BYERS, Roger Duane

Roger Duane Byers died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Estes Park Medical Center. He was 49.
He was born March 13, 1951, in West Point, Neb., to Raymond John and Darlene Bernice (Deep) Stigge.
In 1970, he graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder.
Self-employed in the construction of finish work, Mr. Byers was also a free-spirited artist who enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors and his dog, Tasha.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Survivors include his father, Ray Stigge and his wife Margaret of Loveland; a brother, Carl Byers and his wife Sylvia of Longmont; a sister, Rita Trumble and her husband Jack of Orinda, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Estes Park, with the Rev. Paul Garrett of St. Bartholomew's officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Society.

Joseph Billings Colton
Dec. 11, 1994 - Jan. 26, 2001
Joseph Billings Colton of Nederland died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Children's Hospital in Denver. He was 6.
He was born Dec. 11, 1994, in Boulder, the son of John Patterson and Nancy Jeannette (Billings) Colton.
Joe was a kindergarten student at Nederland Elementary School.
He loved skiing, river rafting, camping, rock climbing, dinosaurs and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his parents and a sister, Mariah Jeannette Colton of Nederland; his grandparents, Mary Alice Billings of Raymond and Norton A. "Cork" Billings of Longmont, and John O. Colton and his wife Polly Hoy of Midland, Mich.; two aunts, Mary Michael Billings and her husband John Ferry of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Carol Colton of Corvallis, Ore.; an uncle, Doug Billings of Erie; and four cousins, Taylor Ferry, Katie Billings, Ty Billings and Matt Billings.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Howe Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Kay Marsh of Rinn United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons.
There will also be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Nederland Elementary School.

EVANS, Dennis Wayne

Dennis Wayne Evans of Longmont died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 60.
He was born Dec. 8, 1940, in Denver to LeRoy and Maxine (Zeimer) Evans.
He married Donita Ridder on Dec. 29, 1967.
A resident of Boulder County since 1971, he attended two years of college.
Mr. Evans served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963 and retired as a manger from the Public Service Co.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Trudy Hoffman.
Survivors include a son, Shawn Evans and his wife Tressa of Estes Park; a daughter, Dawn Samber and her husband Jesson of Stoneham, Colo.; a sister, Gail Erker and her husband Marvin of Louisville; two grandchildren, Kaleb Samber and Aiden Evans; and his former wife, Donita Evans.
Private services and interment will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Alpha L. Head
Aug. 4, 1900 - Jan. 28, 2001
Alpha L. Head of Longmont died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Fort Collins Good Samaritan. She was 100.
Born Aug. 4, 1900, in Cleveland, Mo., she was the daughter of Joseph Henry and Julia Etta (Rice) Powell.
She married Ira Harold Head on Aug. 11, 1928, in Loveland.
Mrs. Head took a job working with a professor at Colorado State University while her husband finished his degree. During that time, she joined the professor and other students on a climb up Longs Peak.
She attended Colorado State University as well as Colorado Women's College in Denver.
After moving to Longmont from Guymon, Okla., in 1931, Mrs. Head worked as a secretary for Columbine Elementary School and Longmont High School for 18 years. In 1950 she became the secretary for the superintendent of schools, retiring in 1968.
Mrs. Head loved to play bridge and enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. She belonged to First United Methodist Church of Longmont.
She was preceded in death by her husband in January 1950, as well as nine siblings.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at First United Methodist Church, 350 11th Ave., with the Rev. Granville Smythe Jr. officiating.
Inurnment will be held later at Fort Morgan Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
Cremation will be at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Samuel Valentine Higgins
Feb. 14, 1905 - Jan. 27, 2001
Samuel Valentine Higgins of Longmont died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his home.
He was born Feb. 14, 1905, in Philadelphia to Matthew and Hettie J. (Smyth) Higgins.
He married Marjorie Kathleen Field on Sept. 12, 1934.
Mr. Higgins and his wife lived with their daughter's family in Longmont since 1998. Mrs. Higgins died in April 2000. The couple had also lived at Village Place in Longmont for three years, Taft Towers in Boulder for six years, Fruitland, Fla., for 12 years, Dallas, Pa., for 22 years and Philadelphia before that.
Mr. Higgins was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 43 years, retiring in 1970. He worked one year in Panama for the U.S. government during World War II. After his retirement, Westinghouse employed him again as a consultant for 18 months in Brazil and for six months in Saudi Arabia.
Mr. Higgins taught numerous Bible classes and also preached in prisons and rescue missions. He was well-known for his ability to solve challenging problems with automotive and electrical motors. He had a lifelong interest in languages, learning Spanish in Panama and Portuguese in Brazil. Mr. Higgins often supplemented his Bible lessons with references to Greek and Hebrew.
A graduate of Philadelphia College of Bible, he also attended Spring Garden Technical Institute for two years. He was a member of First Bible Baptist Church of Boulder and recently attended Calvary Church in Longmont.
Survivors include a son, S. Kenneth Higgins and his wife Jan of Maumee, Ohio; a daughter, Ruth H. Dameron and her husband Kirk of Longmont; a brother, George Higgins and his wife Claudia of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren, Bryan Higgins, James Higgins, Cheri Higgins-Kortryk, Amy Higgins, Joy Higgins Ravenel, Diana Dameron, Kirsten Dameron, Nathan Dameron and Micah Dameron; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sallye; and two brothers, Jack and Harold.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay St., with Pastor Tom Hovestol officiating. A private interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

HOLLAND, Debbie
Nov. 30, 1953 - Jan. 30, 2001
Debbie Holland of Longmont died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at her home after battling ovarian cancer for nearly a year. She was 47.
She was born Nov. 30, 1953, in Liberty, N.Y., to Charles and Barbara Whitmore, who now live in Lompoc, Calif.
Mrs. Holland had worked at IBM in Boulder since 1993.
She loved her family and many friends as well as the mountains, where she enjoyed skiing, mountain biking and summers on the river at a family vacation spot in the Sequoia National Forest.
She is survived by her husband, David, whom she married on April 23, 1983, in Annandale, Va. Also surviving are a sister, Margaret Chapman; a brother, Charlie Whitmore; and several nieces and nephews, Becka, Nathan and Rachael Chapman of LaPlata, Md., and Kristina and Chas Whitmore of Lompoc.
No memorial services are planned, but a celebration of Mrs. Holland's life will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, at 4133 Greens Place, Lake Valley Estates, from 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Holland's name to Hospice of Boulder County, 1510 Ninth Ave., Longmont 80501.

Harold Edward Leinweber
Dec. 15, 1921 - Jan. 26, 2001
Harold Edward Leinweber of Longmont died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at his home. He was 79.
He was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Oshkosh, Wis., the son of Gustov and Mary (Poffonroth) Leinweber. In 1937 he moved from Oshkosh to Longmont and worked for the Kuner Empson Canning Co.
He never married.
He is survived by two sisters, Joyce Nuss of Arvada and Clara Rorrer of Oshkosh; four nephews, James Nuss of Broomfield, Thomas Nuss of Arvada, Darreyl Wayne Rigot of California and Ronald Paul Rigot of Oregon.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Howe Mortuary Chapel, with Chaplain Allen Elder officiating.
Burial will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
Charlotte E. Lundquist
Jan. 18, 1915 - Feb. 1, 2001
Charlotte E. Lundquist of Longmont died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at her home in Longmont. She was 86.
She was born Jan. 18, 1915, in Lincoln, Neb., to Donald Warren and Ogda (Lundberg) Warren.
A graduate of Stapleton High School in Stapleton, Neb., she attended Kansas State University in Manhattan.
She married Tannis H. Lundquist on May 23, 1937, in Kearney, Neb.
In 1954, Mrs. Lundquist moved from Kearney to Longmont, where she was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
A homemaker, she enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, sewing and cooking.
Mrs. Lundquist worked for 10 years for Bernice Hover, a member of the historic local family. She also was a cook for many years for the St. Vrain Valley School District before retiring in 1975.
She was a loving and giving mother to her children.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 9, 1972.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Lundquist and his wife Ruth and Warren Lundquist, all of Longmont; a daughter, Sandy Farrell of Edmonds, Wash.; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Lundquist, Kirk Lundquist, Kelli Lundquist and Michelle Lundquist, all of Longmont, Kathi Ruckmick of Los Angeles, Michael Anderson of Illinois, Debbie Ziolowski and her husband Dave of Nevada and Nicole and Kristin Farrell, both of Seattle; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Harold Schaeffers of Beaver City, Neb.
Private services will be held.
Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be held at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

MINICK, Gordon C.
March 12, 1910 - Jan. 26, 2001
Gordon C. Minick died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Grass Valley, Calif. He was 90.
He was born March 12, 1910, in Berryville, Ark., to Thomas D. and Martha Ann (Pinkley) Minick.
The family moved to Longmont in 1920. Mr. Minick graduated from Longmont High School in 1930.
He married Naomi Dameron on Jan. 21, 1933, in Brighton. The couple had recently observed their 68th anniversary.
Mr. Minick drove trucks for Homer Wright, hauling gold from the mines in Jamestown to Boulder. In the late 1930s, he went to work for the city of Longmont Parks Department at Roosevelt Park.
In January 1943, he moved with his family to Monterey, Calif., where he went to work for three years at the Army Post Exchange at Fort Ord, Calif. He was then transferred to the bakery at the Army Quartermaster Corp., where bread was baked for the troops. When the bakery closed, he was transferred to the Commissary Meat Department and then later to an office supply warehouse, all at Fort Ord.
Mr. Minick retired on Dec. 31, 1976, after 31 years of service. For several years during this time, he was a weekend manager for the Old Monterey Bowl. In 1977, he moved to Lafayette, returning to California in 1988 and settling in Grass Valley.
He enjoyed bowling, especially with the seniors of Lafayette. He also enjoyed fishing with his friend Herman Crites and playing cribbage.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Naomi; two brothers, Lorran and his wife Dee of Pacheco, Calif., and Gene and his wife Isabell of San Diego; his sons- and daughters-in-law, Gordon L. and Maureen of Lodi, Calif., Donald and Sue of Grass Valley, Calif., Kenneth and Phyllis of Belpre, Ohio, and son Larry of Grass Valley; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul L. Minick of Lander, Wyo.; and two grandsons, Geno Smith of Belpre and Michael Minick of Grass Valley.
In accordance with Mr. Minick's wishes, no formal services will be held.
