Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 790 Greydene Ave., Cañon City. Interment will follow in Mountain Vale Memorial Gardens, Cañon City.
Caroline M. Flynn
Caroline M. Flynn, 60, of Cañon City, died Oct. 10, 2004, in Cañon City.
Mrs. Flynn was born in Cañon City on May 25, 1944, to Andrew and Caroline (Shaffer) Kuretich. She worked at Parkview Hospital in the Histology Department until she moved back to Cañon City in 1976 and provided daycare until 1997.
Wilson S. Archer
Wilson S. Archer, 75, of Cañon City, died Oct. 12, 2004, in Cañon City.
He was born on June 2, 1929, in Albany, N.Y. to Wilson P. and Viola (Stalford) Archer. He grew up in Vestil, N.Y.
Berniece Spreier
Berniece Spreier, 85, died Oct. 9, 2004, in Cañon City,
She was born in Joes, Oct. 21, 1918. She graduated from Yuma High School in 1937, and married Edward D. Spreier in 1941. They made their home in Wheatridge, where she assisted her husband in their auto body shop as a bookkeeper/ secretary for many years.
Paul Dean 'John' Boyd
Paul Dean "John" Boyd, 68, of Penrose died Oct. 12, 2004.
He was born Dec. 26, 1935, in Burlington to Ora Pete Boyd and Ida Mae Farmer Boyd. He was married to Rosa May Crites on Aug. 16 1957, in Penrose.
James "Jim" Blain
James "Jim" Blain, 55, of Cañon City, died Oct. 8, 2004, in Cañon City. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Cañon City High School Auditorium. Seating will begin at 3:30 p.m. Pastor Chuck Kinyon will officiate and a reception will follow the service.
Charles 'Charlie' Baptista
Charles "Charlie" Baptista Guerri Sr., 69, Ontario, Canada, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in Ontario.
He was born April 30, 1935, in the mining town of, Rockvale, to Joseph and Virginia (Chiesi) Guerri. The family later moved to Florence, where he lived until graduation in 1953. Mr. Guerri moved to Denver where he married Myrna "Joy" Taylor, Feb. 2, 1959.
(Violas) Adrian Danley
(Violas) Adrian Danley, 92, a longtime Florence resident, died Nov. 21, 2004, at home.
He was born April 19, 1912, in South Bend, Texas. He was a World War II Veteran decorated with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star along with numerous other commendations. He was an avid Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets fan and a genuine old-time cowboy.
Mary A. Murphy
Mary A. Murphy, 88, died Nov. 20, 2004, in Cañon City.
She was born March 15, 1916, in Cañon City, to Tom and Matilda (Tecanchich) Pokas. She married Sherman P. Murphy, Nov. 3, 1945, in Cañon City.
Frederick Joseph Smith III
Frederick Joseph Smith III, 86, died Dec. 1, 2004, in Florence.
He was born July 28, 1918, in Yates Center, Kan., to Frederick Joseph and May Belle (Cheesum) Smith Jr. Mr. Smith was a plumber by trade, and had also worked for the Colorado State Hospital, Cañon City School District, Department of Corrections and Custer County Road and Bridge. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945, then reenlisted 1948-1952 as a Shipfitter 1st Class.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at the Wetmore Community Church, 699 County Road 395, Wetmore, with Pastor Loel Gray officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sangre de Cristo Hospice West, P.O. Box 1796, Cañon City, CO 81215 in Mr. Smith’s name. Arrangements through Florence Mortuary.

Ronald Joseph Devaney, 84, North Fork, died Feb. 2, 2005, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta.
He was born Feb. 11, 1920, to William and Mary (Hennaberry) Devaney in East Newark, N.J. He spent his childhood in East Newark and attended school there.
James L. Burford Sr.
James L. Burford Sr., 76, Independence, Mo., formerly of Cañon City, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at the Rosewood Health Center at the Groves in Independence, Mo..
Mr. Burford was born April 14, 1928, to Alfred and Velma (Atkinson) Burford in Colorado Springs. He retired from the Centel (formerly Southern Colorado) Power Company in 1991 after 31 years of service in Cañon City.

She was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Henry and Edith (Callow) Ruskin. She was married to Elmer Parsons.

Wilbur “Bill” W. Soden, died Feb. 1, 2005.
Mr. Soden was born Dec. 8, 1942, in Cañon City, to Francis and Wilma (Ireland) Soden. He graduated from Cotopaxi High School in 1961. He lived most of his life in Fremont County, at his home in Howard for 39 years, and recently in Cañon City.

He was born July 20, 1929, in Colorado Springs, to Everett and Dora (Butler) Wilson.
Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Florence Mortuary. A Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Florence Chapel. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Arrangements through Florence Mortuary.

John H. Adams, 61, died Feb. 3, 2005, in Cañon City.
He was born April 27, 1943, in Cañon City, to John I. and Florence (Miller) Adams. He was married to Lavone Genck.

Mayor Jackson’s mother dies at 97
Helping people was one of Lillie E. Jackson’s greatest joys.
The 97-year-old mother of Cañon City Mayor William Jackson, died Feb. 7, 2005, in Cañon City.
“She was always willing to help whenever she was needed,” Jackson said. “She helped all the family and helped her sisters when they were ailing. She helped me with my younger children after my first wife died.”
Donald Eugene Kimbler
Donald Eugene Kimbler, 57, died Feb. 1, 2005.
Mr. Kimbler was born March 15, 1947, in Madison, W.Va., to Brady and Beulah (Christian) Kimbler. He graduated from high school in Madison and then joined the Army.
Henry ‘Hank’ J. Kubik
Henry “Hank” J. Kubik, 54, of Coaldale, died Feb. 7, 2005, in Cañon City.
Mr. Kubik was born June 10, 1950, in Detroit, Mich., to Henry and Helen (Traylor) Kubik. He moved to Cañon City in 1988 and was a member of the Colorado Elk Foundation.
A Memorial Service will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Holt Chapel of the Garden with the Rev. Bill Kros officiating. Holt Family Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Larry Matkovich
Larry Matkovich, 68, of Cañon City, died Feb. 5, 2005, in Pueblo.
Mr. Matkovich was born Aug. 8, 1936, in Crested Butte to Tony and Helen (Ponchur) Matkovich. He owned and operated Larry’s Custom Cycles in Cañon City for 20 years and was a member of Pipefitters and Steamfitters Local 20 in Pueblo.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Holt Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gunnison with the Rev. Steve Murray officiating. Interment will follow in Gunnison Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross. Arrangements were handled by Holt Family Funeral Home.

She was born Dec. 21, 1936, in Denver to the Rev. Charles V. and Elizabeth (Morris) Young. She married Paul R. Hildebrand on Aug. 5, 1956, in Greeley.

Dorothy Irene Dahl, 84, died April 20, 2005, in Visalia, Calif.
She was born near Williston, N.D., to Robert and Sadie Hunter on July 17, 1920. During her childhood, she lived in North Dakota and Minnesota.
Wanda Lee (Parks) McBride
Wanda Lee (Parks) McBride, 76, formerly of Coaldale, died March 15, 2005, in Sultan, Wash.
She was the daughter of Finis and Pauline Parks of Coaldale.
Henry A. Quintana Sr.
Henry A. Quintana Sr., 71, of Florence, died May 3, 2005, in Florence.
He was born May 30, 1933, in Redwing to Joe and Jennie (Valdez) Quintana. He lived in Florence since 1947 and was a member of the Elks Club. He married Mary “Maggie” Maestas on July 2, 1955, in Cañon City.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Florence Mortuary. A Scripture service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church with the Rev. James King officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain Vale Memorial Park.
Edward Kozacek
Edward Kozacek, 81, Cañon City, died May 3, 2005.
He was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., to Louis and Francis (Siek) Kozacek. He married Audrey Logan on May 17, 1947.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Kippley officiating. Cremation will follow with Inurnment at a later date at Lakeside Cemetery.
