Myers, Fla., died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 80.
She was born Oct. 31, 1920, to William Clyde and Paulina Sophia (Palmquist) Guthrie in North Versailles, Allegheny County, Pa. She was a graduate of Turtle Creek High School in Pennsylvania.
On Dec. 15, 1939, she married Dennis Francis Hearn in Turtle Creek, Pa.
In August 2000, she moved to Longmont from Fort Myers, where she had lived since 1980. She enjoyed sewing doll clothes and liked to read, especially science fiction novels.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Mrs. Hearn is survived by two daughters, Mary Margaret "Peggy" Welch of Longmont and Hildegarde Guthrie Boynton and her husband William of Level Green, Pa.; three sons, William Joseph Hearn of Irvin, Pa., Paul Thomas Hearn and his wife Lynda of Carlisle, Pa., and Michael Dennis Hearn and his wife Linda of Canfield, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place at Howe Mortuary and Crematory in Longmont. No local services will be held.

HEEB, Anna Elizabeth
Sept. 21, 1913 - April 7, 2001
Anna Elizabeth Heeb of Boulder died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Manor Care Health Services in Boulder. She was 87.
She was born Sept. 21, 1913, in Louisville to William Thomas and Mamie (Abbott) Patterson.
She graduated first in her class from Louisville High School on May 20, 1932. She married Charles V. Heeb on Aug. 10, 1940, in Brighton.
She worked at Howard's Cafe in downtown Boulder before World War II, and met her husband there. She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed gardening, wildlife and her family life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Ann Miller of Boulder; a grandson, Christopher C. Pine of Denver; and three sisters, Eleanor King of Greeley, Wilmadean Ciocchetti and June Powell Miller, both of Longmont.
Memorial services will be held at the Valmont Community Presbyterian Church, 3262 61st St. in Boulder on Wednesday, April 11, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen Bird of the church officiating.

Mary Jean Howard
June 30, 1920 - April 3, 2001
Mary Jean Howard of Longmont died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Cinnamon Park Assisted Living Center. She was 80.
She was born June 30, 1920, to Gordon Campbell and Nelle Ruth (Abrams) Kerr in Longmont.
She was a graduate of the University of Colorado.
On Sept. 27, 1942, she married William Russell Howard in Kimball, Neb.
Mrs. Howard was a teacher at Front Range Community College in Westminster.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; and a brother, John Randall Kerr.
Mrs. Howard is survived by two sons, John D. Howard of Roswell, N.M., and William Russell Howard Jr. of Loveland; a daughter, Gretchen Henry of Billings, Mont.; seven grandchildren, Thomas B. Howard, Linda Donner, Michael Henry, Robert Henry, Peter Howard, Aaron Howard and David Howard; and eight great-grandchildren, Cher Fretz, Matthew Howard, Steven Henry, Kevin Henry, Lauren Henry, Jacob Henry, Samuel Henry and Marina Arden Howard.
Cremation has taken place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Kraft of the Longmont Police Chaplaincy officiating.
JONES, Lt. Col. John R. 'Bob'
May 27, 1923 - April 2, 2001
Lt. Col. John R. "Bob" Jones of Honolulu died Monday, April 2, 2001, in Honolulu. He was 77.
He was born May 27, 1923, to William W. and Minnie (Williams) Jones in Longmont. He lived in Longmont until 1942.
On Aug. 24, 1947, he married Dr. Jane Hardy, Ed.D., at the Boulder First Methodist Church.
He received his bachelor's degree and lettered in track at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Mr. Jones served with the U.S. Army Transportation Corps at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed reading and was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Charlie Jones; and a sister, Mae Jones.
He is survived by his wife of Honolulu; a daughter, Leslie Kathleen Jones of Honolulu; a son, Robert Jones and his wife Cheryl of Honolulu; two grandchildren, Rachel and Ralynn Jones of Honolulu; and a brother, Donald T. Jones of Washington, D.C.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel. Services will follow visitation at 5 p.m., with Lt. Col. Joseph Gibilisco of the U.S. Army Chaplaincy of Fort Schafter officiating.
Committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
Memorial contributions may be made to the World War II War Memorial Fund.
Arrangements are being handled by Ordenstein's Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary.

LEWIS, Ernest H., 86, of Longmont, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001, at the Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in Louisville.
MALAMA Sr., Leteonio Simi
March 5, 1933 - April 6, 2001
Leteonio Simi Malama Sr. of Longmont died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 68.
He was born March 5, 1933, in Western Samoa to Tito Simi Malama and Fale' Saiete-Malama.
He married Dorothy Palmer on Sept. 7, 1961, in Los Angeles.
He worked as a printer and retired in 1990, when he moved to Longmont.
He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1976.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church in Longmont.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, and bowling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Tito Simi Malama.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Leteonio Simi Malama Jr. and his wife Lisa of Corona, Calif.; two daughters, Pasami Malama-Rodela and her husband E. Joel Rodela of Longmont, Fale' Dorothy Porter and her husband Marc of Thornton; four sisters, Ruta Malama, Pasami Malama, Fa'asulu Malama and Tola Malama, all of Western Samoa; and four grandchildren, Rebecca Rodela, Armando Rodela, Tiffany Porter and Daniel Porter.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 350 11th Ave., with Gran Smythe officiating.
