Paul Leo Gervais Sr.
Paul Leo Gervais Sr., an outdoor enthusiast and beloved husband of 45 years to Lorraine Gervais, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, in East Longmeadow, Mass. He was 68.
Mr. Gervais was born in Springfield, Mass., on Oct. 3, 1936, to Leo and Hazel Gervais. After spending some time in East Springfield, Mass., Mr. Gervais moved to East Longmeadow, where he lived for 23 years until his death.
After graduating in 1954 from Springfield Trade High School, Mr. Gervais enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during peacetime. He spent 18 years of his professional career employed with Ebasco Services, from where he retired in 1994.
After retirement, Mr. Gervais kept himself busy working as a part-time greenskeeper at the Elmcrest Country Club in East Longmeadow.
Mr. Gervais was a devoted husband and family man with a gentle spirit. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, travel, hiking, scuba diving, nature and racket sports.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Gervais; his children, Paul Gervais Jr. of Durango, Lynn Gervais-Jones of Longmeadow, Mass., and Donna Goulet of Springfield, Mass.; and grandchildren, Leah, Abigail and Elizabeth Gervais of Durango, Meghan Jones of Longmeadow, Mass., and Juliette Goulet of Springfield, Mass. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley Gelinas of Chicopee, Mass., and a brother, Richard Gervais of San Francisco.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, Mass., followed by a burial at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 110 Maple St., in East Longmeadow. Calling hours will take place today at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Lucian F. Squires
A resident of La Plata County, Lucian F. Squires died Tuesday, March 29, 2005.
Mr. Squires was born August 9, 1911, in Ekron, Ky., the eldest son of Bertha Powell Squires and Ben Squires.
His father died at an early age and his mother moved the family to Colorado in 1916.
Before settling in La Plata County, Mr. Squires resided in Paonia and Aspen.
He married Mary Louise Schaaf in Durango on March 9, 1933. They were married for 71 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Squires moved to the Redmesa/Marvel area and later to Breen. He was involved in farming and ranching and in 1943, he moved to Bayfield. They resided in Bayfield until 1998 when he moved to Durango.
Mr. Squires was involved in Bayfield community activities. He was a charter member and past president of the Bayfield Lion's Club and served as director and president of the Basin Co-op. He attended the Bayfield Calvary Presbyterian Church.
He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fly fishing, boating, hunting, picnics and get-togethers with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Schaaf Squires.
Survivors include children, Jim Squires of Houston, Texas; Nina Davis of Carson City, Nevada; and Bill Squires of Desert Springs, Arizona; brothers, Jack Squires and Oran Mullenix, both of Ignacio; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hood Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Earl Caudill of the Hospice of Mercy will officiate. Those making memorial contributions are encouraged to support the Hospice of Mercy, 3801 Main Ave., Durango, CO 81301.
Edith M. Fitts
Edith M. Fitts, 87, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango.
Mrs. Fitts was born March 10, 1918, in Marion, Ill., the daughter of George and Ella Gresham.
In 1991, she moved to Durango, where she was active in the Florida Mesa Presbyterian Church. She was also an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary.
Mrs. Fitts was fond of animals, nature and her church. Her love of animals inspired the nickname her great-grandson gave her: "Grandma Kitty."
Survivors include her son Charles "Bud" Fitts of Durango; two granddaughters and two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; brother George Gresham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Fitts, and her son Joseph Fitts.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Florida Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dan Straw with Florida Presbyterian Church will officiate. Cremation has occurred.

Ethie Earl Hull Jr.
Ethie Earl Hull, Jr. "Red" died on Thursday, May 19, 2005. He was 76.
Mr. Hull was born in Montrose County on Sept. 12, 1928, to Ethie Earl "Brownie" and Cecil Hull.
He grew up on a sheep ranch outside Eckert, and spent his youth there. During summers, he attended sheep camp in the Grand Mesa area. He rode broncos in local rodeos, and then served in the Army.
In 1954, Mr. Hull married Shirley Farnham, and they had five children together.
Mr. Hull ranched, farmed, worked in the uranium mines, ran heavy equipment, and worked road construction.
However, he found his expertise in the water-well business in 1964.
He owned and operated Hull Water Well Drilling in Rifle, Dubois, Wyo., and Bayfield.
In 1980, he semi-retired but kept active in the well business for many years while pursuing a passion he had for wood in a hobby business, Red's Clock Shop.
He enjoyed this business until 2000 when he retired and moved to Delta.
Mr. Hull's family says he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, irrigating pastures, raising livestock, and watching children at play. People admired his quick wit and sense of humor.
Ethie was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Marlene.
Survivors include his daughter Janet Rule of Steamboat Springs, his daughter Sheryl Chimenti of Dubois, Wyo., his son Ethie "Earl" Hull III of Montana, his son Quinn Hull of Grand Junction; 16 grand- children; eight great-grandchildren; a brother Loriee Hull of Delta; four sisters, Ethel Faye Stoneman of North Pole, Alaska, Geraldine Dech of Grand Junction, Leila Dade of Delta, Garry Beth Alsdorf of Elko, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Gunnison Valley Church of the Nazarene in Delta.
The Pastor Terry Hedrick and Scott Morris will officiate, and fellowship will follow.
Internment will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Valley Lawns Cemetery in Montrose with Military honors by the Montrose combined Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 784 and American Legion posts 24 and 73. The Disabled Veterans of America Chapter 17 will officiate.

Teresa Candelaria
Teresa Candelaria, 69, died Monday, February 7, 2005, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington.
Mrs. Candelaria was born Jan. 6, 1936, in Durango, the daughter of Dave and Isabel Quintana.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenmount Cemetery and a reception will follow the services.
Suzanne Lee Forsythe
Suzanne Lee Forsythe, 58, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, in Payson, Ariz.
She was born on June 4, 1946, to Wayne and Lois Allen in Georgetown.
Mrs. Forsythe attended school there and in 1968 graduated from the University of Colorado with honors.
On Oct. 10, 1970, she married Bayfield resident Larry Forsythe in Georgetown.
They moved to Lakewood where they lived and worked until retiring to Payson. She loved the town of Payson and the people there. The family said she was known for her quick smile and delightful personality.
Survivors include her husband, Larry; mother, Lois Allen; brother, Chris Allen, all of Payson; her sister, Barabra Allen, of Georgetown; and several aunts, nieces and nephews.
Joan C. Basye
Joan C. Basye, 69, died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at her home in Durango.
Mrs. Basye was born Jan. 27, 1936, in Raleigh, N.C., the daughter of Paul and Emily Courtney.
In 2002, she moved to Durango from Naples, Fla.
Her passion was serving as a Bible teacher for 35 years.
Survivors include her husband, Doyne, of Durango; her two daughters, Karen Rossi of Durango and Renee McAliney of Bayfield; her brother, Robert Courtney, of Columbus, Ohio; five granddaughters, and two grandsons.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenmount Cemetery. Burial will follow.
Michael DiOrio
A former resident of Durango, Michael Jordan DiOrio, 53, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, in Greeley with his wife at his side.
He was born Oct. 16, 1951, in Caņon City to Anthony Michael and Joyce (Staggs) DiOrio.
Mr. DiOrio graduated from Caņon City High School in 1969.
He owned the Caņon Texaco for nine years, and then worked for the Greeley Gas Co. in Caņon City. In 1971, he transferred to Durango as a supervisor. While there, he met and married Linda Justice Boucher.
When Mr. DiOrio was promoted as the northern Colorado operations manager in 1997, he and his wife moved to Greeley. He retired from the Greeley Gas Co. in 2003 after working there 25 years, because he was sick with amyloid disease.
A baseball fanatic, Mr. DiOrio enjoyed playing softball in the city leagues. He loved to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was also involved with Habitat for Humanity, and he was a Leadership Weld County graduate.
Survivors include his wife, Linda DiOrio, of Greeley; two daughters, Stacy Andrews of Caņon City and Danielle Boucher of Portland, Ore.; a son, Michael DiOrio, of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Michelle Knight, of Boulder City, Nev.; a brother, Stephen DiOrio, of Caņon City; two grandchildren; former wife, Kay Dwight DiOrio; and many nephews and friends.
Services were held in Greeley and in Caņon City with burial at Lakeside Cemetery in Caņon City. Memorial gifts may be made to Weld County Habitat for Humanity.
Selena Anderson Hamblin
Selena Anderson Hamblin died Monday, May 23, 2005, in La Plata, N.M. She was 97.
Mrs. Hamblin was born on April 3, 1908, in Rexburg, Idaho to Caleb and Barbara Anderson, the second of five children.
In 1931, she married Glen Obid Hamblin in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived in Alpine, Ariz., and La Plata, N.M.
An accomplished seamstress and quilter, Mrs. Hamblin made quilts for many of her children and grandchildren. She also crocheted rag rugs. Any scrap of cloth good enough for a quilt became one. The lesser quality rags became rugs.
Both a cook and homemaker, she fed her family from her garden, much of which was canned or frozen for the off-season.
Mrs. Hamblin served in many church callings and was an outstanding teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Ball, Obid Hamblin, Elbert Hamblin, Ellis Hamblin, Peggy Jack and Darlene Palmer; 37 grandchildren; 115 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Apache Street in Farmington. The Bishop David Harris will preside.
