CANNON, Minnie A.
July 23, 1916 - April 1, 2000
Minnie A. Cannon of Longmont died on Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 83.
She was born on July 23, 1916, in Egan, La., to Henry and Mathilda (Vautrah) Semar.
She had been a Longmont resident for the past 10 years. She SHE was divorced, so we have a lot of SHEs!!!had worked as a seamstress for an upholstery company.
She was an avid bowler and was a member of the Centennial League in Longmont.
Preceded in death by two brothers, she is survived by two sons, Sid Cannon and his wife Maryann of Longmont and Henry Cannon and his wife Karen of New Caney, Texas; four grandsons, Clint Cannon of Wheat Ridge, Danny Cannon of Houston, Aaron Bauldree of Boca Raton, Fla., and John Bauldree of Longmont; three granddaughters, Angie Van Tassel of Houston, Brandy Harlan of Tucson and Courtney Cannon of New Caney; and two great-grandsons, Zackery and Justin Van Tassel of Houston.
There will be an open house at the home of Sid and Maryann Cannon, 806 Independence Drive in Longmont, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, following a private ceremony in the mountains, where the family will scatter her cremains.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Minnie A. Cannon, in the form of donations to the city of Longmont, for a tree to be planted in her name. Please contact Donna Angstead at 303-776-7033.

Milton Taylor Haynes
March 12, 1925 - March 31, 2000
Milton Taylor Haynes of Longmont died Friday, March 31, 2000, at home. He was 75.
He was born March 12, 1925, in Ripley, Tenn., to Clyde Madison and Littie O. Delancy Haynes.
On Oct. 28, 1943, he married Ethel Mae Karr in Blytheville, Ark. They moved to Longmont in 1944, where he fed cattle for nine years before going into construction and heavy-equipment operating.
When his health required a job change, he worked for Mr. Steak for 17 years as warehouse manager until his retirement in 1998.
He was the custodian at Church of Christ, where he was also a member, until his death.
He loved to fish and work on cars and in the yard. He would help anyone who asked. His grandchildren and great-grandchild were his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by one brother; two sisters; three grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Fred Parker.
Survivors include his wife of Longmont; three daughters, Shirley Parker of Longmont, Janette Marshall of Longmont and Glenda Haynes and her fiance' Rick Sauer of Telluride; four brothers, James Haynes and his wife Idell of Blytheville, Floyd Haynes of Cedar Lake, Ind., Lloyd Haynes and his wife Martha of Longmont and Tommy Haynes and his wife Mabel of Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters, Margaret Harrell and her husband Chapman of Halls, Tenn., and Ruby McWilliams of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Kyle Parker and his wife Gretchen of St. Louis, Lawny Anderson and his wife Holly of Kobe, Japan, Jeremy Marshall and his wife Gabie of Westminster and Amanda Marshall of Castle Rock; one great-grandchild, Brock Marshall of Westminster; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation is from 1 to 6 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 3, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Lewis of Church of Christ of Longmont officiating.
Interment will take place in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
HIGGINS, Marjorie
Jan 31, 1908 - April 2, 2000
Marjorie F. Higgins, of Longmont, died on Sunday, April 2, 2000, after a brief illness at Longmont United Hospital. She was 92.
She was born on Jan. 31, 1908, in Philadelphia, to Frederick Henry and Mabel D. (Gallup) Field.
She married Samuel V. Higgins on Sept. 12, 1934, in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Higgins and her husband, lived with their daughter's family in Longmont since 1998. Previously they lived for three years at Village Place in Longmont; Taft Towers in Boulder for six years; Fruitland, Fla., for 12 years; Dallas, Pa. for 22 years; and Philadelphia for 47 years.
Mrs. Higgins was employed as an executive secretary for many years, retiring in 1970.
She worked with youth for Christ and for Child Evangelism Fellowship, including serving as acting director in Luzerne County, Pa., for two years. She also taught many Bible clubs for children and women's Bible classes.
She knitted and crocheted avidly, and lent a hand to her husband's many home remodeling endeavors. She remained as active as possible, still doing yard work at 88 years of age.
While living at Village Place, she organized a group of women with a desire to do handwork into a club called the "The Knit Wits."
She was a graduate of Philadelphia College of the Bible. She was a member of the First Bible Baptist Church of Boulder, and more recently attended Calvary Church in Longmont.
Mrs. Higgins was preceded in death by her sister, Winifred Frank of Wawa, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Higgins of Longmont; a daughter, Ruth H. Dameron and her husband Kirk of Longmont; a son, S. Kenneth Higgins and his wife Jan of Maumee, Ohio; a sister, Lillian Faison of Ridley Park, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Bryan Higgins, James Higgins, Cheri Higgins-Kortrvk, Amy Higgins, Joy Higgins Ravenel, Diana Dameron, Kirsten Dameron, Nathan Dameron and Micah Dameron; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay St., Longmont, with Pastor Tom Hovestol officiating. A private interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Church, Acts 1:8 Fund, or the Walter Hoving Home, in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont 80501.
JOHNSON, Judith M.
JOHNSON, Judith M., 57, of Longmont, passed away April 1, 2000, at Longmont United Hospital. No local service will be held.
Thresa T. Jones
July 19, 1920 - April 1, 2000
Thresa T. Jones of Frederick died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Applewood Living Center. She was 79.
She was born July 19, 1920, in Pueblo to Clyde Thomas and Anna (Guthrie) Thomas.
In July of 1938, she married Arthur Jones in Beulah. They lived several places, including Illinois and Santa Fe, N.M. She returned to Colorado and lived in Denver until returning to Pueblo following her husband's death in 1978. She moved to Frederick in 1998.
She was a homemaker, and was a buyer for the Denver Dry Goods Co. while she lived in Denver.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Jack Jones.
Survivors include a son, Nick Jones and his wife Nancy of Frederick and a sister, Lucy Timme, and her husband Walt, of Pueblo. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
No local services are planned. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
PATTERSON, Grace E.
April 18, 1911 - March 31, 2000
Grace E. Patterson of Boulder died Friday, March 31, 2000, in Louisville. She was 88.
She was born April 18, 1911, in Longmont to George E. and Clara Specht Coffin.
A Boulder County native, she attended Boulder High School and married Sumpter A. Patterson in 1933 in Parker.
She co-owned Boulder Plumbing and Heating Co., participated in the Birthday Club and played piano.
She loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977 and two sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Ann Ray of Louisville, Sheri Swerdfeger of Phoenix and Sharlotte Simkins of Montrose; two sons, Dean Patterson of Colorado Springs and George Patterson of Montana; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place in Boulder. Cremation and private interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County or the charity of the donor's choice.
Marsha Louise Nixon Soukup
April 28, 1959 - March 31, 2000
Marsha Louise Nixon Soukup of Highlands Ranch died Friday, March 31, 2000. She was 40.
She was born April 28, 1959, in Mobile, Ala., to Lonnie and Nancy Nixon of Longmont.
A 1977 graduate of Longmont High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Trojan band and orchestra and the all-state honor orchestra.
After high school, she graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1981 with a business degree in accounting.
She earned her certified public accountants license in 1982 while employed as a staff accountant with the public accounting firm Hines, Condon and Zarlingo of Denver.
She became accounting manager of the Denver Post in 1984 and was promoted to corporate controller.
She married Dennis P. Soukup, also a 1977 Longmont High graduate, on June 18, 1988, at the United States Naval Academy.
They relocated to New London, Conn., and Charleston, S.C., where he was on active duty with the U.S. Navy as a submarine officer.
She became controller of the NBC television station in Charleston, where she also earned her master's degree in business administration from The Citadel.
In 1991, the couple moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as association controller for the National Newspaper Association based in Reston, Va., until 1996.
Following the birth of their son in 1998, she moved with her husband to Highlands Ranch.
Survivors include her husband of Highlands Ranch; her 22-month-old son, Matthew Patrick Soukup; her parents of Longmont; three sisters, Marilyn Maples of Littleton, Margaret Reiswig of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Melinda Lacy of Fort Collins; several nieces and nephews, including Amanda Newton, Christopher Maples, Jennifer Maples, Jonathan Rogers and Stephanie Lacy; and her in-laws, Joe and Pat Soukup of Longmont.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with services conducted by Hospice of Boulder County Chaplain Carol Swartzendruber.
Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Contributions can be mailed in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
TSOU, Jaw Long "Joe"
April 1, 1947 - March 29, 2000
Jaw Long "Joe" Tsou, of Berthoud, formerly of Longmont, died on Wednesday, March 29, 2000, in Breckenridge. He was 53.
He was born in China on April 1, 1947, to Yuan Huel and Moon Lang (Chu) Tsou.
On June 8, 1975, he married Margaret Ma in Golden.
Mr. Tsou had been a resident of Longmont from 1982 to 1994.
He was a restaurateur and owned and operated family restaurants: China Garden in Boulder, Longmont and Lakewood. He also had been a real estate broker.
He enjoyed the outdoors and nature, as well as skiing and music.
Mr. Tsou was preceded in death by his father, Yuan Huel Tsou.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Tsou of Berthoud; one son, James Tsou of Longmont; two daughters, Marian Tsou and Grace Tsou, both of Longmont; his mother, Moon Lang Tsou, one brother, Chow-Hu Tsou, and one sister, Olivia Ni, all of Los Angeles.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m., service time, at Crist Mortuary Chapel in Boulder.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, 80301.
Howard P. Allen
Aug. 9, 1908 - Aug. 12, 2000
Howard P. Allen of Longmont died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Life Care Center of Longmont. He was 92.
Mr. Allen was born Aug. 9, 1908, in Fort Morgan, the son of John J. Allen and Minnie Castner Allen.
He married Mary L. Decenick on Jan. 4, 1942, in Longmont. He made Longmont his home ever since.
As a young child, Mr. Allen moved with his family to a farm east of Boulder on Valmont Road. He worked on the family farm and for other farmers in Boulder County until leaving home at age 17 in 1925 to work on the Moffat Tunnel.
In a 1978 article in the Daily Times-Call, Mr. Allen stated that he walked up the canyon to Nederland, across to Rollinsville, then to Toland to ask for a job to help build the Moffat Tunnel.
Following the completion of the tunnel, he worked on numerous construction projects in Colorado, building roads in Rocky Mountain National Park, Boulder County roads above Nederland, a water-diversion project in Aspen and the federal building in Denver. For 16 years, he helped build homes for Orr Construction Co. in Longmont.
He loved fly fishing, skiing, photography and bowling. He liked to go to farm sales, fix bicycles and other things, and just putter in his back yard.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 18, 1998; three brothers, Marion, Robert and Harry; and a sister, Lucille Weber.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Martha Bloom and Lillian Decenick, both of Longmont; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Brian Morrow celebrant.
Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Building Fund in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St. in Longmont.
