Eugene Bowen
Eugene Bowen, 91, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at his home in Ignacio.
Mr. Bowen was born April 5, 1914, in Peoria, Ill., the son of Eugene Rider and Katherine Francis Witzigman Bowen.
In 1975, he married Carolyn Elaine Both in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Mr. Bowen graduated from Western State College in Gunnison. For 40 years, he worked as a teacher. The importance of youth in his life was demonstrated by his work as a coach, owner/director of a children's summer camp in Michigan, and as a recreation director in various locations throughout the West.
After retiring from teaching, Mr. Bowen became a successful rancher.
Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sister, Ellen Bowen of Glenview, Ill.; son, Eugene Bowen of Las Vegas; daughter, Jill Bowen of Las Vegas; two grandsons and two granddaughters.
A graveside service was held Wednesday at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango. The Rev. Myron Darmour with Mercy Medical Center and St. Mark's Episcopal Church officiated.
Glenroy Wesley 'Glen' Barnett
Glenroy Wesley "Glen" Barnett, 80, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

George Moskios
A World War II veteran, George Moskios died on Sunday, April 17, 2005 after suffering numerous health problems. He was 81.
Mr. Moskios was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Akron, Ohio, to Lana Steed and Christopher Moskios.
He married his wife, Phyllis, in 1944 and they had four children.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Durango; son George "Geo" Moskios of California; son Jerry Moskios of Nevada; son Phillip Moskios of Oregon; and daughter Donna Moskios of Durango; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Hood Mortuary. A gathering will be held afterwards from 1 to 4 p.m. at 933 County Road 300, just south of Durango.
Pamellia Lee Yaw
Pamellia Lee Yaw died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center. She was 53.
Ms. Yaw was born Dec. 14, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Virginia Yaw.
Before moving to Bayfield, she lived in New Mexico for 25 years.
Ms. Yaw was a kind and devout Christian. Her recreational time was spent gardening.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Peter Lynn Knight, and her son Matthew Lynn Knight.
Survivors include her father, Harry and her mother, Virginia Yaw of Mercer, Mo.; three sisters, Victoria Kurykendall, Virginia Yaw and Margaret Yaw, all of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandsons and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held on April 21, at Rosa Cemetery in Arboles. The Rev. Myron Darmour, Mercy Medical Center chaplain, officiated.
Vera Inez 'Joye' Taylor
Vera Inez "Joye" Taylor, 71, died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango.
Mrs. Taylor was born July 17, 1933, in Jackson, Miss., the daughter of Archie and Hazel Bailey. She attended school in Barnes, Miss., and later moved to Texas.
She married T.J. Taylor on Sept. 14, 1949, in Trenton, Texas. They lived in Wilmer, Texas, and they raised five children.
Mrs. Taylor worked for Texas Instruments for 17 years. And when the family relocated to Mabank, Texas, she began a successful real-estate business.
In 1983, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor retired to Bayfield.
Mrs. Taylor enjoyed fishing, solving puzzles, reading her Louis L'Amour collection, traveling with her family and collecting frog memorabilia. She enjoyed attending her church and her daughter's volleyball games.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. Taylor.
Survivors include her brother Don Bailey of Houston, Texas; sons Jimmie Taylor of Bayfield, Colo., Troy Lee Taylor of Godley, Texas, Roy Lynn Taylor of Quitman, Texas; daughters Sarah Taylor of Bayfield; Colo., and Melanie Taylor of Bayfield, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous family members.
Visitation will be held at Hood Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. today and a funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Vallecito Church. Pastor David Guy will officiate. Burial will occur later at Payne Springs Cemetery in Mabank, Texas.
David Robertson MacCallum
David Robertson MacCallum, mentor, veteran and proud caretaker of mountain homes, died Friday, April 15, 2005, in Fort Collins after a fight with multiple myleoma. The former resident of the Aspen Trails subdivision near Durango was 80.
Mr. MacCallum was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Kansas City, Kan., to Ruth Eleta and David Irwin MacCallum. A 1943 graduate of Bent County High School in Las Animas, he played linebacker for the school's football team and met classmates who would become his lifelong friends.
World War II drew Mr. MacCallum into action with the Navy in the Pacific.
Mr. MacCallum worked as an insurance and annuity underwriter until his retirement. Mr. MacCallum and his wife, Lorene, were married for 52 years. They moved to Farmington in 1959 and lived there until 2002.
His sense of service and camaraderie became a theme in his life as he served as executive officer in DeMolay, worthy patron in Eastern Star and master of the Masonic Lodge.
He loved mentoring teenagers, family gatherings, friends who came to the coffee klatch each morning, cards, barbecues, traveling, reading, sunrises and sunsets. He worked with great pride on his mountain homes in Durango.
Mr. MacCallum is survived by his wife, Lorene, and five children: Suzanne Barslund of Albuquerque; Roxanne Batezel of Fort Collins; Tracy MacCallum of Riverside, Calif.; Tamara Powers of Los Alamos, N.M.; and Shauna Bost of Everson, Wash. He is also survived by his sister, Myrl Perdue of Fowler, 14 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service was held Friday, April 15, in Fort Collins.

Lori 'Star' Sutherland
A devoted mother who loved to work with beads, Lori "Star" Sutherland, 41, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, in Durango.
Mrs. Sutherland was born March 31, 1964, to Bill and Karen Donagan in Minneapolis. While she was growing up, her family lived in many different places. They moved to Durango in 1979, while Mrs. Sutherland was in junior high school. She graduated from Durango High School in 1982.
"I remember Lori (Donagan) very well," said Kipp Schreiner, who was the adviser forEl Diablo, the high school newspaper. "She was a shy young girl who really blossomed during her senior year through her work on the paper. She gained a lot of self-confidence when she saw what she could do."
After working at several places in and around Durango, she had worked for the past three years at Beads & Beyond, where she also taught beading classes.
"She loved her job. She always said it was such a joy to get paid to do what you love," said her mother, Karen Donagan. "Lori (Star) was a wonderful mom and loved her son dearly."
Mrs. Sutherland enjoyed skiing, camping and riding her Harley-Davidson.
Mrs. Sutherland is survived by her son, Keegan Sutherland; her parents, Bill and Karen Donagan; her brother, Sheldon Donagan; and her nephew, Landon Donagan, all of Durango; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Sutherland.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hood Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Myron Darmour will officiate.
Durango Harley-Davidson has established a fund for Mrs. Sutherland's son, Keegan. Contributions may be made to Keegan's Fund, c/o the Bank of Durango, 125 Sawyer Drive, Durango, CO 81303.
The cause of death was gunshot wounds.
Anna Antenucci
Anna Antenucci died on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at the home of her daughter Karin A. Lovett in Durango, where she has lived for the past several years. She was 94.
Anna Viola Christina Ahlin, better known to her friends as "Lila", was born May 15, 1910, in New York City. She married Dr. Arthur J. Antenucci, also of New York, on June 26, 1933.
Aside from her love of gardening, she was a photographer and spent many hours in the darkroom. Her photographs grace the homes of friends and family.
Mrs. Antenucci's summer home on Shelter Island became her full-time residence upon the death of her husband in 1987. She lived there until declining health led her to move to her daughter's home in Durango, where she enjoyed her family and made many new friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Karin A. Lovett of Durango, Nina A. Schoeller of Dallas and Frances Johnston of Chatham, Mass., and Dallas; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Arthur Jr., and a grandson, William Lovett.
Her interment will be at Our Lady of the Isle Cemetery on Shelter Island.

Claude Owens
Claude Owens died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. He was 93.
Mr. Owens was born May 22, 1911, in Springfield, Mo., to Walter and Edith Owens. He served in the Army in World War II and married Aurora Perez on May 31, 1962, in Durango.
A mason for Burnett Construction for years, Mr. Owens enjoyed spending time with his family in retirement.
He is survived by son Gilbert Maestas, daughters Gabriela Maestas and Bernie Smith, 30 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his wife, brother Stanley, sisters Golden and Ursel, sons Fidel Maestas and Tony Maestas, and daughters Janey Wong, Delia Casias, Bessie Ocana and Leslie Miera.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hood Mortuary. A funeral is scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the mortuary, with the Rev. Aaron Hatfield with the Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Irene F. Muller
Irene F. Muller died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango. She was 82.
Mrs. Muller was born June 22, 1922, in Peoria, Ariz., the daughter of Henry and Lee Wacker. Mrs. Muller grew up in Peoria and graduated from Peoria High School. She attended college in the East and studied accounting. She moved to Durango in 1990.
Mrs. Muller enjoyed many different crafts but especially painting, and she left behind many paintings.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Olson of Durango, and three nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, Ariz.
