Joice Bernice Tucker
Joice Bernice Tucker died on Monday, June 13, 2005, at her Bayfield home surrounded by family.
Mrs. Tucker was born on Oct. 21, 1928, in Checotah, Okla.
Family members remember her as religious with a great sense of humor.
Survivors include her children: William Harrington of Wickinburg, Ariz.; Deborah Harrington of Bayfield; Janet Creighton of Junction City, Ore.; Susan Harrington of Salem, Ore.; Frank Harrington of Three Forks, Mont.; Coleen Phillips of White Salmon, Wash.; Timothy Harrington of Salem, Ore.; and Angela Smith of Bayfield; sister Margaret Stone of Harrah Newalla, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Cyril Foster Tucker, and two sons, Roger Allen Tucker and Stephen Cory Harrington, preceded her in death.
She will be buried in Norman, Okla., next to her husband.
Charles 'Chuck' L. Schoser
A Colorado native fond of the outdoors, Charles "Chuck" L. Schoser, 64, of Golden, died Monday, June 13, 2005.
Mr. Schoser was born Nov. 9, 1940, in Durango.
Survivors include his wife, Billie of Golden, and her children: Melinda Allen of Indiana, Lorelei Hale of Farmington, Aaron McBride of Tennessee, Adam McBride of Arizona, Natalie Decker of Denver, and Joel McBride of Colorado Springs as well as children from Mr. Schoser's previous marriage to Rosalie A. Schoser: Gretchen Schoser of Florida, John Schoser of Chicago, Steve Schoser of Denver and Heidi Gorrill of Chicago. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. today at the Foothills Chapel Cremation and Funeral Service in Golden.

Holly Gale 'Shooter' Barnes
Holly Gale "Shooter" Barnes, 83, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango.
Mr. Barnes was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Hereford, Texas, the son of Perry and Pearl (Burroughs) Barnes.
He graduated from Sudan High School in Sudan, Texas, in 1939 and moved to Falfa that same year with his family.
On July 3, 1946, he married Gladys Boyd in Tierra Amarilla, N.M., and they had two children.
After 26 years of service, Mr. Barnes retired from driving a school bus for the Ignacio School District. A lifetime rancher, he was involved in ranching until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Barnes of Ignacio; son, Perry Barnes of Ignacio; daughter, Darlene Chandler of Ignacio; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters Modine Mayfield of Playas, N.M., Clara Carter of Midland, Texas, and Opal Lechner of Ignacio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Florida Cemetery on County Road 225. Chaplain JoAnn Armstrong from Mercy Medical Center will officiate. Burial will occur at Florida Cemetery in Durango. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hood Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Florida Mesa Cemetery.
Gayle Maloy
Gayle Maloy died from cancer-related problems Saturday, June 11, 2005, in Durango. He was 76.
Mr. Maloy was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Monroeville, Ind.
During the Korean conflict, he served in the Air Force for four years. Afterwards, he worked as a television news anchorman for NBC affiliate in Ft. Wayne, Ind., for 10 years.
In 1965, Mr. Maloy adopted Durango as his new home. He spent 10 years as assistant manager of the Strater Hotel, then 10 more years at KDGO radio as an on-air personality and in sales. Before retiring in 1990, he worked for six years at Directory Plus.
Mr. Maloy served two terms on the Durango Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He was the chamber president in 1978 and 1979. The following year, he emceed both the opening and closing ceremony of the Durango Centennial celebration.
He was also a longtime member of the Durango Elks Lodge No. 507.
Survivors include a sister, Colleen Doerflein, and three nieces, all of Ft. Wayne, Ind.
No services are planned.
LB Easter
LB Easter died from pneumonia Friday, June 3, 2005, in Arizona. He was 93.
Mr. Easter was born July 22, 1911, in Oklahoma.
A World War II veteran, he worked as a cook in the service. While living in Durango, he owned Easter Cafe (now Oscar's), where he cooked and baked pies. Mr. Easter loved hunting and being surrounded by his bird dogs.
He was preceded in death by an infant son.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Cornelius of Arizona, and Gaylynn Easter from Arkansas, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three great-nieces.
Dolphus Ernest Blodgett
Dolphus Ernest Blodgett, 82, of Lubbock, Texas, died Saturday, June 11, 2005, after a battle with cancer.
Mr. Blodgett was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Quanah, Texas, to Ruth and Andrew Jackson Blodgett. He was one of 11 children.
He married Lou Kathlyn Nelson of Floydada, Texas, on April 18, 1943, in Carlsbad, N.M.
For 29 years, he served in the United States Air Force as a pilot, navigator and bombardier. He fought in the European theatre during World War II, as well as in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was awarded the Silver Star.
Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Blodgett owned and operated Silver Streams Lodge in Bayfield for 11 years.
He was a member of the Commemorative Air Force, Order of Daedalians, and the National Rifle Association. He also volunteered at the Retiree Activities Office.
He will be remembered for his passionate enjoyment of flying, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lou; five daughters, Sue O'Connor, Teresa Blodgett, Lori Parham, and Lynn Owens, all of Lubbock, and Jan Blodgett of Davidson, N.C.; six grandchildren, all of Lubbock; and two sisters, Floree Hammons and Wanda Peters, both of Colorado.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Forrest Heights United Methodist Church with Clarence Fox officiating. Interment of remains will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Jo Nell Cundiff
Jo Nell Cundiff died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at her son's home in Aztec at the age of 57.
Mrs. Cundiff was born in Farmington on Nov. 23, 1947, to R.C. and Mildred Montgomery.
An only child, she broke horses for her father with Wayne Cundiff. She married Johnny C. Cundiff on Nov. 25, 1964.
Together, they lived in Aztec. Later the Cundiffs moved to Durango, then Mt. Claire, Neb., and eventually returned to Durango. At one point, they lived in Silverton, where Mr. Cundiff worked for Colorado Department of Transportation. They also lived in Bayfield.
When Mrs. Cundiff's father became ill in 1995, she decided to take over his ranch in Lindrith, N.M. In 1998 they moved to Lindrith full time to raise Santa Gertrudis cows, one of Mrs. Cundiff's dreams.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny C. Cundiff of Lindrith, N.M.; three children Johnny C. Cundiff, Jr., of Lindrith; Juanell R. Meador of Aztec; and Jeffery D. Cundiff of Aztec; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cope Memorial Chapel in Aztec. She will be buried at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield.

Bryan Wilson Simmons
Bryan Wilson Simmons died at his Fruitland, N.M. home of natural causes on Thursday, June 9, 2005.
Mr. Simmons was born on Dec. 9, 1917, in Winneywood, Okla.
At 3-months, Mr. Simmons traveled via wagon train from Oklahoma to Dolores with his family. He was 6-months old when he and his family settled and established their homestead on the Dolores River, near Lewis.
He graduated high school in 1933 from Cortez, and started a logging company shortly after with his brother J.D.
In 1940, he married Fern J. Magarrell, and they had four children.
He owned and operated a bean and wheat farm in Areola; built, owned and operated a trailer park and a laundromat in Cortez; worked for the post office in Farmington; and for a helium plant in Shiprock, N.M., from which he retired at the age of 50, in 1968.
He remarried in 1967 to Alberta Alston.
For the past 35 years, he enjoyed his winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., and his summers in Fruitland, N.M., where he tended to his grape vineyard, fruit orchard and flower garden with diligence.
Mr. Simmons was active with his music and he played three instruments. He also enjoyed playing board games, silvertooling jewelry, camping with his family and traveling.
He was proceeded in death by his wife Alberta Simmons; his infant twin sons, Jackie Bo Simmons and Tommy Joe Simmons.
Survivors include his brothers J.D. Simmons of Prescott, Ariz., and Charles Simmons of Buena Park, Calif.; sister Mary Hames of Camarillo, Calif.; son Kay B. Simmons of Albuquerque and daughter Judy F. Simmons of Durango; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
A private family memorial celebration will be held on Father's Day weekend.
Tina Blanche Murray
Tina Blanche Murray died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at her home in Bayfield. She was 96.
Mrs. Murray was born on Sept. 18, 1908, in Pagosa Springs to Harry and Alice Putnam.
She grew up in Pagosa Springs on the family ranch owned by her father. In 1925, she married Raymond R. Murray in New Mexico.
For many years, Mrs. Murray worked at the Pagosa Social Services office.
She was an active member of the Bayfield Church of Christ and loved writing poems for any occasion.
Among her favorite hobbies were fly fishing, hunting and arts and crafts. Friends, neighbors and family fondly remember receiving Mrs. Murray's crafts as gifts.
Survivors include daughter Madelyn Daly of Grand Junction; sister Myrtle Crowley of Leoti, Kan.; four grandsons: Larry Leighton, Gregg Leighton and Glenn Leighton, all of Cortez, and Murray Ludwig of Bayfield; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and four step-grandchildren.
Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her daughter Opal Ludwig, and her grandson Preston Ludwig.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Hood Mortuary. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Bayfield. Gene Chapin will officiate.
Burial will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Pagosa Springs.
